About Vercel:
Vercel is the agentic infrastructure company, freeing people and agents to ship what's next. For more than a decade we've helped builders move from idea to production with speed, security, and exceptional developer experience.
Now we're scaling our products for both agents and people to ship and run software, built in the open and trusted by OpenAI, PayPal, Ramp, Supreme, and millions of developers worldwide.
About the Role
You’ll lead the engineering team responsible for Vercel for Platforms. This product enables companies to build their own platforms on Vercel, from AI app builders and coding agents to SaaS products serving thousands of customers. We provide the infrastructure to programmatically deploy and run their customers’ applications, with custom domains, tenant isolation, and a seamless developer experience. This team is strategic to Vercel’s growth. Winning a platform means powering the applications and businesses built on top of it.
We’re looking for an engineering leader to own this horizontal team. While the team is intentionally small, the scope spans deployment infrastructure, domains, identity, billing, observability, and developer tooling. It’s a deep systems and scale challenge: evolving Vercel to support platforms managing millions of tenants and applications while making that complexity feel simple. This role combines cross-team coordination, technical direction, product judgment, and broad organizational influence to shape a strategic growth engine for Vercel
This position is hybrid based in SF
What You Will Do:
Build and grow a high-performing team of engineers through hiring, coaching, mentorship, and thoughtful career development.
Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, and high engineering standards while creating an environment where engineers can do their best work.
Partner closely with Product, Design, and other engineering teams to define roadmap priorities and execute against ambitious product goals.
Occasionally review and contribute code to stay close to the technology and unblock the team when needed.
Drive operational excellence through strong engineering processes, incident management, and continuous improvement.
Balance short-term product delivery with long-term investments in technical quality and platform scalability.
About you:
8+ years building and operating large-scale platforms or multi-tenant systems
5+ years managing engineers
Strong technical foundation. You can review system designs, understand data model challenges, and evaluate infrastructure tradeoffs
Proven ability to translate business goals into technical strategy and drive cross-org alignment
Track record establishing trust, psychological safety, and clear expectations; skilled at timely, candid feedback
Strong facilitator in technical conflict. You listen, synthesize, decide, and bring the team with you
Clear communicator who sets expectations, gives direct feedback, and builds trust across teams
Benefits & Compensation:
Competitive compensation package and stock options.
Comprehensive, inclusive healthcare package.
Opportunities for mentorship and professional growth, including attendance at industry events.
Flexible Time Off with a recommended minimum of four weeks per year, plus paid holidays.
Remote-friendly culture with teammates across multiple time zones.
Dedicated equipment and work-from-home budget to help you create an effective workspace.
The San Francisco, CA base pay range for this role is 262,000-348,000. Actual salary will be based on job-related skills, experience, and location. Compensation outside of San Francisco may be adjusted based on employee location. The total compensation package may include benefits, equity-based compensation, and eligibility for a company bonus or variable pay program depending on the role. Your recruiter can share more details during the hiring process.

We’re scaling fast and staying true to what makes us different: an open-source legacy, a global collaborative culture, and a passion for meaningful work. Our team thrives in an innovation-driven environment where transparency, autonomy, and trust fuel everything we do.
You may not meet every requirement, and that’s okay. If this role excites you, we’d love you to raise your hand for what could be a truly career-defining opportunity.
This is a remote opportunity for candidates located in Canada and US.
The Opportunity:
The Grafana Search & Storage squad is developing Grafana’s next-generation storage layer. As a key component of our App Platform, Unified Storage enables developers to build innovative applications using a Kubernetes-inspired Operator pattern to interact with data directly.
In addition to operating Unified Storage at scale within Grafana Cloud, our team manages two essential features for discovery and organization: Search, the unified engine for finding and querying all Grafana data, and Folders, for hierarchical content management.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Take an active role in influencing our roadmap and your own career objectives
Work with your team to deliver new features, then use the results to iterate and improve.
Drive projects from initial ideation all the way to operations once it is in the hands of customers
Embrace our open-source culture and contribute to other projects that may not directly fall within your team’s scope
Design, build, operate, and maintain critical systems, owning the reliability, performance, and
availability
Be a part of your team’s on-call rotations and take ownership of the services you’re running
Mentor and support other team members, participate in design discussions and collaborate with the team
Learn new skills by gaining a deeper understanding of our cloud product and our customers and getting to know the codebase of a large distributed system
As we are remote-first and our engineering organization is largely remote, we provide guidance and meet regularly using video calls, so an independent attitude and good communication skills are a must.
What Makes You a Great Fit:
You are a motivated self starter with a bias towards action
You are customer focused
We build everything with our users in mind.
You have a passion for creating intuitive products that fit customers’ needs
Pragmatism: You are able to take on complex challenges and break them down to achieve short feedback loops: to analyze, design, and build modular solutions, deliver MVPs, gather data and feedback and then progress iteratively
Collaboration and communication: The smallest unit we have is a team. You’ll be working with your teammates in a fully remote setup. Good communication skills are a must
Solid experience with Go, Rust, Python, or other similar programming languages
Demonstrated knowledge of and experience working with large distributed systems
Experience with delivering projects from gathering requirements, brainstorming ideas all the way to shipping a product to the customer’s hands in a self-driven way
Experience with developing software that runs in the Cloud o r experience with systems engineering
Experience writing clean, robust, and performant software that is easily maintained by others
We invest heavily in developer productivity. You can use modern AI coding assistants as part of your daily workflow (your choice of tools, within security guidelines), backed by a company-funded usage budget so you can iterate quickly without unnecessary friction. We encourage pragmatic AI-assisted development: faster prototyping, test generation, refactors, documentation, and incident follow-ups—always with strong code review and quality standards. You'll also have access to the latest frontier models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google.
Bonus Points For:
Have been a user of Grafana and Prometheus in operational roles (including on-call for your team at a previous employer or just using these tools on hobby/homelab projects)
Familiarity with being on-call and performing operations/SRE tasks or with the concept of infrastructure as code
In Canada, the OTE (On-Target Earnings)/Base compensation range for this role is CAD $164,490 - $197,389. Actual compensation may vary based on level, experience, and skillset as assessed throughout the interview process. ABOUT SUPABASE
Supabase is the Postgres development platform, built by developers for developers. We provide a complete backend solution including Database, Auth, Storage, Edge Functions, Realtime, and Vector Search. All services are deeply integrated and designed for growth.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We're looking for Engineering Managers to lead engineering effort on Supabase Spark. Supabase Spark is an initiative to build the next frontier of agentic databases, supporting billions of databases, with millions of databases created every day.
Although we don’t require managers to contribute to code directly, we do expect you to participate in design discussions and to be involved in setting the bar for engineering quality and best practices.
WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
Team & People
- Build a healthy, high-trust team culture in a remote-first, globally distributed environment.
- Run 1:1s, performance management, career development, and onboarding for your direct reports.
- Handle people admin (leave, time off, etc.) for your team.
Hiring
- Own the hiring plan for your team and act as Hiring Manager. First round of interviewer for all roles on the team.
- Partner with Talent Acquisition to source, interview, and close strong candidates.
- Contribute to headcount planning, org design, and the evolution of engineering leadership at Supabase.
Delivery & Roadmap
- Own the team's roadmap and project management (Linear), driving accountability and clear milestones.
- Manage workflow intake and Slack triage. These are the team’s primary inboxes for cross-team requests. You decide what gets routed where, prioritized, or pushed back on.
- Own the team's weekly updates and keep stakeholders aligned without creating overhead.
- Organize effort against support tickets and maintain the team's SLO.
- Surface risks, dependencies, and tradeoffs early and clearly to leadership.
Incident Commander
- Train as an Incident Commander. Drive coordination, resolution, and post-incident follow-up.
- Lead blameless post-incident reviews
YOU MIGHT BE A GOOD FIT IF YOU
- Have 5+ years of engineering background, with enough depth to be credible with engineers building complex systems.
- Have 3+ years managing remote engineering teams.
- Have managed engineering teams at a cloud, SaaS, or developer tools company.
- Experience with developer tools or databases, plus if that includes both SQLite and Postgres ecosystems.
- Strong technical credibility in backend and database systems: APIs, auth, and Postgres access control (roles, grants, RLS) etc.
- Has led a team shipping a developer facing API or platform product from early stage to production.
- Have managed remote, globally distributed teams that work asynchronously across disparate time zones.
- Are technical enough to be credible with strong engineers, but genuinely passionate about people management. This is the work you want to do, not a track you're settling for.
- Build psychological safety and a feedback culture: you give feedback often and in the moment, ask for it back, and create space for the team to do the same.
- Operate as a multiplier. Focused on helping individuals achieve more than they could alone, not on being the best technical voice in the room.
- Coach rather than direct. Remove blockers, connect people to context and resources, and trust your engineers to own how the work gets done.
- Have a real track record of performance management and can speak to specific examples of difficult conversations and how you navigated them.
- Are comfortable with ambiguity and capable of building structure where there isn't much.
- Communicate clearly and write well. You're default async, default written, set context proactively, and surface risks early.
- Are collaborative, low-ego, and adaptable. You thrive working with high-autonomy, senior ICs who have strong technical opinions and don't need to be the smartest person in the room.
- Are comfortable with aggressive scoping and eval driven development.
WHAT WE OFFER
- Fully Remote
We hire globally. We believe you can do your best work from anywhere. There are no Supabase offices, but we provide a WeWork membership or co-working allowance you can use anywhere in the world.
- ESOP
Every team member receives ESOP (equity ownership) in the company. We want everyone to share in the upside of what we’re building together.
- Tech Allowance
Use this budget to set up your ideal work environment—laptop, monitor, headphones, or whatever helps you do your best work.
- Health Benefits
Supabase covers 100% of health insurance for employees and 80% for dependents, wherever you are. Your wellbeing and your family’s health are important to us.
- Annual Off-Sites
Once a year, the entire company gathers in a new city for a week of connection, collaboration, and fun. It’s a highlight of our year.
- Flexible Work
We operate asynchronously and trust you to manage your own time. You know what needs to be done and when.
- Professional Development
Every team member receives an annual education allowance to spend on learning—courses, books, conferences, or anything that supports your growth.
ABOUT THE TEAM
Supabase was born-remote and open-source-first. We believe our globally distributed team is our secret weapon in building tools developers love.
- ~400 team members
- 60+ countries
- 20+ languages spoken
- Over $1B raised (including our $500M Series F)
- 540,000+ community members
We move fast, build in public, and use what we ship. If it’s in your project, we probably use it in ours too. We believe deeply in the open-source ecosystem and strive to support—not replace—existing tools and communities.
