By making small business more efficient every day, connecting them with big business technology and empowering a community behind them, their potential is limitless. THE ROLE & TEAM
Product Data Science & Engineering is a portfolio team within Product & Technology. Partnering across Product, Engineering, Design, Marketing, and Commercial leadership, we set Xero’s data science strategy across broad product areas and operate in an AI-native way—using AI to transform how we work, not just what we ship.
The team co-own Xero's metrics stack, experimentation strategy, and enterprise data architecture and builds AI-powered customer experiences including the Jax chatbot and agentic workflows—in partnership with Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google. They also lead AI measurement and productionisation. We work in an AI-native way. That means AI changes how data science itself gets done here, not just what we ship.
This is a new strategic leadership role created to scale Xero's data science and AI capabilities. You will take full ownership of the data science, analytics, ML, and AI strategy and execution across Accounting & Bookkeeping, Small Business, and AI products.
This role combines strategic product vision (including Jax, agentic workflows, and AI-powered features) with platform thinking across the metrics stack, experimentation, data quality, and governance, driving enterprise-level impact across every product team.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- You will translate company-level objectives into strategic sub-objectives across analytics, ML, AI products, and experimentation, elevating both the quality of decisions and the leverage Xero gains from its data and AI investments.
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of data scientists, analytics engineers, ML engineers, and managers, scaling the function from ~12 to ~30.
- Design team structures and operating models that preserve high throughput across multiple locations and time zones.
- Operate as an AI-native leader, driving how AI changes how data science operates and ships value across Xero.
- Act as the primary data partner to Product & Technology, advising C-suite and SLT on data utilization, retention strategy, new data domains, and AI investment decisions.
- Represent data science in executive forums and partner with Product, Engineering, Design, Marketing, Commercial, Legal, Privacy and Risk on strategy, prioritisation and governance.
- Own AI governance, model risk, data quality, privacy posture, and experimentation integrity across the portfolio, ensuring company-wide compliance and integrity.
- Drive behavioral, technical, and cultural standards across the vertical. Own and improve global hiring practices, build talent maps, and coach senior leaders and individual contributors to raise the bar across Xero.
- Proactively identify delivery and strategic risks, designing robust organizational processes that yield consistent, high-quality outcomes for Xero.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING WITH YOU
We welcome candidates from analyst, scientist, engineer, or AI/ML-focused backgrounds—a linear data science career is not required. What matters most is that you have operated, shipped, and led at scale within a fast-paced technology environment. As a self-starter and executive partner, you will shape and lead strategic agendas alongside C-suite and senior leadership, driving throughput across multi-location, global teams. You excel at bringing structure to complex cross-functional challenges, managing ambiguity, and maintaining a strong "Xero-first" mindset focused on delivering strategic value and accountable execution.
- Ability to act as a proactive self-starter and executive partner, shaping strategic agendas with C-suite and SLT, presenting to board-level leadership, and influencing key investment decisions.
- Proven ability to manage ambiguity, bring structure to complex cross-functional challenges, sustain throughput across multi-timezone teams, and hold stakeholders accountable to a "Xero-first" standard.
- Skilled in leading managers, coaching leaders into senior roles, developing high-performing teams, and constructively escalating strategic risks when necessary.
- Experienced in navigating teams through significant scale-ups, operating model transformations, and continuous evolution in fast-paced environments.
- Practical experience leveraging frontier-model platforms (e.g., Anthropic, OpenAI, Google) to build agentic workflows, chatbots, and AI-powered products, as well as transforming team operating models using AI workflows.
- Substantial experience leading data science, ML, or analytics functions, with a proven track record of managing other people leaders across multi-team structures.
- Extensive experience building and running enterprise-scale data science functions, AI/ML productionisation, AI governance, model risk frameworks, and experimentation integrity.
- Deep technical fluency across applied ML, analytics engineering, instrumentation, eventing, and schema governance, with a strong engineering mindset focused on building scalable platforms and reusable architectures.
- Prior exposure to SaaS or small business segments, with a track record of driving scale, data quality, and privacy compliance.
- Technical bachelor's or master's degree (PhDs welcome for applied, high-impact organizational challenges), supported by public thought leadership or open-source contributions in data or AI.
WHERE AND HOW YOU CAN WORK
This role is based in Sydney or Melbourne with a flexible hybrid working setup, spending 1 to 2 days per week in the local office to connect and collaborate.

What We Do:
Cybercrime is growing, and more businesses are getting hit by threats that used to target only the biggest organizations. That pushes defenders like us to operate at the highest level, and it deepens our need for good people who want to make a meaningful impact.
Founded in 2015 by former NSA cyber operators, Huntress is a remote-first team working to make enterprise-grade cybersecurity accessible to businesses of all sizes. We work closely with security teams and service providers protecting complex environments, often without the time or headcount to handle it all. That’s why we build our technology in-house and back it with a 24/7 human-led Security Operations Center (SOC). As a result, our platform is never disconnected from the experts who manage it, ensuring our customers' protection.
Huntress now secures more than 6M endpoints and 16M identities worldwide. Those numbers keep growing because more businesses rely on us to help carry the load and operate with more confidence. Every day, you can see that commitment in how we stand with our customers and how we show up for each other.
Reports to: Senior Manager, Detection Engineering & Threat Hunting
Location: Remote Australia
Compensation Range: $150,000 to $170,000 AUD base plus bonus and equity
What You’ll Do:
Members of the Huntress DE&TH team wake up every morning with the honor of impeding threat actors through a combination of detection engineering and threat hunting. This team sits alongside our 24x7 Security Operations Center, and our Adversary Tactics & Tactical Response function, and plays a pivotal role in detecting threats actors before they get a chance to impact our partner environments.
As a Senior Detection Engineering and Threat Hunting (DE&TH) Analyst you should be drawn to the hard problems: detecting stealthy intrusions, managing false positives and false negatives at scale, and uncovering clues that may expose an evolving campaign across Huntress partners. In this role you will turn threat intelligence, or a hypothesis, into detections that help the SOC find real intrusions faster. While the SOC is responding to alerts within minutes, this team is developing detections and reviewing more ambiguous signs of attacker activity on a daily & weekly basis.
On the Detection Engineering side of the role, you will play a part in designing, building, and maintaining a resilient, scalable, and high-fidelity detection portfolio that enables the SOC to rapidly identify and respond to adversary activity. This will involve working with engineering and other adjacent teams to achieve a shared goal across multiple domains which includes identities and endpoints.
On the Threat Hunting side of the role, you will get to research new attacker tradecraft, test new theories, and review hunting data at scale for millions of endpoints to proactively hunt for, and disrupt, stealthy threat actor techniques that evade initial defenses.
If you love Detection Engineering and Threat Hunting at scale, whilst in the environment and energy of a SOC, this is the role for you!
Responsibilities:
Contribute to all parts of the detection lifecycle by creating new rules, testing them before deployment, monitoring efficacy, and tuning, promoting, or retiring rules based on their performance.
Develop rules across a variety of Huntress products and operating systems such as: Identity Threat Detection and Response (ITDR), Security Information and Event Management (SIEM), Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR), Windows, Linux, and MacOS.
Manage any DE&TH requests raised internally or escalated from our partners.
Undertake hypothesis-driven hunts across Huntress telemetry, prioritising techniques and tradecraft that may evade high-fidelity detections and initial SOC review.
Consume threat intelligence and translate IOCs, TTPs, and internal findings into new or refined detections through Git-based workflows.
Build and refine hunting dashboards or queries required to surface potential intrusions.
Review ambiguous signs of attacker activity across Huntress products, and surface likely intrusions that require deeper investigation.
Investigate or escalate likely intrusions identified to ensure partners receive clear incident reports with accurate advice.
Contribute findings to community-driven projects and create Huntress content such as blogs, social posts, videos, podcasts, and webinars.
Use AI-assisted workflows to prototype queries, enrich analysis, and develop a scaffolding for detection rules, ensuring you apply sound judgment to validate the AI output. We expect everyone at Huntress to be able to use AI as a real part of how they work, not occasionally, but genuinely embedded in core workflows.
What You Bring To The Team:
2+ years of experience in detection engineering, threat hunting, SOC, MDR, or incident response.
Intermediate knowledge of Windows internals.
Working knowledge of Linux, macOS, Microsoft 365, Azure, and Google Workspace.
Experience developing, testing, tuning, and documenting detections or analytics from threat intelligence, IOCs, hypotheses, or real-world investigations.
Ability to communicate findings through clear written reports.
Strong familiarity with detection languages such as Sigma, Suricata, Snort, or YARA, and query languages such as KQL, EQL, ES|QL, or Splunk SPL.
A sound understanding of adversary tradecraft, including techniques used for persistence, privilege escalation, defense impairment, lateral movement, discovery, and collection on a system.
A sound understanding of the roles different threat actors play and their associated goals, such as: initial access brokers, ransomware affiliates, and state-sponsored entities.
Ability to orchestrate reusable AI workflows that improve threat hunting, detection development, or analysis, and can verify AI-generated outputs before they reach production environments.
Bonus points for:
Intermediate knowledge of Linux and MacOS internals.
Hands-on experience using tools to remotely discover evidence of compromise such as OSquery, Velociraptor, and EDR/MDR/XDR platforms.
Previous use of forensic tooling such as Eric Zimmerman's EZ Tools, RegRipper, Hayabusa, or Chainsaw to analyze endpoint artifacts.
Intermediate malware analysis skills.

About Niantic Spatial
AI has learned from almost everything online, but it still struggles with the physical world, where 99.5% of economic activity happens. It doesn’t know where things are, how spaces fit together, or what changes over time.
That’s one of the biggest unsolved problems in AI, and it’s the one we’re solving at Niantic Spatial. We build spatial AI models and services so people and machines can reason, learn and act safely in the physical world. We turn camera imagery, video, sensor data and archives into accurate, AI-readable representations of real places that robots can train in and machines can use to know exactly where they are.
In physical AI, mistakes have real consequences. That’s why we build AI grounded in measured reality, not guesswork, so the people and machines relying on it can trust it to get things right.
Our team built some of the world’s most widely used maps. Now we’re building something bigger: a living, measured record of the real world that machines can query, learn from and use to understand how places change over time. If you want to help AI understand the world we actually live in, come build with us.
About the Role
Niantic Spatial makes the physical world computable, helping people and machines collaborate safely by aligning how they understand reality. One of the fundamental problems we're helping autonomy teams and engineers overcome is the sim-to-real gap for visual-spatial understanding. We're applying our team's decades of experience encoding the world precisely as it is at Google Maps, Google Earth, and Niantic Labs to build the scalable real-to-sim stack for embodied AI.
We're looking for a Senior Computer Vision Engineer to join our Embodied AI team, focused on 3D scene understanding and semantics. A reconstructed environment is only useful to a robot once it knows what is in it: which surfaces are floor, which objects can be grasped, moved, or opened, where one room ends and another begins. You'll work hand in hand with our Research Scientists to take advances in open-vocabulary perception, 3D semantic labeling, and scene graph construction and turn them into reliable capabilities that embodied AI teams can use in production.
This is an applied research role. You'll live at the boundary between a research prototype and a production pipeline: adapting methods so they hold up on messy customer captures, lifting 2D semantic signals into geometrically consistent 3D, defining what "semantically correct" means for a downstream policy, and feeding what you learn back into the research agenda. You understand that the difficult part is often not the core method, but the messy inputs, edge cases, operational constraints, and downstream requirements surrounding it. You care about quality, cost, latency, and reliability, and you know that a system is only successful when people can depend on it. This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who wants to build, ship, and own outcomes. You'll help shape both the technology and the product, while remaining close to the code and the problems our customers are trying to solve.
What You'll Do
- Productionize 3D Scene Understanding Capabilities - Turn research prototypes in open-vocabulary segmentation, 3D semantic and instance labeling, affordance prediction, and scene graph construction into reliable pipeline components and services that operate across varied customer data and environments.
- Own End-to-End Output Quality - Ensure that reconstructed environments carry labels, instances, and relationships that are consistent, complete, and correct enough for downstream simulation and policy learning, and define what "correct enough" means for each customer workflow.
- Bridge Research and Production - Work day to day with the Embodied AI Research Scientist: pressure-test new methods on real customer data, identify where they break, and bring production and customer constraints back into research planning to prioritize the advances that matter most.
- Make Systems Robust to the Real World - Diagnose failures caused by capture quality, scene complexity, scale, calibration, coordinate conventions, and other assumptions that prototypes often leave implicit.
- Build Evaluation and Quality Infrastructure - Create datasets, regression tests, quality gates, and benchmarking tools that help the team measure whether changes improve the system.
- Improve Performance, Throughput, and Cost - Profile and optimize GPU and distributed workloads, reduce unnecessary reruns, and help establish the economics of running reconstruction at scale.
- Work Across the Product Boundary - Partner with Embodied AI product and engineering teams to understand customer requirements and deliver capabilities that fit real training, evaluation, and deployment workflows. Help evolve the representations, tooling, and operational systems that allow reconstructed environments to move reliably into customer applications.
What You'll Bring
- 5+ years of computer vision experience and a bachelor's degree or equivalent,
- Significant experience building and operating production computer-vision, machine-learning, graphics, or data-processing systems.
- Deep hands-on experience with scene understanding: semantic, instance, or panoptic segmentation; open-vocabulary detection and segmentation; or vision-language models applied to perception.
- Experience taking 2D perception into 3D, such as multi-view label fusion, 3D semantic segmentation, instance tracking across views, or scene graph construction over reconstructed geometry.
- Experience delivering reliable computer-vision or 3D systems used by other teams or customers, including the evaluation that proved they worked..
- Practical command of 3D and spatial data, including geometry, camera models, coordinate frames, calibration, and metric scale.
- Strong Python and PyTorch skills, with the ability to work in C++ or other performance-oriented environments when needed.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure, GPU workloads, distributed processing, or large-scale data pipelines.
Nice to Have
- Hands-on experience with 3D reconstruction, photogrammetry, structure from motion, Gaussian splatting, neural rendering, or meshing.
- Experience with SLAM, visual positioning, localization, or large-scale mapping systems.
- Experience with robotics, simulation, or embodied AI applications, in particular how semantic labels are consumed by a policy or a simulator.
- Built evaluation or benchmarking infrastructure for perception or reconstruction systems.
- Experience optimizing large-scale GPU inference workloads for cost, throughput, or latency.
- A publication record or contributions to widely used open-source perception codebases.
- Advanced degree in computer vision, robotics, machine learning, or a related field.
Competencies
- Relentless bias for action. You make decisions and ship as if the company’s success depends on it, because it does. You set the pace, and drive the people around you to rise to it.
- Intellectually honest. You know there’s just one job that underpins every other in a startup: find the truth. You are relentless in your pursuit of it, including when it challenges your own convictions, and you raise concerns when you see them — even when it's uncomfortable, and especially when it's unpopular.
- Pragmatic. You have no patience for not-invented-here Syndrome and analysis paralysis. You find the fastest path to a working capability without one-way doors that undermine scaling.
- Strong systems instincts. You understand that production quality includes reliability, observability, cost, latency, maintainability, and usability—not just algorithmic accuracy.
- Comfort with ambiguity. You can make progress when the problem, data, and requirements are still evolving.
Compensation & Benefits
Base salary range of $229,500 to $255,000 per year. Compensation also includes an annual bonus, equity, and a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision coverage, 401(k), and more.
Location & Work Model

About the role
We’re looking for AI Implementation Engineer who thrives at the intersection of automation, AI-assisted development, and practical tool-building. You’ll work alongside our existing engineers to design, build, and maintain the internal tools and automated workflows that power day-to-day operations across the company.
The work is hands-on and fast-moving: you’ll turn business needs into working solutions using n8n, LLM APIs (Claude, OpenAI), and AI-assisted development tools like Replit and Claude Code.
If you build with AI, want real ownership over features, and want to work closely with the people who use what you build, this is the role for you.
Responsibilities
Design, build, and maintain n8n workflows that automate internal business processes.
Troubleshoot and improve existing automations to keep them reliable, efficient, and easy to maintain.
Develop and launch lightweight internal tools using AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code and Replit.
Integrate systems and services through APIs and webhooks, including LLM APIs such as Claude and OpenAI.
Work directly with internal stakeholders to understand their needs and translate them into practical solutions.
Test tools and workflows, gather user feedback, and deliver improvements as business needs evolve.
Contribute new features to the team’s Operational Hub and collaborate with engineers on technical decisions.
Take ownership of assigned projects, from requirements gathering through launch and ongoing support.
2+ years of professional experience in QA (preferred), analytics, or project management. Hands-on programming skills are also welcome.
Hands-on experience building, debugging, and maintaining workflows in n8n or Make.com.
Ability to build and ship functional applications using AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Replit, Cursor, or similar.
A working understanding of APIs, webhooks, and data flows, with the ability to troubleshoot integration issues.
Basic proficiency in SQL, ideally BigQuery, including reading and working with structured data.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical teams.
Ability to understand business processes, clarify requirements, and translate them into practical tools and automations.
A proactive approach to problem-solving, willingness to learn, and ownership of your work.
Nice to have
Experience with Google APIs, particularly Sheets, Drive, and Calendar.
Familiarity with Clerk or similar authentication and authorization tools.
Knowledge of React or basic frontend development.
Experience integrating Slack, Asana, HubSpot, or similar business tools.
Experience in AdTech or MarTech.
Portfolio
If we move forward after the initial HR interview, we’ll ask you to share a portfolio of tools or automations you’ve delivered. Please highlight their measurable business impact and explain your personal contribution to each project.

- We build agents for the moments that matter, helping our customers rise to the occasion when service disruptions, major product launches, or global events like the World Cup https://www.linkedin.com/posts/claybavor_at-sierra-we-are-very-proud-to-have-partnered-activity-7491200203899760641-I27d?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop&rcm=ACoAABYjELMBZfjrg-wrv53M1tVXGe93FF3eTww drive millions of customer interactions.
- We bring Sierra’s Horizon https://sierra.ai/product/horizon vision to TMT by building agents that transform the entire customer relationship:
- Telecommunications: Turn one of the most frustrating customer experiences into one of the most personal, with agents that understand each subscriber, optimize their plan and savings, anticipate opportunities to add value, and earn their loyalty over time.
- Media: Turn every subscription into an ongoing, personalized relationship, with agents that help each subscriber get the most from their experience through the right content, offer, plan, and support from their free trial through retention.
- Technology: Bring the white-glove customer experience traditionally reserved for the largest enterprise accounts to every customer, helping them adopt the product, discover new ways to get value, expand their usage, and successfully renew.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Design and deliver production-grade AI agents https://sierra.ai/blog/meet-the-ai-agent-engineer: You'll build and ship highly performant, reliable, and intuitive AI agents that are central, mission-critical and drive revenue directly to Sierra's growth. These aren't prototypes—they are powerful, scalable systems running in production environments across industries like finance, healthcare, and commerce.
- Drive the Agent Development Life Cycle https://sierra.ai/blog/agent-development-life-cycle (ADLC): You'll have complete ownership and autonomy from initial pilot through deployment and continuous iteration. You'll be responsible for building, tuning, and evolving AI agents in production environments, defining the standard for ADLC best practices along the way.
- Partner with large enterprises and cutting-edge startups: You’ll work directly with leaders at some of the world’s largest enterprises to understand their most pressing business challenges, and build AI agents that transform how they operate at scale. You'll also partner with the most cutting-edge startups in Silicon Valley, embedding AI agents across their entire business stack to drive innovation and efficiency.
- Build the future of the platform: Your direct work with customers will guide the evolution of Sierra's core platform. You'll surface unmet needs, prototype new tools and features, and collaborate with research, product, and platform to shape the future of AI agent development and Sierra's product.
EXAMPLE PROJECTS
These are some examples of projects that engineers on our team have worked on recently:
- Create agents that pursue goals over weeks and months, reasoning about when to reach out, which channel to use, and what next action will move a customer relationship forward.
- Develop personalization and experimentation systems powered by Sierra's Context Engine https://sierra.ai/blog/context-engine that combine customer data, behavior, prior conversations, and real-time context to determine the right offer or experience, then learn from every interaction and experiment to autonomously improve personalization over time.
- Design conversational discovery agents that reason across huge content catalogs and rich subscriber context, using interests, history, entitlements, and the moment at hand to help someone quickly find something they'll actually want to watch, read, or listen to.
- Build agents that troubleshoot deeply integrated telecommunications and connected-device experiences, reasoning across account, billing, network, and device systems to diagnose issues and take the actions needed to resolve them.
- Experiment with new voice experiences and Voice Personas https://sierra.ai/blog/introducing-voice-personas tailored to each brand, customer, and moment, bringing the right empathy, energy, and conversational style to everything from navigating a frustrating telecom billing issue to helping someone discover their next favorite show or find the plan that's right for them.

OUR VALUES
