About the role
We're looking for a Data Scientist to take ownership of the datasets and evaluation workflows that underpin our AI Safety work. You'll turn real-world product data into reliable, well-structured datasets for training and evaluating models, and help build the processes and infrastructure to continuously assess how those models perform in production.
This is a hands-on role at the intersection of data science, ML, AI safety, and policy. You'll work closely with safety researchers, engineers, and policy specialists to translate complex safety requirements into practical data and evaluation systems - starting hands-on with collection, analysis, and labelling, then building the methodologies, contributor networks, and quality standards that let this work scale.
In this role, you will
- Own safety datasets end-to-end: collection, cleaning, labelling, quality control, versioning, and readiness for training and evaluation.
- Translate safety policy into clear, consistent labelling and evaluation criteria, working closely with policy specialists.
- Design and manage labelling processes, including sourcing, onboarding, and overseeing external contributors to a high quality bar.
- Build evaluation workflows for models in production, using real-world data to track performance and surface issues.
- Develop lightweight Python/SQL pipelines and tooling to make data work faster and reproducible, partnering with ML engineers on what "training-ready" looks like.
Who you are
- Experience as a Data Scientist, or similar, working with real-world datasets and ML models.
- Strong grasp of what makes a good dataset: collection, cleaning, sampling, labelling, quality control, evaluation.
- Comfortable with Python and SQL for analysis and practical data workflows.
- Strong critical thinking and judgement - comfortable with ambiguity and nuance, and able to turn complex guidelines into consistent, scalable decisions.
- Autonomous and a clear communicator, able to work across disciplines (policy, engineering, research) in a fast-moving, still-forming environment.
Bonus points
- Experience in AI safety, trust & safety, content moderation, or fraud/abuse detection.
- Experience building datasets or evaluation frameworks, or with adversarial/safety-focused ML.
- Experience managing human-in-the-loop labelling processes, dataset versioning, or ML pipeline tooling.
- Experience operationalising guidelines with policy or legal teams.
Location
This role is based in London, where you'll work closely with our AI Safety and Policy teams.
We are an equal opportunity employer and do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, veteran status, disability or other legally protected statuses.

About the role
As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will design, implement, and evolve product capabilities while solving high-scope backend problems and influencing the technical and product direction of our teams. You will move beyond "assigned work" to actively improve the quality, reliability, and performance of our systems. You will work across product, frontend, infrastructure, data, and security boundaries, making sound architectural trade-offs, communicating complex ideas clearly in an asynchronous environment, and helping define the standards for a high-scale, global product.
Why you’ll love this role
High Impact:
You aren't just shipping features; you are shaping the architecture of a global platform used by millions.
Technical Agency:
You will influence team objectives, technical direction, and long-range goals, helping us solve problems of high scope and complexity.

What you’ll do

Design and ship moderate to complex backend features with minimal guidance, making pragmatic choices between modular-monolith code, shared components, or independently operated services.
Raise the Bar:
Advocate for product quality, security, availability, and performance. You will define backend standards for style, maintainability, testing, APIs, and operational readiness.
Mentor & Lead:
Mentor associate and intermediate engineers, remove technical blockers, and improve team delivery practices through code and design reviews.
Operational Excellence:
Diagnose and prevent performance/reliability issues at scale. Participate in incident response and act as a technical owner where appropriate.
AI Integration:
Use AI in production engineering work to improve outcomes, evaluate its effectiveness, and coach others on responsible, high-judgment use.
What you’ll bring
Deep Backend Expertise:
A strong command of backend architecture, APIs, data systems, and performance tuning in a complex product or service environment.

WHY WORK AT HIGGSFIELD AI?
Higgsfield AI is the fastest-scaling generative AI company in history, hitting $700M in annual revenue run rate, 30M+ users worldwide, 10M+ generations per day, and powering 390 of Fortune 500 brands. We're building at the absolute frontier of AI-powered video creation and next-generation creative tools. Joining Higgsfield means becoming part of a high-impact team shaping the future of AI-native experiences, at a company that isn't just moving fast, but rewriting what fast looks like.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Everyone at Higgsfield is an A-player. We ship 200+ releases a year, serve 25M+ users across the world, and operate at the frontier of generative AI. We're looking for a Product Legal Counsel who can keep up with that speed: a lawyer who finds the path to "yes, and here's how" instead of defaulting to "no." You bring:
- High agency and extreme ownership — you embed with product teams, you don't wait for questions to land on your desk.
- Speed with judgment: pragmatic, risk-calibrated advice delivered on product timelines, not law-firm timelines.
- Genuine curiosity about generative AI and the fast-moving legal landscape around it.
- The ability to translate complex legal concepts into clear, actionable guidance for engineers, designers, and growth teams.
- Comfort with ambiguity: many of the questions you'll face have no settled answer yet — you'll form defensible positions where precedent doesn't exist.
WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON
- Act as the primary legal partner to product, engineering, and growth teams: review new features, models, and launches before they ship, at the pace we ship them.
- Own user-facing legal documents: Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, community and content guidelines, creator program terms (including Higgsfield Earn), and consumer disclosures across markets.
- Advise on intellectual property questions core to generative AI: training data, model outputs, user-generated content, licensing, and copyright risk — and help shape our positions as the law evolves.
- Build and refine our approach to content policy and trust & safety: likeness and voice rights, impersonation, moderation obligations, and takedown processes (including DMCA and equivalents).
- Advise on privacy and data protection compliance across our global user base (GDPR, CCPA, and other applicable regimes), partnering with engineering on privacy-by-design.
- Track and interpret emerging AI regulation worldwide (EU AI Act and beyond) and translate it into concrete product requirements.
- Support commercial and enterprise work: review agreements with Fortune 500 clients, partners, and vendors touching the product.
- Manage and coordinate outside counsel efficiently where specialist or local-law expertise is needed.
- Build scalable legal processes — launch review, escalation paths, self-serve guidance — so legal accelerates the company instead of bottlenecking it.
YOUR MUST-HAVES
- Qualified lawyer with 6+ years of experience, including meaningful time as product counsel or technology/IP counsel at a fast-moving tech company (in-house) or advising tech clients at a top firm.
- Strong grounding in at least two of: intellectual property, privacy/data protection, consumer protection, content/platform regulation.
- Hands-on experience drafting and maintaining user-facing terms and policies for a consumer or platform product.
- Proven ability to give fast, practical, risk-weighted advice to non-lawyers in a shipping-focused environment.
- Experience working with international/cross-border legal questions for a global user base.
- Excellent written and spoken English — you'll draft user-facing documents and advise the team in English daily.
YOUR GOOD-TO-HAVES
- Direct experience with generative AI, ML, or media/entertainment products and their IP questions.
- Familiarity with the EU AI Act, DSA, or other emerging platform and AI regulation.
- Experience with trust & safety, content moderation, or rights-of-publicity matters.
- Experience supporting enterprise SaaS or API commercial agreements.
- Additional languages (Russian is a plus for working with the Almaty team).
THE DEAL
- Full-time, on-site role in our Almaty office.
- Competitive salary in USD.
- Opportunity to grow alongside one of the fastest-scaling AI companies globally.
- High ownership, fast learning, and meaningful impact from day one.

Innovative Culture:
You will get to experiment with and integrate agentic AI into production engineering workflows, moving beyond simple prompt engineering to build resilient, AI-assisted systems.
Autonomy:
You will thrive in our remote-first, asynchronous organization, where clear written communication and self-direction are the pillars of success.
User-Centric Collaboration:
You’ll partner closely with PMs and designers to shape requirements, ensuring every technical decision delivers genuine value to our users.
What you’ll do
Drive Technical Direction:
Adaptability:
Proficiency in modern backend languages and a deep understanding of systems programming. We value the ability to learn and adapt over mastery of a single language.
Architectural Judgment:
Experience designing or evolving modular backend boundaries, bounded contexts, and migration-safe architectures.
Influence:
Ability to lead through influence, technical judgment, and clear written communication, effectively bridging the gap between product needs and technical reality.
Agentic AI Expertise:
Proven experience building or operating agentic systems in production—moving beyond prompt engineering to architecting loops, tool-use, and error-handling strategies that ensure reliability at scale.
