Perplexity is seeking experienced ML engineers to design, build, and optimize the recommendation systems that power core experiences on Perplexity.
Perplexity builds AI for those who expect more. Our products are designed to help people find answers, make their most consequential decisions, and complete increasingly ambitious work. Across these use cases, the Perplexity experience must feel deeply personal. Great recommendations and user understanding are central to delighting and delivering for each user.
To do this, we are reimagining recommendation systems for the LLM era. Our goal is to combine the intelligence of frontier LLMs, the personalization context that comes from real product usage, and the continual learning capabilities of modern recommendation systems. We build systems that draw on past context and connected data sources to deeply understand each user's needs and recommend the actions that help them get the most out of Perplexity.
WHY PERPLEXITY IS DIFFERENT
- Craftsmanship. We build high quality, tasteful products targeting both AI native and AI curious users.
- Ownership. You identify the problem, design the solution and ship it.
- Entrepreneurship. We think like founders, act with urgency, and hustle to deliver for each other and our users.
- Scholarship. Work among highly talented peers, pursuing knowledge and truth, upleveling ourselves, our teams, and our products.
- Partnership. We amplify each others’ strengths, break down silos, and give selflessly to help our colleagues deliver excellence.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Own the personalization and ranking behind key product surfaces to make Perplexity more useful and drive impact on core user and business metrics.
- Build user modeling that captures intent, preference, and propensity, and powers more relevant, more personalized experiences.
- Design the decision layer that balances competing objectives to produce the best overall experience for the user.
- Build the data and evaluation foundations that let these systems learn and improve with usage.
- Help shape the technical direction of ranking, recommendations, and personalization at Perplexity.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Deep, hands-on experience building production recommendation, ranking, or personalization systems at scale.
- Strong ML fundamentals, covering areas such as engagement modeling, model calibration, offline and online metrics, and online experimentation.

- For tech leadership roles, we will also look for prior experience setting technical direction for recommendation/ranking projects.
NICE TO HAVE
- Experience with large-scale ranking and training infrastructure (multi-stage retrieval and ranking, feature stores, real-time serving).
- Background in user understanding, feed ranking, notifications, growth, or lifecycle modeling.
OUR MISSION
Perplexity’s mission is to power curiosity. Curious people are the people who drive change in the world. Driving change is a continuous cycle of learning, building, and integrating.
Learn: curious people constantly learn new things by asking more. They question the status quo in their own expertise and they constantly learn outside of it. Research is essential to them and never ending.
Build: curious people make and create things, to show the world their new answers to problems no one else ever questioned. They take action on what they’ve learned. Makers need tools to create their products, their companies, their reality.
Integrate: they must interact with the world as it is to drive change and adoption. True leaders do not simply build something and hope. They must have armies of agents and workers who can constantly work in millions of small ways.
Repeat. For curious people this is a cycle that never ends.

Partner directly with execs and senior leadership to define programs of work that enable Fin to hit its highest priority company objectives
Take a holistic view across programs, connecting the dots back to company strategy and surfacing gaps, misalignment, or opportunities to streamline
Take ambiguous, high-stakes problems and drive them to clarity - defining the right structure, roles, and decision-making frameworks, often from scratch
Drive cross-functional decision-making by identifying the right stakeholders, surfacing the information they need and recommendations
Proactively identify program risks and anticipate change before it happens, driving action to course-correct and maintain momentum
Set and raise the bar for how program management works at Fin - creating new frameworks, challenging existing processes that aren't working, and feeding learnings back into how the team operates
Hold people accountable at every level, from workstream drivers to exec sponsors, ensuring progress and ownership across complex, cross-functional programs
Mentor and develop teammates, making the people around you better and faster
Evangelize program management across the company - shaping how other teams and orgs think about execution, collaboration, and ways of working
What skills do I need?

Proven experience working directly with senior level leadership, you’re comfortable engaging with and influencing senior executives and leadership to get to the right outcome
High ownership and agency, with the ability to manage multiple high-profile, high-visibility programs simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
A strategic thinker who connects execution to company strategy, spots gaps across programs, and understands how mission, product, and financial plan tie together
You are solutions oriented and proactive when it comes to taking action to solve problems and mitigate risks
You have strong facilitation and stakeholder management skills with a track record of bringing together senior-level viewpoints and driving alignment
You’re an excellent self-starter with a track record of seamless execution on complex programs with minimal guidance
You've built and significantly improved program management practices, frameworks, or ways of working at a previous company
Excellent communicator who can flex between an exec room and a cross-functional working group, adapting style and depth to the audience
Experience mentoring or developing others, whether direct reports or peers - you make the people around you better

At Render, we’re building the modern cloud platform for developers creating AI-native, full-stack, multi-service applications. Our mission is to eliminate the tradeoff between the power of hyperscalers and the simplicity of developer-friendly platforms—so teams can ship fast, scale reliably, and focus on their product, not infrastructure.
Unlike complex hyperscalers or ephemeral edge/serverless solutions, Render offers a developer-first experience with persistent compute, dynamic autoscaling, built-in orchestration, and observability, allowing teams to launch, scale, and manage real-world applications without writing infrastructure code or managing servers. Whether you're building LLM-powered applications, scalable SaaS products, or async processing pipelines, Render empowers teams to move fast and scale confidently from MVP to millions of users.
Our platform is trusted by over 7 million developers worldwide and continues to grow rapidly. In February 2026, we raised an additional $100M in Series C financing, bringing our total funding to $260M, to accelerate our vision of making cloud infrastructure both powerful and intuitive—designed for the speed of modern AI development.
We’re a diverse and talented team that values craft, velocity, and user experience. If you’re excited to help shape the future of the intelligent cloud and empower developers everywhere, we’d love to hear from you.
APPLYING TO RENDER
We're seeking candidates who possess high integrity, humility, and an insatiable drive to learn. Through reasoned discussions and continuous feedback, we strive to improve both individually and collectively. We foster an environment of mutual trust and respect, empowering effective debate to achieve the best outcomes for our customers and team.
We especially encourage members of underrepresented groups in the tech community to apply and understand that not all successful candidates will meet each requirement listed.
Our interview process is unique to each role, and we value the candidate experience just as much as our customer experience. We hope your conversations with us reflect a thoughtful process that is illuminative, enjoyable, and respectful of your time.
In order to deliver Render to our users, we must first provide the best internal developer platform for engineers to move fast, confidently, reliably, and securely along paved paths with the right set of tools, observability and guardrails. As Engineering Manager for the newly formed Platform team, you’ll lead a growing group of talented engineers — both established team members and future hires — who are energized by the opportunity to build this space alongside you.
Together, you will modernize and bring Render's internal developer platform and shared production infrastructure (observability, CI/CD, developer environments, storage, and more) from good to great. Because the landscape we operate in is evolving rapidly, we build infrastructure that is modular and adaptable, able to support a product direction that is itself responding to a fast-moving market without over-indexing on any single bet. This team will have tremendous impact; unlike most infrastructure teams that build for internal consumers, our infrastructure is the product. Not only will you be enhancing the velocity and impact of your fellow Render engineers, but the 4.5 million developers using our platform as well.
This role blends strong technical leadership with product thinking: you’ll partner closely with other engineering teams as well as product managers to translate user needs into high-quality, scalable systems that developers rely on every day. You’ll be responsible for guiding technical direction, developing engineers, and ensuring the team ships meaningful improvements quickly while maintaining the high standards that define Render’s platform. The ideal candidate brings a strong engineering background, a deep sense of ownership, and a passion for building products that developers love.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Lead and grow a team of platform engineers, supporting their development through mentorship, feedback, and clear technical guidance.
- Drive execution on key product initiatives from ideation through launch, balancing speed with high standards of reliability and quality.
- Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement across engineering practices and team processes.
- Engage deeply in technical discussions, guiding system design decisions and helping the team navigate architectural tradeoffs.
- Stay up to date with relevant industry trends, emerging tools, and developer practices that will inform future team learning and opportunities for investment.
- Help the team break down complex problems into incremental milestones that deliver value quickly while supporting long-term platform evolution.
- Ensure teams maintain a strong understanding of the developer experience and reliability, security, and velocity impact of the features they build.
- Partner closely with other teams like Runtime, Security, and Product to understand needs, align priorities, and ensure delivery of impactful features and solutions through thoughtful technical solutions and product roadmaps.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- 8+ years as an Engineer on an Infrastructure or similarly shaped team shipping products or features for other developers.
- 4+ years of experience managing people and developing engineers, including hiring, mentorship, and performance management.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, product, and design.
- Strong technical background with the ability to engage deeply in system design, architecture, and engineering tradeoffs.
- Ability to translate engineering goals and user needs into roadmaps and shipped features.
- A strong sense of ownership and accountability for both team outcomes and long-term system health.
- Experience improving Reliability and/or Developer Experience through tooling, processes, and team practices.
- Deep experience with open source technologies supporting an internal platform tool or cluster, build & deployment systems, CI/CD, observability, and/or configuration management.
NICE-TO-HAVES
- Background working on highly scalable distributed systems or infrastructure platforms.
- Experience on teams managing large fleets of developer environments, sandboxes, or testing ecosystems.
- Experience building platforms and/or products used directly by developers.
If this role excites you but you don’t meet every single requirement, we’d still love to hear from you—your unique experience might be just what we need.
BENEFITS
- 4 weeks of paid vacation.
- 14 weeks of fully paid parental leave for all parents to bond with a newly born, adopted, or fostered child. We will also work with you to create a supportive plan of return.
- Long-term disability, life insurance, and 401K plans.
- 100% employer-paid medical coverage and 99% employer-paid dental and vision coverage for you and a dependent. FSAs and HSAs are available as well.
- Monthly lifestyle stipend for wellness, mental health and therapy, hobbies, etc.
- Monthly cell phone and internet subsidy.
- Commuter benefits for Renders in the Bay Area, and home office stipends for remote Renders.
- Continuous learning benefits & related support.
This position is generally not eligible for new visa sponsorship. At Render's discretion, the business may sponsor existing visa transfers. Applicants who require sponsorship must receive business authorization.
Render is an equal-opportunity employer. We know that employing a team rich in diverse thoughts, experiences, and opinions allows our employees, product, and community to flourish. We make all employment decisions including hiring, evaluation, termination, promotional, and training opportunities, without regard to race, religion, color, sex, age, national origin, ancestry, sexual orientation, physical handicap, mental disability, medical condition, disability, gender or identity or expression, pregnancy or pregnancy-related condition, marital status, height and/or weight.
We will ensure that individuals with disabilities are provided reasonable accommodation to participate in the job application or interview process, to perform essential job functions, and to receive other benefits and privileges of employment. Please contact us to request accommodation.

ABOUT US
At LangChain, our mission is to make intelligent agents ubiquitous. We build the foundation for agent engineering in the real world, helping developers move from prototypes to production-ready AI agents that teams can rely on. We began as widely adopted open-source tools and have grown to also offer a platform for building, evaluating, deploying, and operating agents at scale.
With $125M raised at Series B from IVP, Sequoia, Benchmark, CapitalG, and Sapphire Ventures, we’re at a stage where we’re continuing to develop new products, growth is accelerating, and all team members have meaningful impact on what we build and how we work together. LangChain is a place where your contributions can shape how this technology shows up in the real world.
Today, our platform includes LangSmith (Observability, Evaluation, Deployment, Fleet, and Sandboxes), our open source frameworks (LangChain, LangGraph, and Deep Agents), and the newly launched LangSmith Engine for autonomous agent improvement. We have 100M+ monthly open source downloads, 6,000+ active LangSmith customers, and 5 of the Fortune 10 use LangSmith in production (+ 35% of the Fortune 500 overall), including teams at Klarna, Clay, Coinbase, Workday, Lyft, Cloudflare, Harvey, Rippling, Vanta, LinkedIn, Monday.com, Nvidia, and Bridgewater.
ABOUT THE TEAM
The Deployed Engineering team works directly with companies building and running AI agents in production, helping turn ideas and prototypes into systems teams can rely on.
This is a hands-on, highly technical team that partners closely with customer engineers across the full lifecycle, from pre-sales evaluations to post-deployment advisory work. The focus is on achieving the technical win, co-designing agent architectures, and helping customers operate agents reliably at scale using the LangChain suite.
Deployed Engineers sit at the intersection of engineering, product, and go-to-market, shaping how LangChain is adopted in the field and feeding real-world insights back into the platform.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Deployed Engineer…You’ll work on some of the hardest problems in applied AI — not demos, not research, but systems that real teams depend on in production. The feedback loop is fast, the impact is visible, and the work you do directly shapes how AI agents are built in the real world.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Co-architect and co-build production AI agents with customer engineering teams
- Own the technical win in pre-sales by designing POCs, answering deep technical questions, and guiding evaluations
- Help customers deploy and operate agent-based applications such as conversational agents, research agents, and multi-step workflows
- Advise customers post-sale on architecture, best practices, and roadmap-level decisions
- Run technical demos, trainings, and workshops for developer audiences
- Surface field feedback and contribute reusable patterns, cookbooks, and example code that scale across customers
- Occasionally contribute code upstream when it meaningfully improves customer outcomes
WHAT YOU’LL BRING

Overview
We are hiring a Sr Software Engineer in Test specializing in ML/AI quality, including automation for model evaluation, LLM-assisted test generation, and validation of AI-powered workflows. The role includes guiding quality strategy and developing automation frameworks. You will also manage implementation for complex, cross-functional, machine learning-powered products and services. This role involves more than test development. You will lead quality initiatives from start to finish, ensuring teams stay synchronized, dependencies are managed, and releases are delivered confidently. You will work closely with ML, engineering, product, and infrastructure teams. You will shape how quality is built, monitored, and expanded while leading embedded QE efforts within projects.
What you’ll do
Define and complete quality strategies, test plans, and automation coverage for ML-powered services and platform components.
Use LLMs and other AI-assisted techniques to generate, expand, and maintain high-value test cases for ML-powered workflows.
Design scenario-based test suites for AI features, including adversarial prompts, edge cases, ambiguous inputs, and underrepresented user scenarios.
Lead QE efforts for multi-functional projects, driving risk assessment, dependency management, and release readiness.
Design, develop, and maintain scalable automation frameworks for backend services, APIs, and ML inference systems using Python and/or Java.
Build automated validation for ML and LLM outputs, including ranking behavior, score distributions, prompt/response quality, hallucination indicators, and probabilistic model evaluation.
Debug test failures, service anomalies, model inconsistencies, and AI behavior regressions to identify root causes and drive resolution.
Perform functional, integration, regression, API, end-to-end, performance, and reliability testing for distributed systems.
Improve automation reliability, reduce flakiness, and optimize execution efficiency.
Partner with engineering and ML teams to integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines and release workflows.
