Here at Humanoid, we believe in a future where robots amplify human potential. That’s why we’ve set out on a mission to build the world’s most capable, commercially-scalable, and safe humanoid robots. We’re bringing that mission to life with HMND‑01 - our rapidly developed humanoid platform being deployed in real industrial environments - and we’re growing the team to take it even further.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We're hiring a Strategic Finance lead to be the CFO's right hand on the decisions that shape Humanoid's path from pilots to mass production and, ultimately, the public markets. You'll own the models behind how we price, build, fund and grow, and turn them into clear recommendations for the leadership team and the board.
Reports to: Chief Financial Officer Location: London (One Triton Square, Regent's Place), with travel to our labs in Boston, San Diego and Vancouver and to customer and manufacturing sites.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Unit economics
- Build and own the unit economics model per robot: BOM, landed cost, deployment,
service, uptime and cost per effective hour versus human labour.
- Track the cost-down path across product generations and tie engineering and supply-
chain decisions to margin impact.
- Model customer payback and lifetime value by segment, use case and contract
structure.
Pricing and packaging
- Design pricing for Robot-as-a-Service (RaaS) and outright purchase, including volume
tiers, multi-year step-downs, service levels and software add-ons.
- Build deal models for large enterprise contracts and support commercial teams
through negotiation.
- Partner with Legal and Accounting on revenue recognition implications of contract
structures (e.g. lease versus service).
M&A and strategic transactions
- Run financial analysis on acquisitions, joint ventures, strategic partnerships and
supplier investments: valuation, synergies, structuring and accretion/dilution.
- Support diligence, build board materials and track post-deal performance against the
case.
Debt and capital modeling
- Model venture debt, term loans, equipment and fleet financing, and working-capital
facilities, including covenants, amortisation and headroom.
- Build the integrated capital plan linking equity rounds, debt and runway, and support
fundraising with investor-grade models and data rooms.
Budgeting and forecasting
- Own the annual budget and rolling forecast, with a driver-based, three-statement
model that ties production ramp, headcount, capex and cash.
- Run monthly business reviews with budget owners, explain variances and keep burn
and runway visible to leadership and the board.
- Lead scenario planning on production volumes, component costs, pricing and timing of
capital.
Manufacturing finance
- Partner with Operations, Supply Chain and our contract manufacturers on capacity
plans, capex, inventory, standard costing and supplier terms.
- Build make-versus-buy, should-cost and capacity investment cases as we scale toward
mass production
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- 7+ years in strategic finance, FP&A, corporate development or investment banking,
with at least 3 years in a high-growth, venture-backed company.
- Hands-on experience scaling a startup through rapid growth: you've built finance
processes from scratch while the business doubled around you.
- Manufacturing or hardware experience: you understand BOMs, standard costing,
capex, inventory and contract manufacturing, ideally in robotics, automotive, EV,
aerospace or industrial technology.
- Proven track record on unit economics and pricing, including recurring or usage-based
models.
- Direct experience with M&A or strategic transaction analysis, from valuation through
to board approval.
- Strong debt modeling: you've modeled and helped negotiate venture debt, term loans
or asset-backed facilities, including covenants.
- Ownership of budgeting and forecasting cycles, with a driver-based three-statement
model you built yourself.
- Expert Excel / Google Sheets modeling; comfort with ERP and planning tools.
- Clear communicator who turns complex analysis into crisp recommendations for
founders, boards and investors.
- Thrives at high pace and with ambiguity: you move fast, prioritise ruthlessly and stay
accurate under pressure
WHAT WE OFFER
- Competitive equity: stock options with meaningful upside as we scale.
- 30+ paid days off, including 23 days of annual leave, all UK bank holidays, and additional company closure days (including Christmas–New Year shutdown).
- Private healthcare, including virtual and in-person care.
- Pension scheme with 8% total contribution (5% employee, 3% employer) on full earnings.
- Free daily breakfast, catered lunch, and snacks in-office.
- Work at the frontier - collaborate daily with world-class engineers, researchers, and product experts building the next generation of AI and humanoid robotics.
- Real ownership - direct access to founding leadership, meaningful input on product direction, and the ability to drive key initiatives from day one.

About the job
As a member of our AI research team, you will drive innovation in model compression and efficient deployment for advanced multimodal AI systems, including large language models (LLMs) and vision-language models (VLMs). Your work will focus on reducing model footprint and computational cost while preserving accuracy, enabling high-performance AI to run efficiently across resource-constrained edge devices. You will apply and advance compression techniques such as quantization, knowledge distillation, and pruning to streamline complex multimodal architectures that integrate text, images, and audio.
We expect you to have deep expertise in model compression methods and a strong background in multimodal model architectures. You will adopt a hands-on, research-driven approach to develop, test, and implement novel compression strategies that balance model size, latency, throughput, and accuracy. Your responsibilities include building robust compression pipelines, establishing performance and fidelity metrics, and addressing bottlenecks in production inference. The ultimate goal is to deliver scalable, low-memory, low-latency AI systems on edge devices (i.e., smartphones) that maintain high fidelity and tangible real-world value.
Responsibilities
Break down the key responsibilities in bullet points. It’s helpful to make them actionable and measurable. This could also be grouped into categories for more complex roles.
Apply low-bit quantization to reduce model size and inference latency for generative AI models (LLMs, VLMs, multimodal) while maintaining accuracy and output quality.
Leverage knowledge distillation to transfer capabilities from larger teacher models to smaller student models, enabling efficient multimodal reasoning across text, image, and audio inputs.
Implement pruning techniques to remove redundant parameters and attention heads, reducing computational overhead without sacrificing task performance.
Analyze trade-offs between model efficiency (size, latency, memory) and accuracy across quantization, distillation, and pruning methods; propose improvements based on empirical findings.
Research and apply mixed-precision quantization and other advanced compression strategies (e.g., adaptive pruning schedules, distillation with intermediate feature matching) to optimize the accuracy–performance balance.
Stay current with the latest research in model compression, including emerging techniques for multimodal and generative architectures.
Document methodologies, experiments, and results clearly to support reproducibility, internal collaboration, and stakeholder communication.
Author technical papers and publish findings in top-tier conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR, ACL, AAAI) to advance the field of model compression for multimodal AI.
List the qualifications, certifications, and experience needed for the role. You can split this into mandatory and preferred sections if needed.
A degree in Computer Science or related field. Ideally PhD in NLP, Machine Learning, or a related field, complemented by a solid track record in AI R&D (with good publications in A* conferences).
Experience with PyTorch deep learning frameworks or equivalent frameworks
Hands-on experience with model quantization including both Quantization-Aware Training (QAT) and Post-Training Quantization (PTQ).
Research and hands-on experience with knowledge distillation for compressing large models into smaller, efficient ones.
Research and hands-on experience with model pruning for compressing large models into smaller, efficient ones.
Solid understanding of neural network architectures and training processes – Including transformers (e.g., LLMs, VLMs), backpropagation, optimization, and fine-tuning techniques.
Familiarity with C++ is a plus (especially for implementing low-level quantization kernels or inference optimizations).
