Why Sony Interactive Entertainment?
Sony Interactive Entertainment isn’t just the Best Place to Play — it’s also the Best Place to Work. Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) is the company behind the PlayStation brand. As a subsidiary of Sony Group Corporation, we’re part of a proud legacy of innovation and excellence. SIE is a dynamic technology company, delivering cutting-edge hardware and network services to more than 100 million people and an entertainment leader, home to some of the most beloved and recognizable intellectual properties (IP) in the world. About GDFT
Gaming, Developer, and Future Technology (GDFT) are the technology specialists at PlayStation. We build the underlying systems that power core platform capabilities and developer tools. Our mission is to enable world-class gaming experiences by delivering low-level, high-performance technology for PlayStation platforms.
The Role
We are looking for an engineer to join the GDFT department, working on the design and optimisation of PlayStation’s real-time game streaming technologies.
You will contribute to the development of low-latency video streaming systems across current and future PlayStation platforms, working on performance-critical areas spanning frame capture, media pipelines, codec configuration, system services and streaming transport.
The role is particularly suited to engineers with a strong C/C++ background and experience working with native video or media systems, including embedded devices, TV firmware, set-top boxes, consoles, or similar.
Our work sits at the intersection of product engineering and R&D. Alongside delivering production technology, engineers are encouraged to investigate new approaches to reducing end-to-end latency, improving visual quality and reducing bitrate, using measurement and experimentation to determine where meaningful improvements can be made.
What You'll Be Doing
Develop, optimise and maintain low-level C and C++ components within PlayStation’s game streaming stack.
Investigate opportunities to reduce end-to-end streaming latency across frame capture, buffering, encoding, transport, decoding and presentation.
Optimise the use and configuration of hardware video encoders, applying knowledge of codec behaviour and low-latency encoding techniques.
Analyse existing media pipelines to identify unnecessary buffering, memory copies, synchronisation delays and other sources of latency.
Use software and hardware instrumentation to measure system behaviour, validate hypotheses and quantify the impact of performance changes.
Investigate and debug issues across user-space applications, system services and daemon-level components.
Prototype and evaluate new approaches to improving streaming quality, latency and bandwidth efficiency.
Work with engineers and researchers across the wider organisation on areas such as codec development, rate control, Forward Error Correction and emerging media technologies.
Contribute technical findings and recommendations to design discussions, working with senior engineers to determine appropriate production solutions.
Collaborate across teams to integrate and validate streaming technologies within PlayStation platform software.
Attend periodic in-person workshops or team events, with travel possible a few times per year.
What We Are Looking For
This is a mid-level opportunity. You should bring some of the following skills and experience:
Strong proficiency in C and C++.
Experience developing native, performance-sensitive software rather than primarily web or managed application stacks.
Experience working with real-time video, media pipelines, codecs or embedded multimedia systems.
Practical understanding of video compression and media formats, including concepts such as chroma subsampling, bit depth and colour representation, with familiarity of codecs such as AVC, HEVC or AV1.
Understanding of concepts relevant to low-latency video encoding, which may include GOP structures, reference frames, rate control, VBV, quantisation parameters, slices, tiles or hardware codec APIs.
Strong debugging, profiling and performance-analysis skills.
An ability to investigate complex technical problems, identify likely causes and use evidence and instrumentation to support conclusions.
Comfortable working in unfamiliar parts of a large system and developing an understanding of how multiple components interact.
An experimental mindset, with an interest in prototyping, measuring and evaluating alternative technical approaches.
Ability to contribute to technical discussions and work with senior engineers when deciding how findings should be taken forward.
Highly Desirable Skills:
Experience in one or more of the following areas would be advantageous; we do not expect candidates to have experience across all of them:
Familiarity with techniques for evaluating video codec performance, including bitrate/quality/latency trade-offs and objective or perceptual video quality metrics (such as PSNR and VMAF).
Familiarity with compressed video bitstreams and codec signalling, such as NAL units/OBUs, parameter sets, profiles/levels and supplemental enhancement information.
Experience developing native video players, media frameworks or codec pipelines on TVs, set-top boxes, consoles, mobile devices or other embedded platforms.
Experience configuring or integrating hardware video encoders or decoders.
Deeper knowledge of H.264, HEVC, AV1 or other current and emerging video codecs, beyond high-level API configuration, such as reference structures, rate-control behaviour, bitstream structure or encoder-specific optimisation.
Experience optimising real-time video for low latency, visual quality or bitrate efficiency.
Familiarity with frame capture, graphics presentation pipelines, framebuffers or GPU/CPU synchronisation.
Experience identifying and reducing memory copies, queueing delays, memory-bandwidth limitations or other system-level performance bottlenecks.
Experience working with system services, daemons, firmware interfaces or other low-level platform components.
Familiarity with techniques such as content-aware encoding, region-of-interest encoding, adaptive resolution or frame rate, alternative reference-frame strategies or similar streaming optimisations.
Experience with Forward Error Correction or other techniques for improving the resilience of real-time media.
Experience with SIMD, vectorisation, cache optimisation or multithreaded performance tuning with instrumentation.
Experience with console or embedded systems development environments.
Experience with Git, Jenkins or similar CI/CD workflows.
Why Work in GDFT

Web3: viem, ethers
AI: Claude Code, MCP, custom skills and plugins, AI code review in CI
The role
We are looking for a senior engineer who builds product features end-to-end — mostly on the frontend, with the confidence to change the backend when the feature needs it — and who already works agent-first. Our team plans, writes, tests, and reviews code with AI agents. You will own the frontend of our payment products and help turn good AI habits into shared team workflows.
The split is roughly 70% frontend / 30% backend.
What you will work on
Crypto on/off-ramp widget — an embeddable buy/sell flow with KYC, card payments with 3-D Secure, alternative payment methods, and a customer account area—one codebase, built for multiple white-label brands.
Merchant checkout — hosted payment pages, from a simple one-step checkout to a full multi-step flow with KYC and compliance screens.
Back-office admin apps — internal tools that operations, compliance, and support use every day. A legacy admin is being replaced by a new one built on a modern stack.
Backend changes — API endpoints and business logic in our Java/Spring Boot services, so a feature doesn't stop at the API boundary.
Responsibilities
Own features from ticket to production: UI, API contract, backend change, tests, release, and monitoring.
Make frontend architecture decisions and drive ongoing migrations (legacy admin → new admin, older UI libraries → modern stack, stricter type checks).
Build and improve AI-driven development workflows: project context files, shared skills and commands, automated PR review in CI, agent-driven end-to-end and visual checks.
Review code — both teammates' and agents' — and keep the quality bar high.
Work with product, design (Figma), QA, and backend engineers in a weekly release cycle.
Must have
5+ years of commercial frontend development, 3+ years with React + TypeScript in production.
Solid modern React: server-state management
(TanStack Query or similar), client state (Zustand/Redux), forms, routing, performance. Comfortable with large legacy codebases, not just greenfield projects.
Production backend experience in at least one language.
Java or Kotlin with Spring is a plus; Node.js/TypeScript, Go, or others are fine. You can design a REST API, work with PostgreSQL (schema, indexes, migrations), and ship changes in our Java services.
Agentic development is your daily way of working — with Claude Code, Codex, or a similar agent, not just autocomplete. Specifically:
you keep project context files (
CLAUDE.md
/
AGENTS.md
) and write your own skills, commands, or subagents;
you connect agents to real tools through MCP (issue tracker, GitHub, Figma, databases, browser);
you work in a plan → implement → verify loop, where the agent proves its work with tests, type checks, and browser automation;
you run agents in parallel and headless (for example, an AI review bot in CI);
you review agent output critically and know the failure modes: invented APIs, silent scope creep, "fixing" a test instead of the code, leaked secrets, prompt injection;
you keep up with how agentic tools change (new features, models, practices) and bring what works into your workflow
.
Testing: Playwright for end-to-end, Vitest/Jest for unit and integration tests.
Security-minded: real money, personal data, auth tokens, iframes, and cross-origin messaging.
Fluent Russian (the team's working language). English good enough to read and write technical texts: tasks, pull requests, and docs are in English.
Nice to have
Payments/fintech: card flows and 3-D Secure, alternative payment methods, KYC SDKs (e.g., SumSub), fraud prevention, open banking.
Web3 on the frontend: viem / ethers, wallet connection, EIP-712 signing.
Multi-brand (white-label) products, theming and design tokens.
OpenAPI-generated clients (Orval), TanStack Router / Table.
Kotlin, Spring Boot, NATS, Temporal.
Docker, Kubernetes, GitHub Actions, GitOps (FluxCD), Cloudflare Workers.
How we work with AI
Every main repository has AI context files and repo-specific skills.
An internal plugin marketplace ships team-wide skills (code review, release flow, back-office operations).
AI code review runs on pull requests in CI. It advises, and humans decide.
Custom MCP servers provide agents with secure access to internal systems.
The company pays for AI tooling.
What we offer
Fully remote work in an international team.
A team where AI-first engineering is the norm, not an experiment.
Real influence on architecture and on how the team works.
A product at real scale: millions of users and thousands of partner platforms.
Competitive salary based on individual performance review.
Transparent feedback culture that values ownership and visible impact.
Recruitment process
Apply with your CV.
Application review.
HR interview with a short technical screen.
Technical interview: a live task solved with your own AI agent while sharing your screen, plus a design discussion.
Final interview with the CTO.
Offer.

About the Role
We're looking for a Lead AI Engineer to own the backend and Agent systems behind our LLM-powered products. The role is end to end: you'll build the Agent workflows, define how we measure quality, keep them reliable in production, and shape where the product goes next.
This role is for someone who has shipped LLM features to real users, stayed with them after launch, and can prove with data that their changes made things better.
Job Scope:
Build and own AI backend and Agent workflows
- Design, build, and maintain multi-turn conversation systems, including context management, tool calling, knowledge retrieval (RAG), state management, and human handoff.
Drive evaluation and continuous improvement
- Define success criteria with Product, Design, and QA leads.
- Turn production failures into evaluation samples and regression tests.
- Measure the impact and side effects of every change before and after release.
Diagnose problems across the stack
- Isolate the root cause of failures: model judgment, knowledge gaps, abnormal tool responses, backend instability, or conflicting rules.
- Apply the right fix for each cause rather than defaulting to prompt tweaks.
Own production reliability
- Handle timeouts, retries, graceful degradation, async jobs, and third-party dependency failures.
- Make sure every issue is traceable through logs, every change is versioned, and every failure has a recovery path.
Shape product and technical decisions
- Give clear, reasoned positions on requirements, covering feasibility, cost, risk, and alternatives.
- Propose better approaches and break work into phased, shippable deliverables.
Communicate proactively and follow through
- Share progress, blockers, ETAs, and next checkpoints without needing to be chased.
- After launch, track real-world impact and leave clear documentation and handover materials.
Requirements:
- Production LLM/Agent experience at scale. You've built LLM or Agent features used by 10,000+ active users, and you've maintained and improved them after launch.
- Strong backend engineering fundamentals. You're comfortable owning production code, APIs, data flows, and incident troubleshooting. Experience designing and implement backend services in Golang and integrate with LLMs and AI systems.
- Real evaluation discipline. You've built evaluation sets, regression suites, and production monitoring, and you can explain how you confirmed an improvement was real rather than random fluctuation.
- Ownership mindset. You make decisions, surface risks early, and don't consider a feature done until it's verified in production.
- Web3 experience. Preferably 1 year of experience in a crypto, DeFi, or Web3 company (wallet, exchange, L1/L2 protocol, or DeFi platform strongly preferred)
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This is a global and fully remote role. You must have the right to work for the country you are based.
