About Us
Fivetran and dbt Labs are bringing together two industry-leading companies with a shared mission: helping organizations unlock the full value of their data.

Fivetran helps organizations automate data movement across the systems, clouds, engines, and tools they rely on. dbt Labs pioneered analytics engineering, helping teams transform data into reliable, governed insights. Together, we support thousands of organizations as they build a trusted foundation for analytics, AI, and better business decisions.
As we bring our teams and technology together, we’re building on the strengths of both companies while continuing to deliver the products and experiences our customers know and trust. It’s an exciting time to join us: we’re creating a company with the scale, talent, and technology to help more organizations put their data to work with greater speed, confidence, and impact.
During this transition period, you may see references to both Fivetran and dbt Labs throughout our recruiting process as we integrate our teams, systems, and career sites.

We are forming a new Observability team responsible for the design, evolution, and operation of our company-wide monitoring, logging, and tracing platforms.
This role is a key part of our strategic shift from Datadog to a self-hosted observability stack fully compliant with local regulatory requirements.
Today, we operate multiple observability systems — our legacy stack based on Datadog (logs, metrics, APM, RUM, dashboards, and alerts), and our new Elastic Enterprise platform used for storing audit, access, application, and database logs required by regulators.
On top of Elastic, we've built SOC2 and SIEM integrations with external vendors.
You'll be part of a small, highly technical team tasked with defining the future of observability at scale - designing, migrating, and maintaining the platforms that power visibility, compliance, and reliability across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Build and operate the new observability platform on Kubernetes: telemetry collectors, Kafka-based ingestion and processing pipelines, and the storage and query layer (ClickHouse, Mimir, Grafana)
Automate the platform's infrastructure with Terraform, Helm, and GitOps tools (FluxCD or ArgoCD)
Troubleshoot the platform end-to-end (Kubernetes, networking, pipelines) and plan its capacity, scaling, and cost
Support and gradually decommission Datadog integrations (logs, metrics, APM, RUM, dashboards, monitors)
Collaborate with SRE, DevOps, and Security teams to ensure observability compliance and integration with SOC 2 / SIEM
Define and maintain SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets, improving service reliability and visibility
Document architecture, data flows, and best practices
Requirements:
Must Have:
4+ years in DevOps / SRE / Observability roles
3+ years running production workloads on Kubernetes
Infrastructure as code with Terraform
Solid Linux and networking fundamentals, with strong troubleshooting skills
Hands-on experience with a public cloud (GCP preferred; AWS or Azure also welcome)
Experience building or operating data pipelines or observability platforms at scale (logs, metrics, or traces)
Nice to Have:
OpenTelemetry (collectors, Grafana Alloy, instrumentation)
Kafka and ClickHouse
Hands-on experience with metrics and APM platforms (Prometheus, VictoriaMetrics, Mimir, etc.) and Grafana
Elastic Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana, Beats, log shippers)
Exposure to security monitoring / SIEM integration
Service mesh (Istio)
Why Join Us:
Design and build the next-generation observability platform from the ground up
Work on large-scale, multi-cloud environments with a strong focus on compliance, performance, and reliability
Collaborate with experienced SRE, Platform, and Security teams
Competitive compensation, remote work model, and strong career growth opportunities
What we offer:
Full-time B2B contract
Fully remote setup, work from anywhere in Europe
Up to 20% tax allowance
22 paid leave days annually
Stock options (ESOP) in a fast-scaling, pre-IPO company
Flexi benefits you can use for wellness, travel, or learning

An overview of this role
As a Senior Backend Engineer on Development Health, you'll help make the systems that engineering teams rely on more reliable, maintainable, and easier to extend. You'll build and improve the automation, tooling, and data that help teams spot problems early and ship with less friction.
As customer zero for GitLab, we support engineering workflows on GitLab's own product at scale. You'll use the product in demanding, real-world ways, surface the friction and gaps you find, and contribute to improvements that get built into the product for GitLab's customers.
You'll support work such as:
Health alerting and remediation routing for GitLab's core continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines
Flaky and slow test detection systems
Engineering analytics and reporting that engineering teams use to make decisions
What you’ll do
Own and evolve core Development Health systems, from design through production.
Improve the reliability, maintainability, and test coverage of long-lived automation, and reduce reliance on undocumented knowledge by documenting and simplifying legacy systems.
Partner with engineering managers and product teams to identify workflow pain points and turn them into well-scoped, measurable improvements.
Work with data to show whether changes improve engineering health, and use it to prioritize.
Mentor intermediate engineers through code review, design feedback, and pairing.
Communicate clearly in writing and asynchronously, including status, tradeoffs, and proposals for stakeholders across Engineering.
Monitor the health of production systems, troubleshoot incidents, and contribute to root cause analysis.
Use artificial intelligence (AI) agents and assistants to analyze issues and problem areas to help shape the team's product roadmap.
Take part in on-call or operational support where your team’s ownership model requires it.
What you’ll bring
Substantial experience as a backend or tooling engineer, with a track record of owning production systems end to end.
Strong proficiency in Ruby, or the ability to become productive quickly.
Experience maintaining or modernizing legacy codebases safely.
Comfort with CI/CD systems, application programming interfaces (APIs), and automation at scale.
Independent problem-solving and clear, concise written communication: you spot problems early, raise risks proactively, and drive work to completion without close direction.
Experience writing automated unit and integration tests and taking part in collaborative code review.
Experience using AI coding assistants to speed up development while critically reviewing their output.
Optional experience: Rails; developer productivity, engineering analytics, or internal tooling; GitLab's product and open source contribution workflow; data pipelines or metrics reporting; or agent-based workflows that run in production.
About the team
Development Health is part of Developer Experience. Our work is mostly internal, and our customers are GitLab team members across an engineering organization of hundreds of engineers.
We're all-remote, asynchronous by default, and documentation-driven, in line with GitLab's values of collaboration, results, efficiency, diversity, inclusion and belonging, iteration, and transparency.

An overview of this role
Support Engineering at GitLab believes that healthy teams deliver a healthy customer experience, and that command during a crisis shouldn't fall to whoever happens to be senior and available. GitLab's global Incident & Escalation Management (IM/EM) function coordinates critical incidents, complex multi-team engagements, and executive-level escalations for enterprise customers. As Escalation Manager, you'll own complex, executive, and commercial escalations where customer trust and the relationship are at stake, alongside or independently of a technical issue.
In this functional role, you'll advocate for customers inside GitLab, coordinate teams toward resolution, and lead relationship repair after the event.
What you'll do
Own complex, executive, and commercial escalations end-to-end, as defined in GitLab's IM/EM engagement model.
Advocate for customers internally and coordinate Engineering, Support, Product, Customer Success, and Sales toward resolution, tracking commitments and holding owning teams accountable to agreed dates and deliverables.
Maintain a written, customer-facing resolution plan from engagement through confirmed resolution, updating it at each communication milestone.
Coordinate with Incident Managers during concurrent technical incidents to maintain a single, coherent narrative for the customer.
Own external escalation communications using GitLab's approved templates and cadence, and represent GitLab in high-stakes customer conversations where clarity and ownership influence retention.
Engage Sales, Customer Success, and executive stakeholders as needed, including executive-to-executive communication for Severity 1 and 2 events. Brief GitLab leadership with concise summaries that distinguish what's known, what's unknown, and next steps.
Lead post-escalation reviews and relationship repair plans, contribute corrective actions with named owners and due dates to postmortems, and hand the relationship back to the account's Customer Success Manager at resolution.
Partner with the Head of IM/EM to develop playbooks, communication templates, and process improvements based on patterns from escalations.
What you'll bring
Experience in enterprise technical support, customer success, or incident and escalation management at a business-to-business software-as-a-service or enterprise software company.
A track record of owning complex, multi-stakeholder escalations end-to-end, including executive customer engagements and structured resolution or account plans.
Executive-level written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical detail into plain-language updates for customers and GitLab leadership.
The ability to coordinate Engineering, Support, Product, Customer Success, and Sales under pressure without formal authority over those teams.
Calm, structured decision-making with incomplete information and the ability to provide a steadying presence in high-stress customer situations.
Proficiency with support and coordination tools such as Zendesk, Salesforce, Slack, and PagerDuty, or equivalent platforms.
Availability for on-call coverage supporting executive escalations as part of a globally distributed team.
Nice to have:
Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Foundation or equivalent certification; customer-facing experience with GitLab, development, security, and operations (DevSecOps), continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD), or cloud-native products; experience with formal escalation or incident command frameworks; or AI-assisted support tools for triage, sentiment analysis, or resolution drafting.
About the team
The Incident & Escalation Management function sits within Support Engineering in GitLab's Enterprise Technology & AI (ETA) division. We operate a follow-the-sun model anchored in the Americas, Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and Asia-Pacific, providing year-round, 24-hour coverage for enterprise customers. Our Escalation Managers work globally rather than within a single region, partnering with Incident Managers, Communications Leads, and regional Support Engineering leadership. You'll help shape our playbooks, templates, and standards as we scale.

Set technical direction, mentor engineers, and lead delivery across ML, data engineering, cloud infrastructure, security, and product teams.

A record of building and operating large-scale distributed systems, ML infrastructure, or data platforms, with technical ownership across teams.
Hands-on experience optimizing production model performance, supported by measurable improvements in latency, throughput, utilization, or cost.

Experience with the model lifecycle, including training/serving integration, validation, deployment, observability, and rollback.
Strong Python, SQL, and at least one backend or systems language such as Java, Scala, Go, or C++.
Ability to turn ambiguous requirements into clear architecture and deliver maintainable systems through hands-on engineering and technical leadership.
