We are a global technology company headquartered in Toronto with key offices in London, New York City, San Francisco, Montreal, Paris, Berlin and Seoul. Join us!
Role Overview:
Large Language Models (LLMs) continue to push the boundaries of what AI systems can do — but inference is still the bottleneck. The Model Efficiency team is responsible for pushing the limits of LLM inference efficiency across our foundation models. We explore and ship breakthroughs across the model execution stack, including:
- model architecture and MoE routing optimization
- decoding and inference-time algorithm improvements
- software/hardware co-design for GPU acceleration

You'll find the Model Efficiency team concentrated in the EST and PST time zones, these are our preferred locations.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Staff Research Engineer, you will develop, prototype, and deploy techniques that materially improve how fast and efficiently our models run in production.
Qualifications:

- Have significant experience with one or more techniques that enhance model efficiency
- Strong software engineering skills
- An appetite to work in a fast-paced high-ambiguity start-up environment
- Publications at top-tier conferences and venues (ICLR, ACL, NeurIPS)
- Passion to mentor others
Working Location:
This role can be based remotely or from one of our office locations listed on the job description - there is no minimum in-office qualification requirement. We care most about hiring exceptional people regardless of locations, though please check the location listed on the posting for guidance around the core time zone or working hours alignment expected for the role.

Education & learning stipend for conferences, courses, and coaching.
- 6 weeks of paid vacation (30 working days!)
- Budget for traveling to other offices if you are remote, plus an annual company offsite.
HOW AND WHERE WE WORK:

- For those in the office: a daily lunch program, plenty of snacks, and regular community and social events.
- For those not near an office: a co-working benefit so you can work alongside others in your city.
- Everyone receives a $500 home office stipend to set up your workspace properly.

Our team is a fast-growing group of researchers and engineers focused on building reliable ML systems and pushing the boundaries of LLM inference efficiency. We develop techniques that improve how models execute in production, driving lower latency, higher throughput, and consistent quality across diverse workloads.
Please Note: We have offices in Toronto, Montreal, San Francisco, New York, Paris, Seoul and London. Job Responsibilities:
As an engineer on this team, you’ll work across the inference stack to improve core performance metrics by diving deep into model execution, identifying bottlenecks, and developing innovative optimizations. You’ll collaborate closely with modeling and systems teams to experiment, measure, and ship improvements that meaningfully accelerate inference. As the team evolves, you’ll have opportunities to build expertise in advanced performance techniques, including GPU/CUDA optimizations, kernel-level improvements, and model execution strategies for MoE and large-scale architectures.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience writing high-performance, production-quality code
- Strong programming skills in C++ or Python (Rust/Go also welcome)
- Experience working with large language models and familiarity with the LLM inference ecosystem (e.g., vLLM, SGLang, etc.)
- Ability to diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks across the model execution stack
- A strong bias for action — you ship fast, measure impact, and iterate
It’s a big plus if you have experience with:
- GPU programming, CUDA, or low-level systems optimization
- Language modeling with transformers (MoE, speculative decoding, KV-cache optimizations)
- Scaling performance-critical distributed systems (e.g., computation, search, storage)

What will I be doing?
As an experienced engineer you will:
Have a mastery of domain knowledge and work as a leader within the R&D org to drive key strategic projects.
Provide assessments of project progress, risks and challenges to engineering leadership to help guide resource allocation and prioritisation.
Contribute to our technical architecture as we grow. We scale to service requests from all our customers’ customers. We’re growing and so are they.
Care about agility as much you care for scalability and availability. Continuous deployment keeps us focused on incremental releases. Even our biggest technical achievements roll out piece by piece, feature flagged out of sight.
Contribute to all phases of software development including ideation, prototyping, design and implementation. This role has a mix of both hands-on development as well as lead/architecture work.
Build using the best tools in the industry. We invest heavily in AI-powered developer tools that remove friction and help you focus on solving meaningful problems.
Play an active role in hiring, mentoring and career development of other engineers
Raise the bar for technical standards, performance, reliability, and operational excellence
What skills do I need?
Ideally, you’ve built an exciting SaaS product in your previous roles and loved the satisfaction that comes with knowing that people around the world are using something you’ve created
Significant, demonstrated impact that your work has had on the product and/or the teams
Deep knowledge of a high-level programming language (for example, Ruby, Python, Perl etc.) but it doesn’t need to be a language that we use here! Great people are effective and learn what we use quickly (or introduce us to better ways of working)
You will have experience with Distributed systems
2+ years of experience as the primary technical leader for a team
Experience collaborating directly with technical leaders, product teams and designers, and a proven track record of delivering value to customers or users. Engineers at Fin are pragmatists who work closely with others on cross-disciplinary teams and have a strong sense of product strategy.
