From Fivetran’s founding until now, our mission has remained the same: to make access to data as simple and reliable as electricity. With Fivetran, customer data arrives in their warehouses, canonical and ready to query, with no engineering or maintenance required. We’re proud that more organizations continue to leverage our technology every day to become truly data-driven.
About Us
Fivetran and dbt Labs are bringing together two industry-leading companies with a shared mission: helping organizations unlock the full value of their data. Together, we’re delivering the data infrastructure layer that helps organizations move, transform, and trust their data — from the moment data moves, through every transformation, to the context teams and AI systems rely on. Fivetran helps organizations automate data movement across the systems, clouds, engines, and tools they rely on. dbt Labs pioneered analytics engineering, helping teams transform data into reliable, governed insights. Together, we support thousands of organizations as they build a trusted foundation for analytics, AI, and better business decisions. As we bring our teams and technology together, we’re building on the strengths of both companies while continuing to deliver the products and experiences our customers know and trust. It’s an exciting time to join us: we’re creating a company with the scale, talent, and technology to help more organizations put their data to work with greater speed, confidence, and impact. During this transition period, you may see references to both Fivetran and dbt Labs throughout our recruiting process as we integrate our teams, systems, and career sites.
About the role
We’re looking for a Staff Infrastructure Engineer with GCP, Azure, or AWS expertise to help us build a seamless, reliable platform for the dbt platform across AWS, Azure, and GCP. Our team’s mission is to create a seamless developers experience by providing a stable, observable, and easy-to-use infrastructure platform.
Over the past year, we’ve designed and operationalized a next-gen cell-based architecture, scaling the dbt platform across all three cloud providers. Now, we’re focused on automation, self-service, and improving developer velocity through better tooling, processes, and infrastructure design.
As an Staff engineer on our team, you’ll work on medium projects, helping to refine our platform while ensuring performance, reliability, and a great developer experience. You’ll collaborate across teams, solve real infrastructure challenges, and help shape the future of multi-cloud dbt Cloud.
What You'll Do
Design, operate, and support infrastructure systems with parity across tenancy models (single vs multi) and public clouds (AWS, Azure, and GCP) - and work with engineering teams to get their services consistently deployed to those environments
Bring cloud infrastructure expertise to the team, helping us strengthen and scale our infrastructure as we expand dbt Cloud’s multi-cloud capabilities.
Help create a great developer experience while working with our close partners in Architecture, Release Engineering, Product Engineering and Security
Leverage tools and languages such as Terraform, Kubernetes, Python, Bash, Helm, ArgoCD, Go, and DataDog
Design and build automation to eliminate manual toil and streamline infrastructure operations at scale
Identify and implement infrastructure optimizations that reduce cloud spend without sacrificing reliability
Participate in a balanced on-call rotation in an environment that values continuous improvement, and help to upgrade our tooling and reduce toil
Skills We're Looking For
10+ years of Experience with the clouds, tools, and languages in our stack, especially: AWS\Azure\GCP, Terraform, Kubernetes, Python, and Bash
Solid experience with declarative Infrastructure as Code - ideally with Terraform or a willingness to learn while leveraging your CloudFormation or ARM\Bicep background
Love to automate tasks
Worked asynchronously as part of a fully-remote, distributed team - and have excellent communication and writing skills
Prior experience in a multiple cloud environment
More extensive Kubernetes administration and troubleshooting background

About the Role
We're hiring an Engineering Manager to lead the Semantic Layer team in Bengaluru. You'll own the health, delivery, and growth of the team behind MetricFlow — building and coaching a group of engineers, setting technical direction in partnership with your leads, and ensuring one of the most important projects in the modern data stack keeps shipping with quality and momentum.
This is a hands-on leadership role. You'll spend most of your time growing people, running a healthy delivery process, and shaping strategy — but you'll stay close enough to the code and the architecture to make sound technical calls and earn the trust of a senior engineering team. You'll also be the steward of a public, community-facing open-source project, balancing the needs of internal roadmap and external contributors.
About the team
The Semantic Layer team owns the systems that turn dbt models into trusted, reusable business metrics. At the heart of this is
MetricFlow
— the open-source semantic engine that powers the dbt Semantic Layer. MetricFlow lets data teams define metrics once in code and consume them consistently across BI tools, notebooks, AI agents, and downstream applications.
This team is the steward of MetricFlow as an open-source project: shipping releases, reviewing community contributions, evolving the query compiler, and ensuring it integrates cleanly with the broader dbt ecosystem. The team works at the intersection of language design, query compilation, and distributed data execution — solving problems that directly shape how thousands of organizations measure their business.
What you'll do
Lead, coach, and grow a team of software engineers building MetricFlow — hiring, onboarding, career development, performance management, and day-to-day support.
Own delivery for the Semantic Layer team: planning, prioritization, execution, and predictable shipping of high-quality software.
Partner with your senior and staff engineers to set technical direction across metric definitions, query compilation, dimensional modeling, and SQL generation for multiple data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, Redshift, and others).
Steward MetricFlow as an open-source project — set the bar for how the team triages issues, reviews external pull requests, manages releases, and engages the community on GitHub and in Slack.
Collaborate with engineering leaders across the dbt platform, dbt Core, and the Semantic Layer service to ensure MetricFlow integrates seamlessly with the rest of the dbt ecosystem.
Partner with product, design, and developer-relations counterparts to translate customer and community feedback into a clear, well-sequenced roadmap.
Drive engineering excellence in performance, reliability, and observability of metric query execution at scale.
Foster a culture of design docs, thoughtful code review, and durable engineering — shipping fast without shipping sloppy.
Skills we're looking for
Experience managing software engineering teams, including hiring, coaching, and performance management, with a track record of shipping production systems.
A strong engineering foundation — you've built and shipped production software yourself and can engage credibly on architecture and technical tradeoffs with a senior team.
Familiarity with the technical domain: SQL fundamentals, how analytical query engines and data warehouses execute queries, and systems that involve parsing, compilation, or transformation (query planners, DSL compilers, type systems, or rule-based engines).
Solid grasp of software design principles: clean APIs, modularity, testability, and backwards compatibility — and the judgment to hold a team to them.
Excellent written and verbal communication — you can explain complex tradeoffs clearly to engineers, product managers, and external community members.
Experience leading in a distributed, asynchronous team environment.
Nice to have
Experience leading or contributing to a popular open-source project, including managing a community of external contributors.
Familiarity with dbt, MetricFlow, LookML, Cube, or other semantic-layer technologies.
Background in data warehousing internals, query optimization, or analytical SQL dialects.
Experience with CI/CD, GitHub Actions, and release engineering for Python libraries.
Exposure to building developer-facing APIs, SDKs, or CLIs.
Why join us
Impact at scale: Your team's code will run inside the data platforms of tens of thousands of companies, including some of the world's largest enterprises.
Open-source ownership: You'll lead the team behind a foundational open-source project — visible, reviewed, and used by the global data community.
A team that values craft: We invest in design docs, code review, and durable engineering. We ship fast, but we don't ship sloppy.
Competitive compensation: Market-leading salary, equity, comprehensive health insurance, generous time off, learning and wellness stipends, and home-office support.

We’re looking for a
Sr Software Engineer
to join the Platform Ops team (Platform Engineering) and enable developer productivity by building and improving developer tooling and environments, and by improving other productivity tools around observability. Our team builds the shared systems and workflows engineers rely on every day—internal developer environments and self-serve tooling that makes the recommended way to ship changes the easiest way. This is a platform tooling role with a focus is on reusable capabilities and self-service workflows adopted across teams.
You’ll also help develop AI-based workflows for productivity and efficiency, including automation that improves infrastructure operations (for example, faster triage, automated runbook steps, and better self-service for common issues). You’ll prioritize the highest-impact problems by looking at where time is being lost today (slow builds, flaky tests, manual release steps, repetitive operational work) and turning that into concrete projects. You’ll set clear success metrics up front and use them to guide design decisions and rollouts.
Expect to partner closely with engineering teams to drive adoption, document changes, and iterate based on feedback. You’ll drive cross-team work across internal tooling, developer environments, observability, and reliability, focusing on measurable improvements (for example: shorter lead time, fewer incidents, and faster recovery). You’ll add automation and enable developer workflows across all three major cloud environments (AWS, Azure, and GCP).
Over time, you’ll own medium-sized projects end-to-end: identify the highest-friction workflows with partner teams, build and ship improvements, roll them out safely, and iterate based on adoption and measurable outcomes (for example: faster builds, fewer flaky tests, shorter time to debug, and less operational toil). You’ll collaborate closely with Platform Engineering, Release Engineering, Security, and product engineering teams to make improvements that are easy to adopt and maintain.
What You’ll Do
Build internal tools and services in
Python
and/or
Go
Build tooling for our internal developer platform (self-service workflows, shared patterns, developer-facing interfaces)
Add automation and enable developer workflows across all three major cloud environments (AWS, Azure, and GCP)
Develop AI-based workflows that improve developer experience and reduce repetitive manual work, including efficiency gains in infrastructure operations
Improve developer feedback loops through better observability (metrics/logs/traces), making failures easier to diagnose
Automate common engineering workflows (scaffolding, environment setup, releases, operational runbooks)
Improve observability for platform services (metrics, logs, traces) to make issues easier to detect and debug
Integrate tools into existing workflows (CLI, Slack, GitHub, dashboards) where it reduces time-to-resolution
Participate in on-call/incident response as needed and drive follow-up automation to prevent repeat issues
Skills We’re Looking For
Professional software engineering experience in
Python
and/or
Go
Experience building developer productivity tooling (CI systems, build tooling, developer portals, workflow automation)
Experience with at least one cloud provider (
AWS
,
Azure
, or
GCP
)
Strong fundamentals: testing, code review, debugging, and operating production services
Ability to work effectively in a remote, cross-team environment
You'll have an edge if you have:
Kubernetes experience
Infrastructure-as-code (Terraform/OpenTofu), including reusable modules and safe state management
