About the Team
Patreon’s security team works to protect Patreon creators and their fans. The team deals with all facets of Patreon’s security, including application security, infrastructure security, and internal/corporate security. We’re a small but effective team. We write code to solve security problems and work closely with our partners across the engineering organization. We also understand the importance of balancing security risks against business needs. We strive for honest and effective communication and focus on pragmatically reducing risk over checking boxes. The security team is part of Patreon’s Risk Engineering org, which also includes our Safety Engineering and Identity and Access teams. Collectively, the risk org tackles a range of problems including content moderation, internal tooling, identity verification, access control, and account security.
About the Role
In this role, you’ll be a member of our Security team. You’ll split your time between contributing to security projects and responding to security investigations, vulnerabilities, or questions. The work spans application security, infrastructure security, and internal/corporate security. It includes both proactive and reactive security work. You’ll be part of an on-call rotation and help respond to security incidents and investigations. You’ll write code – both to support security work and to improve the security of the Patreon platform. You’ll work closely with other members of the security team, the wider Risk engineering org, and cross functional partners in engineering, legal, and IT. Your work will help reduce known risks and will protect the security, privacy, and trust of Patreon creators and their fans.
What you’ll need:
- You have two or more years of experience reducing security risks in the application, infrastructure, or corporate security spaces. You can create a threat model and to explain why a given risk matters and what we might do to reduce it.
- You have deeper knowledge (three or more years) in at least one security or security-adjacent domain (infrastructure security, application security, cloud security, corporate/IT security, cryptography, privacy, etc.)
- You can develop software (Python, Rust, Golang, or a similar language). You have experience working in a modern software development environment (git, CI/CD, LLM coding tools, etc.)
- You have experience using AI tools (LLMs, ML models, etc) to identify and address security issues (software vulnerabilities, detection and response, etc.)
- You’re energized by fast iteration: shipping MVPs, testing hypotheses, and evolving products based on what creators and fans respond to.
- You take pride in creating elegant solutions to messy, real-world problems and balancing pragmatic trade-offs between security risks and business needs.
- You believe in Patreon’s mission: giving creators control over their work and building communities that feel good to be in.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or the equivalent
Bonus if you have:
- Experience working on large scale Internet platforms that allow users to upload content.
- Past contributions to large scale, production code bases.
- Experience responding to security incidents, investigating incident impact, and building out incident mitigations.
We hire talented and passionate people from different backgrounds because workplace diversity and inclusion is critical to our ability to serve creators worldwide. If you’re excited about a role but your past experience doesn’t match with every bullet point outlined above, we strongly encourage you to apply anyway. If you’re a creator at heart, are energized by our mission, and share our company values, we’d love to hear from you.

If you need a reasonable accommodation during the interview process, please let us know via email at accommodations@patreon.
Patreon offers a competitive benefits package including and not limited to salary, equity plans, healthcare, flexible time off, company holidays and recharge days, commuter benefits, lifestyle stipends, learning and development stipends, patronage, parental leave, and 401k plan with matching.
Patreon operates under a hybrid work model, where employees based in office locations are expected to come into the office three days per week, excluding sick time and paid leave. The goal of this policy is to be intentional about the in-person time we spend together to strengthen the feeling of community at Patreon. Candidates hired into remote-eligible roles are not expected to meet the same requirements.
At Patreon, we believe in fair and transparent pay. In compliance with New York and California pay transparency laws, we are sharing the expected salary range for this role.
The posted salary range is dependent on the location and the level. This range may encompass multiple levels within the role’s job family. The final offer will be based on candidate’s experience, skills, competencies, and geographic location, aligning with the appropriate job level within Patreon’s leveling framework. This is a hands-on technical role. We are looking for someone who understands industrial structural simulation not only conceptually, but through direct experience with simulation models, solver workflows, data generation, validation, and engineering decision-making.
You will work with research, product, and customer-facing teams to ensure that our models are useful against real engineering standards — not only benchmark metrics.
Relevant application areas may include automotive crashworthiness, aerospace structures, consumer-electronics drop/reliability, manufacturing, durability/fatigue, and other nonlinear structural mechanics problems.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Work with our research team to define, generate, and iteratively improve simulation datasets for training and evaluating crashworthiness foundation models, balancing coverage of relevant physical scenarios, simulation fidelity, and computational cost.
- Design and run high-fidelity simulation campaigns using structural mechanics solvers such as Abaqus, LS-DYNA, Ansys Mechanical, Radioss or equivalent tools.
- Define the relevant variation space for training data: geometry, mesh resolution, material behavior, boundary conditions, loading, contact, joints, failure modes, and engineering KPIs.
- Build or guide automated pipelines for simulation setup, execution, post-processing, dataset creation, and model evaluation.
- Work with research teams to train and evaluate AI models on simulation data, and diagnose failure modes caused by data gaps, poor coverage, numerical artifacts, or model limitations.
- Evaluate model outputs against industrial engineering needs, including field-level accuracy, scalar KPIs, deformation modes, load paths, energy absorption, stress/strain fields, failure indicators, uncertainty, and out-of-domain behavior.
- Work with industrial customers to understand their simulation workflows and engineering priorities, define use cases and success criteria, and incorporate their feedback into model development and validation.
ABOUT YOU
- You have deep expertise in crashworthiness, solid mechanics, and structural mechanics, with substantial experience in industrial simulation workflows.
- You have a Master’s degree or equivalent technical depth in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, civil/structural engineering, computational mechanics, applied physics, or a related field.
- You have 4+ years of relevant industrial experience (or PhD +1 years) in domains such as automotive, aerospace, and consumer electronics.
- You have hands-on experience with explicit dynamics for crash or impact simulation and understand nonlinear FEM and related topics such as contact, plasticity, structural dynamics, buckling, material modeling, fracture/damage, fatigue, crashworthiness, or durability.
- You have direct experience with simulation validation, correlation, model quality, numerical sensitivity, and engineering KPI definition.
- You are a strong Python developer who can build and maintain reliable tools for simulation automation, data processing, and model evaluation. You apply sound software engineering practices, including version control with Git, automated testing, code review, and clear documentation.
- You have hands-on experience working in Linux and HPC environments, including submitting and monitoring batch jobs, selecting appropriate compute resources, and troubleshooting simulation workflows. You can run simulation campaigns efficiently across a compute cluster.
- You are comfortable operating in ambiguous technical environments and turning poorly defined industrial problems into scoped datasets, experiments, metrics, and execution plans.
- You communicate clearly with both deep technical experts and non-specialist stakeholders.
IT WOULD BE GREAT IF YOU
- Have experience applying machine learning, surrogate modeling, reduced-order modeling, optimization, or data-driven methods to simulation problems.
- Have contributed to reusable internal tools, open-source code, simulation automation frameworks, or production-quality engineering workflows.
- Have experience working directly with industrial customers, product teams, or engineering decision-makers.
- Have publications, patents, internal technical leadership, or recognized contributions in engineering, simulation, computational mechanics, or ML-for-physics communities.

Who You Are
You're a seasoned project controls professional with 7+ years managing schedule, cost, change, and documentation on large-scale, mission-critical construction programs — ideally in data centers, schedule-driven sector where downtime isn't an option. You read a P6 schedule critically — spotting broken logic, float that's been quietly manipulated, and a critical path that's about to move before it shows up in next week's update. You can pick apart a change order line by line and know a GMP well enough to catch a buyout gap before it becomes a claim.
You're equally comfortable pushing back on a general contractor in a weekly OAC meeting and briefing an executive on cost and schedule risk in five minutes flat. You don't wait to be asked for bad news — you surface it early, with the data to back it up. You build trust with GCs, design consultants, finance, and leadership not by being agreeable, but by being fair, prepared, and unwilling to accept a story that doesn't add up.
You think in systems — cost, schedule, risk, and change aren't separate disciplines to you, they're one integrated view of program health — and you're comfortable operating in an environment where the schedule compresses, the scope shifts, and the stakes don't.
What You'll Do
Manage the third-party scheduling consultants who review, analyze, and maintain the master schedule, setting expectations for quality, cadence, and reporting
Work directly with general contractors to review and validate their schedules — testing logic, durations, critical path, float, and sequencing against owner milestones
Own schedule health reporting to leadership, giving a clear, honest picture of progress, risk, and forecast, and escalating issues before they become delays
Own the change order process end-to-end: intake, review, verification, negotiation, and resolution
Critically evaluate change orders for scope, pricing, and schedule impact — verifying quantities, labor, markups, and backup rather than taking submissions at face value
Negotiate change orders directly with the general contractor to protect Galaxy's cost and schedule position
Represent Galaxy in weekly change and progress meetings with the GC, driving accountability and timely closure of open items
Maintain a complete, auditable change order log reconciled against the project budget and GMP
Serve as the bridge between field/GC reality and Finance's cost picture, ensuring both tell the same story
Own documentation control for active projects — RFIs, submittals, change documentation, meeting records, and contractual correspondence
Establish and improve project controls standards, templates, reporting, and governance across the portfolio
What We're Looking For
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience
7+ years of project controls or construction management experience on large-scale, complex programs; mission-critical or data center experience required
Proven experience managing schedule on the owner's side, including oversight of scheduling consultants and review of GC-maintained schedules
Deep, hands-on command of CPM scheduling and Primavera P6 — enough to interrogate a schedule, not just read one
Demonstrated experience owning the change order process, including verification and direct negotiation with general contractors
Strong working knowledge of construction contracts and GMP structures (AIA A133/A201 or similar)
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents
Excellent negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to hold GCs accountable and brief executives with equal credibility
Ability to manage controls across multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
What You Bring
An owner's mindset — you protect the schedule, the GMP, and the record as if the capital were your own, and you hold contractors and consultants to that same standard.
The credibility to sit across from a general contractor and negotiate change with confidence, and the judgment to know which battles matter.
A sharp, detail-driven eye that catches the number that doesn't hold up, the logic that doesn't sequence, and the risk before it becomes a delay.
The versatility to move fluidly between the field, the GC, Finance, and the executive table, tailoring the message to each without losing the thread.
A bias for order and structure — you bring discipline to controls, documentation, and reporting in a fast-moving, high-growth environment.
Willingness to travel up to 20% to Data Center sites as the work requires.
What We Offer:
Competitive base salary and discretionary bonus
Flexible Time Off (i.e. unlimited paid vacation days)
Company paid Holidays (14)
Company paid sick leave
Company-paid health and protective benefits for employees, partners, and other dependents
3% 401(k) company contribution
Generous paid Parental Leave
Free virtual coaching and counseling sessions through Ginger
Free daily snacks in-office
Smart, entrepreneurial, and fun colleagues
Employee Resource Groups
*Benefits may vary depending on location.
