The ideal candidate is a recent Master of Architecture graduate with strong spatial and visual design skills, a high level of attention to detail, and an interest in applying an architectural design background to retail and experiential environments. You are curious, collaborative, comfortable working through ambiguity, and excited to develop your craft in a fast-paced environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES

- Translate WHOOP brand principles and creative concepts into compelling spatial experiences that balance aesthetics, functionality, product storytelling, and the customer journey.
- Develop architectural and spatial design concepts through sketches, plans, elevations, 3D models, renderings, material studies, and presentations.
- Support space planning and layout development, considering customer flow, product interaction, merchandising, accessibility, and operational requirements.
- Create and maintain design documentation that clearly communicates design intent to internal stakeholders, vendors, fabricators, and other external partners.
- Partner with cross-functional teams across Retail, Brand, Creative, and Operations to understand project requirements and translate business and customer needs into physical design solutions.
- Participate throughout the design process, from early concept development and design iteration through production, installation, and launch.
- Assist in the research and selection of materials, finishes, furniture, fixtures, lighting, signage, and other environmental elements appropriate for WHOOP retail experiences.
- Support prototype development and design reviews, incorporating feedback and helping refine solutions based on feasibility, cost, schedule, and customer experience.
- Collaborate with vendors, fabricators, and external partners to communicate design requirements, review samples and prototypes, and help ensure final executions align with design intent and WHOOP quality standards.
- Help develop and maintain retail design standards, guidelines, templates, and documentation that create a consistent WHOOP experience across different locations and formats.
- Stay informed on trends and innovations across architecture, retail, experiential design, materials, fabrication, and consumer environments, bringing relevant ideas and inspiration back to the team.
- Manage multiple projects and design deliverables simultaneously while maintaining a high level of organization, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Travel up to 10% domestically and internationally to support site visits, installations, retail openings, vendors, and project partners.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Master of Architecture (M.Arch) degree or BArch (Professional) required.
- 0–2 years of professional, internship, or relevant project experience in architecture, retail design, experiential design, environmental design, or a related discipline.
- Portfolio demonstrating strong architectural and design thinking, spatial problem-solving, visual communication, and an ability to translate concepts into compelling physical environments.
- Strong understanding of architectural design fundamentals, including space planning, scale, proportion, circulation, materials, and detailing.
- Proficiency with architectural design and 3D modeling, including Rhino; visualization tools, including KeyShot and Enscape; and presentation tools, including Figma. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop.
- Ability to develop and communicate ideas through sketches, plans, elevations, diagrams, 3D models, renderings, and presentations.
- Strong visual sensibility and understanding of how materials, color, lighting, graphics, product, and architecture work together to create a cohesive physical experience.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to produce accurate, thoughtful, and high-quality design work.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate design ideas and rationale to a variety of audiences.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across creative, operational, and technical teams and incorporate feedback into the design process.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to balance multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
- Self-motivated, curious, and comfortable learning quickly and operating in a fast-paced environment.
- Passion for architecture, retail and experiential design, consumer experiences, and the intersection of physical space, technology, fitness, and wellness.
- Strong commitment to embracing and leveraging AI tools in day-to-day tasks, ensuring AI-assisted work aligns with the same high-quality standards as personal contributions.

About GiveDirectly
What if the most effective way to fight poverty was also the simplest: give people money and trust them to decide what they need?
Since 2011, GiveDirectly has proven that idea at scale. We’ve delivered more than $1B in cash directly to 2+ million people living in poverty and crisis across 15 countries, and rigorous research shows the results: healthier kids, stronger businesses, sturdier homes, and more resilient families and local economies. Cash is now widely recognized as one of the most scalable, cost-effective, and dignified forms of aid.
Our ambition goes beyond our own programs. We want cash to become the benchmark for aid, much as the index fund became the benchmark for investing, so that every aid dollar is held to one question:
is this doing more good than giving the money directly to people living in poverty?
We’re growing fast, and this is a rare and important moment to join.
We expect to hit $1B in revenue in 2026 with significant growth forecast for 2027. At the same time we are building a new technology stack and operating model designed for a roughly 10x change in scale, and we are actively pursuing partnerships with major funders to move even more money in bigger ways, to people who need it. We are known for our extensive integration of technology into field processes; our quantitative approach to performance measurement; and our commitment to rigorous, independent, experimental evaluation of our impact, with multiple Randomized Control Trials completed and others in progress.
How we work
Our team spans 20+ countries and 69 languages. Our culture is candid, analytical, and non-hierarchical. We expect high ownership and give people real responsibility early. Our values are central to how we hire, work, and grow, and they are deliberately opinionated:
Recipients first.
Recipients’ preferences come before those of donors or ourselves.
Team next.
We optimize for organizational success, not individual success.
Be proactively candid.
We say what we believe and share information openly.
Create positive energy.
We aim to be a source of energy for colleagues, not a drain.
Think rigorously; act quickly.
We reason from first principles, then act rather than debate.
Know yourself and grow.
We own our imperfections and seek feedback to grow.
Accept reality. Propose solutions.
We focus on what can change and bring solutions, not just problems.
Be productively ambitious.
We take risks for step-change impact, not incremental progress.
If they describe how you like to work and they energize you, this could be a great fit.

a. Background:

- A proven track record of owning low-latency, reliable backend services, including rate limiting, auth, quotas, metering, and migrations.
- Infrastructure instincts with a feel for performance: profiling, tracing, capacity planning, and SLO management.
- Comfort debugging performance and reliability issues across multiple layers of the stack, from application behavior down to runtime and infrastructure internals.
- A strong sense of developer experience. You think about how systems are used, not just how they work.
- Eagerness to learn new languages, frameworks, and systems, and a real interest in inference engineering. Prior ML or LLM experience isn't required, though experience with model serving or inference systems is a plus.
- Excellent written communication and collaboration skills, including writing clear design docs and working across functions.
NICE TO HAVE

ABOUT BASETEN
Baseten powers mission-critical inference for the world's most dynamic AI companies, like Cursor, Notion, OpenEvidence, Abridge, Clay, Gamma, and Writer. By uniting applied AI research, flexible infrastructure, and seamless developer tooling, we enable companies operating at the frontier of AI to bring cutting-edge models into production. We're growing quickly and recently raised our $1.5B Series F https://www.baseten.co/blog/announcing-our-series-f/, led by Altimeter Capital, Conviction Partners, and Spark Capital. Join us and help build the platform engineers turn to ship AI products.
THE ROLE
We're looking for inference performance engineers who want to make the world's most demanding AI workloads run faster and more efficiently. You'll work across the stack, from the inference engine and runtime through scheduling, serving, and routing. Along the way you'll apply techniques like prefill/decode disaggregation, speculative decoding, and KV-cache management. You'll reason from first principles about where time and memory go, find what's holding performance back, and close the gap. Your work directly impacts how fast our customers' models run and how efficiently we serve them. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced startup environment and is eager to make significant contributions to the exciting field of LLM inference.
EXAMPLE INITIATIVES
You'll get to work on these types of projects as an Inference Performance engineer:
- Agentic Kernels in Production https://www.baseten.co/blog/agentic-kernels-in-production/
- How we built the new fastest API for GLM-5.2 https://www.baseten.co/blog/how-we-built-the-new-fastest-api-for-glm-52/
- Live draft model training for speculative decoding https://www.baseten.co/blog/live-draft-model-training-for-speculative-decoding/#eliminating-traditional-bottlenecks
- Making Kimi K3 Tokenization 18x faster https://www.baseten.co/blog/making-kimi-k3-tokenization-18x-faster-for-million-token-agentic-workloads/

- Driving model performance optimization https://www.baseten.co/blog/driving-model-performance-optimization-2024-highlights/
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Implement and productionize cutting-edge inference techniques, working deep in runtime internals. That includes quantization, speculative decoding, KV-cache reuse, chunked prefill, LoRA, guided generation for structured outputs, and custom scheduling and routing algorithms.
- Profile and optimize inference end to end, from kernel launch overhead and memory layout up to request scheduling, prefill/decode disaggregation, and cache-aware routing. Run cross-layer investigations, such as tracing a tail-latency regression from request timing through routing and batching down to a kernel.
- Turn performance into cost savings. Improve tokens per GPU-hour, raise utilization, and give customers and internal teams clear latency/throughput/cost tradeoffs.
- Bring up and tune new model architectures on new hardware quickly, often in the same week they're released.
- Build benchmarking frameworks that measure real-world performance across model architectures, batch sizes, sequence lengths, and hardware configurations.
- Contribute upstream to open-source inference engines (vLLM, SGLang, TensorRT-LLM), and partner closely with model, infrastructure, and customer-facing teams to ship wins.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field.
- Experience with one or more general-purpose programming languages, such as Python or C++.
- Familiarity with LLM optimization techniques (e.g., quantization, speculative decoding, continuous batching).
- Strong familiarity with ML libraries, especially PyTorch, TensorRT, or TensorRT-LLM.
- Demonstrated interest and experience in LLMs.
- Deep understanding of GPU architecture.
NICE TO HAVE
- Proficiency in enhancing the performance of software systems, particularly in the context of large language models (LLMs)
- Contributed to vLLM, SGLang, TensorRT-LLM, or another inference engine.

- Written or optimized GPU kernels (CUDA, Triton, CUTLASS, or similar)
- Worked on quantization (FP8/FP4, AWQ, GPTQ) or speculative decoding in production.
- Deep understanding of software engineering principles and a proven track record of developing and deploying AI/ML inference solutions.
BENEFITS
- Competitive compensation, including meaningful equity
- (U.S. only) 100% coverage of medical, dental, and vision insurance for employee and dependents
- Flexible PTO policy including company wide Winter Break (our offices are closed from Christmas Eve to New Year's Day!)
- Paid parental leave
- Fertility and family-building stipend through Carrot
- (U.S. only) Company-facilitated 401(k)
- Exposure to a variety of ML startups, offering unparalleled learning and networking opportunities.
