An overview of this role
As the Director of Dedicated Infrastructure Engineering & Platforms, you will lead the engineering organization responsible for GitLab Dedicated, GitLab's premium single-tenant SaaS offering for enterprise customers in regulated industries, and public sector.
You will lead a high-performing organization of managers and engineers who own the entire lifecycle of dedicated and cellular platforms, from orchestration, integrations, resilience, and incident response to switchboard APIs, public sector compliance, and enterprise customer migrations. Your mission is to scale GitLab Dedicated from its current trajectory toward an aggressive growth target, ensuring enterprise customers experience full platform capabilities with dedicated infrastructure, compliance certifications, and enterprise-grade SLAs in an isolated environment.
As a high-impact executive leader, you will define the strategy for single-tenant and public sector SaaS platforms, drive critical infrastructure investments, ensure FedRAMP/compliance operational readiness, and build the switchboard and migration capabilities that allow enterprise customers to seamlessly transition to and scale on Dedicated. You will succeed by cultivating a culture of operational excellence, closing key business and roadmap gaps, and leading distributed engineering teams to deliver high-availability, highly secure platform experiences.
What you'll do
Own the strategy and roadmap for GitLab Dedicated, and ensure the platform scales with customer growth and converges with GitLab's cellular architecture.
Partner with Product and executive leadership to deliver on growth targets, with a focus on platform reliability, faster customer onboarding, infrastructure cost efficiency, and self-service administration.
Lead the engineering teams that build and run the platform: tenant orchestration and integrations, resilience and incident response, the Switchboard control plane, public sector platforms and compliance, and enterprise migrations and import tooling. Uphold enterprise-grade SLAs across every tenant.
Deliver GitLab Dedicated for Government: AWS GovCloud infrastructure, FedRAMP operations and audit readiness, air-gapped isolation, and public sector feature delivery.
Make enterprise migrations to Dedicated predictable, repeatable, and low-disruption through self-service tooling and guided workflows.
Hire, coach, and scale engineering managers across distributed teams, and bring practical AI-enabled workflows into how the organization works.
Partner with Product, Security, and Customer Support to keep customer commitments, architecture, and investments aligned.
What you'll bring
You have led engineering organizations that run enterprise single or multi tenant SaaS infrastructure and cloud platforms at scale.
You have measurably improved production reliability, reduced toil, or lowered infrastructure cost on a platform you owned.
You have deep expertise in cloud-native and cellular architectures, Infrastructure as Code, and modular services that deploy and scale independently across cloud environments.
You have delivered and operated enterprise offerings under strict compliance regimes such as FedRAMP and AWS GovCloud.
You have led organizational changes, including adopting AI enabled workflows that raise engineering system efficiencies.
You translate financial targets into engineering investments, headcount plans, and execution roadmaps.
You lead with ownership, speed with quality, and a focus on customer outcomes.
About the team
The Dedicated Infrastructure & Platforms organization builds and runs GitLab Dedicated, our single-tenant enterprise SaaS offering, for GitLab's most strategic enterprise and public sector accounts. It is organized into five focus areas:
Platform Orchestration & Integrations: orchestration, deployment, and environment automation for Dedicated tenants and cellular environments, plus integrations with external products.
Core Features, Resilience & Response: compliance and operations driven features, disaster recovery, automated failover, rate limiting, and incident response automation.
Switchboard & Control Plane: the APIs, tenant change automation, and operator and customer interfaces that make Dedicated self-service.
Public Sector Platforms & Compliance: AWS GovCloud infrastructure, FedRAMP compliance operations, air-gapped isolation, and Geo replication for GitLab Dedicated for Government.
Enterprise Migrations & Import Tooling: customer migration programs and playbooks, Geo-based migration tooling, Direct Transfer, and self-service guided import workflows.

ABOUT THE ROLE
We're building agents that run real parts of our business, take on real work, and get better based on the results they produce. You'll build them with whatever is most capable right now: our own agents platform, the latest orchestration tools, and frontier models. The hard part is making them reliable, measurable, and safe enough for the business to depend on.
You'll sit in Marketing Engineering and be forward-deployed to our growth pods, where you'll find the problems worth solving and own the solutions end to end. You might be a forward-deployed builder, an applied AI engineer who has taken agents beyond the demo stage, or a full-stack engineer who is curious about growth.
REQUIREMENTS
- Python, SQL, LLM APIs and agent orchestration
- You've shipped production systems that other people relied on, starting from a vague problem
- You've built with LLMs beyond a demo and know how to evaluate them and where they fail
- You measure whether what you built worked
- Bonus: experience with GTM data or marketing systems.

This role is remote-first, so it can be executed from anywhere in Europe, with the ability to operate in GMT and GMT+1 timezones. If you prefer, you can work from our offices in London and Warsaw.

How we’re using AI today

We expect every team member to build at least one AI-powered workflow, and we’re committed to growing together through shared best practices, regular learning sessions, and team resources as we scale and collaborate across 1Password.
This is a remote opportunity within Canada and the US.
What we're looking for:

• Strong analytical, communication, and presentation skills, including the ability to turn data into clear recommendations and concise status updates.
• Experience managing multiple stakeholders and priorities while maintaining accountability from planning through delivery.
• Experience in Software as a Service (SaaS), cybersecurity, technology, product operations, or a similarly fast-moving environment, along with experience using Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools or workflow automation to improve operational efficiency.
What you can expect:
• Build and manage programs that improve service and outcomes for high-priority customer accounts.
• Support company planning, Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs), objective tracking, and other operating rhythms that help leaders make informed decisions.
• Create clear roadmaps, status reports, risk assessments, and recommendations that improve visibility and accelerate decision-making.
• Bring teams together to resolve blockers, align priorities, manage change, and deliver shared outcomes.
• Use modern tools, including AI-assisted analysis and workflow automation, to generate insights, identify risks and dependencies, and scale program execution.

How we work with AI
We are committed to leveraging cutting-edge technology—including AI—to achieve our mission. We also understand that thinking critically about AI in its current forms will help us create better solutions for our customers and ourselves with its future forms, which will help us continue to close the gap between security and privacy and achieve our mission. We want team members at all levels to take the approach of actively learning AI best practices, identifying opportunities to apply AI in meaningful ways, and driving innovative solutions in their daily work. Embracing the future of AI isn't just encouraged—it's an essential part of how we will be successful at 1Password.
This approach extends to our hiring process—candidates are welcome to use AI tools responsibly and thoughtfully during the application process. To us, this means we do ask that you join live interviews without using AI tools so we can get to know how you communicate, solve problems, and collaborate with others.

- Own how we detect, respond to and learn from incidents, including alerting design, the incident process and post-mortems, and our on-call process.
- Build AI-assisted investigation and auto-resolution, from agent-led diagnosis to automated remediation.

IDENTIFY, PRIORITIZE, AND PROVE AUTOMATION OPPORTUNITIES
- Map business processes to uncover high-impact automation opportunities across unfamiliar customer environments.
- Develop and manage an automation roadmap with clear prioritization criteria, sequencing, and ROI logic.
- Build business cases in the customer’s language by estimating impact, modeling value, and connecting automation to executive priorities.
NAVIGATE ORGANIZATIONS AND SCALE WHAT WORKS

- Identify upsell and expansion signals during engagements and hand them cleanly to the Customer Success team.
- Feed learnings from every deployment into n8n’s internal playbooks, product feedback loops, and repeatable deployment motions.
REQUIREMENTS

- 📊 ROI and prioritization: You can build value cases, estimate impact, and help customers prioritize an automation roadmap based on business outcomes.

- 🤝 Organizational navigation: You know how to build trust across levels, manage competing priorities, and identify who can actually make decisions.
- 🎙️ Storytelling: You can make complex technical concepts clear, compelling, and easy for senior stakeholders to champion internally.
