You will partner closely with product and engineering teams to pilot and scale AI solutions, own the operational transformation plan needed to embed AI into day-to-day field workflows, and establish the governance framework that keeps AI adoption safe, compliant, and aligned with company standards. This is a hands-on role for someone who can move from strategy to execution without heavy oversight.
This role reports to the Vice President, Enablement & AI.
What You’ll Do

AI Field Use Cases:
Identify, scope, and execute on high-value AI use cases for the field (e.g., deal support, prospecting, content generation, guided selling, skills, change management), working with stakeholders to define success criteria and measure impact.
AI Field Champions:
build relationships with champions in the field organization to activate power-usage and drive peer-led adoption; track this adoption (e.g., usage, proficiency, behavior change) with our AI Ops Specialist and Enablement Analyst.
Ops Transformation Plan:
Design and drive the operational plan that turns AI pilots into scaled, repeatable processes, coordinating across enablement, ops, and technical teams to remove execution bottlenecks.
AI Governance:
Influence and lead governance standards for AI tool adoption in the field, including data usage, risk review, tool vetting, and alignment with company-wide AI policy.
What You’ll Bring
Mid-Senior Experience:
Several years of experience in enablement, sales operations, or a related GTM function, with a track record of owning initiatives end-to-end.
AI Solutions Experience:
Direct experience evaluating, piloting, or deploying AI tools or solutions in a business context, with a solid technical understanding of how they work and where they add value. Act as the field's primary advocate for AI tools (e.g., AI-assisted prospecting, call intelligence, forecasting copilots, RFP/proposal generation).
Cross-Functional Fluency:
Proven ability to work closely with product and engineering teams, translating field needs into technical requirements and vice versa.
Self-Sufficiency:
Comfortable operating with significant autonomy — able to define scope, structure ambiguous problems, and drive work forward without needing detailed direction.
Organization & Execution:
Strong project management instincts; able to manage multiple workstreams (roadmap, use cases, ops transformation, governance) in parallel without dropping details.
Innovative Mindset:
A builder's orientation toward new technology — curious about what's possible, willing to experiment, and able to separate genuine opportunity from hype.
Enablement/Sales Background:
Familiarity with field or sales enablement motions (onboarding, tool adoption, content, coaching) and how AI can realistically augment them.
GitLab Values Alignment:
Ability to work in an all-remote, asynchronous environment, leaning heavily on transparency and collaboration as defined in the GitLab Handbook.

The Tech Operations Specialist keeps the field organization's AI tooling running smoothly day to day. You will maintain a clear inventory of AI tools in use across the field, manage an index of use cases and field needs, track adoption and utilization, manage access requests, and keep the underlying data feeding these tools clean and well-organized. Maintain an up-to-date inventory of all AI tools used across the field org, identify overlap or redundancy, and support consolidation efforts to reduce tool sprawl.
Tool Adoption & Use Case Index:
Formalize a library of field-adopted and -requested use cases for our AI tools, in coordination with the AI Transformation Owner, CRO.
Utilization & Tracking:
Monitor usage of AI tools across teams, build simple reporting to track adoption trends, and flag underutilized or underperforming tools to stakeholders.
Comms & Enablement:

Process-Minded:
Comfortable following and improving structured processes (intake forms, access workflows, tracking dashboards) rather than needing to build strategy from scratch.
Collaborative:
Able to work with enablement, IT, and field stakeholders to gather requirements and resolve access or data issues efficiently.
Data Comfort:

An overview of this role
As a Lead People Systems Engineer, you'll drive how GitLab's People systems evolve through an AI-first transformation mindset, putting AI to work across everything we build. You won't just support our people systems, you'll build them: owning the code, pipelines, and integrations that keep GitLab's People automation ecosystem running reliably at scale across Workato, Google Cloud, Claude, Workday, and the tools that power our global workforce. This is a strong fit if you think like a software engineer first, write clean and maintainable code, and thrive at the intersection of people systems, AI, innovation, and automation engineering.
In this role, you'll be the technical backbone of our People Technology team, designing, building, and maintaining the automations, agents, and integrations that connect Workday, Greenhouse, Slack, and internal tools. You'll be the go-to technical thought partner for the people group on complex engineering decisions, and your work will compound over time: fewer manual processes, stronger system reliability, and a People technology foundation that scales without friction.
What You’ll Do
Own the design, development, and maintenance of people system automations and integrations across Workato, Google Cloud Platform, Claude, Workday, Greenhouse and GitLab, writing reliable, well-tested code that runs at scale.
Build and maintain integrations between Workday, Greenhouse, Slack, and internal tools using Workday Web Services (WWS) and Slack's API and Bot SDK, diagnosing failures proactively and driving uptime and reliability improvements across the automation stack.
Write, version, and maintain automation code in Ruby (or comparable scripting languages) stored in GitLab, with clear documentation, code reviews, and disciplined change management practices.
Develop and manage Slack apps and bots that deliver intuitive, automated workflows, reducing friction for People teams and employees across a globally distributed workforce.
Move past surface-level requests to diagnose root problems, challenge assumptions, and co-design automation solutions that are durable, scalable, and built to last.
Serve as subject matter expert on Workato automation architecture, driving standardization, reusability, and scalability across the People technology integration layer.
Maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines and deployment practices for People system automation, ensuring changes are tested, reviewed, and safely deployed using GitLab.
Leverage AI tools, large language models (LLMs), and Model Context Protocol (MCP) frameworks, including Claude, to accelerate automation development and identify opportunities to eliminate manual work across the People Group.
Provide technical guidance to teammates and stakeholders, proactively communicating context and decision-making, partnering closely with InfoSec, AI Engineering, and IT, and raising the bar for how automations, agents, and integrations are built, documented, and maintained.
Exercise independent judgment on methods and evaluation criteria to obtain quality results, leading others by sharing solutions and problem-solving approaches.
What You’ll Bring
Hands-on experience writing and maintaining code in Ruby or a comparable scripting language (Python, PHP, etc.), you're comfortable in a codebase, write code others can read and maintain, and are willing to learn Ruby if you haven't already.
Deep expertise in Workato or a comparable enterprise automation/integration platform, with a track record of building reliable, scalable automation workflows in production environments.
Strong experience integrating with Workday using Workday Web Services (WWS), with the instinct to build integrations that are durable, observable, and handle edge cases well.
Experience building Slack apps and automations using Slack's API and Bot SDK, with an eye for delivering workflows that actually get used.
Proficiency with Git and GitLab for version control, code review, and CI/CD workflows, you treat automation code like production software, not scripts on someone's laptop.
Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or AWS; experience with Docker and Kubernetes (GKE is a bonus) for running and maintaining automation services.
Experience connecting HR systems including Workday, Greenhouse, and internal tools, with strong instincts for where integration points break and how to keep them reliable.
Comfort working with AI tools and MCP frameworks to accelerate development, automate repetitive work, and push the boundaries of what people technology can do.
Strong communication skills, you can translate technical architecture into clear decisions and stakeholder updates, and you know when to surface a risk versus just fix it.
An engineering mindset applied to people systems: you treat reliability, observability, and maintainability as first-class concerns, not afterthoughts.
People system fluency, you understand how HR data flows, why it matters, and how to build automations that handle it with care and accuracy.
Intellectual curiosity and a bias for action, you don't wait to be told what's brittle; you find it, frame the fix, and drive it forward.
About the team
The People Technology team is building the systems foundation that allows GitLab to scale as a global, all-remote company. We don't just keep the lights on, we push the bar on what people technology can do, constantly improving reliability, usability, and intelligence across the platforms that power our People organization. We work across core systems, integrations, automation, and compliance, partnering closely with stakeholders across time zones to move fast, build with purpose, and create an experience where technology enables people to do their best work.

How we're different
We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills.
The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.
Come work with us!
Anthropic is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and a lovely office space in which to collaborate with colleagues.

About Anthropic
Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.
About the role
Anthropic's Safeguards team builds the systems that detect and mitigate misuse of our AI models, from individual policy violations to sophisticated, coordinated attacks. A growing part of that work depends on lightweight detection methods trained on model internals, which let us identify harmful behavior cheaply and at scale. This work feeds directly into Anthropic's Responsible Scaling Policy commitments.
We're looking for an engineer to own the infrastructure behind that research. This is the tooling our researchers rely on to run experiments, train detection methods, and select detections for launch. It sits between research and production: researchers depend on it for fast iteration, and our detection systems depend on it for reliable, correct results as our models continue to change.
Running machine learning workloads at our scale often requires solving novel systems problems. You'll identify those problems and build the abstractions, pipelines, and tooling that keep the research loop fast as requirements shift underneath you. Strong candidates will have a track record of solving large-scale systems and data problems and will be excited to grow deep machine learning expertise alongside it.
Key responsibilities
Build and scale the infrastructure and data pipelines behind Safeguards machine learning research
Own the training, evaluation, and scoring workflows researchers use, with a focus on cutting the time between an idea and a result
Design tooling and interfaces, including libraries and command line tools, that researchers can use directly without needing to understand the systems underneath
Build correctness and sanity checking into the stack, so results stay trustworthy as models and workloads evolve
Take the highest-value research workflows from experiments to reliable, production-grade jobs
Improve the throughput, cost, and reliability of large-scale inference and scoring workloads
Partner closely with researchers and engineers across Safeguards to understand their workflows, anticipate how their needs will change, and design for that ahead of time
Minimum qualifications
Strong software engineering fundamentals and hands-on coding ability, with proficiency in Python
Experience building and operating data-intensive or distributed systems in production
Experience building tooling or infrastructure that other engineers or researchers use as a dependency
Comfort working across the research-to-deployment pipeline, from exploratory experiments to production systems
Ability to debug performance and correctness problems across an unfamiliar stack
Strong written and verbal communication skills, and a collaborative approach to technical decisions
Preferred qualifications
Experience with high-performance, large-scale machine learning systems
Familiarity with language modeling and transformers, including working with model internals
Experience with machine learning framework internals, GPU or accelerator programming, or inference optimization
Experience building experiment tracking, caching layers, or evaluation harnesses for research teams
Experience with probes, interpretability, or classifier development
Interest in the misuse risks of AI systems and a desire to work on mitigating them
