About Backblaze
Backblaze is the object storage leader in the open cloud movement, fueling customer success with cloud storage built purposefully to unlock budgets, unburden administrators, and unleash innovators. Together with our partners, we’re helping customers break free from the restrictive, overpriced legacy solutions that hold them back, and blaze forward with the full power of the open cloud in their hands.
Founded in 2007, we scaled the business with less than $3 million in outside funding until 2021, when we did a traditional IPO on the Nasdaq stock exchange. Today, Backblaze generates over $100m in revenue and is the leading specialized storage cloud - managing over three billion gigabytes of data storage for 500K+ customers in 175+ countries, including businesses, developers, IT professionals, and individuals.
Want to know what you’ll be doing?
You will work on our data infrastructure platform which supports the B2 Object Storage and Computer Backup products, responsible for the data infrastructure that everything runs on. You will help improve automation, observability and stability for durability, increase throughput, and drive architectural changes to support the long term requirements of our service.
Responsibilities:
Design and build automation frameworks that let other engineers provision, configure, and repair fleet infrastructure themselves
Design and extend the observability stack (metrics, logs, traces, alerts) that tells us whether the storage platform is healthy and where it is degrading
Build reporting, dashboards, and visualizations that give engineering and leadership a clear view into fleet health, capacity, and operational trends
Build system health tooling that detects failing hardware, drifting configuration, and capacity risk before they turn into incidents
Lead technical design discussions and produce clear design documents for changes that span multiple services and teams
Drive the implementation of large features from design through rollout, including the migration and backfill work that real systems require
Partner with the on-call rotation to turn recurring toil and incident findings into automation and better signal
The Right Fit:
7+ years of backend development in an enterprise environment, working in an object-oriented or systems language (Java, Rust, C++, C#, Go, or similar)
Experience designing automation frameworks or platforms that other engineers build on
Experience building large scale software systems running on thousands of servers
Experience building automation or tooling that other engineers depend on daily, whether internal platform services, operational tooling, or a deployment and configuration pipeline
Working knowledge of an observability stack (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, ELK, Datadog, or equivalent), including instrumenting a service and designing alerts people trust
Strong Linux fundamentals and comfort operating in a bare-metal or hybrid environment rather than a fully managed cloud
Professional experience incorporating AI-assisted development tools (Gemini, Cursor, Claude Code, or similar)
Comfortable with all aspects of the software development lifecycle, including design, implementation, testing, and rollout
Exhibits curiosity and seeks to understand before offering solutions
Communicates proactively in a remote environment by keeping the team informed, surfacing blockers early, and moving work forward
Applies analytical thinking to ambiguous problems
Bonus points for:
Proficiency in Java
Experience with configuration management or infrastructure-as-code tooling (Ansible, Salt, Puppet, Chef, Terraform)
Experience designing SLOs and error budgets, or reducing alert noise on a fleet running at scale
Experience with time-series databases and query languages such as PromQL
Experience automating hardware lifecycle work: burn-in, failure detection, drive replacement, decommissioning
Experience with discovering and implementing performance improvements, including CPU and IO
Understanding of Linux internals and file systems
Familiarity with hard drive performance and optimization, including host-managed SMR
Experience building and interpreting models, dashboards, or reports

- External counsel is used strategically, with stronger internal capability and better cost control.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
Essential
- Substantial international employment experience and proven experience supporting labour and employment in a global organisation, advising across multiple jurisdictions and operating effectively across regions and time zones.
- Experience in New Zealand, Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom is highly desirable.

- Experience directing others’ work without direct reports, and influencing without formal authority.
- A track record of advising senior PX/HR leaders and business executives as a strategic partner.
- Strong judgement, commercial awareness and the ability to explain complex issues in plain language.
- Experience managing external employment counsel and building scalable legal processes and resources.

About Huzzle Labs
Huzzle Labs partners with frontier AI labs to evaluate and improve frontier models through deep human expertise. Contributors directly assess advanced AI systems in their specialist fields, receive competitive compensation, and help define the standards used to measure model performance.
About the Role
Huzzle Labs is seeking experienced accountants to write realistic accounting tasks that test how well frontier AI systems handle accounting work. You will create prompts that are difficult enough for a frontier model to fail, then write a scoring rubric for each task so reviewers can assess the output consistently. A rubric is a list of objective, checkable criteria that a reviewer marks pass or fail. Your judgement helps define the standards used to measure model performance.
This is an expert judgement role focused on realistic task design, careful review of model output and precise, consistent documentation. Training is provided. Prior AI training or data-annotation experience is required.
Responsibilities
Write realistic accounting tasks: Create requests of the kind a client, controller or business owner would send, covering month-end close, bank and credit card reconciliations, AR/AP ageing, accruals and adjusting entries, sales tax, job costing and the clean-up of incomplete or inconsistent books.
Build from real material: Review a deal room containing hundreds of files, select the relevant documents and use them to develop prompts and rubrics for tasks a frontier model struggles to complete correctly.
Require usable deliverables: Each request should call for a working output, usually a spreadsheet, a journal entry schedule or a short memo.
Test against a frontier model: Run each request and review the output with the care you would apply when signing off accounting work. Where the model succeeds, increase the difficulty until a genuine gap appears.
Write scoring rubrics: Define objective criteria that another reviewer can apply without repeating your work, for example, “the reconciled ending balance equals $X” and “the $X deposit is recorded as a customer deposit liability, not revenue.”
Apply guidelines consistently: Follow the task and rubric guidelines, flag ambiguous cases and help refine the criteria.
Requirements
At least 5 years in accounting, bookkeeping or finance operations.
Prior AI training or data-annotation experience is required.
Hands-on knowledge of month-end close, reconciliations, AR/AP, accruals and adjusting entries, sales tax and job costing.
Excellent written English and precision with numbers.
Careful and detail-oriented: accurate figures and objective, checkable criteria.
Available 20 to 40 hours per week for an initial one-week trial, with potential extension.
Example Assignment
For a client deal room covering a small business with incomplete and inconsistent books, you would:
Review the files and select the relevant documents, such as bank statements, ledgers, invoices and ageing reports.
Write a prompt as the business owner or controller would, asking for a reconciliation and the adjusting entries needed to close the month.
Run the prompt against a frontier AI model and check the spreadsheet or journal entry schedule line by line.
If the model completes the task correctly, increase the difficulty, for example, by adding a customer deposit, a timing difference or a sales tax complication, until it fails.
Write the rubric, such as “the reconciled ending balance equals $X” and “the $X deposit is recorded as a customer deposit liability, not revenue,” so another reviewer can grade any answer without repeating the work.
Confidentiality
An NDA must be signed before the engagement begins.

Location: Denver; Los Angeles
THE ROLE
We're hiring our first Regional Vice President for the Southwest. The territory runs from the Rockies (Colorado and Utah) through Arizona and the desert Southwest to Southern California. It covers some of the fastest-growing tech corridors in the country, plus a dense base of digital-native, media, gaming, and AI companies that already run on real-time data. You'll report to Mike Hayes and build the region from the first hire: set the strategy, recruit the team, and turn a widely spread, high-potential territory into one of the strongest regions in the Americas. This is a builder's seat with a clear path to grow with the business.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Design a multi-hub region. Build a coverage model across hubs that are very different from one another, including Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego, Denver/Boulder, Salt Lake City/Lehi, and Phoenix. Decide where to place reps first and how to sequence growth.
- Hire the founding team. Recruit Enterprise AEs who can sell to engineering buyers as peers: technical, commercially hungry, and able to work on their own across a large geography.
- Own the number and the forecast. Carry the regional quota, run a weekly operating rhythm, and deliver a forecast your leadership can rely on, backed by MEDDPICC-style deal qualification.
- Win where real-time data is the product. Land and expand with digital-native and AI-native companies, media and entertainment, gaming, adtech, consumer internet, and fintech, where performance and cost at scale decide the deal.
- Turn adoption into enterprise agreements. Work with our product-led growth motion to find ClickHouse Cloud and open-source users ready for a committed relationship, then expand across teams and use cases (analytics, observability, and AI workloads).
- Lead from inside the deal. Coach reps through technical evaluations, POCs, procurement, and executive negotiations. Join the calls that matter.
- Orchestrate the extended team. Partner closely with Solutions Architects, Marketing, Partners/Alliances, and cloud marketplace teams to build pipeline and run cohesive account strategies.
- Build ClickHouse's brand across the region. Show up in the local developer, data, and startup communities, from Denver and Salt Lake to LA and San Diego, through events, meetups, and executive programs.
WHAT YOU BRING
- 10+ years of enterprise software sales in data infrastructure, databases, analytics, observability, or cloud, with a strong record as a quota-carrying seller.
- 5+ years leading enterprise sales teams as a first- or second-line leader, with attainment you can back up with specifics.
- Experience building or rebuilding a region from an early stage, ideally one spread across several metros, where you set coverage, hired the first reps, and grew the business.
- A strong network across the Rockies, the Southwest, and/or Southern California, both for hiring standout AEs and for reaching enterprise buyers.
- Rigorous pipeline management, deal qualification (MEDDPICC or similar), and forecast accuracy.
- Technical credibility with engineering-led buyers. You understand the modern data stack and can hold your own in architecture conversations.
- Experience with consumption-based pricing, open-source, or product-led growth models.
- The ClickHouse DNA: integrity, hunger, and accountability. You're curious, serious about the craft, and want to build rather than inherit.
NICE TO HAVE
- Experience selling to digital-native, AI-native, media/entertainment, or gaming companies.
- A background in real-time analytics, OLAP and columnar databases, observability, or AI/LLM infrastructure.
- Experience as an early leader at a high-growth data or infrastructure company through a period of fast scaling.
- Co-selling with AWS, GCP, or Azure, and transacting through cloud marketplaces.
- Experience leading a distributed team across several states and time zones.
PERKS
- Flexible work environment - ClickHouse is a globally distributed company and remote-friendly. We currently operate in over 25 countries.
- Healthcare - Employer contributions towards your healthcare.
- Equity in the company - Every new team member who joins our company receives stock options.
- Time off - Flexible time off in the US, generous entitlement in other countries.
