At WHOOP, we're on a mission to unlock human performance and healthspan. WHOOP empowers members to perform at a higher level and live longer through a deeper understanding of their bodies and daily lives.
We are seeking an Associate Director, Core Algorithms (Cloud) to lead the teams responsible for WHOOP's cloud-based algorithmic intelligence — the models and systems that transform physiological data into the sleep, recovery, and training insights our members rely on daily. This role is also responsible for ensuring our cloud algorithms evolve alongside WHOOP hardware, partnering with Sensor Intelligence and Hardware teams to translate new sensor capabilities into production-grade algorithmic experiences.
You will own the technical vision, execution, and organizational health of this team. You'll drive the evolution of our core production algorithms such as workout detection, strain, and sleep staging toward higher accuracy, better member experiences, and more mature development practices. You will partner closely with ML Platform, Sensor Intelligence, Research, Product, and Software Engineering to define what WHOOP algorithms can enable — not just how they perform technically, but how they show up for members.
This is a role for someone who has built and shipped physiological ML at scale in a consumer product, who has a deep product instinct for what algorithms mean to end users, and who knows how to elevate an ML organization's practices: raising the bar on tooling, processes, and standards to match the ambition of the work.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the cloud ML team responsible for the algorithms powering sleep, recovery, and training
- Directly manage applied ML scientists and ML engineers; provide coaching, career development, and performance feedback that grows individual contributors into strong technical leaders
- Ensure the technical quality bar for algorithm development is maintained by establishing the processes, reviews, and standards that guarantee rigor from research through deployment, and diving into designs and architectural decisions where necessary
- Help drive the vision for what WHOOP algorithms and next-generation sensors can enable; advocate for member experience and push the boundaries of what our data makes possible
- Ensure cloud algorithms remain compatible with future hardware generations; partner with Sensor Intelligence and Hardware to evolve proof-of-concept algorithms that leverage new sensor capabilities and bring them to production readiness
- Establish and improve development lifecycle practices: experiment management, model validation, deployment pipelines, and production monitoring

- 4+ years of people leadership experience directly managing machine learning scientists/engineers, with demonstrated growth of team members and a track record of building high-performing teams
- Experience scaling a production ML organization: growing teams and leaders, identifying gaps in the development lifecycle, and driving improvements that increase velocity, reliability, and rigor
- Deep product sense: ability to think about algorithms from the member's perspective, drive the vision for what algorithms can enable, and ensure the team is building toward meaningful user outcomes
- Ability to evaluate technical designs, guide architectural decisions, and ensure quality at the system level, without needing to write code day-to-day
- Experience defining and driving cross-functional programs with engineering, product, and science partners
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex ML concepts to diverse audiences including product, engineering, and executive stakeholders
PREFERRED
- Experience building algorithms using physiological or wearable sensor data (e.g., PPG, accelerometer, temperature, bioimpedance)
- Experience managing through hardware-coupled development timelines where sensor availability and device generations constrain algorithm roadmaps
- Familiarity with time-series modeling, sequential data, and the specific challenges of continuous physiological monitoring
This role is based in the WHOOP office located in Boston, MA. The successful candidate must be prepared to relocate if necessary to work out of the Boston, MA office.
Interested in the role, but don’t meet every qualification? We encourage you to still apply! At WHOOP, we believe there is much more to a candidate than what is written on paper, and we value character as much as experience. As we continue to build a diverse and inclusive environment, we encourage anyone who is interested in this role to apply.

An overview of this role
This role is not a typical infrastructure operations role. As Manager, Engineering, Git & Gitaly Operations, you'll lead the team responsible for the infrastructure layer underneath Git at GitLab: the open source Git project itself, Gitaly, GitLab's Git storage and remote procedure call layer, and the services that make Git perform at enterprise scale.
Git and Gitaly are core to GitLab. If they go sideways in production, they affect everything downstream, including continuous integration, code review, and deployments. This role starts with genuine subject matter expertise in Git technologies and extends to reliable operation across GitLab's deployment models: Self-Managed, GitLab Dedicated, and SaaS.
You'll build and develop a team with deep platform expertise and strong operational judgment. You'll partner across engineering groups to shape how Git and Gitaly operations evolve as the platform grows.
What you’ll do
Build and lead a team with deep platform expertise in Git and Gitaly, hiring and developing engineers who can operate this infrastructure layer with strong operational judgment.
Own production reliability for Git and Gitaly across GitLab's full deployment footprint.
Drive incident management, root cause investigation, and postmortems with the technical depth to distinguish a Git internals problem from a generic infrastructure problem.
Design and operate Git and Gitaly service models that work across Self-Managed, GitLab Dedicated, and SaaS, with a clear view of which elements are common and which must differ between them.
Maintain cloud-agnostic architecture and tooling decisions, avoiding designs that assume a single hyperscaler's primitives.
Partner with the teams that own each deployment model so operational practices stay coherent rather than fragmenting into separate playbooks.
Apply distributed systems fundamentals, including consistency, replication, and failure domains, to Gitaly's storage and replication model.
Own elastic storage and compute strategy for Git repository data, including capacity planning, autoscaling, and consumption-based provisioning for GitLab's largest self-managed and SaaS customers.
What you’ll bring
Familiarity with GitLab's product and deployment models, and how Git and Gitaly support repository operations across self-managed, dedicated, and SaaS environments.
Hands-on subject matter expertise in Git internals, including how the protocol, object model, and storage layer behave under load and at scale, not only familiarity with Git usage.
Strong distributed systems fundamentals, including consistency, replication, failure handling, and horizontal scalability.
Experience running production infrastructure across multiple deployment models, such as self-managed, dedicated or single-tenant, and multi-tenant SaaS, or a credible path from adjacent experience to it.
Experience with elastic storage and compute, and consumption-based system design for variable, unpredictable load.
People management experience, ideally leading site reliability engineering-style or platform operations teams.
Direct experience with Gitaly, libgit2, JGit, or another Git implementation's internals is advantageous.
Experience operating cloud-agnostic infrastructure across multiple hyperscalers or on-premises environments is advantageous.
About the team
The Git & Gitaly Operations team owns the Git infrastructure layer that powers GitLab and works at the intersection of Git internals, distributed systems, storage, and production operations.
We expect the Git & Gitaly Operations team to go deep on one of GitLab's most critical platforms. The work requires technical depth, strong operational discipline, and the ability to solve complex reliability and scaling challenges in Git and Gitaly.

About the role
As an Enterprise Account Executive based in Seoul, you'll drive adoption of safe, frontier AI technology across Korea's financial services industry — banks, insurers, asset managers, and fintech companies. Preferred qualifications
8+ years of enterprise sales experience in Korea, with significant exposure to financial services
A genuine understanding of how Korean financial institutions make technology decisions, including the role of regulators, internal risk/compliance functions, and IT governance
Direct experience navigating Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) requirements and review processes — this is required given how heavily FSS oversight shapes technology adoption in Korean FSI
A track record of managing complex, multi-stakeholder sales cycles typical of FSI, including rigorous security and compliance review
Proven experience exceeding revenue targets within financial services accounts
Excellent communication skills in both Korean and English
A passion for AI built and deployed safely

We do sponsor visas! However, we aren't able to successfully sponsor visas for every role and every candidate. But if we make you an offer, we will make every reasonable effort to get you a visa, and we retain an immigration lawyer to help with this.
We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification.
Not all strong candidates will meet every single qualification as listed. Research shows that people who identify as being from underrepresented groups are more prone to experiencing imposter syndrome and doubting the strength of their candidacy, so we urge you not to exclude yourself prematurely and to submit an application if you're interested in this work. How we're different
We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills.
The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.
Come work with us!
Anthropic is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and a lovely office space in which to collaborate with colleagues.
