About us
Aave Labs began with a simple question: how do we make financial services like borrowing, saving, and earning more accessible globally?
We built the Aave Protocol, now the world’s largest and most trusted onchain lending market, connecting decentralized finance with individuals, traditional finance, and fintech.
Today, we build trusted, high-quality products that expand access to lending, credit, and savings globally
Our culture
We build trusted products that help people access and discover economic opportunities.
We hold a high bar for quality and craftsmanship. No detail is too small. Trust depends on it.
We’re a global team building products people can actually use, turning complex technology into something simple and reliable.
We stay aligned, move quickly, and think long term, while keeping teams lean and focused on impact.
About the role
We’re looking for a Head of Risk to lead the Risk team and own Aave Labs’ risk-governance framework across its contributions to the Aave Protocol and its products. You’ll coordinate with external risk service providers, set and monitor risk parameters, and provide final internal Risk sign-off on collateral onboarding, material protocol-risk recommendations, and product or strategy launches and material changes. This is a leadership role that requires deep protocol knowledge, strong accountability, and the judgment to make high-stakes decisions.
You’ll lead the Risk team and work closely with embedded quantitative, product and engineering specialists, as well as external risk providers to ensure Aave’s risk posture remains best-in-class as the protocol scales into new markets and asset classes. If you understand market structure, portfolio risk management, and the Aave Protocol at a deep level, and you’re ready to take ownership of risk at scale, this role is designed for you.
How you can make an impact:
Lead and build the Risk team, setting direction, priorities, and standards for the function
Own and evolve Aave’s risk management frameworks and policies
Set minimum review standards and provide independent challenge for product-specific risk frameworks
Establish model-risk and data-governance standards for material quantitative models and external risk inputs, including validation, versioning and monitoring
Review whether product and engineering controls adequately implement approved risk requirements, with explicit ownership of gaps, exceptions and incident response
Establish standards for external risk providers and data dependencies, including methodology, independence, conflicts, data quality, performance and fallback arrangements
Own the governance, approval thresholds and escalation process for protocol-risk parameters; oversee monitoring and review material change recommendations
Approve and sign off on collateral onboarding decisions and risk assessments
Review liquidation performance and recommend improvements to liquidation mechanisms
Lead risk governance processes and present risk analyses to the DAO
Monitor market structure changes and their implications for protocol risk
Take accountability for the quality, independence and timeliness of Risk’s assessments, ensuring residual risks, decision owners and escalation paths are explicit and drive a culture of ownership within the team
Let’s connect if you have:
5+ years of experience in risk management, with a strong preference for DeFi or crypto-native experience
Proven experience leading and managing a risk team
Deep understanding of the Aave Protocol: its markets, governance, parameters, and risk dynamics
Strong grasp of market structure, portfolio risk management, and stress testing methodologies
Experience governing risk for composable DeFi products or pooled strategies, including external protocol, liquidity, oracle, counterparty, execution and operational dependencies
Experience working with or managing external risk service providers
Strong sense of accountability and ownership. You take responsibility for outcomes and hold your team to the same standard
Excellent judgment under uncertainty. You’re comfortable making consequential decisions with imperfect information
Strong communication skills for governance proposals, risk reports, and stakeholder alignment
Nice to haves:
Previous experience working directly with DeFi governance processes
Background in traditional finance risk management (portfolio, credit, or market risk)
Familiarity with risk tooling and simulation platforms used in DeFi
Haven’t quite met all the criteria? Let’s not miss out on the chance to speak. Whilst you might not meet every single requirement, you might bring other, more exciting skills to the companies!
Equal opportunities statement:
Aave Labs celebrates diversity and views each and every team member as a separate individual with their own unique identity. No matter your race, religion, gender, ethnicity, age, disability, sexual orientation or even the wallet you use, we welcome you at Aave Labs. Here at Humanoid, we believe in a future where robots amplify human potential. That’s why we’ve set out on a mission to build the world’s most capable, commercially-scalable, and safe humanoid robots. We’re bringing that mission to life with HMND‑01 - our rapidly developed humanoid platform being deployed in real industrial environments - and we’re growing the team to take it even further.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a Teleoperation Control Engineer to help build the systems that let human operators safely, confidently, and precisely control advanced robots. This role sits at the intersection of robot control, real-time software, operator UX, hardware integration, and human-in-the-loop workflows.
You will develop the core teleoperation capability that enables operators to guide, recover, teach, and improve robot behavior in real time. That includes intuitive control mappings, reliable command pipelines, clear operator feedback, high-quality data capture, and safeguards for safe use around real hardware.
We are open to strong candidates from junior through staff level. The key traits are hands-on robotics ability, strong engineering judgment, care for software quality, and a product-minded instinct for making complex robot systems intuitive for operators.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Develop teleoperation capabilities for controlling robots across manipulation, mobility, and loco-manipulation tasks.
- Design intuitive operator experiences, including input mappings, visualizations, feedback loops, recovery flows, and workflows that reduce cognitive load and improve operator confidence.
- Integrate input devices such as VR controllers, gloves, haptic devices, motion capture systems, and custom operator stations into the robot software stack.
- Translate noisy, high-frequency human input into smooth, stable, physically feasible robot commands with predictable behavior.
- Build robust teleoperation infrastructure for real-time data streaming, calibration, replay, debugging, logging, operator training, and high-quality demonstration capture.
- Develop shared-autonomy and assistive-control features that blend human intent with robot capability to improve precision, safety, and ease of use.
- Create safe operating boundaries, limiters, alerts, emergency/recovery flows, and clear state feedback so robot operators can use teleoperation safely.
- Define and improve quality metrics for teleoperation systems, including latency, reliability, observability, operator success rate, demonstration quality, and failure modes.
- Stress-test teleoperation systems on real hardware and in simulation, then drive reliability improvements based on operator feedback and observed failures.
- Work closely with controls, manipulation, hardware, and operations teams to ensure teleoperation requirements shape robot design and field workflows.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Strong robotics fundamentals, including kinematics, coordinate frames, control interfaces, state estimation basics, and real-time system behavior.
- Experience building a subset of the following: teleoperation systems, operator UIs, shared-autonomy tools, human-robot interfaces, or robot learning data-collection pipelines.
- Ability to write reliable software in C++ and/or Python, with experience in ROS/ROS2, real-time data streaming, or robotic middleware.
- Good intuition for human-in-the-loop systems: how operators perceive robot state, issue commands, recover from errors, and build trust.
- A quality mindset: clean abstractions, testing, logging, observability, performance tuning, and tools that remain usable under pressure.
- Strong debugging skills across the stack, from operator input devices to robot motion, sensors, networking, and hardware behavior.
- Comfort iterating quickly on real robots, learning from operator feedback, and turning prototypes into robust capabilities.
- Clear communication and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
Nice to have:
- Hands-on experience building or debugging software for real robotic hardware, ideally in manipulation, mobile manipulation, humanoids, or dexterous systems.
- Experience designing safe workflows for hardware-facing systems where latency, instability, poor feedback, or misuse can create operational risk.
- Experience collecting high-quality demonstrations for imitation learning, behavior cloning, or other robot learning workflows.
- Exposure to intent inference, haptics, force feedback, motion capture, VR/AR interfaces, or custom control devices.
- A product-minded approach to robotics: caring not only that the robot moves, but that control is intuitive, safe, reliable, and pleasant for operators to use.
WHAT WE OFFER
- Competitive equity: stock options with meaningful upside as we scale.
- 30+ days time off, including 23 days annual leave, all UK bank holidays, and additional company closure days (including Christmas–New Year shutdown).
- Private healthcare, including virtual and in-person care.
- Pension scheme with 8% total contribution (5% employee, 3% employer) on full earnings.
- Free daily breakfast, catered lunch, and snacks in-office.
- Work at the frontier - collaborate daily with world-class engineers, researchers, and product experts building the next generation of AI and humanoid robotics.
- Real ownership - direct access to founding leadership, meaningful input on product direction, and the ability to drive key initiatives from day one.

Additionally, you will help in the identification and prioritisation of future project initiatives based on risk, and execute on cross-functional projects with a high degree of ownership and excellence, all while actively mentoring other team members and elevating the collective team’s capabilities and skill sets through peering and informal training.
How you’ll make an impact

Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including development and IT, to integrate security best practices within architectural frameworks.
Lead security awareness initiatives, educating technical teams on advanced security topics and secure coding practices.
Stay informed on emerging security threats and technologies, continuously evaluating and integrating relevant tools or methodologies.
Provide guidance for risk management processes, helping to establish and maintain effective risk identification and mitigation protocols.
Develop and document security processes and procedures, ensuring consistency and readiness for both routine and high-stress security incidents.
Support leadership with reporting by providing insights and data on incidents, vulnerabilities, project progress, and metrics to inform security decisions.
