ABOUT US:
AI NEEDS A NEW INFRASTRUCTURE LAYER. WE'RE BUILDING IT AT MODAL.
Every era of computing brought new workloads that previous infrastructure couldn't support: mainframes, databases, and the cloud. Each time, the company that rebuilt the layer underneath defined the decade. AI is no different, except it touches everything instead of one slice, and the window to build the layer underneath it is open right now.
Our customers include category-defining companies like Ramp https://modal.com/blog/how-ramp-built-a-full-context-background-coding-agent-on-modal, Cognition, DoorDash, and Suno. They rely on Modal for instant GPU access, sub-second container starts, and native storage, so it's simple to serve low-latency inference, fine-tune models, and access production-ready sandboxes at scale.
We've passed $1B in annualized run rate, up 15x from a year ago. In October 2026 we raised a $750M Series D led by Accel at a $15.75B valuation.
Our team includes creators of popular open-source projects (e.g.,Seaborn https://github.com/mwaskom/seaborn,Luigi https://github.com/spotify/luigi), academic researchers, international olympiad medalists, and experienced engineering and product leaders with decades of experience.
THE ROLE:

We're looking for a leader to own the direction and execution of this platform to continue to establish us as the clear market leader, working closely with customers like Cognition, Doordash, Ramp, and many more. You'll be leading a group of highly talented engineers working on our market-leading LLM inference offering, spanning the serving stack, routing infrastructure, internal agentic optimization platform, and the user-facing product surface area.
This is a hands-on leadership role — expect to split your time between technical contribution, product shaping and people management depending on what the team needs. You'll set direction, remove blockers, and build a strong engineering culture as your team tackles hard problems in distributed computing, frontier inference serving, and performance optimization.
WHAT YOU'LL WORK ON:
Team
- Recruit, hire, and grow a high-performing team of engineers; run regular 1:1s focused on coaching, feedback, and career growth

ABOUT MOTHERDUCK
Don’t let the quirky name fool you: At MotherDuck, we’re on a mission to make data warehousing fun, frictionless, and ducking awesome for developers and data practitioners building blazing fast internal and customer-facing analytics experiences. We're building a cloud-hosted version of DuckDB, working hand-in-hand with the creators of the fastest-growing and fastest-improving query engine on the planet. Unlike other databases, MotherDuck was architected to unify local development with cloud operations to bridge the gap between software and data engineering workflows. Our team is a mix of thoughtful, passionate, and empathetic data industry veterans.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
The Database team is the bridge between DuckDB and the cloud. We own the core server and client extension logic that lets DuckDB run seamlessly, whether it's local or in the cloud, and we work in C++ right alongside the DuckDB codebase itself. Our mission is to push the boundaries of embedded database performance, distributed execution, and user experience, all while staying closely connected to DuckDB Labs (the team behind DuckDB) to align on APIs and shape what's next.
Day to day, we drive major projects in dual execution, resource assignment, and system reliability, while also handling incoming issues and lending our DuckDB expertise to other teams. We collaborate closely across MotherDuck and with the wider DuckDB community, making sure people get the best of both local and cloud worlds. It's a small, high-agency team with big ambitions... the kind of place where engineers own impactful projects, share what they learn, and help shape how modern analytics gets built.
This role is ideally based in Amsterdam or Berlin, but we are also open to great candidates remotely in Europe.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own major projects in our dual execution stack, so DuckDB can process queries seamlessly whether they're running locally or in the cloud.
- Help build a cloud platform that dynamically assigns resources, so DuckDB stays efficient whether someone's running a tiny workload or pushing our biggest, highest-memory instances.
- Lead cross-functional work with our frontend, platform, and infrastructure teams to keep the user experience coherent end to end.
- Push the state of the art in embedded database performance, distributed execution, and DuckDB internals.
- Deepen your DuckDB expertise and share it with the rest of the company through mentorship and documentation.
- Work directly with our support team to debug issues, learn from real usage patterns, and prioritize the improvements that matter most.
- Improve systems holistically... spotting architectural challenges early and clearing bottlenecks before they become problems.
- Mentor teammates and help raise the bar for engineering practices across the team.
- Work closely with DuckDB Labs (which grew out of the Database Architectures group at CWI, where vectorized execution and DuckDB were born) to help align on APIs and shape where DuckDB goes next.
WHAT YOU BRING
- You've built and shipped complex backend systems, and you know what great looks like.
- You're fluent in a backend language like C++, Rust, Java, or similar systems languages, and you're comfortable working close to the metal. (C++ and Rust are the biggest plus here, and we love a great Java engineer too.)
- A good foundation in query engines, execution plans, indexing, and performance optimization techniques.
- Hands-on experience with DuckDB is a huge plus, no matter what level you're coming in at.
- You've worked with cloud infrastructure, networking, and building low-latency distributed systems.
- You can scope and lead projects that span multiple collaborators and cross-functional dependencies.
- You take pride in clear thinking, careful design, and thoughtful tradeoffs.
- You're comfortable mentoring peers and helping build a collaborative, high-agency environment.
- You enjoy engaging with the wider community, whether that's open-source conversations or working directly with DuckDB Labs.
WHAT WE PROVIDE
- The opportunity to participate and contribute to DuckDB, one of most popular modern open source analytical databases.
- Competitive salary and stock options so you have a stake in our flock’s success.
- Flexible time off – take the time you need to recharge, explore, or just have a lazy day by the pond.
- A good pension plan
- Legendary company events – we bring the whole flock together once a year for unforgettable summits in fun locations, plus 1-2 team gatherings a year to keep our bonds strong.
- Hybrid work environment – Spend three days a week in the office collaborating with the flock, and work from wherever you’re most productive the rest of the time—whether that’s your home office, a coffee shop, or a peaceful lakeside retreat. We have to warn you though, most of us like the office so much we come anyway. It’s on the river Ij, with a great lunch every day.
PLEASE APPLY
Does this role sound appealing to you, but you’re missing some of the requirements or don’t quite think you’re qualified? Please apply anyway. Research has shown that underrepresented groups in technology often shy away from roles which aren’t a 100% match. We aim to build a diverse team and will strongly consider applicants who bring many of the requirements plus have other experiences which round out their qualifications.
MotherDuck is proud to be an Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action employer. We do not discriminate based on race, religion, color, national origin, gender (including pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions), sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, status as a protected veteran, status as an individual with a disability, or other applicable legally protected characteristics. MotherDuck is committed to working with and providing reasonable accommodations to applicants with physical and mental disabilities.

What You’ll Be Doing
Lead global finance operations. Accounting and reporting, month end close, financial controls, regulatory reporting, local audit, and regulatory reporting all sit under you. You'll lead a team of 30+ professionals across 15 countries and be accountable for the quality, timeliness, and defensibility of everything that comes out of it.
Partner with the regional C-suite on what's next. Business strategy, exchange listings, infrastructure investment, and M&A — you'll be in the room, and you'll be the one putting numbers behind the options. Capital planning and investor relations sit with you, as do external partnerships that carry a financial dimension.
Price the decisions before they're made. New products, new markets, new licenses. Each one gets a financial evaluation from your team — unit economics, capital requirements, tax and regulatory cost, downside cases. Leadership should be able to trust that analysis without re-running it.
Tighten controls and risk frameworks across crypto and fiat. This is the part most finance leaders haven't done before. Internal controls, SOX readiness, audit, and global regulatory obligations have to work across digital-asset custody and movement as well as conventional banking flows. You'll build the frameworks that hold up in both worlds.
Own external relationships. Regulators, banking partners, payment providers. These relationships determine what the business can and can't do in a given market, and they need a senior finance voice who regulators and bank credit committees take seriously.
Standardize the plumbing. Global finance policies, a single reporting architecture, consistent close and consolidation processes.
Sit on leadership committees at both the global and local entity level, including boards and governance bodies where a licensed entity requires it.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regional financial regulations and cryptocurrency market developments.
What We Look For In You
Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field
Deep technical foundation in IFRS and US GAAP. CPA, ACCA, CA or equivalent certifcation
15+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, preferably in a cryptocurrency exchange, fintech, or financial services company.
Strong understanding of cryptocurrency markets, blockchain technology, and digital asset accounting.
Expertise in financial regulations of various global jurisdictions (e.g., NYDFS, MAS, VARA, MiCA, FCA).
Proven experience with financial systems (e.g., Oracle NetSuite) and automation tools.
Strong analytical, strategic, and leadership skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
Excellent communication skills and ability to operate in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Experience managing multi-currency operations and intercompany transactions.
Ability to lead and develop teams in multiple jurisdictions and work across different time zones.
Nice to Have Have

Your Purpose
At Bitso, the Software Engineer on the Nexus Squad owns the reliability, scalability, and evolution of our mission-critical pay-in and pay-out systems, the financial backbone that moves billions of dollars worldwide.
You will design and deliver event-driven, high-throughput solutions that ensure every pay-in and pay-out is fast, accurate, and resilient.
Working closely with product, infrastructure, and compliance stakeholders, you will shape the technical direction of a domain where the bar for quality is exceptionally high, resilience is built through continuous learning, and every millisecond of performance matters — for the millions of retail users and the businesses that rely on Bitso to power their financial operations.
Reports To
This role reports to the Nexus Engineering Manager.
Who You Are
You are experienced in Java backend development, with a proven track record of shipping production systems at scale.
You are familiar with event-driven architecture patterns (event sourcing, CQRS, sagas) and have hands-on experience operating Apache Kafka in high-throughput, real-money environments.
You have designed and implemented distributed, fault-tolerant microservices that handle financial or similarly critical transactional data.
You have solid experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred), including schema design, migrations, and query optimization.
You are comfortable with cloud-native infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or equivalent), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and CI/CD pipelines.
You communicate complex technical concepts clearly in English, written and spoken, to engineering peers, product managers, and senior leadership.
You work with a high degree of autonomy and ownership — you identify problems, propose solutions, and see them through to production.
You are familiar with AI-assisted development flow and tools (Cursor, Claude, CodeRabbit).
You have a strong sense of urgency and are comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-stakes fintech environment.
Financial Domain (nice to have):
Familiarity with payment rails, reconciliation or idempotent transaction processing in financial systems is a strong plus.
What You Will Do
Own pay-in and pay-out systems: design, build, and maintain the core infrastructure that processes financial transactions and moves billions of dollars worldwide.
Architect event-driven solutions: design Kafka-based pipelines and workflows that guarantee correctness, ordering, and resilience at scale.
Drive technical decisions: lead architecture discussions, define and use patterns, and set standards for the pay-in and pay-out domain in collaboration with the Nexus team.
Deliver high-quality code: write clean, well-tested, high-performance Java code and champion engineering best practices through code reviews.
Embrace AI-assisted development: leverage tools like Cursor, Claude, and CodeRabbit as part of your everyday workflow, contribute to skills and guardrails development, and apply Spec-Driven Development (SDD) practices to ensure solutions are well-defined, reviewable, and aligned before implementation begins.
Ensure system reliability: proactively monitor, debug, and resolve production incidents with a focus on root-cause analysis and lasting fixes.
Collaborate cross-functionally: partner with Product, Compliance, and Finance stakeholders to translate complex business requirements into sound technical solutions.
Mentor and uplift: share knowledge with fellow engineers, contribute to internal tech talks, and foster a culture of continuous improvement within the squad.
Improve observability: instrument services with comprehensive metrics, logs, and traces to enable rapid diagnosis and confident deployments.
Research
in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion suggests that individuals may hesitate to apply for jobs if they do not meet all the listed criteria. At Bitso, we value diversity and your unique strengths could be just what we're looking for. About Xenon7
Where elite tech talent meets world-class opportunities! At Xenon7, we work with leading enterprise clients and innovative startups on high-impact projects across Data, AI, Cloud, and Software Engineering. Our expertise in AI solution architecture and specialized technical talent allows us to partner with enterprise leaders on transformative initiatives, driving innovation and business growth.
Job Summary
We are seeking a high-caliber
Forward Deployment Engineer (FDE)
to sit at the intersection of enterprise AI platforms and executive Finance business functions for our Fortune 100 enterprise client. This role bridges advanced AI platform engineering with direct business impact—translating ambiguous financial challenges into working AI applications, deploying them into regulated client environments, and iterating in tight loops to drive measurable ROI.
Rather than building static models or waiting for formal spec sheets, you will operate as a product-minded technical lead. You will prototype user-facing tools in days, deploy agentic and RAG workflows on top of enterprise data stacks (Databricks Genie), and ensure high adoption across FP&A, Controllership, Treasury, and CFO leadership.
Key Responsibilities
End-to-End AI Application Prototyping & Delivery
Own the full lifecycle of AI solutions for Finance business units—from initial discovery with CFO stakeholders to production deployment, user adoption, and ROI measurement.
Rapidly prototype vertical applications using Streamlit, Databricks Apps, FastAPI/Flask, or lightweight React interfaces within 1–2 weeks to gather real user feedback.
Handle "last mile" execution: edge cases, data quirks, business rule exceptions, and user training to turn prototypes into sticky enterprise products.
Agentic Systems & LLM Engineering
Build production-grade vertical AI tools leveraging Databricks Genie (Genie Spaces, semantic models).
Construct robust RAG pipelines incorporating advanced chunking, vector databases (Pinecone, Chroma, FAISS, Azure AI Search, Cortex Search), retrieval evaluation, grounding, and citation.
Implement LLM orchestration frameworks (LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex) and apply rigorous prompt engineering with hallucination and accuracy evaluation discipline.
Enterprise Data & Regulated Integration
Deploy applications inside heavily regulated enterprise environments, adhering strictly to RBAC, data residency, audit, and compliance constraints (SOX, GxP).
Connect solutions to governed datasets, semantic models, and core enterprise platforms (SAP, Workday, Coupa, ERP) via secure REST APIs.
Instrument all deployed apps with usage metrics, telemetry, and business outcome tracking from day one.
Strategic Stakeholder Advisory & Pattern Extraction
Work directly with senior Finance leadership (CFO office, FP&A, Controllership) to translate ambiguous operational friction into crisp technical roadmaps.
Extract reusable code components, prompt templates, evaluation harnesses, and retrieval patterns into shared enterprise assets for broader deployment.
Requirements
Experience & Mindset
Experience:
5+ years of hands-on software development and full-stack AI application deployment.
Product-Shaped Builder:
Strong bias for action; comfortable shipping rough prototypes in Week 1 over polished spec documents in Week 4.
Ambiguity Tolerance:
Proven ability to navigate vague business problems without predefined specifications.
Stakeholder Communication:
Outstanding ability to interface directly with senior business leaders without requiring intermediary Business Analysts.
Must-Have Technical Stack
Languages & Frameworks:
Python, FastAPI/Flask, SQL, and UI frameworks (Streamlit, Databricks Apps, React).
AI Platforms:
Direct hands-on experience with
Databricks Genie
.
LLM Engineering:
Production experience with LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex, vector search engines, and prompt evaluation harnesses.
Cloud & DevOps:
Deep working knowledge of Cloud platforms (Azure preferred, AWS/GCP acceptable), modern Git workflows, CI/CD, and basic MLOps awareness (observability, versioning via LangSmith, Datadog, etc.).
Domain Competency (Finance Focus)
Solid foundational understanding of core Finance business processes (FP&A, order-to-cash, procure-to-pay, record-to-report, close cycles) and common financial metrics (OPEX, EBITDA, gross margin, working capital).
Nice-to-Haves & Certifications
Prior FDE, Solutions Engineer, or Field Engineer experience at high-growth AI/Data companies (Palantir, Databricks, OpenAI, Anthropic).
Industry background in Life Sciences, Pharma, Healthcare, or CPG enterprise Finance.
Experience with enterprise Finance software (SAP S/4HANA, Veeva, Workday Adaptive, Oracle Financials).
Certifications: Databricks Certified, or Azure AI Engineer Associate (AI-102).
What This Role Is NOT
Not a pure Data Scientist or ML Researcher:
You will not be training or fine-tuning foundation models from scratch; you are applying existing models to business problems.
Not a non-coding Architect:
This is a 100% hands-on builder role.
Not a pure Backend or MLOps Engineer:
You must be comfortable owning the user-facing interface and direct business interaction.
