Replit is the agentic software creation platform that enables anyone to build applications using natural language. With millions of users worldwide, Replit is democratizing software development by removing traditional barriers to application creation.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Replit enables people to build software with AI. The systems underneath that experience must support safe production changes, measurable reliability, and predictable performance as usage grows.
This Engineering Manager will lead SRE across observability, incident management, load testing, performance engineering, cloud cost and capacity, and rollout infrastructure. You'll lead and grow an existing team that builds and operates production platforms and works hands-on across application and infrastructure boundaries.
This is a software-building leadership role, not simply an incident-management function. You'll help teams ship safely, understand production behavior, and remove performance bottlenecks through concrete engineering improvements. You should be comfortable going deep on a rollout failure or performance investigation while developing technical leaders and sustainable ownership across a distributed team.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Observability. Build and operate metrics, logs, traces, and alerting capabilities. Help teams establish meaningful SLOs and use production telemetry to diagnose problems and verify improvements.
- Incident Management. Own incident tooling and practices, coordinate cross-team response, and turn incident reviews into engineering improvements that reduce recovery time and repeat failures.
- Load Testing. Build and maintain load/failure testing capabilities. Validate critical paths under expected demand, quantify headroom, and test recovery and production readiness with service owners.
- Performance Engineering. Lead deep engagements with internal teams on SLOs and end-to-end performance. Use profiling, telemetry, and load tests to identify bottlenecks and deliver improvements with service owners—not just recommendations.
- Stay technically engaged. Review designs and production changes, debug difficult failure modes, and use AI coding tools—including Replit—to prototype and automate. Apply rigorous review and verification to AI-generated changes.
- Build and grow a high-ownership engineering team. Coach engineers, develop technical leaders, manage performance, and hire against agreed needs. Make distributed collaboration, mentoring, and backup coverage deliberate rather than relying on a few permanent escalation points.
- Measure outcomes and close the loop. Track rollout safety, recovery time, repeat incidents, critical-path latency/throughput, test coverage, and improvements arising from cost/capacity analysis. Agree success measures and continuing ownership with partner teams.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
- Demonstrated engineering management. You have led and developed engineers, made prioritization and performance decisions, hired thoughtfully, and delivered through a team—not only acted as its strongest individual contributor.
- Software-oriented production systems depth. You have built and operated distributed systems or reliability platforms and can reason across deployment behavior, Kubernetes, telemetry, service dependencies, and recovery mechanisms.
- Safe-change and performance judgment. You have led consequential migrations or incidents and used measurement to diagnose reliability or performance problems. You can distinguish symptoms from causes and validate fixes under realistic conditions.
- Platform-product and cross-team judgment. You can build capabilities other teams adopt, lead hands-on engagements without absorbing every service's operations, and make clear tradeoffs among reliability, performance, engineering effort, and cost.
NICE TO HAVE
- Experience with GitOps or progressive-delivery platforms such as Harness, ArgoCD, or Kargo.
- Experience with observability, profiling, load-testing, and failure-testing systems, including OpenTelemetry or comparable tooling.
- Experience with cloud cost attribution, capacity planning, and provider coordination, particularly on GCP.
- Experience growing distributed teams and using AI tools to increase engineering output while preserving production safeguards.

BUILDING THE FUTURE OF OPEN FINANCE
Payward - the parent company behind Kraken, NinjaTrader, Breakout, xStocks, Payward Services and CF Benchmarks - has spent the last 15 years building one of the most modern and globally accessible financial infrastructure platforms in the industry, built to advance an open, global financial system.
THE TEAM
Founded in 2011, Kraken is one of the world's longest-standing crypto platforms, trusted by over 10 million individuals and institutions across the globe. It offers spot trading, margin, futures, staking, and OTC services, with products built for both individual investors and institutional clients.
Kraken's engineers build a lot of software. Developer Platform AI builds the AI systems they use to do it: agents that write and review code, simple access to the best models in the tools they already use, and the infrastructure that connects AI to our internal systems.
This is a small team with a lot of reach. The tools you ship will change how engineers across Kraken work every day, and you'll see that happen directly. The work spans agent platforms, code review, LLM routing and cost controls, MCP integrations with tools like Slack, Jira and GitLab, and the security and observability that make all of it safe to run.
If you want to work on applied AI with real users from day one, this is that job.
THE OPPORTUNITY
- LLM traffic doesn't behave like normal API traffic. Requests are long-running, streaming and expensive. One prompt can cost a few cents or a few dollars. One team's burst can burn another team's budget. Providers change their rate limits, failure modes and pricing without warning. Running this well is a problem few companies have solved, and it's the job.
- Own the reliability of the platform engineers depend on: the AI Gateway, the agent runtime and the connections to internal tools. Set the SLOs, own the error budgets and decide what happens when they're spent.
- Design resilience across model providers: routing, failover, retries, rate limiting and graceful degradation when a provider is slow, throttling or down.
- Make LLM traffic legible. Build observability that shows latency, errors, token usage and cost by team, model and use case, so engineers can see what their workloads cost and where they're spending their time waiting.
- Treat capacity and cost as one problem. Routing decisions affect both latency and spend, and you'll own the tradeoff directly.
- Work with Security, Finance and AI governance to put access controls, budgets, audit logging and data handling into the platform, not into a spreadsheet next to it.
- Lead incident response and blameless post-incident reviews. Turn what breaks into fixes that stay fixed.
- Automate operations with infrastructure as code, safe deployments and progressive rollouts, so the platform gets more reliable as it grows rather than more fragile.
- Mentor engineers and raise the operating standard across the team.
This is a Staff role. You'll set the technical direction for how the platform runs, not just keep it running. The platform is small enough that your decisions shape it directly, and used broadly enough that they affect every engineering team at Kraken.
SKILLS YOU SHOULD HODL
- Extensive experience in site reliability, infrastructure or platform engineering, with a track record of owning high-traffic, business-critical services in production
- Deep hands-on experience with Kubernetes, a major cloud provider and infrastructure as code such as Terraform
- Strong command of SLOs, observability and incident management, and the judgment to know which reliability work actually matters
- Proficiency in Rust or Python, and comfort reading and changing a production service's code
- Experience with API gateways, reverse proxies or traffic management: load balancing, rate limiting, failover and caching
- Experience operating multi-tenant internal platforms, including authentication, authorization and per-tenant cost controls
- Staff-level influence: you set direction across teams, write clear design documents and bring other engineers with you
NICE TO HAVES
- Experience operating LLM gateways or integrating LLM provider APIs at scale: streaming, token-based rate limiting, model routing and caching
- Experience serving models yourself, including vLLM or Ray: GPU scheduling, batching, autoscaling and cost per token
- Experience building Kubernetes controllers or operators with controller-runtime or kubebuilder
- Experience with Consul and Vault for service discovery, configuration and secrets
- Experience with model evaluation pipelines for catching quality regressions before and after rollout
- Familiarity with coding agents and agent harnesses, and running them safely in sandboxed environments
- Experience with cost attribution, budgeting or FinOps for usage-based services
- Background in security-sensitive or regulated environments such as financial services or crypto
- Contributions to open-source gateway, proxy or observability projects
Unless a specific application deadline is stated in the job posting, applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.
Please note, applicants are permitted to redact or remove information on their resume that identifies age, date of birth, or dates of attendance at or graduation from an educational institution.
We consider qualified applicants with criminal histories for employment on our team, assessing candidates in a manner consistent with the requirements of the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance.
OUR COMMITMENT
Payward is powered by people from around the world and we celebrate the diverse talents, backgrounds, contributions, and unique perspectives that everyone brings to the table. We hire based on merit, seeking out people with the right abilities, knowledge, and skills for the job. We encourage you to apply for roles where you don't fully meet the listed requirements, especially if you're passionate or knowledgeable about crypto.
We may ask candidates to complete job-related skills or work-style assessments as part of our hiring process. These assessments evaluate competencies relevant to the role and are applied consistently across candidates for similar positions. Results are considered alongside experience and interviews, and are not the sole basis for any employment decision.

About the Role
The Site Reliability Engineering team at iCapital is fundamental to ensuring our platform delivers consistent, reliable service to our client base. Our services run on Kubernetes in AWS, and this role focuses on keeping them healthy in production.
We're looking for the hands-on engineer others turn to when production is broken and the cause isn't obvious. You'll troubleshoot across the full stack (the application, its containers, Kubernetes, and the underlying cloud infrastructure) and turn what you learn into lasting improvements: stronger reliability standards, safer rollouts, sharper alerts, and automation that prevents repeat failures. You'll rely on metrics, logs, and traces every day, but the heart of this role is diagnosing and fixing what they reveal.
Responsibilities
Act as a senior escalation point for complex production issues in Kubernetes-based services, leading hands-on investigation across application, container, Kubernetes, and AWS layers through to root cause.
Partner with the teams that own our cluster infrastructure to resolve platform-level issues, and feed what you learn back into reliability standards and improvements.
Define and implement reliability and operability standards for Kubernetes-based services, including resource sizing, health checks, scaling patterns, rollout safety, and baseline monitoring, as part of service onboarding.
Serve as Incident Commander or senior technical lead for high-severity incidents, lead postmortems, and drive systemic improvements through action items and measurable follow-through.
Turn recurring investigations into runbooks, diagnostic tooling, and automated remediation that shorten time to resolution and eliminate toil.
Coach engineers in systematic troubleshooting and Kubernetes best practices through reviews, game days, and knowledge sharing.
Define, implement, and iterate service level objectives (SLOs) and service level indicators (SLIs) that reflect customer and business expectations.
Standardize monitoring and alerting through “monitors as code” (Terraform preferred), including quality gates such as severity, ownership, and runbook links.
Operate and tune OpenTelemetry pipelines, including sanitizing data, managing cardinality, and enriching telemetry with consistent fields.
Maintain the infrastructure behind our monitoring stack, including Helm charts, ArgoCD ApplicationSets, Kinesis streams, Lambda functions, and Prometheus.
Participate in on-call rotations with a focus on improving reliability, reducing alert noise, and increasing signal quality over time.
What You'll Need (Must-Haves)
5+ years in SRE or related roles, with evidence of technical seniority across multiple services and teams.
3+ years of hands-on experience running and troubleshooting production workloads on Kubernetes, with a deep understanding of how Kubernetes schedules, connects, scales, and rolls out workloads.
Proven ability to independently diagnose complex failures in distributed systems running on Kubernetes, spanning application, configuration, resource, networking, and scaling issues, including cases where the root cause wasn't obvious.
Strong Linux and networking fundamentals, with the ability to troubleshoot below the container layer.
Strong production experience with AWS, including how cloud networking and access controls affect workloads running in Kubernetes.
Strong incident response skills, including leading retrospectives/postmortems and following through on systemic fixes.
Strong IaC skills (Terraform preferred), with examples of reusable modules, monitors-as-code patterns, or similar standardization work, and the coding ability to build automation and diagnostic tooling.
Track record of defining SLOs/SLIs and using an observability stack (such as Prometheus/Grafana, New Relic, Splunk, or similar) to drive decisions and find root causes quickly.
Clear written and verbal communication, with the ability to influence engineering teams through standards, tooling, and practical guidance.
Nice to Have
Kubernetes certification (CKA or CKS) or equivalent depth.
Experience improving rollout safety and autoscaling behavior for Kubernetes workloads.
Familiarity with common data stores (Postgres, MongoDB, DynamoDB) and how they fail in distributed systems.
OpenTelemetry instrumentation experience at scale.
We believe the best ideas and innovation happen when we are together. Employees in this role will work in the office four days, with the flexibility to work remotely one day (Friday).
Benefits
iCapital offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes a total compensation program consisting of competitive salary, annual performance bonus, and equity for all full-time employees; healthcare with 100% employer-paid health and dental insurance; and generous paid time off (PTO).

Perplexity serves hundreds of millions of queries a month. Every answer, every Perplexity Computer task, and every enterprise deployment runs on production infrastructure owned by the Cloud Infrastructure team: a fleet of Kubernetes clusters across a multi-account AWS estate, private networks that reach hyperscalers and the neoclouds serving our models, and the storage underneath our user data and agentic workloads. We're looking for SREs who treat reliability as a software problem. You'll own compute, networking, and storage at scale and keep production stable while everything built on top of it is changing fast.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own production at scale. Run the compute, networking, and storage foundation behind Perplexity's consumer, Computer, API, and enterprise products, and own its availability, latency, and cost.
- Run our Kubernetes fleet. Operate and upgrade the EKS clusters that host web services, search, datastores, and secure sandboxes. Tune scheduling, autoscaling, node lifecycle, DNS, and service networking so clusters stay healthy under bursty, fast-growing load.
- Engineer the network. Design and operate VPC architectures, Transit Gateway and PrivateLink connectivity, load balancing, DNS, and egress across accounts, regions, and cloud providers.
- Keep data durable and fast. Own the storage layer (EBS, S3, DynamoDB, and the managed databases and caches our services depend on), including performance, durability, backups, and restores that have actually been tested.
- Manage everything as code. Run infrastructure through Terraform and CI/CD. Build reusable modules and guardrails, and make every change reviewable, repeatable, and safe to roll back.
- Prepare for failures. Define SLOs, build alerts that someone can act on, design for zone and regional failure, and run game days and disaster-recovery exercises that prove recovery works.
- Lead incident response. Be on the critical path when things break. Drive incidents to resolution, write blameless postmortems, and land the fixes so the same failure never pages anyone twice.
- Scale ahead of demand. Own capacity planning, quotas, reservations, and cost efficiency so product launches and traffic spikes never wait on infrastructure.
- Automate away the toil. Build tooling, increasingly agent-driven, that turns provisioning, upgrades, and remediation into self-serve, hands-off workflows for every engineering team.
QUALIFICATIONS
We expect you to have real depth in most of these:
- Deep AWS expertise. You know VPC, IAM, EC2, EKS, ELB, Route 53, S3, EBS, etc. well past the console, including their limits, failure modes, and the bill that comes with them.
- Production Kubernetes at scale: cluster upgrades, CNI, CoreDNS, autoscalers like Karpenter, and debugging a misbehaving node at 3 a.m. Writing Helm charts alone doesn't count.
- Terraform mastery. You've designed module structures, managed state across many accounts, and run large refactors and imports without taking production down.
- Strong networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, TLS, load balancing, routing).
- You write real code in Python, Go, or Rust for automation, tooling, and controllers, and you'd rather automate a runbook than follow it.
- Fluency with observability tools like Datadog, Prometheus, or Grafana, and the judgment to turn metrics, logs, and traces into SLOs and alerts that matter.
- A track record of leading production incidents and turning root-cause analysis into durable fixes.
- You own problems end-to-end and do well when the path forward isn't laid out for you.
ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE WE VALUE
- Multi-region active-active or failover architectures, and disaster-recovery programs with real recovery targets.
- Proxies, service meshes, and kernel-level networking: Envoy, Istio, Cilium, or eBPF.
- GitOps and progressive delivery: Argo CD, Flux, or similar.
- Enterprise and compliance environments: single-tenant or BYOC deployments, KMS/BYOK, SOC 2 or similar controls.
- Running stateful systems in production: Postgres, Redis, or search engines like Vespa or Elasticsearch.
- Multi-cloud or neocloud operations (GCP, CoreWeave, or similar).
- FinOps: cost attribution, Savings Plans and reservations, and making infrastructure cheaper without making it fragile.
