WordPress VIP
is the world’s leading enterprise content management platform. We help the world's largest companies (including Meta, Salesforce, and Disney) create innovative digital experiences with WordPress. As one of the fastest-growing areas of Automattic, with recent FedRAMP certification, WordPress VIP (WPVIP) is expanding its reach into the public sector.
About the role:
Your style is to listen and learn from prospects, positioning WordPress VIP as the best Content Management System for public sector organizations. You don’t sit and wait for leads to come to you. Instead, you research the market, identify opportunities within specific government agencies and public sector verticals, and design a sales strategy that is both high-touch and creative, thereby helping to create the best possible positioning to develop new business for WordPress VIP.
You view government agencies and public sector organizations as critical parts of society, and you can see how WordPress VIP and Automattic can help them along their journeys. You pride yourself in establishing long-term relationships and doing what’s best for the customer. You enjoy telling stories, doing demos, giving “the pitch,” and are comfortable talking to CIOs, CTOs, and other high-level government officials.
Our Public Sector team is small and agile, requiring team members to be highly hands-on and versatile. You’ll work closely with SDRs and have full leverage of our Marketing teams to create compelling outreach and content, but you’ll also be generating your own leads alongside that. You should be ready to dive deep into the details, including writing and understanding complex paperwork and RFPs.
Responsibilities:
Drive significant revenue growth by securing new public sector clients and expanding existing government accounts.
Establish and nurture strategic relationships with high-level government officials that position our company as a critical technology partner.
Successfully manage both transactional deals and large multimillion-dollar opportunities within the constraints of government procurement processes.
Develop strategies to increase visibility and create opportunities within the public sector market.
Maintain accurate sales forecasts and pipeline information, and drive strategic improvement of forecasting processes in the public sector market.
Develop and execute innovative, public sector-specific sales strategies that accelerate market penetration in government agencies.
Actively engage in pipeline generation activities, including regular outbound prospecting to government organizations.
Enhance the product offering by providing valuable customer insights to inform our solution roadmap.
Elevate WordPress VIP’s brand and reputation in the government enterprise SaaS space through high-impact engagements.
Contribute to a high-performing sales culture by sharing best practices and mentoring team members.
Prepare and review complex government paperwork, including RFPs, ensuring compliance and competitiveness.
Requirements:
7+ years of enterprise software sales experience, preferably in SaaS or CMS-related technologies.
5+ years of SaaS sales experience selling to State and Local Government agencies.
Demonstrated ability to consistently meet or exceed sales quotas.
Strong understanding of SaaS and enterprise software and IT landscapes. Content management systems experience is a plus.
Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
Proven experience in solutions-based selling and closing enterprise-level deals with government agencies.
Ability to establish and maintain long-term customer relationships.
Experience in managing and growing business within named accounts and verticals.
Comfortable working with executive-level government prospects, negotiating terms, and reviewing contracts within public sector constraints.
Extensive knowledge of government procurement processes, contract vehicles, and compliance requirements.
Proven ability to identify and leverage appropriate procurement vehicles to create substantial market opportunities.
Proficiency in writing, understanding, and responding to complex government paperwork and RFPs.
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage complex, lengthy sales cycles typical in government procurement.
Self-motivated with a drive to achieve revenue and growth targets, both individually and as part of the company.

We are an extremely product focussed team. We work in partnership with Product and Design functions of teams we support. Our team's dedicated Engineers enable us to move to production fast, often shipping to beta in weeks after a successful offline test.
We are very passionate about applying machine learning technology, and have productized everything from classic supervised models, to cutting-edge unsupervised clustering algorithms, to novel applications of transformer neural networks. We test and measure the real customer impact of each model we deploy.
If you are an experienced product engineer who takes an analytical approach to development and has some hands-on experience with ML systems, we'd love to hear from you!
What will I be doing?
Product Engineers in the AI Group
Build the systems that power Fin's flagship AI products. This usually means working in our ML Python tech stack, but at times also means working across the product on our Rails app too.
Work alongside our ML Scientists bring proof-of-concept code to production; ensuring it’s robust and scalable for real-world use.
Partner with product teams outside of our group, to shape the best AI-powered product experience for our customers..
Contribute to all phases of software development including ideation, prototyping, and implementation and testing.
Play an active role in the hiring, mentoring, and career development of other engineers.
Raise the bar for technical standards, performance, reliability, and operational excellence within the group and across Fin.
Profile we’re looking for
These are meant to be indicative, not hard requirements.
5+ years of experience shipping high-quality products.
No ML experience required. We believe you can be highly effective immediately by bringing excellent software engineering skills, and learn ML as you work on the team.
You can demonstrate significant impact in the work that you have done.
You take pride in having strong technical fundamentals; you love learning and are willing to work hard to invest in your development.
Deep knowledge of a high-level programming language (for example, Ruby, Python, Javascript etc.) but it doesn’t need to be a language that we use here!
Strong willingness to fight for good outcomes
Bias towards progress over perfection
BSc in Computer Science, Maths or Statistics or related discipline
Bonus skills & attributes
Previous experience in data analytics, or statistical role

Develop and execute innovative, vertical-specific sales strategies that accelerate market penetration.
Actively engage in pipeline generation activities, including regular outbound prospecting.
Enhance the product offering by providing valuable customer insights to inform the VIP roadmap.
Elevate WordPress VIP's brand and reputation in the enterprise CMS space through high-impact engagements.

Ability to establish and maintain long-term customer relationships.
Experience in managing and growing business within named accounts and verticals.
Comfortable working with executive-level prospects, negotiating terms, and reviewing contracts.
Self-motivated with a drive to achieve revenue and growth targets, both individually and as part of the company.
This role requires you to have a deep understanding of the technology and platforms that we run, and be able to communicate effectively with different stakeholders such as engineers and content creators. Moderate travel is required as well.

WordPress doesn’t try to keep its users inside walled gardens, a rare thing in a world that is dangerously moving away from the open web. Instead, WordPress gives them the freedom to build a business website, an online store, or a personal blog – the way they like it. Big sites or small, using the community-run
open source project
or Automattic’s
WordPress.com
, vanilla or customized with hundreds of plugins, WordPress users always get to own and control their data, their expression, and their freedom.
We’re always looking for talented and experienced engineers worldwide, excited to help Automattic’s product ecosystem, and join our mission to make the web a better place.
What have we worked on recently?
AI is at the heart of many

WooCommerce

We welcome collaboration, and you can be involved in any discussion across our many communication channels.
We encourage you to learn and develop and we support you with what you need – covering expenses, easy internal mobility, coaching.
Enough about us, let‘s talk more about you. Working at Automattic might be a good fit if:
You care and often obsess over the quality and the details of your work.
Debugging any problem is a fun challenge and not a chore.
Understanding the layers of abstraction below and above your work isn't something extra, but how you operate.
You have production experience with several programming languages, frameworks, and paradigms. We mostly use PHP and JavaScript at Automattic, we expect you to be comfortable with the idea of becoming an expert in these languages, even if being one isn't a requirement to apply.
In your mind abstraction is associated as much with cost as it is with value.
You have experience working at scale – it can be on the backend and performance side, or via the complexity of interacting with a multi-million diverse userbase.
Are open and able to travel 3-4 weeks per year to meet up with your teammates in person.
These are exciting times at Automattic and you’ll have a unique opportunity to shape the future of our products. Join us! We look forward to hearing from you.
