BUILDING THE FUTURE OF OPEN FINANCE
Payward - the parent company behind Kraken, NinjaTrader, Breakout, xStocks, Payward Services and CF Benchmarks - has spent the last 15 years building one of the most modern and globally accessible financial infrastructure platforms in the industry, built to advance an open, global financial system.
THE TEAM
Founded in 2011, Kraken is one of the world’s longest-standing crypto platforms, trusted by over 10 million individuals and institutions across the globe. Offering spot trading, margin, futures, staking, and OTC services, with products built for both individual investors and institutional clients.
Kraken Pro is where serious traders live. Millions of them. But a great product only wins if the right traders find it, trust it, and actually fund an account. Right now, our organic engine isn’t pulling its weight.
You’re going to fix that.
THE OPPORTUNITY
We’re seeking a hands-on Head of Organic Growth to own how Kraken Pro gets discovered and how curious traders become active ones. At Kraken, understanding our brand ethos, mission, and the traders we serve is essential. Organic is where brand and acquisition meet.
We’re looking for a player-coach who moves fast but thinks long-term, gets in the weeds while leading from the front, and knows that traffic means nothing if it doesn’t convert. This role demands sharp B2C acquisition instincts, a product-first mindset, an obsession with UX, and a self-starter attitude.
- Own organic acquisition. Build and run the strategy across SEO, content, social, community, referrals, and partnerships to bring high-intent traders to Kraken Pro.
- Find out if people convert. Map the funnel from first touch to first trade, report on it clearly, and figure out where traders drop off and how to win them back.
- Make UX your edge. Work with Product and Design to audit and improve landing pages, sign-up flows, onboarding, and in-product moments. Great acquisition dies in bad UX, and you know it.
- Acquire through brand. Make every growth channel a brand-building one. Reach is easy to buy; trust is what makes traders stay.
- Know the product cold. Use Kraken Pro like a trader would, understand what makes it better, and turn those strengths into growth levers.
- Lead a lean, scrappy team. Set direction, coach, and unblock a small team, while staying hands-on enough to ship, test, and fix things yourself.
- Test and learn. Run experiments across channels and funnel steps, double down on what works, and kill what doesn’t.
- Report what matters. Build clear dashboards and insights that show leadership what’s driving growth, what isn’t, and what to do next.
- Ship responsibly. Partner with Legal/Comms to ensure compliant, accurate, and aligned messaging across regions and platforms.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
- 5+ years in B2C acquisition or growth marketing, ideally in fintech, crypto, trading or gaming with experience in a player-coach role leading a small team.
- Product savvy. You understand how products work, why people use them, and how to turn features into growth.
- UX instinct. You can spot friction in a flow from a mile away and brief Product and Design on how to fix it.
- High AI competency. Enabling you to multiply your impact and keep up with demand.
- Analytical rigor. Comfortable with funnels, cohorts, attribution, and experimentation, and able to turn data into decisions and clear stories.
- Speed under pressure. Markets don’t wait for approval cycles and neither do you.
- Range as a marketer. SEO, content, social, lifecycle, partnerships. You know enough about each to direct the work, and you can roll up your sleeves when needed.
- Taste. Knowing which channels and tactics not to pursue is as valuable as knowing which to scale.
- Familiarity trading culture, and the language traders use.
- Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to align cross-functional teams around a shared growth goal.
Unless a specific application deadline is stated in the job posting, applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.
Please note, applicants are permitted to redact or remove information on their resume that identifies age, date of birth, or dates of attendance at or graduation from an educational institution.
We consider qualified applicants with criminal histories for employment on our team, assessing candidates in a manner consistent with the requirements of the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance.
OUR COMMITMENT
Payward is powered by people from around the world and we celebrate the diverse talents, backgrounds, contributions, and unique perspectives that everyone brings to the table. We hire based on merit, seeking out people with the right abilities, knowledge, and skills for the job. We encourage you to apply for roles where you don't fully meet the listed requirements, especially if you're passionate or knowledgeable about crypto.

At WHOOP, we're on a mission to unlock and inspire performance for life. WHOOP empowers members to perform at a higher level through a deeper understanding of their bodies and daily lives.
WHOOP is a data company, and data is our most valuable asset. The Data, Analytics & AI (DAA) organization turns WHOOP data into trusted intelligence that sharpens every team's decisions. As the data and AI ecosystem grows, making that data trustworthy and safe by default has become a strategic capability, so every product built on it can be relied on.
We are seeking a Director, Data Governance to lead the function as a new pillar within the DAA organization. You will report to our VP of Data, Analytics and AI Acceleration. As the first dedicated leader of this function, you will define the strategy, operating model, and roadmap for data ownership, contracts, event taxonomy, cataloging, access policy, data quality standards, and privacy and compliance. Governance sets the policy and standards; the Data Platform & Engineering pillar engineers and implements them, so this role leads through influence, clear standards, and strong cross-functional partnership.
WHOOP operates a mature data platform. This role builds the governance layer on top of it: formal ownership models, data contracts, an event taxonomy, cataloging and discovery, classification frameworks, and the policies that let the company scale into regulated environments without slowing down. You will build and lead a team and champion intelligent, AI powered approaches to continuously monitor the health and trust of our data.
You should be equally comfortable setting strategy and rolling up your sleeves, and as effective presenting a data classification framework to senior leadership as you are working through a data quality standard with an engineer. Working across Data Platform & Engineering, Analytics, Data Science, Product, GRC, Legal, InfoSec, and RAD, you will earn trust across technical and business teams, drive adoption, and ship enforceable governance outcomes.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Define and lead the data governance strategy, operating model, and roadmap spanning data ownership, contracts, event taxonomy, cataloging, access policy, data quality standards, and privacy and compliance (HIPAA, GDPR, CCPA), aligned with the DAA strategy.
- Build, lead, and coach a small, senior team, developing your people while partnering closely with Staff level technical leaders across the org.
- Establish a formal data ownership model, partnering with engineering and business stakeholders to assign stewardship and accountability for critical datasets.
- Define the standards for data contracts between producing and consuming teams, covering schema stability, SLA adherence, and breaking-change management, with implementation owned by Data Platform & Engineering.
- Own the event taxonomy governance framework, bringing structure to event tracking and standardizing how product and engineering teams define, name, and instrument events across platforms.
- Set data quality standards (freshness, validation, monitoring) and the incident response expectations, partnering with Platform to operationalize automated testing and anomaly detection.
- Champion AI powered governance approaches that proactively surface quality issues, ownership gaps, policy violations, and compliance risks.
- Partner with GRC, Legal, and InfoSec to define the privacy, HIPAA, and compliance standards for how sensitive data is handled, which the platform then implements.
- Define role-based access policy across the data platform, balancing security with self-service accessibility, with enforcement engineered by Platform.
- Embed governance standards directly into engineering and developer workflows so the right way is the easy way, rather than relying on manual processes.
- Develop governance metrics and reporting to track adoption, compliance, and data health across the organization.
- Build a culture where trusted data is a shared responsibility across technical and business functions.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 10+ years in data, engineering, or data governance roles, with a strong background in data governance, data quality, data engineering, or data platform.
- 4+ years of experience leading and building teams.
- Direct experience building data governance programs or frameworks, ideally in a high-growth environment where governance was not yet formalized.
- Hands-on experience with modern data stack tooling: Snowflake, dbt, Airflow/orchestration, and data catalog/lineage tools.
- Working knowledge of healthcare data regulations (HIPAA), or willingness to develop deep expertise quickly given the WHOOP expansion into regulated healthcare products.
- Experience implementing data quality frameworks with automated monitoring and alerting.
- Experience with access control design and administration in cloud data platforms (Snowflake RBAC, row-level security, dynamic data masking).
- Ability to drive cross-functional alignment on data standards and policies, and to lead highly cross-functional initiatives. Comfortable influencing engineering, product, and business teams.
- Experience operating in regulated environments.
- Proven track record managing data oversight for complex research initiatives, such as IRB-regulated studies or trials or regulatory filings for the FDA.
- Excellent executive communication and organizational leadership. Able to translate technical governance concepts into business value for non-technical stakeholders and senior leadership.
- A player-coach orientation. Willing to be deeply hands-on while building repeatable processes and growing a team.
- Strong commitment to embracing and leveraging AI tools in day-to-day tasks, ensuring AI-assisted work aligns with the same high-quality standards as personal contributions.
*This role is based in the WHOOP office located in Boston, MA. The successful candidate must be prepared to relocate if necessary to work out of the Boston, MA office.
Interested in the role, but don’t meet every qualification? We encourage you to still apply! At WHOOP, we believe there is much more to a candidate than what is written on paper, and we value character as much as experience. As we continue to build a diverse and inclusive environment, we encourage anyone who is interested in this role to apply.
WHOOP is an Equal Opportunity Employer and participates in E-verify to determine employment eligibility. It is unlawful in Massachusetts to require or administer a lie detector test as a condition of employment or continued employment. An employer who violates this law shall be subject to criminal penalties and civil liability.
The WHOOP compensation philosophy is designed to attract, motivate, and retain exceptional talent by offering competitive base salaries, meaningful equity, and consistent pay practices that reflect our mission and core values.
At WHOOP, we view total compensation as the combination of base salary, equity, and benefits, with equity serving as a key differentiator that aligns our employees with the long-term success of the company and allows every member of our corporate team to own part of WHOOP and share in the company’s long-term growth and success.
The U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $190,000 - $230,000. Salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within each range, individual pay is based on factors such as job-related skills, experience, performance, and relevant education or training.
In addition to the base salary, the successful candidate will also receive benefits and a generous equity package.
These ranges may be modified in the future to reflect evolving market conditions and organizational needs. While most offers will typically fall toward the starting point of the range, total compensation will depend on the candidate’s specific qualifications, expertise, and alignment with the role’s requirements.

THE TEAM
Founded in 2011, Kraken is one of the world's longest-standing crypto platforms, trusted by over 10 million individuals and institutions across the globe. It offers spot trading, margin, futures, staking, and OTC services, with products built for both individual investors and institutional clients.
Join our Product and Regulatory Legal team, embedded with Kraken's Product, Design and Engineering teams to ship novel products and experiences that accelerate the global adoption of crypto. We are a tight, experienced group of lawyers from a diverse range of tradfi, fintech and crypto backgrounds who move fast, stay curious and take pride in the commercial accountability of our advice, partnering directly with Product, senior leadership and Compliance to chart clear, defensible paths to launch and to keep our licensed entities running smoothly.
This is a senior product-facing legal role for the European Union. You will be the lawyer the business trusts on questions that cut across several regimes at once: for example, a single product such as a tokenised equity, a card, or an institutional custody and prime brokerage service can touch the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive ("MiFID II"), the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation ("MiCA"), the Payment Services Directive ("PSD2"), the Electronic Money Directive ("EMD2") and banking rules at the same time. You will bring clarity on which regime applies, what it requires, and how to launch within it.
THE OPPORTUNITY
Reporting to the Head of Product Legal, you will act as a senior legal adviser to European leadership on new products, licensing structure and regulatory strategy.
- Own cross-functional product counselling for European Union launches from discovery to design, launch and iteration, giving Product, Engineering, Compliance and leadership decision-ready advice with clear options and risk trade-offs
- Advise on the regulatory perimeter and classification of new offerings across MiFID II and the Markets in Financial Instruments Regulation ("MiFIR"), MiCA, the European Market Infrastructure Regulation ("EMIR"), payment services and electronic money rules, and banking regulation, including where an instrument or service falls between regimes (for example tokenised securities, crypto-asset derivatives, margin and financing, and stablecoin-linked products)
- Advise on payments and electronic money offerings, including the Krak card and account propositions, safeguarding, open banking and account-access obligations, and the developing Payment Services Directive 3 and Payment Services Regulation framework
- Advise on banking-related questions that arise in the European Union, including bank partnerships and sponsor-bank arrangements, deposit-taking and lending perimeter questions, the Capital Requirements Regulation and Directive, and the interaction of these rules with our custody, prime brokerage and financing products
- Monitor and interpret European Union legislative and supervisory developments, take part in consultations and industry association work where appropriate, and translate their significance for the business proactively
- Draft and negotiate client-facing terms and conditions, taking clear, business-aligned positions
- Act as gatekeeper for European Union outside counsel engagements: scope the work, estimate and manage cost, and sign off before matters go externally
- Mentor and develop more junior lawyers in the team, set quality standards for plain-English, risk-based advice, and act as a senior sounding board for colleagues across the Regulatory Legal team
- Use AI-assisted tools (for example Enterprise GPTs) to speed up regulatory analysis, first drafts and matter tracking, and to build self-service tools that let stakeholders answer commoditised legal and regulatory questions themselves
- Advise on anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing requirements affecting products, including the Transfer of Funds Regulation ("Travel Rule") and the new European Union anti-money laundering package, and on market abuse, conduct, outsourcing and operational resilience obligations, including the Digital Operational Resilience Act ("DORA")
- Lead or oversee licensing, authorisation and variation workstreams in the European Union, including scoping requirements, mapping pathways, supervising outside counsel, preparing application materials and managing regulator interactions
WHAT YOU BRING
- Qualified lawyer admitted in Ireland, England and Wales, or another European Union Member State
- 15 or more years' post-qualification experience ("PQE") in financial services regulatory law, gained at a regulated financial services institution (for example a bank, payment institution, broker-dealer, exchange, central counterparty or crypto services provider) or at a leading law firm supporting such clients, ideally with in-house or direct product counselling experience
- Deep, current knowledge of several of the following, with real depth in at least two: MiFID II and MiFIR (investment services, market structure, derivatives and conduct), MiCA (crypto-asset services, custody, trading platforms and stablecoins), European Union payment services and electronic money regulation, and European Union banking regulation
- Demonstrated ability to analyse novel products against overlapping regimes and give a clear view on classification and perimeter, including in areas where the rules are unsettled or supervisors have not yet spoken
- Direct experience managing senior regulator relationships, including notifications, information requests, supervisory correspondence and examinations
- Working knowledge of anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing, outsourcing and operational resilience obligations, including DORA
- Proven ability to instruct, supervise and manage the cost of outside counsel across multiple jurisdictions
- Outstanding analytical, drafting and organisational skills, with crisp, plain-English writing
- Ability to distill complex legal and regulatory issues into clear, actionable guidance for non-lawyer stakeholders and for senior leadership
- A pragmatic, commercially accountable approach to legal and regulatory risk that gives stakeholders a useful range of options and a clear recommendation
- Experience mentoring or managing lawyers, and the judgement to know when to escalate
- Comfort operating with a high degree of autonomy in a fast-moving, remote environment
- Familiarity with using AI tools such as Enterprise GPTs to increase the efficiency of legal services
NICE TO HAVES
- Experience advising on tokenised securities and the European Union Distributed Ledger Technology Pilot Regime
- Experience with EMIR, including the clearing obligation, margin for non-centrally cleared derivatives and transaction reporting
- Experience with prime brokerage, securities financing, margin lending or institutional custody
- Experience advising on the United Kingdom cryptoasset regime or other non-European Union frameworks that intersect with European Union operations
- Experience supporting regulatory aspects of corporate transactions, such as change-of-control notifications and entity migrations
- Experience with European Union data protection and consumer protection rules as they apply to financial products
- Fluency in a second European language
- An authentic interest in crypto and digital assets, and familiarity with Payward's and competitors' products
