ABOUT DOCKER
Docker has been one of the most loved brands in developer tooling, trusted by more than 20 million monthly users and over 20 billion container image pulls. From solo founders to the world's largest companies, developers rely on Docker to build, share, and run their applications across our suite of products including Docker Desktop, Docker Hub, and Docker Scout.
We are a globally distributed, remote-first team building the tools that define how software gets built and delivered. As AI agents redefine software development, Docker is at the center of that shift, providing the sandboxed environments, verified images, and secure infrastructure that make autonomous workflows trustworthy by default.
_______________________________________________________________________
THE OPPORTUNITY
Docker is seeking a Senior Principal Engineer to serve as the technical visionary and architect for how software gets built, verified, and trusted.
Every day, millions of developers pull images, install dependencies, and ship builds to production. Each of those steps is a place where something can go wrong, or be made to go wrong. Compromised base images, malicious packages, tampered build steps, unsigned artifacts moving through pipelines nobody is watching. The industry calls this the software supply chain, and it has become one of the most consequential unsolved problems in software engineering.
This role sits in Docker and Ecosystems, the group that owns Docker’s most well known products and our emerging content and SDLC business. You will own the technical strategy for secure software delivery across all of it, defining what verifiable, tamper-resistant software delivery looks like at Docker's scale, then driving the architecture that makes it real for every developer and every enterprise customer using our products.
You will set multi-year technical direction, make architectural decisions that shape Docker's product portfolio, and work directly with the SVP of Engineering and executive team on strategy. You will not manage people. You will change what the industry considers table stakes.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
TECHNICAL VISION AND STRATEGY
- Lead multi-year technical vision for build security and supply chain across Docker Desktop, Hub, Hardened Images, Verified Publishing, and monetization platforms.
- Define and sequence "trusted by default" architecture for 20M developers.
- Partner with the SVP of Engineering to convert commercial strategy into multi-year technical roadmaps.
- Establish company-wide architectural principles and security standards.
- Identify high-leverage platform investments that enhance security across all Docker products.
- Proactively position architecture ahead of evolving supply chain threats and regulatory demands.
BUILD SECURITY ARCHITECTURE
Architect systems to detect and prevent build-process threats like compromised dependencies, malicious steps, tampered artifacts, and untrusted images.
- Design provenance and attestation infrastructure ensuring Docker artifacts carry verifiable build history.
- Define artifact signing, verification, and policy enforcement across local workflows and CI/CD pipelines.
- Architect SBOM generation, dependency analysis, and vulnerability intelligence for complete software visibility.
- Align with and help shape emerging supply chain security standards.
- Ensure security controls remain fast and unobtrusive so developers keep them enabled.
SDLC AND DEVELOPER WORKFLOW INTEGRATION
- Architect how Docker's security capabilities integrate across the full software development lifecycle, from local development through CI/CD to production deployment
- Design the interfaces and contracts that let Docker's tooling embed into the pipelines, registries, and platforms customers already run, rather than asking them to rebuild around us
- Define the developer experience for security tooling, where the secure path is the fast path and the default path
- Architect policy and enforcement models that satisfy enterprise security and compliance requirements without fragmenting the developer workflow
- Drive convergence of security capabilities across Docker products, replacing product-specific implementations with shared platform primitives
TECHNICAL EXCELLENCE AND INFLUENCE
- Work with leaders across engineering to drive strategy and execution
- Mentor and develop Staff and Principal engineers, raising the technical bar across the organization
- Represent Docker's security architecture externally through blog posts, conference talks, standards bodies, and technical community engagement
- Participate in executive-level discussions, providing architectural perspective on business decisions
- Take part in on-call rotation for your team, respond to incidents, debug production issues, and drive continuous improvement of system reliability

About the role
We are looking for an AI Product & Transformation Lead to build the next generation of AI-enabled ways of working across Legal and Enterprise Risk. Please, note experience within Legal or Risk would be useful, but it is not essential. We are particularly interested in people who combine strong AI product, technical, operational or design instincts with enough domain empathy to build trusted solutions.
This is a hands-on AI role for someone who enjoys turning emerging technology into products and capabilities that people genuinely use. You will lead discovery with lawyers, risk professionals, legal operations and business stakeholders, identify high-value opportunities, and turn them into practical AI solutions.
You will not be working only at the level of strategy. You will build and ship AI products, agents, automations, workflows and playbooks; test what works with end users; learn quickly; and create the conditions for other people across Legal and Enterprise Risk to build as well.
You will be embedded in the Legal and Enterprise Risk organisation and partner closely with Compliance, Technology, Data, Information Security and other enabling functions to scale AI capabilities safely across the business.
What you will do
Build and scale AI products:
- Lead structured discovery with Legal and Enterprise Risk teams to identify high-value AI opportunities, recurring friction, manual work and decision bottlenecks.
- Turn real user problems into clear use cases, lightweight prototypes and scalable solutions.
- Build, configure or product-manage AI-enabled tools, agents, workflow automations, self-service experiences and knowledge systems.
- Take solutions from idea to pilot to adoption, including testing, iteration, documentation and handover.
- Balance speed and experimentation with appropriate controls for confidentiality, privilege, data protection, security and legal risk.
Help others build products:
- Make practical AI-building skills accessible to lawyers, risk professionals and Legal Operations colleagues through hands-on sessions, guides and coaching.
- Establish an AI builder community or similar forum for sharing use cases, prompts, prototypes, lessons and reusable components across Legal and Enterprise Risk.
Apply AI to improve how work gets done:
- Map and redesign workflows across Legal and Enterprise Risk, using AI to improve speed, quality, consistency and capacity.
- Create repeatable processes, templates, playbooks and operating rhythms that reduce unnecessary manual effort.
- Design better ways to capture, organise, retrieve and reuse organisational knowledge through AI-enabled search, summarisation and assistance.
- Identify opportunities to improve intake, triage, matter management, contract workflows, reporting and business self-service.
- Establish simple measures of impact, such as time saved, cycle-time reduction, quality improvements, user satisfaction and adoption.
Build alignment and momentum
- Own a prioritised AI product and use-case pipeline based on user need, value, feasibility, adoption potential and risk.
- Bring stakeholders together around clear problems and decisions rather than abstract technology discussions.
- Communicate progress, learnings and trade-offs in a way that works for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Build strong relationships with Technology, Data, Information Security, Procurement and other partners needed to deliver safely at scale.
- Help Legal and Enterprise Risk leadership make informed choices about AI tools, investment, capability, governance and ways of working.
What we are looking for:
- Experience building AI products, automation, digital capabilities or technology-enabled ways of working in a complex organisation.
- A track record of taking ambiguous problems from discovery through to a practical outcome that people actually use.
- Deep practical experience with generative AI, AI agents, workflow automation, knowledge management, no-code or low-code tools, or similar technologies.
- Strong user-centred instincts: you listen carefully, understand how work is really done and design for adoption rather than theoretical capability.
- Strong judgement about confidentiality, privilege, data protection, security, accuracy and responsible use of AI.
- A coaching mindset and the ability to help others become more confident and capable builders.
- Curiosity, pragmatism and a bias towards learning by doing.
Additional Information

ABOUT US
Sierra is the leading platform for customer-facing AI agents, working with many of the world's biggest brands — including The GAP, Rocket Mortgage, SoFi, Sutter Health, and SoftBank — to transform how they serve customers and grow their businesses. We are primarily an in-person company based in San Francisco, with growing offices across North America, Europe, and Asia.
We are guided by a set of values that are at the core of our actions and define our culture: Trust, Customer Obsession, Craftsmanship, Intensity, and a commitment to balancing Family along the way. These values are the foundation of our work, and we are committed to upholding them in everything we do.
Our co-founders are Bret Taylor https://www.linkedin.com/in/brettaylor/ and Clay Bavor https://www.linkedin.com/in/claybavor/. Bret currently serves as Board Chair of OpenAI. Previously, he was co-CEO of Salesforce (which had acquired the company he founded, Quip) and CTO of Facebook. Bret was also one of Google's earliest product managers and co-creator of Google Maps. Before founding Sierra, Clay spent 18 years at Google, where he most recently led Google Labs. Earlier, he started and led Google’s AR/VR effort, Project Starline, and Google Lens. Before that, Clay led the product and design teams for Google Workspace.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Scale The Function: Lead, coach, and develop a high-caliber SE team, providing guidance, assigning projects and ensuring technical excellence. Conduct regular performance evaluations, foster professional growth, and coach team members to reach their full potential.
- Player-Coach: Be a true player-coach who stays in the work: own your own enterprise deals as an individual contributor, running discovery, demos, and technical deep dives alongside your team, while leading and growing a team of high-growth enterprise SEs. Set the bar by example, jump into the most strategic cycles, and turn what you learn in the field into coaching and playbooks that raise the whole team. As the team grows, become a strategic leader and more manager focused.
- GTM Technical Expert: Guide your team in designing and delivering compelling technical demos and proofs of concept for Sierra’s platform, providing technical solutions to customer challenges, and addressing technical questions throughout the sales cycle.
- Cross-Functional Work: Partner closely with Sales, Product, and Agent Engineering teams to define best practices, playbooks, and repeatable processes that enable your team and partnership to scale beyond 1:1 customer interactions.
- Lead & Support Customers: Act as a technical leader in early-stage customer conversations, helping your team understand, anticipate, and solve customer needs to advance Sierra’s industry-leading AI solutions.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
- 5-7+ years of experience in Sales Engineering, Solutions Engineering, or customer-facing technical sales, with at least 3+ years in a leadership capacity.
- Experience developing frameworks for how SEs partner with Sales, Product, and Engineering to deliver impact efficiently across accounts.
- History of establishing metrics and systems that measure SE impact on pipeline health, win rates, and customer adoption.
- Track record of leading presales processes and supporting enterprise and strategic sales cycles from discovery through close.
- Ability to translate customer business problems into Sierra’s technical solutions and clearly communicate to both technical and non-technical stakeholders across complex organizations.
EVEN BETTER
- Experience building Sales Engineering orgs in emerging categories (e.g., AI, data, security).
- Comfort with workflows, AI and ML concepts, APIs/webhooks, and JSON.
OUR VALUES
- Trust: We build trust with our customers with our accountability, empathy, quality, and responsiveness. We build trust in AI by making it more accessible, safe, and useful. We build trust with each other by showing up for each other professionally and personally, creating an environment that enables all of us to do our best work.
- Customer Obsession: We deeply understand our customers’ business goals and relentlessly focus on driving outcomes, not just technical milestones. Everyone at the company knows and spends time with our customers. When our customer is having an issue, we drop everything and fix it.
- Craftsmanship: We get the details right, from the words on the page to the system architecture. We have good taste. When we notice something isn’t right, we take the time to fix it. We are proud of the products we produce. We continuously self-reflect to continuously self-improve.
- Intensity: We know we don’t have the luxury of patience. We play to win. We care about our product being the best, and when it isn’t, we fix it. When we fail, we talk about it openly and without blame so we succeed the next time.
- Family: We know that balance and intensity are compatible, and we model it in our actions and processes. We are the best technology company for parents. We support and respect each other and celebrate each other’s personal and professional achievements.
WHAT WE OFFER
We want our benefits to reflect our values and offer the following to full-time employees:
- Flexible (unlimited) paid time off
- Medical, dental, and vision benefits for you and your family
- Life insurance and disability benefits
- Retirement plan dependent on country of employment
- Parental leave
- Fertility and family building benefits through Carrot
- Lunch, as well as delicious snacks and coffee to keep you energized
- Discretionary benefit stipend giving people the ability to spend where it matters most
- Free alphorn lessons
These benefits are further detailed in Sierra's policies, may vary by region, and are subject to change at any time, consistent with the terms of any applicable compensation or benefits plans. Eligible full-time employees can participate in Sierra's equity plans subject to the terms of the applicable plans and policies.
BE YOU, WITH US
We're working to bring the transformative power of AI to every organization in the world. To do so, it is important to us that the diversity of our employees represents the diversity of our customers. We believe that our work and culture are better when we encourage, support, and respect different skills and experiences represented within our team. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't precisely match the job description. We're also embracing AI thoughtfully — both in how we build and how we hire to ensure our team is adaptable, innovative, and ready for what's next.
THE ROLE
Kit is growing, and so are the legal complexities of our business. We're looking for a Senior Legal Counsel to help us navigate them with clarity, speed, and commercial savvy. You'll serve as in-house legal subject matter expert, partnering closely with the executive team to lead product legal strategy and execution—especially around privacy, data, AI and compliance, commercial contracts, customer security requirements, and scalable legal support for our teams. A key focus will be helping Kit respond to a growing volume of privacy questions—particularly as one of our newer products, Subscriber Signals https://kit.com/features/signals, evolves by building practical, repeatable systems that provide timely and consistent guidance at scale.
You'll help shape the legal backbone of a fast-moving tech company with multiple revenue streams—including SaaS, digital commerce, paid reccomendations, and advertising—and a rapidly growing platform for creators. To advise the business effectively, you'll develop a deep understanding of Kit, SparkLoop https://sparkloop.app/, Subscriber Signals, and how creators get value from our connected ecosystem of apps and tools. You'll be at the center of complex, cross-functional problems where product, business, and legal strategy meet—all in service of helping creators build more valuable businesses.
YOUR SUPPORT SYSTEM
You'll report to our Chief Operating Officer, Brian Bevel https://www.linkedin.com/in/brian-bevel-92895ba/, and partner regularly with leaders across product, sales, finance, and people operations. You'll own our core legal work in-house, reduce the need for outside counsel, and know when specialized outside counsel is truly needed.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- First week: Get up to speed on our business model, current goals, and products. Learn about the product, SparkLoop, Subscriber Signals, and how creators get value from our connected ecosystem of apps and tools. Meet key internal stakeholders and our external counsel. Review our most common legal agreements, privacy questions, and customer security requests to assess where we have risk, opportunity, ambiguity, or recurring work that can be handled more efficiently.
- First month: Get your arms around active data processing, privacy, AI, and other legal initiatives, and build a "what's on deck" view of upcoming legal needs. Map the recurring privacy support questions arising across Kit—particularly around Subscriber Signals, and begin designing a scalable intake, guidance, and escalation system. Partner with Sales, Sponsorships, Security, Product, and Engineering to move faster without cutting corners. Take ownership of GDPR and data compliance vetting and establish a clear process for responding to customer security questionnaires.
- First six months: You’re the go-to partner for legal considerations across the business, particularly for our product, engineering, security, and GTM teams. Build scalable systems—such as playbooks, templates, intake processes, and self-service guidance—for answering recurring privacy, data-use, and compliance questions. Partner throughout the product lifecycle on initiatives and feature releases, with particular attention to Subscriber Signals and our connected ecosystem of products. Prioritize our biggest legal risks, reduce unnecessary reliance on outside counsel, and streamline legal workflows to increase speed, confidence, and self-service.
- First year: Help Kit operate at a higher level of legal maturity across privacy, compliance, product counsel, commercial contracts, and security support. Establish durable systems that allow teams to answer common questions independently while escalating higher-risk matters appropriately. Help us treat privacy, data, and compliance as strategic enablers—not just boxes to check—and significantly reduce our reliance on outside counsel for work we can handle effectively in-house.
WHAT WILL S.E.T. YOU UP FOR SUCCESS
Skills
- Deep expertise in data, compliance, and product—this is where you'll spend most of your time.
- Strong ability to navigate U.S. and European data privacy laws (e.g., GDPR, CCPA), including familiarity with data controller vs. processor distinctions and how they shape vendor and product decisions.
- Ability to translate privacy and compliance requirements into scalable playbooks, templates, intake processes, and self-service guidance
- Experience supporting customer security questionnaires and partnering effectively with security, sales, product, and engineering teams
- Familiarity with SOC 2 Type II and the legal, privacy, and customer requirements associated with it, even if you haven't directly owned a certification process
- Understanding of intellectual property law, especially related to brand, content, and software
- Understanding of commercial contracts—you'll become the go-to person for these at Kit.
- Clear communicator and trusted advisor—able to simplify complexity and help others make informed decisions
Experiences
- Experience as in-house counsel at a tech company or serving a tech portfolio at a top-tier firm that's well-known for their work with startups (e.g., Fenwick & West, Cooley)
- J.D. from an accredited law school in the United States
- Active member in good standing of a State Bar Association
Traits
- Strategic thinker who sees legal as a lever, not a blocker
- Deeply curious and business-oriented—you start by understanding the goals, then explore the smartest paths to get there.
- Collaborative partner who can navigate conflict productively
- Deep belief that creator success is our success—you consider both Kit and our customers in every recommendation
- A "how might we" problem-solver who finds creative, business-aligned paths through legal challenges
WHAT WON'T SET YOU UP FOR SUCCESS
- Needing a team of in-house peers or co-counsel to pressure-test every decision—you'll be our sole in-house legal expert, with outside counsel available as needed
- A strongly risk-averse or "no-before-yes" mindset—we need you to help us move, not just stop us from tripping
- Thinking in a legal vacuum—if you're not factoring in our goals, numbers, or creators, your advice won't land
- Struggling with speed or ownership—if you prefer long timelines or wait to be told what to do, this won't be the right environment. We move quickly and expect people to take initiative, spot problems, and drive solutions.

Pre-sale, you're front and centre: positioning our issuing platform, building custom card program flows, live demos, and POCs, and winning over the prospect's engineers, product leads, and payments architects while your Account Executive drives the commercial thread. Once the deal is ready, the weight shifts: our Implementation Engineers lead the build and you stay close, ensuring your issuing card program survives contact with reality.
You'll work on a modern, fast-moving platform alongside passionate payments experts across commercial and operations teams.
People who do well here are curious by default: they pull threads, teach themselves what the job needs next, and thrive in fast-paced commercial environments where they act before anyone asks. If that's how you work, you'll like it here.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
- Drive Technical Deal Execution: Partner closely with Sales and Account Managers and the broader Issuing Operations team in high-velocity, high-stakes commercial environments to position Checkout.com http://Checkout.com’s card issuing platform, winning complex, multi-product deals.
- Architect Card Issuing Solutions: Understand client requirements across card issuing (virtual and physical cards, funding approaches, balance management, interchange economics as examples) and map them to our APIs and operational workflows to create robust solution designs.
- Build & Demonstrate: Run live technical demos, create POCs, and customise technical presentations for developer, operational, and executive audiences alike.
- Provide Issuing Domain Leadership: Act as an expert on Card Issuing, Program Management, Authorisation & Settlement streams, Network Tokenisation, 3DS, Fraud/Risk Controls, and card program operations.
- Lead Client Technical Interactions: Lead all technical discussions, from discovery calls and architecture workshops to operational readiness sessions, from first contact through go-live, collaborating closely with Implementation Engineers.
- Support Complex Procurement (RFPs/RFIs): Support the BID management team on technical, operational, security, and card program design queries in RFP and RFI responses.
- Voice of the Customer & Operational Feedback: Feed real-world program manager and developer feedback back to Product, Engineering, and Issuing Operations to champion card issuing feature enhancements and process improvements.
- Industry & Technical Mastery: Maintain deep expertise on Checkout.com http://Checkout.com’s issuing platform and stay ahead of evolving card scheme rules, issuing infrastructure, and European payment regulations.
- Full Lifecycle Technical Ownership: Equally comfortable wearing the hat of a pre-sales Solutions Engineer to win complex deals, and driving post-launch technical support, operational health, and incident resolution in production environments, fully owning the 360-degree client relationship from initial discovery through long-term delivery.
