ClickHouse is expanding its cloud data platform across AWS, GCP, and Azure—adding new capabilities that connect and extend Postgres and ClickHouse for modern data workloads. We’re hiring a Senior SRE / Senior Infrastructure Engineer to own reliability, automation, and operations as these services scale globally.
You’ll be at the center of how we run and evolve our next-generation data platform—building the automation, observability, and operational rigor that ensure a fast, secure, and dependable customer experience. This is a hands-on, high-impact role where you’ll write code, shape architecture, and enable the broader engineering team to deliver with confidence and velocity.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Lead reliability and operations for ClickHouse’s Postgres integration — upgrades, patching, maintenance, and scaling.
- Design and implement automation for provisioning, deployments, and service lifecycle management across AWS, GCP, and Azure.
- Develop infrastructure-as-code using Terraform and modern CI/CD tooling to ensure consistent, repeatable deployments.
- Contribute Go-based tooling and services that improve automation, observability, and developer experience.
- Own observability and monitoring, ensuring robust alerting, metrics, and tracing across environments.
- Drive incident management and postmortem practices that strengthen reliability and learning loops.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with platform, networking, and product teams to improve service operability.
- Mentor and enable engineers, helping the team scale effectively as customer adoption grows.
ABOUT YOU
- Experience: 7+ years in SRE, DevOps, or infrastructure engineering, with a track record of running distributed, production-grade systems.
- Database Operations: Solid understanding of Postgres operations, scaling, and performance tuning.
- Cloud Expertise: Deep hands-on experience across AWS, with exposure to GCP and Azure; comfortable navigating multi-cloud topologies.
- Automation Skills: Proficient with Terraform, Kubernetes, and container-based infrastructure.
- Programming: Strong Go development skills (or willingness to write and own production Go code).
- Observability: Familiar with tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, OpenTelemetry, or equivalents.
- Reliability Focus: Deep understanding of SLOs, incident response, and continuous improvement in service reliability.
- Mindset: You operate with a founder’s mentality — hands-on, resourceful, and willing to dive deep to get things done. You take pride in hard work, autonomy, and shipping impactful systems.
WHY JOIN US
- Build and operate the foundation for ClickHouse’s Postgres integration / extension, spanning multiple CSPs.
- Work on a small, elite team where ownership, reliability, and speed are core values.
- Shape the operational practices and automation that will define how ClickHouse runs databases in the cloud.
- Write production code, influence architecture, and mentor others — all while scaling a high-impact platform from the ground up.
- Be part of a company redefining performance, simplicity, and developer experience in data infrastructure.

ABOUT DOCKER
Docker has been one of the most loved brands in developer tooling, trusted by more than 20 million monthly users and over 20 billion container image pulls. From solo founders to the world's largest companies, developers rely on Docker to build, share, and run their applications across our suite of products including Docker Desktop, Docker Hub, and Docker Scout.
We are a globally distributed, remote-first team building the tools that define how software gets built and delivered. As AI agents redefine software development, Docker is at the center of that shift, providing the sandboxed environments, verified images, and secure infrastructure that make autonomous workflows trustworthy by default.
_______________________________________________________________________
Docker’s AI Tools & Security team is building the foundation for the next generation of secure, developer-friendly AI infrastructure. Our flagship product, the MCP Gateway, empowers developers to connect, observe, and secure AI agents and tools across the entire lifecycle—from prototype to production. We’re defining how developers safely harness the power of the Model Context Protocol (MCP) in real-world environments.
We’re looking for a Principal Backend Engineer who thrives at the intersection of AI, security, and developer experience. You’ll lead the technical direction of the Gateway and related services, collaborating closely with Product, Design, and Security to deliver elegant frameworks and APIs that developers love to use. This is a high-velocity, high-ownership environment: you’ll ship fast, iterate constantly, and help shape the future of secure agent-based development.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Define the technical solution for a new product
- Help shape the product with peers in Product and Design
- Mentor other technical team members
- Be the technical point of contact for the team
- This role may require participation in an on-call rotation to provide support outside of standard business hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED:
- 10+ years of backend engineering experience, including extensive work on production-grade, distributed systems at scale.
- Technical leadership across multiple teams or domains, with a proven ability to drive architectural vision, set technical direction, and influence long-term product strategy.
- Exceptional product and platform mindset—you think beyond implementation details to how technology shapes developer and business outcomes.
- Expertise in designing and evolving large-scale, cloud-native systems, with deep knowledge of distributed computing, service-oriented architecture, and performance optimization.
- Demonstrated experience building secure, resilient, and high-throughput backend services, with a strong grasp of reliability engineering principles (SLOs, observability, incident response).
- Fluency in Go (preferred) or another modern systems language (Rust, Java, C++, etc.), with the ability to lead technical design reviews and mentor others in language-specific best practices.
- Strong grasp of software engineering fundamentals—CI/CD, testing strategy, source control, and deployment automation—applied in complex, multi-service environments.
- Proven track record of technical mentorship and cross-functional collaboration, enabling teams to deliver high-impact, high-quality software efficiently.
- Deep experience with major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and infrastructure-as-code tooling.
- Ownership mentality with a bias for action and iterative delivery, balancing short-term impact with long-term architectural health.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Comfortable operating autonomously in distributed, remote-first teams, and leading through influence rather than authority.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
BONUS:
- Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and microservices architecture
- Prior experience with OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar LLM APIs, and the MCP specification

- Love building from scratch — frameworks, processes, teams, and strategy
- Excellent written communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to simplify complexity
- Are equally comfortable writing a launch announcement, building a competitive teardown, or running a cross-functional sync
- Have a founder mindset: you identify gaps and fill them, move quickly, and don’t wait for someone else to define the playbook
- Proven ability to partner directly with engineers and product managers, turning technical concepts into simple, powerful stories
- Strong project management skills — you can juggle multiple launches and keep teams aligned under pressure

About Clarity
We’re pioneering Agentic AI — systems that don’t just respond, but reason, act, and adapt autonomously in complex workflows. This is about crafting AI Agent Experiences — designing agents that collaborate seamlessly with humans, learn from context, and make every customer interaction faster, smarter, and more empathetic.
You’ll own the technical vision and turn requirements into a live, reliable product used by brands like Grubhub, Booking.com http://Booking.com, Dropbox, Uber, Careem, and Fubo. You’ll collaborate directly with engineers, other tech leads, directors, and the CTO to evolve ambitious prototypes into a rock‑solid, scalable platform
What you’ll actually do
50% Build — design & ship
- Agentic AI for CX: Real‑time assistants that listen to calls/chats, retrieve from customer KBs, and draft responses with human‑in‑the‑loop controls.
- Structured extraction: Schema‑driven pipelines over unstructured text (and other modalities) using retrieval, tool‑use, and robust LLM prompting.
- Hybrid anomaly detection: Blend classical time‑series methods (e.g., decomposition, change‑point, forecasting) with LLM‑aware, contextful detectors for seasonality, spikes, step‑changes, and drift.
- Novelty discovery: Embedding‑based clustering and drift, topic surfacing, LLM summarization of emerging themes with deduplication and evidence links.
- Alerting & scoring: Severity/impact ranking, de‑noising, suppression/cool‑downs, routing, and feedback loops.
25% Architect & scale
- Own reliability, latency, and cost. Design online/offline eval harnesses, canaries, and SLAs; operate GPUs/accelerators where needed.
- Stand up and harden RAG pipelines (indexing, retrieval policies, grounding, guardrails) and agent frameworks.
- Take basic infra ownership on GCP (or AWS/Azure): networking, autoscaling, CI/CD, IaC, observability, and cost tuning.
- Participate in on‑call for your area and drive root‑cause analysis with crisp follow‑ups.
15% Collaborate
- Pair with back‑end & front‑end to wire extractors/detectors and agents into ticketing, voice, and analytics stacks (APIs, webhooks, real‑time streams).
- Partner with PMs/CX to evolve taxonomies, schemas, and guardrails; translate business problems into shipped ML features.
10% Align & showcase
- Gather requirements from CX and product leads, demo new capabilities to execs & customers, and document impact with precision/recall, alert quality, latency, and cost metrics.
What makes you a great fit
- Startup hacker mindset: You self‑start from zero, respect no silos, and carry work from prototype to production. 🛠️
- AI‑native dev tools are your daily drivers: Cursor, v0, Claude Code (or similar).
- 7–10 years building production ML/back‑end systems; 2+ years leading while coding.
- Expert Python; strong back‑end chops (e.g., FastAPI, gRPC, Postgres, pub/sub/streams).
- Agents & RAG: Fluency with at least one agent framework (ADK preferred). Proven track record shipping AI agents and building RAG pipelines.
- LLM + DS depth: Prompting/tooling, retrieval design, LLM evals; hands‑on with time‑series analysis (forecasting, change‑point, drift).
- Cloud & ops: Basic infra ownership on GCP (or AWS/Azure): networking, autoscaling, CI/CD, IaC, observability, and cost control.
- Communication: You explain results clearly, align stakeholders, and write crisp docs.
Bonus points
- DevOps wizardry; GPU/accelerator experience.
- Multimodal pipelines (text + voice + screenshots).
- Prior experience in contact center/CX analytics or novelty/anomaly systems.
- Founder or founding engineer experience

ABOUT US
Sierra is the leading platform for customer-facing AI agents, working with many of the world's biggest brands — including The GAP, Rocket Mortgage, SoFi, Sutter Health, and SoftBank — to transform how they serve customers and grow their businesses. We are primarily an in-person company based in San Francisco, with growing offices across North America, Europe, and Asia.
We are guided by a set of values that are at the core of our actions and define our culture: Trust, Customer Obsession, Craftsmanship, Intensity, and a commitment to balancing Family along the way. These values are the foundation of our work, and we are committed to upholding them in everything we do.
Our co-founders are Bret Taylor https://www.linkedin.com/in/brettaylor/ and Clay Bavor https://www.linkedin.com/in/claybavor/. Bret currently serves as Board Chair of OpenAI. Previously, he was co-CEO of Salesforce (which had acquired the company he founded, Quip) and CTO of Facebook. Bret was also one of Google's earliest product managers and co-creator of Google Maps. Before founding Sierra, Clay spent 18 years at Google, where he most recently led Google Labs. Earlier, he started and led Google’s AR/VR effort, Project Starline, and Google Lens. Before that, Clay led the product and design teams for Google Workspace.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
As an Agent Strategist https://sierra.ai/blog/agent-strategist-your-phd-in-applied-ai, you own how Sierra's AI agents come to life for our customers — from first pilot to a production agent handling thousands of conversations a day. You sit at the intersection of product, building agents and customer-facing work, and stay just as close to the technology as you are to the people you build for. You transform a customer's thorniest, highest-stakes problems into agents that measurably move their business.
- Own the Agent Development Life Cycle https://sierra.ai/blog/agent-development-life-cycle. Take agents from initial scope through conversation design, tooling, and evaluation, to launch and continuous iteration in production — translating business goals into an agent that outperforms, and tuning relentlessly until it's the best version of itself in the real world. You'll have real ownership and autonomy over the outcome.
- Be the trusted strategic advisor to enterprise leaders. Sit shoulder-to-shoulder with our customers' executives, understand what success actually means to their business, and shape the AI strategy that gets them there.
- Partner with the customer's working teams day to day. Run working sessions, troubleshoot the agent as issues come up, and make the calls that keep the build on track for launch.
- Directly impact product. Surface unmet needs from your customer work, and feed them back to research and platform to shape where Sierra goes next.
EXAMPLE PROJECTS
These are the kinds of projects that strategists on our team have worked on recently:
- Scope and launch a subscription-retention agent for a large telecommunications or media company that consistently outperforms human agents at saving at-risk customers.
- Stand up an agent for a commerce customer that troubleshoots a broken device end-to-end and personalizes product recommendations in the same conversation.
- Redesign the conversation flows for a financial services agent so it can handle complex, regulated interactions — and convert a pilot into a multi-team production deployment. See our financial services blog https://sierra.ai/blog/five-ways-to-use-ai-agents-financial-services for examples.
- Partner with product on a net-new capability — a new agent architecture or self-service tooling — using a live customer as the design partner.
- Define the evaluation and quality bar for a new agent, then use those metrics to drive a measurable lift in outcome https://sierra.ai/blog/outcome-based-pricing-for-ai-agents week over week.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
- Customer obsession. Genuine energy being in front of customers — understanding their business and needs, thriving in complex organizations, and building trusted relationships.
- Communication. Clear, direct, and persuasive across technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strategic problem-solving in ambiguity. Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills to break down complex problems, spot risks early, and adapt as things change fast.
- Technical aptitude. Comfortable engaging directly with technical concepts - reading API documentation, understanding data models and system architecture, and following engineering tradeoffs in a design discussion.
- Ownership and delivery. A track record of running multiple complex, high-visibility projects at once and driving them to outcomes.
EVEN BETTER...
- Experience building or deploying AI/LLM agents in production — hands-on with the tools behind them (eval frameworks, agent tooling, RAG, prompt engineering) — working closely with technical counterparts.
- You've been a founder, founding team member, or operator — you know how to balance craft, ownership, and speed.
- A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience — and/or an MBA or comparable experience at the intersection of technology and business.
OUR VALUES
- Trust: We build trust with our customers with our accountability, empathy, quality, and responsiveness. We build trust in AI by making it more accessible, safe, and useful. We build trust with each other by showing up for each other professionally and personally, creating an environment that enables all of us to do our best work.
- Customer Obsession: We deeply understand our customers’ business goals and relentlessly focus on driving outcomes, not just technical milestones. Everyone at the company knows and spends time with our customers. When our customer is having an issue, we drop everything and fix it.
- Craftsmanship: We get the details right, from the words on the page to the system architecture. We have good taste. When we notice something isn’t right, we take the time to fix it. We are proud of the products we produce. We continuously self-reflect to continuously self-improve.
- Intensity: We know we don’t have the luxury of patience. We play to win. We care about our product being the best, and when it isn’t, we fix it. When we fail, we talk about it openly and without blame so we succeed the next time.
- Family: We know that balance and intensity are compatible, and we model it in our actions and processes. We are the best technology company for parents. We support and respect each other and celebrate each other’s personal and professional achievements.
WHAT WE OFFER
We want our benefits to reflect our values and offer the following to full-time employees:
- Flexible (unlimited) paid time off
- Medical, dental, and vision benefits for you and your family
- Life insurance and disability benefits
- Retirement plan dependent on country of employment
- Parental leave
- Fertility and family building benefits through Carrot
- Lunch, as well as delicious snacks and coffee to keep you energized
- Discretionary benefit stipend giving people the ability to spend where it matters most
- Free alphorn lessons
These benefits are further detailed in Sierra's policies, may vary by region, and are subject to change at any time, consistent with the terms of any applicable compensation or benefits plans. Eligible full-time employees can participate in Sierra's equity plans subject to the terms of the applicable plans and policies.
BE YOU, WITH US
We're working to bring the transformative power of AI to every organization in the world. To do so, it is important to us that the diversity of our employees represents the diversity of our customers. We believe that our work and culture are better when we encourage, support, and respect different skills and experiences represented within our team. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't precisely match the job description. We strive to evaluate all applicants consistently without regard to race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, pregnancy, gender expression or identity, sexual orientation, citizenship, or any other legally protected class.

ABOUT US
Sierra is the leading platform for customer-facing AI agents, working with many of the world's biggest brands — including The GAP, Rocket Mortgage, SoFi, Sutter Health, and SoftBank — to transform how they serve customers and grow their businesses.
