ABOUT US:
AI NEEDS A NEW INFRASTRUCTURE LAYER. WE'RE BUILDING IT AT MODAL.
Every era of computing brought new workloads that previous infrastructure couldn't support: mainframes, databases, and the cloud. Each time, the company that rebuilt the layer underneath defined the decade. AI is no different, except it touches everything instead of one slice, and the window to build the layer underneath it is open right now.
Our customers include category-defining companies like Ramp https://modal.com/blog/how-ramp-built-a-full-context-background-coding-agent-on-modal, Cognition, DoorDash, and Suno. They rely on Modal for instant GPU access, sub-second container starts, and native storage, so it's simple to serve low-latency inference, fine-tune models, and access production-ready sandboxes at scale.
We've passed $1B in annualized run rate, up 15x from a year ago. In October 2026 we raised a $750M Series D led by Accel at a $15.75B valuation.
Our team includes creators of popular open-source projects (e.g.,Seaborn https://github.com/mwaskom/seaborn,Luigi https://github.com/spotify/luigi), academic researchers, international olympiad medalists, and experienced engineering and product leaders with decades of experience.
THE ROLE:
Modal’s Inference Runtime team owns the container runtime stack used to run inference and training workloads across our fleet. We work at the boundary of Linux, containers, filesystems, storage, GPU drivers, and distributed systems.
Our goal is to make demanding ML workloads start quickly, run efficiently, and remain securely isolated, whether they use a single GPU, hundreds of gigabytes of memory, or multiple GPUs connected with RDMA.
We’re looking for a systems engineer who enjoys working deep in the stack. You’ll build production runtime infrastructure in Rust and Go, diagnose difficult Linux and performance problems, and help determine the architecture of Modal’s container platform. You’ll also work closely with maintainers of gVisor and contribute to the runtime itself when the right fix belongs upstream.
WHAT YOU'LL WORK ON:
- Make container startup, checkpoint, and restore dramatically faster for large inference and training workloads
- Build multi-GPU and accelerator-aware snapshotting, including efficient handling of GPU memory and RDMA-enabled workloads
- Design zero-copy and low-copy data paths between container memory, filesystems, storage, and Modal’s runtime
- Optimize large snapshot pipelines using techniques such as parallel uploads, direct I/O, incremental snapshots, and more efficient memory handling
- Improve container image and filesystem performance across EROFS, FUSE, page caches, overlay filesystems, and remote storage
- Extend our sandboxed runtime to support new GPUs, drivers, profiling tools, and device capabilities across NVIDIA and AMD hardware
- Debug complex failures involving system calls, virtual memory, process lifecycle, kernel behavior, GPU drivers, and container isolation
- Safely roll out runtime and kernel changes across a heterogeneous fleet using compatibility controls, scheduling constraints, feature flags, and observability
- Work across the runtime, scheduler, storage, and GPU infrastructure, and take ambiguous production problems from investigation through deployment
YOU MAY BE A FIT IF:
- You have strong Linux systems knowledge, particularly processes, virtual memory, filesystems, system calls, scheduling, namespaces, cgroups, and signals
- You’ve built or debugged container runtimes, sandboxes, the Linux kernel, or similarly low-level infrastructure
- You have strong programming ability in Rust, Go, or another systems language, and an interest in becoming productive in both Rust and Go
- You’ve profiled and improved systems where memory movement, I/O, synchronization, or kernel interactions dominate performance
- You’re comfortable debugging across abstraction boundaries, from application behavior down through runtimes, drivers, and the kernel
- You can turn loosely defined production problems into well-designed, reliable systems
- You want to own important infrastructure and work closely with both internal teams and customers
NICE-TO-HAVE:
Any of the following would be helpful, but none is required:
- gVisor, runsc, runc, OCI runtimes, seccomp, or checkpoint/restore systems
- Linux kernel development, virtualization, sandboxing, kernel modules, or device proxying
- CUDA, ROCm, GPU drivers, accelerator virtualization, or GPU profiling
- RDMA and high-performance networking
- FUSE, EROFS, direct I/O, mmap, page-cache behavior, or storage engines
- Large-memory or multi-GPU inference and training systems
- Contributions to open-source systems software
Prior gVisor or machine-learning experience is not required. We care more about strong systems fundamentals, curiosity, and the ability to learn unfamiliar parts of the stack.
WHY THIS ROLE:
The container runtime is directly on the critical path for inference performance. Improvements here can substantially reduce cold starts, increase token throughput, unlock new accelerator types, and make previously impractical workloads possible.
This is an opportunity to work on unusually deep systems problems with immediate production impact. You’ll have room to shape the architecture, contribute to open-source runtime technology, and take ownership of foundational infrastructure used by every inference and training workload on Modal.

- Make the legal function faster with AI, and build and configure tooling to make us more efficient
- Manage corporate administration and record-keeping, including Board and stockholder matters, signature coordination, and building a knowledge management system and database
- Be the point person for corporate compliance, including entity management, foreign and domestic qualifications and filings, and coordination with registered agents
- Support stock administration and cap table hygiene
- Manage outside counsel and legal spend
YOU MAY BE A FIT IF:
- You have 5+ years in legal operations, contract operations, or a corporate paralegal role, preferably at a high-growth technology company
- You’ve built and documented processes from the ground up, not just executed existing ones
- You have experience configuring workflows and templates within Ironclad or a similar CLM
- You have experience with AI tools and good instincts about where they help and where they quietly introduce risk
- You have sound judgment about what to handle and what to escalate
NICE-TO-HAVE:
- Exposure to corporate and equity administration
- Familiarity with Carta or a similar equity administration platform
We're looking for a manager to own the performance of our Document Processing team and lead the Processing Supervisors who run it day to day. If you think in systems, lead through others, and measure what matters, this role is for you.

About the team
SmithDB is LangChain's internal database team. We're building a storage and query layer purpose-built for AI observability and evaluation. Within six months we went from idea to a production system that offers industry leading performance and scalability for agent observability data. We're a small, fast team of systems engineers tackling genuinely hard problems: storage layout, query execution, compaction, and scaling toward trillions of agent traces. We develop in Rust, run on Kubernetes, and integrate tightly with S3/GCS/Azure Blob. There are no legacy constraints; this is a greenfield system with real production load and ambitious engineering goals.
About the role
We're looking for a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead the SmithDB team. This is not a pure people-management role. You'll write production code, review PRs at the systems level, make architectural calls, and be in the weeds alongside your engineers. At the same time, you'll own team health, hiring, technical roadmap, and coordination with the broader LangSmith platform. The ideal candidate has deep systems or database engineering experience and genuinely prefers to stay technical while growing a team.
What you'll do
- Write and review production Rust code across ingestion, query execution, and storage layers
- Lead architectural decisions on storage format, compaction, indexing, and query planning
- Drive performance investigations using memory and CPU profiling tools; own the path from profiling to shipped fix
- Design and harden the distributed deployment of SmithDB services on Kubernetes (multi-tenant, high-throughput, low-latency)
- Contribute to cloud object store integrations (S3, GCS, Azure Blob) and set the standard for how SmithDB manages data at rest and in flight
- Build and maintain observability for the engine itself: metrics, tracing, debug tooling
- Manage a small but growing team of systems engineers: set goals, run 1:1s, provide technical mentorship, and grow careers
- Own the SmithDB technical roadmap in partnership with LangSmith product and engineering leadership
- Communicate progress, risks, and tradeoffs clearly to the broader organization: you write concise, decision-ready updates
What you'll bring
- 7+ years in systems or database engineering, with at least 2 years in a technical lead or engineering management role
- Production Rust experience — you can write it, review it, and have opinions on how to structure it at scale
- Deep understanding of database or storage engine internals: query execution, storage layouts, indexing, compaction
- Proficiency in systems performance analysis: memory allocators, CPU hotspots, lock contention, async runtimes (Tokio)
- Experience deploying and operating distributed services on Kubernetes in a production, multi-tenant environment
- Familiarity with cloud object storage (S3-compatible APIs, consistency models, cost/performance tradeoffs)
- Proven track record of managing engineers — you can recruit, retain, and level-up a team without losing your technical edge
Nice-to-have:
- Experience building or contributing to columnar storage formats (Parquet, Arrow), OLAP query engines, or time-series stores
- Background in observability infrastructure or tracing pipelines (OpenTelemetry, ClickHouse, Prometheus)
- Experience scaling a system from early-stage to hundreds of billions / trillions of records
Compensation

2025 and 2026 Graduate Software Engineers
into engineering teams around the world. As a global platform company we offer a wide range of software engineering challenges, in both open source products and commercial business systems. We have teams that work in a variety of languages, typically Python, Golang, Rust, C/C++, JavaScript and of course... Bash. We work from the very lowest levels of the Linux system - BIOS and boot loaders, firmware, kernel and drivers, all the way up to desktop applications and containers. We work on tiny devices like the Raspberry Pi and new RISC-V boards, all the way up to supercomputers, clouds and Kubernetes clusters. We work on compilers and toolchains, and we work on security, cryptography, performance and documentation. Some of our teams focus on packaging thousands of pieces of software, others focus on deep contributions to a single body of code.
If you are excited about the potential that open source has for humanity and the enterprise, you have outstanding results in your academic career, and you are excited to contribute to the open source stack, this is the best way to apply to Canonical. We will work with you to identify teams and projects that would be interesting and a good fit for your skills and motivations. The process is highly competitive, it will require effort and excellence to succeed if you apply here.
Most of our engineering teams work from home. We try to align a single team in a single time zone - EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa), APAC (Asia Pacific and Indian Ocean), and AMER (North, South and Central Americas). Even though you work from home, we try to ensure you always have colleagues alongside to coach and mentor you, and for the companionship of shared problem solving and pair programming. Larger projects have multiple teams and might span the globe. We work with the open source community and specialize in building teams that work well in the 'fishbowl' of open source engineering. This is full time work, five days a week, often solving hard problems with significant responsibility. We don't generally work weekends and nights and we do enjoy good holidays but we also expect productive and intense engagement Monday to Friday.
We bring all our engineering teams together in person twice a year for a deep 'sprint' with other teams to stimulate discussion and enable a wide range of career development paths. This is a fantastic way to demonstrate and develop your skill in software, learn about a wide range of technologies, make a meaningful impact to open source, and see some very interesting new cities that you might never otherwise get to visit.
If you find the open source stack amazing, and you have been a consistent high-performing student in your school and university, then this will be a challenging and exciting start to your career.

About the Team
Cloud Onboarding Architects work alongside Customer Onboarding Managers, Technical Instructors, Resident Solutions Architects within Professional Services. This team ensures that every new managed enterprise customer has a fully configured dbt platform account and is confident using it.
Guided Setup is often a customer’s first hands-on experience with dbt. The team sits at the intersection of technical implementation, customer experience, and product feedback; helping customers navigate the complexity of their data, identity, security, and development environments while ensuring they are set up for long-term success.
About the Role
The Cloud Onboarding Architect Lead is the technical leader for Guided Setup across our dbt enterprise customer base. You’ll own the most complex and highest-visibility setup engagements while also helping define how the entire team delivers setup at scale.
This role combines hands-on technical delivery with technical leadership. You’ll be the person other Cloud Onboarding Architects turn to when a customer has an unusual architecture, an implementation has stalled, or the existing playbook doesn’t quite fit. You’ll also work across Professional Services, Engineering, Product, and Design to turn those individual challenges into better processes, documentation, and product experiences for everyone.
This is a role for someone who enjoys being both deep in the technical details and responsible for the bigger picture.
Technologies You’ll Use
Modern Data Warehouses (Snowflake / Databricks / BigQuery / Redshift), Repositories (GitHub / GitLab / Azure DevOps), Identity Providers (Okta / Entra ID / Google), PrivateLink / Private Service Connect, AWS, Azure, GCP, SQL, SSO, OAuth, Rocketlane
What You’ll Do
Own complex and escalated setup engagements
Lead Guided Setup for our most technically complex, strategically important, and highest-visibility enterprise accounts across all four milestones: data warehouse/repository configuration, SSO, RBAC/SCIM, and user access
Serve as the senior technical escalation point when setup issues threaten onboarding timelines or customer activation, including complex PrivateLink, OAuth, SSO, networking, and identity scenarios
Work directly with customer technical stakeholders and administrators to understand their environment, identify risks, and guide them toward a successful configuration
Anticipate technical blockers early and create clear plans to resolve them before they impact the broader onboarding program
Make sound scoping decisions about what belongs in Guided Setup versus Customer Solutions Engineering, Product, or post-onboarding work
Ensure complex engagements maintain the same high bar for customer experience, documentation, and technical quality as standard setups
Raise the bar for the team
Act as a technical mentor and coach for Cloud Onboarding Architect I/IIs, helping them develop their troubleshooting, platform expertise, and customer-facing skills
Serve as a thought partner for COAs working through technically challenging or ambiguous customer situations
Own and continuously improve the Guided Setup checklist, playbooks, kickoff materials, troubleshooting guidance, and internal documentation
Identify patterns across customer engagements and turn those patterns into repeatable processes, tooling, documentation, or product feedback
Identify recurring setup blockers and drive them toward resolution, whether the underlying fix is a documentation update, process change, enablement opportunity, or product improvement
Help establish and maintain consistent standards for setup quality across the team
Represent setup cross-functionally
Be the primary point of contact into Engineering, Product & Design for setup-related bugs, feature requests, and onboarding UX feedback
Work with Customer Solutions Engineering on the setup/support boundary and on customers struggling to reach utilization post-onboarding
Collaborate with Training on on-demand content for the setup steps that create the most friction for new customers
Contribute setup expertise to Engineering team (EPD/Transport) conversations on PrivateLink and network architecture
Bring the voice of enterprise customers into internal discussions about product usability, administration, security, and onboarding
Use data, customer feedback, and experience from individual engagements to identify opportunities to improve setup time and activation readiness
Skills We’re Looking For
Deep, hands-on experience with dbt (2-3 years minimum) as an account admin and data practitioner, at a level where you're a trusted authority on the platform
Prior experience as a Cloud Onboarding Architect / Implementation Consultant (or directly equivalent role) — this is not an entry point into the setup team
Administrator-level fluency with data warehouses (Snowflake / Databricks / BigQuery / Redshift), repositories (GitHub / GitLab / Azure DevOps), and identity providers (Okta / Entra ID / Google), including SSO, SAML, and OAuth
Track record of mentoring or coaching less experienced teammates on technical and soft skills
Comfort owning ambiguous, cross-functional problems without a clear playbook — and building the playbook yourself
Strong written and verbal communication; able to represent the setup team's perspective to Engineering, Product, and customer executives alike
Ability to tailor consistent white glove setup experiences based on an account’s size and strategic importance
Strong customer judgment and the ability to balance technical correctness with customer timelines and business priorities
Bonus Skills
Experience with PrivateLink or other secure connectivity patterns
Experience contributing to internal enablement content or documentation
Comfort being the technical bridge in between, pre-sales, post-sales, Engineering, and Product
Familiarity with Rocketlane or similar project/time-tracking tools used for onboarding delivery
dbt Architect certified

ABOUT SUPABASE
Supabase is the Postgres development platform, built by developers for developers. We provide a complete backend solution including Database, Auth, Storage, Edge Functions, Realtime, and Vector Search. All services are deeply integrated and designed for growth.
About the Role
We are looking for a Head of AI Native Operations to build the autonomous systems that run Supabase.
Supabase is building an AI-native internal operating system, where agents carry the operational load end to end. We are standing up a new central team to build that platform and run it in production. This is the role that leads it, and it is hands-on. You design the architecture, build the first versions of the critical pieces, and are accountable for whether every agent we run is correct, safe, and improving over time. We build rather than buy, and there are no settled best practices for most of this yet, so you will be setting them.
You will lead a team of senior individual contributors extending the platform and driving adoption across teams.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
In this role, you’ll:
- Own the agent platform architecture: The harness and orchestration layer and connectors into company systems, shared context and memory, and the path from prototype to production.
- Catch regressions before they ship: Model, prompt, and tool changes can’t ship until they pass the evals. When a new model comes out, you know within hours whether to adopt it.
- Make every agent observable: Every run and every decision is traced. For any agent at any time, you can answer what it did, why, what it cost, and how its quality is trending.
- Own safety and trust: Design the controls that let agents act without a human in the loop: least-privilege credentials, hard policy limits, escalation thresholds, audit logs, sandboxing, and prompt-injection defenses.
- Replace workflows, don’t assist them: Pick the workflows agents can fully own today and take them to production.
- Turn wins into a platform: Package what works into reusable components, templates, and eval harnesses so other teams can ship their own production agents without starting from scratch.
- Build and direct the team: Hire and grow senior ICs, review their designs and pull requests, and hold the quality bar.
- Measure what matters: Track workflows automated, eval pass rates, cost per run, and work absorbed against the hiring plan.
How You’ll Think
A Point of View on Where Automation Wins
You have a thesis about how AI and automation change the way a company operates, and it comes from building, not reading. You can look at a business and say which workflows agents can own today, which they will own in 12 months as models improve, and which still need people, and why. You defend that view with evidence from systems you have shipped, and you update it when the evals tell you to.
Eval-Driven
You don’t trust an agent because the demo looked good. You trust it because it passes a test set of real cases, and you know which cases it fails. When anything changes, your first question is “what do the evals say?”
Inversion Thinking
Left alone, an autonomous system tends to fail quietly, or people route around it. So the first question about any agent isn’t “does it work on the happy path?” but “how will this break, and how will we know?” The design follows from that answer: what the agent is never allowed to do, what it escalates, and which alert fires when quality drifts.
Recursive Thinking
Every system you build should produce the evidence that grades it. An agent isn’t done when it works. It’s done when it tells you, without you in the loop, that it has stopped working.
Must Have
- Hands-on agent building: Have personally designed and built autonomous agent or LLM systems that ran in production and that others depended on. Prototypes, demos, and configuring a vendor tool don’t count. You don’t need to be a career software engineer, but you must have built these systems yourself.
- Architecture depth: Can explain how the pieces fit together (orchestration, tool and data access, context and memory, tracing, evals, guardrails, deployment), with opinions on current frameworks.
- Security judgment: Have shipped agents that take real actions with real permissions, and designed the controls that made that safe.
- A tested point of view: Can argue, with examples from your own builds, where autonomous systems create real business leverage and where they don’t yet.
- Technical leadership: Have led senior builders and set the quality bar through design and code review.
Strong Signal
- Have replaced a human-run business workflow (finance, operations, support, release management) end to end with an autonomous system.
- Are native to Git, Markdown, and pull requests, and comfortable reading and writing Python or TypeScript.
- Have taken an internal platform from zero to adoption by teams you did not control.
- A software engineering background is a plus, but not required.
What Success Looks Like
- Six months: 20+ autonomous agents in production on the shared platform, each with an eval suite, tracing, and a named owner.
- Regressions get caught, not discovered: Quality problems surface in an alert or dashboard before a user reports them.
- Workflows replaced, not assisted: Multiple high-volume workflows are fully owned by agents, with humans handling only escalations.
- Trusted by default: No agent causes material financial, security, or customer harm, and every agent’s permissions and actions can be audited.
- Teams ship their own: At least three teams outside the core team run production agents built on the platform.
- Autonomous team: Your two reports work independently, and you spend your time on architecture and review rather than execution.
WHAT WE OFFER
- Fully Remote
We hire globally. We believe you can do your best work from anywhere. There are no Supabase offices, but we provide a WeWork membership or co-working allowance you can use anywhere in the world.
- ESOP

About 1Password
At 1Password, we’re building the foundation for a safe, productive digital future. Our mission is to unleash employee productivity without compromising security by ensuring every identity is authentic, every application sign-in is secure, and every device is trusted. We innovated the market-leading enterprise password manager and pioneered Unified Access Management, a new cybersecurity category built for the way people and AI agents work today. As one of the most loved brands in cybersecurity, we take a human-centric approach in everything from product strategy to user experience. Over 180,000 businesses, from Fortune 100 leaders to the world’s most innovative AI companies, trust 1Password to help their teams securely adopt the SaaS and AI tools they need to do their best work.
If you're excited about the opportunity to contribute to the digital safety of millions, to work alongside a team of curious, driven individuals, and to solve hard problems in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, then we want to hear from you. Come join us and help shape a safer, simpler digital future.
Security isn't a feature at 1Password. It is the product. We're looking for a Principal Product Manager to shape security strategy across the company, working with Security Engineering, who hold one of the highest technical bars in the industry, and with the product teams building everything our customers touch.
You'll be the bridge. You'll understand cryptographic and architectural detail well enough to earn the trust of our security engineers, and you'll translate what matters into clear priorities for feature teams. Just as importantly, you'll bring a deep respect for the customer: a security control nobody can stand to use makes everyone less safe. You'll help us find the design that's both rigorous and usable, and have the credibility to say so in a room full of experts
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Partner with product teams on security early. Work with PMs and feature teams to understand their upcoming roadmaps, identify security requirements and threat-model implications before designs are locked, and make sure those needs are visible, prioritized, and resourced.
- Align Security Engineering with product strategy. Translate feature-team needs into prioritized security work, and make Security Engineering's priorities legible to the rest of the company so tradeoffs are made in the open.
- Own an independent security roadmap. Set direction for platform-level security investments, such as key management and recovery, the cryptographic foundations of our zero-knowledge architecture, authentication, and our long-term readiness for post-quantum cryptography.
- Lead our strategy for the AI era. Define how 1Password approaches agentic access to credentials, secrets for non-human identities and AI agents, and the trust models emerging around tools and protocols like MCP.
- Balance risk and usability with evidence. Help security engineers weigh real-world risk against user friction, using adoption, support, and telemetry data alongside threat models. Shipping with accepted, documented residual risk is sometimes the right call, and you'll help us make and defend those decisions.
- Represent 1Password to the security community. Engage with security researchers and our bug bounty program, speak at conferences, and contribute to the wider conversation about where credential security is heading.
- Raise the bar for product work. Coach PMs on security thinking, challenge assumptions constructively, and set the standard for how security-critical product work gets done.
OUR PHILOSOPHY ON PRODUCT CONSISTS OF FIVE CORE PILLARS:
- Focus and execution: Can you ship quickly and measure results?
- Customer empathy: Are you motivated first and foremost to solve customer problems?
- Effective communication: Can you bring the entire organization, horizontally and vertically, along on the journey?
- Go to market: Can you understand and drive business outcomes through product decisions?
- Technology: Articulating how our technology beats our competitors
Product Managers play a highly visible role at 1Password and are critical to the development and execution of our product strategy. As PMs, we are responsible for setting and championing a high bar for our products. At the Principal level, you also set the standard for how product work gets done. You coach, you challenge assumptions, and you make the whole team better. You must excel at prioritization, collaboration, and communication, while holding yourself and others accountable for measuring quality and business results. You will work with Engineering, Design, Security Research, and GTM teams to ensure every decision we make as a product is grounded in our commitment to verifiable security.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- 10+ years of product management experience, including significant time on security-critical products or platforms in a SaaS environment. We'll also strongly consider exceptional candidates with equivalent depth, such as security engineers or researchers who moved into product.
- Deep, demonstrable knowledge of security fundamentals: cryptography, authentication protocols, identity and access management, zero-knowledge and end-to-end encrypted system design, and threat modeling.
- Fluency in the credential and identity landscape, including passkeys, WebAuthn/FIDO, and the standards shaping how people sign in.
- A track record of earning credibility with security engineering teams, not just working alongside them.
- The ability to read and reason through technical specifications, security audits, and cryptographic design documents.
- Experience making and defending risk-based tradeoffs, and explaining them clearly to engineers, executives, and customers.
- A history of shipping security features that users actually adopt, and of using friction and adoption data to improve them.
- Experience setting strategy at the platform or infrastructure level, and influencing roadmaps you don't own without formal authority.
- Communication that scales from a security research paper to an executive briefing without losing precision in either direction.
- A strong point of view on how the security landscape is shifting, and the ability to connect it to concrete roadmap decisions.
STRONG PLUS
- Standing in the security community, through conference talks, publications, research, open-source work, or standards participation.
- Hands-on experience with AI security: agent identity and authorization, prompt injection, secrets management for automated systems.
- Experience with compliance and certification regimes such as SOC 2, FedRAMP, or FIPS.
- Prior work in vulnerability disclosure, incident response, or threat intelligence that gives you a practitioner's intuition.
- Experience running or working closely with a bug bounty program or researcher community.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
- Working with a passionate, highly motivated Product and Security team that holds an exceptional bar and genuinely cares about getting it right
- A direct line to decisions that shape the security architecture millions of people depend on every day
- Empowerment to set long-term security product strategy and drive it through execution
- A culture where technical depth is respected, tradeoffs are named honestly, and shipping the right thing matters more than shipping fast
- A collaborative environment where the best argument wins, regardless of title

About GiveDirectly
What if the most effective way to fight poverty was also the simplest: give people money and trust them to decide what they need?
Since 2011, GiveDirectly has proven that idea at scale. We’ve delivered more than $1B in cash directly to 2+ million people living in poverty and crisis across 15 countries, and rigorous research shows the results: healthier kids, stronger businesses, sturdier homes, and more resilient families and local economies. Cash is now widely recognized as one of the most scalable, cost-effective, and dignified forms of aid.
Our ambition goes beyond our own programs. We want cash to become the benchmark for aid, much as the index fund became the benchmark for investing, so that every aid dollar is held to one question:
is this doing more good than giving the money directly to people living in poverty?
We’re growing fast, and this is a rare and important moment to join.
We expect to hit $1B in revenue in 2026 with significant growth forecast for 2027. At the same time we are building a new technology stack and operating model designed for a roughly 10x change in scale, and we are actively pursuing partnerships with major funders to move even more money in bigger ways, to people who need it. We are known for our extensive integration of technology into field processes; our quantitative approach to performance measurement; and our commitment to rigorous, independent, experimental evaluation of our impact, with multiple Randomized Control Trials completed and others in progress.
How we work
Our team spans 20+ countries and 69 languages. Our culture is candid, analytical, and non-hierarchical. We expect high ownership and give people real responsibility early. Our values are central to how we hire, work, and grow, and they are deliberately opinionated:
Recipients first.
Recipients’ preferences come before those of donors or ourselves.
Team next.
We optimize for organizational success, not individual success.
Be proactively candid.
We say what we believe and share information openly.
Create positive energy.
We aim to be a source of energy for colleagues, not a drain.
Think rigorously; act quickly.
We reason from first principles, then act rather than debate.
Know yourself and grow.
We own our imperfections and seek feedback to grow.
Accept reality. Propose solutions.
We focus on what can change and bring solutions, not just problems.
Be productively ambitious.
We take risks for step-change impact, not incremental progress.
If they describe how you like to work and they energize you, this could be a great fit.

Role overview:
GiveDirectly Malawi has grown steadily since its introduction in 2019 and in 2025 launched our most ambitious program and research agenda yet, delivering funds across an entire district alongside the largest-ever randomized trial on unconditional cash.
The Admin. Operations Manager runs the administrative engine of the country office. They are accountable for the functions every team depends on but few see: vendor and casual labour payments, petty cash, office premises and security oversight, field and office assets management, transport and logistics, visitor coordination, and regulatory compliance. When these work, programs move. When they slip, the cost lands on recipients, staff and vendors alike.
The Admin. Operations Manager is a people manager first. They lead a cross-site team of associates and support staff, and they are expected to build capability, not just allocate tasks. They work in close partnership with the Procurement & Warehousing Manager, with Finance on payments and reconciliations, and with the Programs team on the logistics that field operations require. They advise the Operations Director and Country Director on administrative planning, budget and process improvement.
Responsibilities:
Payments, petty cash and expense management
Own the end-to-end payment cycle for vendors, contractors and casual labour: validate invoice and timesheet authenticity, match each to goods or services actually received, assemble the full documentation pack, check the ledger for duplicates, and submit through the agreed payment request workflow.
Hold the team to a standing target of no overdue supplier invoices.
Apply the correct withholding and statutory tax treatment to each payment, and share filing proof with the payments team.
Follow payments through to settlement with Finance, maintain the payables tracker, and reconcile vendor accounts and payment discrepancies.
Run the petty cash cycle end to end — float request, retirement with receipts and memo, review and complete documentation — and produce the month-end cash count certificate.
Train staff across the country office on the payment and expense systems and on documenting expenditure correctly.
Office premises, facilities and security
Oversee upkeep of the country and field offices, liaising with landlords on maintenance, and maintain the utilities, connectivity and supplies the office needs to operate without interruption.
Scope and secure field office locations as programs require, furnish them to standard within the agreed lead time, and manage relocation and closure.
Manage office access and guard services, holding providers to the agreed scope of service.
Act as the office focal point for day-to-day safety and security practice, and escalate incidents in line with policy.
Provide and maintain a safe work environment, including adequate first aid facilities and protective equipment for field staff, as per GD standards or national regulations.
Office and field asset management
Maintain a complete register of office and field assets — equipment, furniture, IT hardware and general supplies — updated monthly with new purchases, movements and disposals, with all assets tagged, allocated and tracked.
Conduct quarterly asset verification against the register and report exceptions.
Enforce staff protocols on handling and safe storage of GD property, and recover and reallocate assets when staff exit or projects close.
Forecast asset replacement, run the annual disposal cycle, and manage disposal of obsolete, damaged, lost or stolen assets with the required documentation and approvals.
Procure and maintain insurance coverage for office assets and vehicles, and manage claims.
Transport, logistics and visitor coordination
Oversee the office vehicle fleet and the Logistics Officers who operate it, including scheduling, maintenance, fuel management and cost control against the field transport budget.
Coordinate staff travel — flights, accommodation and ground transport — and oversee logistics for high-priority visitors.
Lead on visas and permits for GiveDirectly visitors and employees, and prepare supporting and invitation letters for visa applications.
Coordinate transport of materials and staff to field locations.
Support office functions and team events, including retreats and field-site logistics.
Team leadership and capability building
Lead the administration team across the country office and every field base: coordination, prioritisation, coaching, and quality assurance of deliverables.
Supervise office facilities and support staff — cleaners, catering staff and Logistics Officers — to maintain an orderly and functional office.
Hire, onboard and performance-manage direct reports, including verifying timesheets, leave and attendance.
Complete Quarterly Development Discussions (QDDs) for all direct reports on the global performance cycle, using them to set development goals and track progress.
Ensure SOPs and templates are in place, understood and used consistently across all sites.
Enable rapid scale-up: for each new field office, recruit and orient the Field Admin Associate, cleaners and transport support needed for the site to open on time.
Systems, risk and compliance
Improve back-office systems — payments workflow, records, office administration — so they support delivery at scale rather than constraining it.
Assess resource and capacity gaps across the administration function on an ongoing basis and plan ahead to fill them.
Maintain compliance with GiveDirectly policy, donor requirements, the code of conduct and Malawian regulation, implementing preventive controls and fixing process weaknesses before they become findings.
Build expertise within the team on the national and local regulatory environment and compliance requirements.
Support Finance and Internal Audit through review processes, providing payment and asset documentation, reconciling discrepancies and closing out findings.
Lead development of the annual administration budget under the guidance of the Operations Director, review actual against planned spend, and flag variances early.
Advise the Operations Director and Country Director on administrative planning and process improvement.
Desired qualifications:
5-7 years of work experience in office administration, operations or business support roles, including experience owning a payments or financial administration function.
Bachelors/Masters in business administration, management or a relevant field.
Strong alignment with GD values, and active demonstration of our core competencies: emotional intelligence, problem solving, project management, follow-through, and fostering inclusivity.
Experienced people manager with demonstrated ability to deliver results through others and set up strong management processes, ideally across multiple sites.
Sound working knowledge of payment processing, invoice validation, statutory tax treatment and basic financial controls.
Exceptional ability to logic through complex operational questions & run robust analyses to inform management and programming decisions.
Exceptional written & verbal communication skills to be deployed for a range of audiences (field teams, local and global leadership teams, regulatory authorities, service providers etc.).
Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative management style.
Enthusiasm for fast-paced environments, which may lack a pre-defined playbook for success and involve significant "learning by doing".
Fluency in English and Chichewa, and willingness to travel to field sites within Malawi.
