At ClickUp, we're building the future of work: the first truly converged AI workspace unifying tasks, docs, chat, calendar, and enterprise search, all supercharged by context-driven AI. We are an AI-native company. Every team member is expected to leverage AI daily, and we evaluate AI fluency as part of our hiring process. Join us and help redefine what's possible. 🚀
We’re looking for a Technical Implementation Account Manager (TAM) to support our customers as a trusted partner and problem-solver, blending strong relationship management with a growing understanding of ClickUp’s platform and capabilities. This role sits at the intersection of customer success, solution strategy, and technical enablement, contributing to long-term growth, adoption, and measurable business outcomes. This role operates in an AI-native environment, and we expect TAMs at this level to use AI tools as a daily multiplier across account preparation, workflow analysis, solution design, follow-through, and customer enablement.
TAMs at this level manage a defined book of business and own day-to-day execution for their accounts, while working closely with more senior TAMs and cross-functional partners on complex initiatives. You’ll use established frameworks, playbooks, and templates to guide onboarding and adoption, monitor account health, and help ensure stakeholders see continuous value throughout their lifecycle. At the L04 level, success means not just understanding AI-enabled features, but showing sound judgment in when and how to use AI to improve execution quality, speed, and customer outcomes.
Technical Account Managers are responsible for delivering measurable value and driving meaningful business outcomes across their customer portfolio by focusing on:
- Customer Enablement & Onboarding: Supporting customers through onboarding and implementation for assigned customers, following established discovery frameworks and implementation plans.
- Account Health & Engagement: Monitoring adoption and account health within your book, executing standard plays to drive engagement, and escalating risks appropriately.
- Process Optimization & Solution Design: Collaborating with customers to understand key workflows and configure ClickUp solutions using established best practices, templates, and guidance from senior TAMs.
- Innovation Adoption & Workflow Automation: Guiding customers in adopting relevant features, including AI and automation, primarily by implementing standard patterns and documented workflows to improve efficiency and outcomes.
- AI-Native Execution: Using AI in your own day-to-day workflow to synthesize discovery, accelerate account preparation, improve documentation quality, draft clearer recommendations, and increase the consistency and speed of customer follow-through while maintaining strong judgment and accuracy.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
New Customer Onboarding
- Support end-to-end onboarding and implementation of ClickUp for assigned customers using established discovery frameworks, templates, and project plans.
- Translate functional and technical requirements into ClickUp solutions for standard use cases under the guidance of more senior TAMs when needed.
- Guide customers through setup, integrations, and change management fundamentals, escalating complex scenarios appropriately.
- Use AI-assisted workflows where appropriate to prepare for discovery, summarize implementation decisions, and improve the speed and quality of customer follow-up.
Account Health Management
- Monitor health for your book of business, including utilization, key feature adoption, and champion/stakeholder engagement.
- Execute standard adoption plays and account review cadences to maintain or improve health, leveraging existing playbooks and frameworks.
- Identify risks early and partner with senior TAMs and account teams to build and execute recovery plans.
- Run recurring meetings with your accounts, sharing usage summaries, recommended next steps, and capturing follow-ups.
- Connect AI adoption, automation usage, and workflow improvements to measurable customer outcomes such as efficiency gains, stakeholder adoption, and expansion signals.
Workflow Mapping (IER Framework)
- Conduct Intake → Execution → Reporting (IER) cycles for core customer workflows using established discovery guides and templates.
- Recommend optimizations based on documented best practices and apply workflow templates to support scale and consistency.
- Maintain clear documentation of customer workflows, data models, and configuration decisions following team standards.
- Use AI to help analyze repetitive workflow patterns, identify process friction, and sharpen recommendations — while validating outputs before using them with customers.
AI Enablement & Agent Deployment
- Support adoption of ClickUp AI across relevant customer workflows by configuring and testing standard AI workflows and automations aligned to published best practices.
- Provide training and consultation on how to use existing AI and automation patterns; escalate novel or complex use cases to senior TAMs or specialists.
- Track and report AI usage and credit consumption against plan, surfacing straightforward opportunities to deepen adoption.
- Evaluate AI-generated outputs for accuracy, usefulness, and business relevance before sharing recommendations or enabling them in customer workflows.
- Help customers move from feature awareness to practical workflow transformation by identifying where AI can remove manual work, improve reporting quality, or speed execution in repeatable ways.
Customer Success & Expansion
- Serve as the technical partner for assigned accounts, connecting usage to business value using established value frameworks and artifacts.
- Identify expansion signals (e.g., usage patterns, feature interest) and pass qualified leads and insights to the account team for follow-up.
- Collaborate with Sales and Customer Success to support renewals, expansions, and AI upsells, aligning your work to the broader account strategy.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with account teams, Product, and Services to maintain alignment between delivery and success for your accounts.
- Share customer feedback and insights to improve delivery and customer experience, focusing on clear problem statements and reproducible examples.
- Collaborate with more senior TAMs and internal stakeholders on complex initiatives, contributing execution and customer context.
CORE SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:
Technical Acumen
Solid understanding of ClickUp platform capabilities, automation logic, integrations, and AI Agent functionality, with a focus on applying documented solutions to customer use cases. Learns and adopts new features and patterns quickly.
AI Expertise
Uses AI and Agents as a daily multiplier, not just an area of awareness. Comfortable with generative AI concepts, prompt design, and automation frameworks, and able to show examples of AI improving work quality, speed, or consistency in a customer-facing environment. Able to implement standard AI use cases and identify when to bring in senior partners for more complex or novel scenarios.
Consultative Discovery
Strong at workflow analysis for core, well-understood processes. Uses structured discovery guides to identify friction points and map customer needs into ClickUp using existing best practices.
Project & Program Management
Strong project and time management for your account load. Able to juggle multiple accounts and workstreams with regular check-ins and guidance from your manager or senior TAMs.
Data & Reporting
Comfortable using dashboards and metrics to communicate health, adoption, and ROI at the account level. Interprets usage data to support clear, actionable recommendations within established frameworks.
Customer Engagement
Executive presence and strong communication skills, with an emphasis on clarity, expectation setting, and follow-through. Builds trust with customer stakeholders by reliably executing agreed plans.
Account Ownership
Accountable for day-to-day execution for your book of business: proactive in follow-through, organized, and focused on achieving measurable outcomes while escalating higher-risk or highly strategic decisions.
Collaboration & Influence
Works cross-functionally with account teams, Product, and Sales to align on outcomes. Influences through clear data, customer stories, and consistent execution, while relying on senior leaders for major strategic decisions and escalations.
AI-NATIVE CANDIDATE EXPECTATIONS:
- Can demonstrate examples of using AI tools, prompts, automations, or agent-assisted workflows to improve personal productivity, customer delivery quality, or workflow outcomes.
- Can speak concretely about where AI added value, where human judgment was still required, and how success was measured.
- For this level, we are looking for evidence of strong applied AI fluency in execution — not necessarily novel model development or highly complex custom agent architecture.
INTERVIEW SIGNAL:
BE PREPARED TO WALK THROUGH HOW YOU USE AI IN YOUR WORK. OUR INTERVIEW PROCESS WILL ASSESS PRACTICAL AI CAPABILITY, INCLUDING HOW YOU APPLY AI TO WORKFLOW ANALYSIS, CUSTOMER EXECUTION, JUDGMENT, AGENTIC WORKFLOWS, AND MEASURABLE OUTCOMES.

Job Type
Full-time
Job Summary
This is a rare 0→1 opportunity to build a high-scale financial platform from the ground up within a profitable, established ecosystem. While most fintechs spend years struggling to find customers, this team already has massive distribution at the point of company formation. We are looking for a hands-on Founding Engineer to bridge the gap between company incorporation and global financial operations by building a neobank-style platform that handles everything from KYC and multi-currency accounts to complex money movement and card issuing. You will own the architecture and technical direction of a product that helps international founders launch and scale their businesses globally.
Key Responsibilities
Architect and build core financial infrastructure including KYC/KYB workflows, ledger systems, and transaction state machines.
Design and implement integrations with regulated banking partners, card issuers, and payment rails (ACH, Wires, FX).
Develop provider-agnostic systems that allow the platform to integrate multiple financial partners without vendor lock-in.
Build robust, secure APIs and data models capable of handling complex reconciliation and event processing.
Manage the full lifecycle of feature development, from initial database schema design to production deployment and internal compliance tooling.
Work directly with the founders to translate product goals into scalable technical solutions and engineering standards.
Requirements
3–8+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong backend or full-stack fundamentals.
Proven track record of building production-grade APIs and distributed systems.
Mastery of database design, data modeling, and asynchronous workflows (queues, events, retries, and idempotency).
A high degree of engineering judgment; you understand when to build for scale and when to optimize for speed.
Exceptional ownership mentality—you are comfortable taking a problem and a goal and figuring out the path to completion independently.
Highly hands-on approach with a desire to write production code daily in a fast-moving, early-stage environment.
Nice-to-Haves
Direct experience in fintech, neobanking, or payments (specifically ledgers, reconciliation, or money movement).
Background at high-growth financial technology companies such as Stripe, Adyen, Airwallex, Brex, or similar infrastructure providers.
Familiarity with the regulatory nuances of KYC/KYB and international banking infrastructure.
Experience building multi-currency or FX-heavy platforms.
Benefits
💰 Milestone-based compensation
🌎 Fully remote and flexible work environment
🚀 High-impact founding role with 0→1 ownership
📈 Direct influence over architecture and technical direction
🎯 Opportunity to build on top of an already profitable platform

Job Summary
This is a rare 0→1 opportunity to build a financial platform from the ground up within an established and profitable ecosystem.
We are looking for a highly hands-on Founding Fintech Engineer – Banking & Payments who has previously built serious financial infrastructure and now wants significantly more ownership.
You will work directly with the founders and alongside an existing technical developer to architect and build a neobank-style platform spanning business onboarding, KYC/KYB, accounts, payments, cards, FX, ledgers, reconciliation, and money movement.
This is not a traditional engineering management position. We are looking for a strong individual contributor or technical lead who remains deeply technical, enjoys writing production code, and is comfortable solving difficult problems without an established playbook.
As one of the earliest engineers on the financial product, you will have substantial influence over architecture, technology choices, financial domain models, provider integrations, engineering standards, and eventually the team built around the platform.
Key Responsibilities
Architect and build core financial infrastructure, including accounts, balances, ledgers, KYC/KYB workflows, transaction state machines, and reconciliation systems.
Design and implement integrations with regulated banking partners, card issuers, payment providers, and payment rails including ACH, wires, international payments, and FX.
Build provider-independent architecture that enables integration with multiple banks and financial infrastructure partners without creating dependency on a single provider.
Develop secure, reliable financial APIs and data models capable of supporting complex transaction and money-movement workflows.
Build asynchronous systems involving queues, events, retries, idempotency, exception handling, and transaction processing.
Develop card issuing and card management integrations alongside multi-currency and FX functionality.
Build internal operations, compliance, permissions, limits, and approval tooling.
Own systems and features end-to-end, from architecture and database design through implementation, testing, deployment, and production operation.
Work directly with the founders to translate business and product requirements into pragmatic technical solutions.
Establish engineering standards and technical foundations that can support the future engineering team.
Take initiative in ambiguous situations and independently identify solutions to complex technical and product problems.
Requirements
3–8+ years of professional software engineering experience with excellent backend or full-stack fundamentals.
Strong hands-on experience building production-grade APIs, backend services, and distributed systems.
Proven experience working on complex systems where reliability, consistency, and data integrity are critical.
Strong database architecture, data modeling, and system design skills.
Experience with asynchronous workflows, including queues, events, retries, idempotency, and failure handling.
Strong engineering judgment and the ability to balance speed, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
Demonstrated experience owning technical systems or major product areas end-to-end.
Strong product instincts and an ability to translate ambiguous requirements into working software.
Comfortable operating in a fast-moving, early-stage or 0→1 environment.
A natural technical leader who takes initiative without needing a large team or established processes.
Highly hands-on and genuinely excited to continue writing and shipping production code.
Nice-to-Haves
Significant hands-on experience within fintech, neobanking, banking infrastructure, payments, or financial technology.
Experience building core banking, payment, ledger, card, FX, reconciliation, or money-movement infrastructure.
Previous experience as an individual contributor or technical lead at a leading fintech, neobank, payments company, or financial infrastructure provider.
Background at companies similar to Revolut, Wise, Monzo, N26, Nubank, Brex, Stripe, Plaid, Airwallex, Nium, Razorpay, Adyen, Checkout.com, PayPal, Column, or Modern Treasury.
Experience designing financial ledgers, transaction state machines, or reconciliation systems.
Familiarity with KYC/KYB, compliance workflows, and regulated banking integrations.
Experience with card issuing or payment-processing infrastructure.
Experience building multi-currency or FX-heavy financial products.
Experience integrating multiple banking or financial infrastructure providers into a single platform.
Previous experience joining an engineering organization early and helping take a product from 0→1.

About GiveDirectly
What if the most effective way to fight poverty was also the simplest: give people money and trust them to decide what they need?
Since 2011, GiveDirectly has proven that idea at scale. We’ve delivered more than $1B in cash directly to 2+ million people living in poverty and crisis across 15 countries, and rigorous research shows the results: healthier kids, stronger businesses, sturdier homes, and more resilient families and local economies. Cash is now widely recognized as one of the most scalable, cost-effective, and dignified forms of aid.
Our ambition goes beyond our own programs. We want cash to become the benchmark for aid, much as the index fund became the benchmark for investing, so that every aid dollar is held to one question:
is this doing more good than giving the money directly to people living in poverty?
We’re growing fast, and this is a rare and important moment to join.
We expect to hit $1B in revenue in 2026 with significant growth forecast for 2027. At the same time we are building a new technology stack and operating model designed for a roughly 10x change in scale, and we are actively pursuing partnerships with major funders to move even more money in bigger ways, to people who need it. We are known for our extensive integration of technology into field processes; our quantitative approach to performance measurement; and our commitment to rigorous, independent, experimental evaluation of our impact, with multiple Randomized Control Trials completed and others in progress.
How we work
Our team spans 20+ countries and 69 languages. Our culture is candid, analytical, and non-hierarchical. We expect high ownership and give people real responsibility early. Our values are central to how we hire, work, and grow, and they are deliberately opinionated:
Recipients first.
Recipients’ preferences come before those of donors or ourselves.
Team next.
We optimize for organizational success, not individual success.
Be proactively candid.
We say what we believe and share information openly.
Create positive energy.
We aim to be a source of energy for colleagues, not a drain.
Think rigorously; act quickly.
We reason from first principles, then act rather than debate.
Know yourself and grow.
We own our imperfections and seek feedback to grow.
Accept reality. Propose solutions.
We focus on what can change and bring solutions, not just problems.
Be productively ambitious.
We take risks for step-change impact, not incremental progress.
If they describe how you like to work and they energize you, this could be a great fit.

HEALTH CAN’T WAIT.
Not for symptoms to get worse. Not for a six‑month appointment. Not for a system to catch up. But that’s exactly how healthcare works today. You wait, until you can’t.
Alan exists to end the wait.
Health is a universal right, and we believe this right can only become real when it’s coupled with prevention. We need to stop treating health as something we repair and start treating it as something we build, every day. It’s not solely a question of willpower. It’s the healthcare system itself that needs to work for everyone, in a sustainable way.
So we are building the new standard in prevention insurance. Alan is the first company that integrates insurance, prevention, and care into a single, acclaimed user experience.
We are on an incredible journey to build a global leading company, with a unique culture https://alan.com/en/careers. We already partner with 40K+ companies of all sizes, serving more than 1M+ members, and have reached €800M+ in ARR.
Prevention as the new norm. That's what we're building with our team of 1000+ people. If it speaks to you: we're hiring across France, Spain, Belgium, and Canada. And beyond.
MISSION
Alan is scaling internationally (800+ employees, 100+ healthcare professionals, 5+ countries) and needs IT Engineers to build and own the internal technology platform every Alaner works on: identity and provisioning, endpoint and SaaS security, the tooling behind our clinics, and the automation that keeps IT from scaling linearly with headcount.
The scope below is what the team owns, not a checklist for one person. You'll be staffed on one or two of these areas at a time, according to your strengths and interests, and it will evolve through time based on company needs and personal appetite.
Staying close to users keeps us building the right things: you'll spend up to one day a week on IT support, seeing first-hand where friction lives and what's worth automating next.
SCOPE
⚙️ PLATFORM & AUTOMATION
- Own and extend automations on Alan Home, our internal provisioning engine
- Maintain, extend and improve helpdesk automation, SaaS provisioning flows, and onboarding/offboarding pipelines
- Own the meeting room AV and room-booking platform as a product, replicable across offices
🔑 IDENTITY & ACCESS
- Own the IT side of the employee lifecycle (onboarding, offboarding, mobility between jobs and countries) across Google Workspace, SSO/SAML and our SaaS ecosystem.
- Grow our role-based access model: extend it to more tools and refine the permission groups, so access is granted by role rather than case by case
- Make employee lifecycle events reliable, fast and auditable end-to-end
- Own access reviews and least-privilege models; produce and maintain the evidence our auditors rely on
- Own SaaS procurement and license management: vendor relationships, renewals, and cost optimization across our stack
🔒 ENDPOINT & SAAS SECURITY
- Own the Mac fleet in Kandji: enrollment at scale, role-based blueprints, fleet compliance
- Cloudflare WARP, SaaS security controls
- Maintain and strengthen our ISO 27001 certification and drive ACPR and pentest remediation on the endpoint and platform scope
🩺 HEALTH PROFESSIONALS IT
- The IT layer behind Alan's clinics: practitioner tooling, equipment, access
- Role and permission automation for healthcare professionals, and their support and escalation process
🌍 INTERNATIONALISATION
- Make international expansion something IT accelerates, not something it slows down: a repeatable process where every new market (Canada, KSA, Armenia...) launches on our standard stack from day one
- Bring acquired entities onto that same platform
MILESTONES
First 3 months
- Acquire technical knowledge on Alan's platform: Alan Home, Google Workspace/SSO, Kandji, Cloudflare WARP
- Take one project end-to-end and ship a first increment
- Join the IT oncall team as technical escalation
First 6 months
- Own a workstream end-to-end
- Deliver one automation or hardening initiative end-to-end
- Take up documentation and automation on your scope and reduce significantly the bus factor on it
- Mentor IT teammates on your core expertise
First year
- Deliver measurable IT toil reduction on your scope
- Set the technical standards on your domain: how we build, document and review it
- Build strong cross-functional partnerships (Engineering, Security, Workplace, Clinic, People, Audit)
- Contribute to hiring and onboarding new teammates
3 years
- Lead major projects end-to-end across several communities
- Be the reference the team relies on across at least two domains
- Mentor the IT team and beyond, and scale IT without a linear increase in manual work
As the community grows, there is room to take on more responsibility: leading a crew, owning cross-community projects, mentoring, hiring.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Must-have - Technical/hard skills:
- 3+ years in IT engineering, platform, systems or corporate engineering, with real ownership of production-facing systems
- Depth in at least one area (platform & automation, identity, endpoint & security) and demonstrated range beyond it.
- You write code: not as a full-time software engineer, but Python, APIs and pull requests in a shared repo should feel normal
- Structured problem-solving: diagnoses methodically, asks the right clarifying questions, thinks about failure modes and rollback
- Comfort with regulated environments: health data, ACPR, ISO 27001, HDS
- Automation & AI appetite: uses AI tools smartly to accelerate their own delivery, with an instinct for what should be automated or delegated to AI rather than repeated
Must-have - Behavioral / soft skills:
- Ownership & autonomy: drives topics forward without hand-holding, including when they cross into someone else's perimeter
- Written communication: Alan is written-first; decisions get argued in public documents and challenged by people outside your team
- Pragmatic judgment: balances "perfect" vs. "good enough", decides with incomplete information
- Documentation culture: reduces bus factor through clear documentation and knowledge sharing
Nice-to-have skills / Bonus points if you have:
- Experience with an internal provisioning or IdP-driven automation platform
- Kandji or another MDM at scale
- Cloudflare Zero Trust / WARP, Datadog
- Audit remediation experience (ISO 27001, HDS)
- Multi-country rollouts, or IT integration after an acquisition
- Having mentored, coached or led a (small) crew
- Health or healthtech ecosystem familiarity

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Infrastructure team builds and operates the foundational systems behind Perplexity’s products. At Perplexity, infrastructure sits on the critical path of every answer, supporting real-time search, retrieval, model serving, and agent workloads where latency, reliability, and rapid iteration directly shape the user experience. This role is for strong infrastructure engineers whose experience spans multiple domains and who are energized by cross-cutting problems that do not fit neatly within a single platform team.
You do not need to be a specialist in every area. Scope ranges from owning major production systems to setting technical direction across teams, leading complex infrastructure programs, and shaping infrastructure strategy across the organization. If a specialized Cloud Infrastructure, Storage Platform, Backend Platform, Data Platform, Connector Platform, or AI Acceleration role clearly matches your expertise and interests, apply directly to it. If your experience spans several infrastructure domains or you are most energized by cross-cutting systems problems, apply here. Submit one application, and we will consider you across the Infrastructure organization.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own cross-cutting infrastructure problems that span compute, storage, networking, data, deployment, and reliability, including eliminating bottlenecks across retrieval and serving paths, building shared abstractions across deployment environments, and resolving failure modes that cross platform boundaries.
- Design, build, and operate distributed infrastructure supporting Perplexity’s consumer, AI, and enterprise workloads, owning systems from architecture through production operation.
- Identify gaps between existing platforms and build shared abstractions, automation, and tooling that make infrastructure easier and safer to use.
- Improve system performance, availability, scalability, and cost-efficiency across online request traffic and background workloads.
- Debug complex production issues across service and infrastructure boundaries, then turn the findings into durable architectural improvements.
- Set technical direction for complex infrastructure systems, lead high-impact programs across teams, and establish durable technical standards through collaboration with infrastructure, product, AI, and security partners.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 4+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating production backend, platform, or distributed systems.
- A track record of owning complex production systems end to end and delivering sustained technical impact across teams.
- Demonstrated ability to set technical direction, lead through influence, and raise the engineering bar through architecture, design reviews, and mentorship.
- Strong software engineering skills in Python or other systems or backend languages such as Go, Rust, C++, or Java.
- Meaningful experience across at least two infrastructure domains, such as cloud platforms, distributed systems, Kubernetes, storage, databases, networking, data systems, developer infrastructure, or production reliability.
- Ability to develop depth quickly in unfamiliar systems, reason across software and infrastructure layers, and drive production incidents from diagnosis through durable resolution.
If you’re excited about this role, we encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn’t match every qualification listed above.

Platform owns the
foundation
the company runs on: compute and deployment, reliability and on-call, CI/CD and monorepo health, developer environments, the infrastructure that model training and inference run on, and the security boundaries around all of it.
AI and agent tooling is the clearest example. You will contribute to how models are trained and served here, as well as how agents work inside our codebase: the environments they run in, the verification that makes their output trustworthy, and the review paths that keep it all legible. There is no industry standard and you’ll help form our opinions rather than inheriting one.
Our users are other engineers. Expect to spend time with all the other engineering teams, understanding their needs and building a roadmap. The scope is large, so you'll be choosing what to leave alone as much as build.
Architecture decisions here last: this is a small team covering a large surface. You'll have real room to decide things, and you'll stay close to the systems you decide about.
What you'll own
Own our platform:
GCP, Kubernetes, Temporal, the GPU fleet behind cloud export, and the deploy and rollback machinery everything ships through. You'll be in the on-call rotation, and we'll expect you to make it quieter and more actionable.
The AI enablement substrate:
GPU capacity, training and inference pipelines, and the reliability and cost of the systems serving models in production.
Cost is an engineering constraint:
infrastructure decisions have a number attached and you're expected to make smart trade-offs. As inference grows with usage, the metering and attribution behind those numbers sit with this team.
Security comes with the systems you run
: identity and access, secrets management, least-privilege boundaries, and supply-chain integrity.
Make what you build legible.
Infrastructure-as-code that explains itself. Runbooks and in-repo context written for someone jumping in to help. Observability that tells you what failed and why.
Improve how the team learns and ships.
Form hypotheses, instrument your work, release incrementally, and read results honestly. Strengthen the tooling, standards, tests, observability, and release practices that help the team move quickly without compromising quality.
Raise the team’s technical ambition.
Provide architectural direction, thoughtful reviews, mentoring, and clear human writing.
What you bring
Required:
You have 8+ years building and operating production distributed systems, or equivalent server-side engineering with a heavy infrastructure focus.
You effectively leverage agents to multiply your impact and think critically about how and when to harness AI in your work.
You've run systems where failure was expensive, and your opinions about reliability and deployment come from consequences rather than reading.
You've carried a pager, commanded an incident, and rolled back before you understood why.
You use SLOs and error budgets as operating tools.
You’ve used a major cloud provider and Kubernetes in production, with infrastructure-as-code as your default.
You've owned an architecture or migration, from planning through launch, whose consequences outlived the project, and you can say what you'd do differently.
You've found important unowned work, scoped it, earned buy-in, and delivered it without being handed a spec.
You build a minimal repro, read the logs, and write targeted checks to prove a fix works instead of trusting output.
Experience that helps:
GPU and ML infrastructure:
capacity planning, training or inference pipelines, serving cost and latency. If you haven't run a GPU fleet, experience with expensive capacity-constrained systems transfers well.
Production security engineering:
IAM, secrets, supply chain, least privilege. You don't need to have held a security title, but you should have owned these boundaries for systems you ran.
Cloud cost modeling:
commitment strategy, reservations, unit economics.
CI/CD:
at monorepo scale, and developer-environment work.
Intricacies of Video:
Media, video, or GPU-backed workloads.
Small teams owning a large surface:
whether at a Series B to D company or on an internal platform team.
Descript is a startup. We’re especially interested in working with engineers who use the product and are aligned with our mission. To that end, we promise to review any application that includes a share link to a Descript video. The video can be about anything - your career, a favorite game or movie, a discarded audition tape for Love Island. If you take the time to make something in Descript, we’ll commit to having a human watch it and review your application. 🤝
Compensation and benefits
Base salary: $220,000 to $292,000, plus equity and benefits. Final offer amounts will carefully consider multiple factors, including prior experience, expertise, location, and level, and may vary from the amount above.

GiveWell’s mission is to help people in need as much as we can by researching the most cost‑effective ways to save and improve lives, sharing our work openly, and directing donations to the programs we believe will do the most good. Our work, which focuses on global health and well-being, is funded by tens of thousands of donors who rely on our research to inform their giving. We’ve grown from directing $1.5 million in 2010 to directing more than $400 million in 2025. We anticipate our total grantmaking is likely to approach or even exceed $1 billion this year, and we are working toward a future that could be several times that scale. Through years of deliberate groundwork, we’ve been growing our research capacity and scope in order to direct substantially more funding to the most impactful opportunities we can find.
We’re hiring a Senior Communications Officer, Media & Public Affairs to lead how GiveWell’s work is represented in the media and in public conversations. You will set our strategy, build trusted relationships with journalists and other influential voices, pursue opportunities that increase understanding of GiveWell’s work, and lead our external response in fast-moving situations.
This role will lead a small and growing team. This is one of three new communications leadership roles, alongside a
Senior Communications Officer, Strategic Communications
and a
Senior Communications Officer, Editorial & Production
.
About the role
Both
our research and impact are expanding
. Last year, we directed more than $400 million to highly cost-effective programs that save and improve lives. This year, we expect our grantmaking to approach, and possibly exceed, $1 billion.
To build toward the communications capacity this next stage requires, we are rapidly expanding our team. The three Senior Communications Officers will work together on many projects to support GiveWell’s communications needs, while working closely with other leaders across our organization. Each leader will own their function, but much of the work that matters most—like team strategies, major initiatives, partnership campaigns, and how we present the organization as a whole—will involve all three. We will expect this group to set shared priorities and work closely together to achieve the team’s goals.
In this hands-on leadership position, you’ll own how and where GiveWell engages in media and public conversations, with end-to-end responsibility for this emerging function. You’ll set its strategy, hire and develop its people, build its systems, and personally own its hardest and most consequential work. This is an opportunity to build, not just inherit, an important function at a critical point in GiveWell’s development. You’ll start with a small team and grow it over time.
While this role is set at the Senior Communications Officer level, we may consider hiring an exceptional candidate as a Communications Director—with greater expectations, responsibilities, and compensation.
What You'll Do
As Senior Communications Officer, Media & Public Affairs, you will combine long-term strategy and relationship-building with the ability to respond quickly and exercise sound judgment in sensitive or fast-moving situations.
Specific duties will include:
Set GiveWell’s strategy across media, thought-leader engagement, online communities, public forums and events, and other earned communications opportunities—including deciding where and when GiveWell should participate and overseeing those engagements.
Build and maintain high-trust relationships with journalists, editors, podcast hosts, event organizers, thought leaders, subject-matter experts, and other influential external stakeholders.
Identify, develop, and pitch substantive stories, event opportunities, and thought-leadership ideas that extend understanding of GiveWell’s work.
Own inbound media engagement, including situations that require rapid responses, close coordination with subject-matter experts, and careful judgment about what GiveWell can responsibly say—and about which responses need escalation.
Build and maintain GiveWell’s readiness for sensitive or fast-moving situations, monitor emerging issues in media and public conversations, and lead our external response when needed in partnership with others.
Advise GiveWell’s leadership on external opportunities and relationships, and prepare senior leaders and subject-matter experts for interviews, speaking engagements, and other public appearances.
Exercise sound judgment about when and how GiveWell should enter public conversations, including evaluating likely value, reputational considerations, and communications risks.
Evaluate and help shape public-facing communications partnerships, advising on which opportunities GiveWell should pursue and how we should participate.
Serve as a spokesperson for GiveWell in select media interviews, events, and other public forums, communicating our perspective clearly, accurately, and with sound judgment.
Work with grantees and other partners on press releases and other media-facing communications involving GiveWell or our shared work.
Manage and develop one or two team members initially, and build the relationships, systems, and additional capacity the function will need over time.
About You
You are skilled at using communications to help people understand complex ideas, build trust, and take action. You are comfortable being accountable for outcomes, making consequential decisions with limited oversight, and knowing which decisions genuinely require escalation.
You are energized by intellectually demanding work, and the challenges of creating engaging communications within a careful and precise style. You can engage deeply with GiveWell’s research, and you are comfortable understanding and communicating about data in detail. You have a long track record of getting up to speed quickly on complex subject matter and carefully communicating to a very high standard. You can build a compelling narrative that is entirely factual, representing what is known and unknown without overstating or hedging into vagueness—and you find the idea of working with GiveWell’s exacting communications standards exciting rather than limiting.
Your background includes significant experience leading communications in complex, high-stakes environments. This should include 10+ years of experience in media relations, thought leadership, and public engagement. You have deep experience owning that work end to end, not just contributing to it. You’ve remained a hands-on leader who enjoys the work itself, as well as the strategy and systems behind it.
You know how journalists, influential voices, events, and other public forums shape how organizations and ideas are understood. You have a demonstrated ability to build meaningful external relationships, identify opportunities worth pursuing, personally represent an organization’s perspective, and navigate public-facing situations in which context is limited, timelines are short, and judgment matters. Much of this should be work you executed yourself, in addition to work you directed. Experience in settings where precision and credibility were at least as important as reach is a strong signal of fit.
In addition to demonstrated expertise in the duties listed above, you should have:
Exceptional communications judgment, including the ability to understand audience, context, risk, timing, and the underlying substance of a message.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to quickly make complex ideas clear and compelling without sacrificing rigor or nuance.
A track record of building and leading: you have created or substantially rebuilt a team or function—not only run ones you inherited—and you have hired, developed, and managed people.
Recent, hands-on excellence at your craft: you can point to work from the past few years that you personally produced or substantially shaped.
Experience producing communications that are direct and factual while being engaging and effective with their target audiences—work that succeeds through substance and clarity rather than embellishment.
Intellectual curiosity and the ability to engage deeply with GiveWell’s research and ideas, even without prior experience in our giving areas.
Experience advising executives or other senior decision-makers directly.
Strong alignment with GiveWell’s mission and values, including truth-seeking, transparency, and a commitment to communicating accurately and thoughtfully.
We also think these qualities will help you do well in the role and at GiveWell:
People who can develop a strong point of view and hold it with confidence, but remain genuinely open to challenge, new information, and better ideas.
Self-starters who take ownership, are comfortable creating structure in an evolving environment, and can make thoughtful decisions without always having complete information.
People who are proactive and anticipatory, who identify opportunities, risks, bottlenecks, and communications needs before they become obvious.
Collaborative leaders who raise the quality of the work around them and build strong relationships across teams.
People who coordinate well with peers, resolve dependencies and disagreements, and make shared work clearer rather than more complicated.
Key Questions & Information
What are some of the reasons I might not like this role?
You want to step into a mature function with established systems, rather than build one while you run it.
You do best with clear direction and established priorities. We’ll expect you to set most of your own, make most decisions yourself, and reach substantial autonomy within your first six months.
You prefer advising on communications to producing and being accountable for them.
You want sole ownership of an organization’s overarching communications strategy and brand. At GiveWell, the CEO and executive team owns that direction; you would help shape it and lead your function within it.
You want to lead a large team from day one. This team is small today, and much of the most difficult work will be yours to do directly.
You find standards of precision and understatement limiting and frustrating. We work extremely hard to only communicate accurately what we know and what we don’t.
Can I apply to more than one of the Senior Communications Officer roles?
You can, but most people shouldn’t. We’re looking for deep expertise in these areas, and we expect most candidates with required expertise will be a clear fit for a single role. If you’re one of the few with real depth in more than one area, apply to both and tell us why. Otherwise, apply for the role you are most qualified for, and we’ll let you know if we think another role might suit you better.
What does this interview process entail?
We’ll use a combination of interviews, written exercises, and work trials to assess the qualities described above. We’ll share more specific details if we invite you to move forward to any of the following stages, but our current plan will likely include the following:
Application
Interview with a member of the Talent Acquisition Team
Compensated work trial with a set maximum number of hours
Interview with GiveWell's Chief of Staff to the CEO
Values interview
CEO interview and References
Note that you don’t need to submit a cover letter. We rely heavily on your resume and answers to the application questions below when we’re making early decisions. We encourage you to spend time responding to the application questions thoroughly and carefully.

We’re hiring a Senior Communications Officer, Editorial & Production to lead the editorial quality and production of GiveWell’s communications. You will set the editorial bar, build the people and systems needed to produce excellent work consistently and at increasing scale, and personally shape some of our most complex and consequential content.
This role will lead a small and growing team. This is one of three new communications leadership roles, alongside a
Senior Communications Officer, Strategic Communications
and a
Senior Communications Officer, Media & Public Affairs
In this hands-on leadership position, you’ll own the editorial quality and production of GiveWell’s communications, with end-to-end responsibility for this emerging function. You’ll strengthen its standards, hire and develop its people, build its systems, and personally own its hardest and most consequential work.
What You'll Do
As Senior Communications Officer, Editorial & Production, you will be responsible not only for the quality of individual pieces but also for creating a content operation that can prioritize effectively, manage dependencies, use its resources well, and deliver reliably. This will require both senior editorial judgment and strong operational leadership.
Specific duties will include:
Own the editorial quality and production of GiveWell’s communications, ensuring that our work is clear, accurate, useful, carefully reasoned, and delivered on time. You will serve as GiveWell’s senior editor for our communications content, with responsibility for returning or correcting work that does not meet our editorial bar.
Build and manage the workflows, editorial standards, review processes, and production systems that allow GiveWell to create consistently excellent content at increasing scale.
Lead planning, prioritization, and resource allocation for GiveWell’s owned-content portfolio, managing dependencies and moving complex projects from concept through publication.
Uphold GiveWell’s voice and editorial standards across everything we publish, and help colleagues across the organization write within them.
Own the development of GiveWell’s recurring communications and reporting products, turning established priorities and messaging into clear, accurate content.
Personally create, edit, or substantially shape our most complex, sensitive, or high-priority content.
Oversee GiveWell’s website content operations, including the people and processes responsible for routine updates and publishing, so that the site remains accurate, current, and consistent with our editorial standards.
Serve as a senior editorial and production partner to teams across GiveWell, helping shape high-priority projects early, determine the right format and production approach, and establish clear roles, review paths, and timelines.
Oversee the production of design, visual, and multimedia assets across GiveWell’s channels, and the internal team and external contractors who create them.
Manage and develop one or two team members initially, and determine how the function’s team and capabilities should grow over time.
About You
You are skilled at using communications to help people understand complex ideas, build trust, and take action.
This should include 10+ years of experience leading editorial and content-production work, setting and maintaining editorial standards, managing writers and editors, and building systems that produce consistently high-quality work. You have deep experience owning that work end to end, not just contributing to it. You’ve remained a hands-on leader who enjoys the work itself, as well as the strategy and systems behind it.
You are a precise editor of complex or technical content: you read text literally and carefully, and you notice when a claim isn’t supported by the evidence behind it. You should be able to combine high standards for individual work with the operational judgment needed to prioritize, allocate resources, manage complex production, and increase capacity over time. You should understand how content is developed through writing, editing, design, audio, graphics, websites, and other formats—even if you are not personally an expert in every medium.
At GiveWell, the CEO and executive owns that direction; you would help shape it and lead your function within it.
You want to lead a large team from day one. This team is small today, and much of the most difficult work will be yours to do directly.
