- Hands-on experience with data-intensive work, such as batch or streaming pipelines, scheduled jobs, event logging, or serving analytical data (e.g. Airflow, Spark, Kafka / Kinesis, dbt, a data lake or warehouse).
- Care about data accuracy and reliability, including idempotency, backfills, and handling late or duplicate data.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills; comfortable partnering with product, design, and data teams.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or the equivalent.
Bonus if you have:
- Experience with data quality, lineage, or observability tooling.
- Experience building customer-facing analytics, reporting, or insights features.

If you’re a creator at heart, are energized by our mission, and share our company values, we’d love to hear from you.

ABOUT RAMP
Ramp is building the smart infrastructure for finance teams, embedded in the transaction flow of every dollar a business spends. We automate how over $275B in annualized spend flows in and out of 85,000+ companies: authorizing payments, flagging risk, categorizing spend, and closing books.
The problems are high-stakes, data-dense, and unforgiving.
We hire people with high agency and high urgency. We look for slope over intercept. We care less about where you trained and more about what you’ve built. At Ramp, everyone is a builder who owns problems end to end and makes consequential decisions that shape the outcome.
The median Ramp customer saves 7.5% and grows revenue 16% in their first year – far in excess of businesses operating without Ramp. We believe every ambitious company deserves the same.
If you want to build systems that directly shape how companies move and manage billions, Ramp is the place to do it.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Ramp’s Token Spend Management team helps finance and technical teams understand and manage what they spend across AI providers and subscriptions. We are building the third pillar https://ramp.com/blog/ramp-at-44-billion-the-third-pillar of finance. The product brings provider usage and billing information together so customers can see where costs come from, attribute spend, and act on it with greater confidence.
We’re looking for a senior backend engineer to build the systems behind that experience. You’ll own substantial projects from design through production, turn data from different providers into dependable product experiences, and work with product, design, data, and engineering partners to make complex spend information useful to customers. You will be involved in key company initiatives such as inference accounting, and figuring out new and novel ways to help companies not just manage, but think about their AI Spend.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Design and build backend services and APIs that support AI spend visibility, attribution, insights, and controls
- Build and improve integrations that ingest usage and billing information from supported providers
- Taking the data from those integrations and converting it into helpful structures for external customers, and internal product consumers
- Create reliable data models and processing workflows that make spend information accurate, traceable, and useful across the product
- Own projects from technical design through launch, monitoring, and iteration
- Improve the reliability, performance, and observability of systems as customer usage and provider coverage grow
- Partner with product, design, data, and engineering teammates to turn customer needs into practical solutions
- Raise the engineering bar through thoughtful design reviews, code reviews, and mentorship
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- Experience designing, building, and operating production backend systems, including APIs, data models, and asynchronous workflows
- Strong judgment about system design, data correctness, reliability, and when to keep a solution simple
- A track record of independently owning complex projects and shipping high-quality software
- Experience working with external data sources or integrations where data quality and changing interfaces matter
- Comfort working through ambiguous product problems with cross-functional partners
- Clear communication and a collaborative approach to technical decisions and feedback
NICE TO HAVES
- Experience with usage metering, billing, spend management, or financial data products
- Experience integrating with AI providers or other third-party usage and billing APIs
- Experience building attribution, alerts, limits, or other systems that help customers understand and manage spend

If you want to build systems that directly shape how companies move and manage billions, Ramp is the place to do it.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Getting paid is still one of the most manual parts of running a business. Finance teams chase invoices over email, match payments to invoices by hand in spreadsheets, and close the books late because cash data is scattered across banks, payment processors, and ERPs.
Ramp's Accounts Receivable team is building the system that automates all of it, from the moment an invoice is sent to the moment cash is reconciled in the general ledger. We own the full receivables lifecycle: invoicing, collections, payments, cash application, and accounting sync.
We're looking for a senior backend engineer to own core pieces of that system. The work sits where hard engineering problems meet real money: matching messy payment data to the right invoices, keeping ledgers correct to the cent, and syncing reliably with the accounting systems our customers depend on. You'll own projects end to end, from design through production, and work closely with product and design to turn complex finance workflows into software that just works.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Build the payment-matching systems that automatically apply incoming ACH, wire, card, and check payments to the right invoices, even when payment details are incomplete or inconsistent
- Design accurate data models where every dollar is traceable from invoice to payment to general ledger
- Build two-way integrations with ERPs like NetSuite and QuickBooks that stay consistent through retries, partial failures, and edits on either side
- Build collections workflows that help businesses get paid faster without hurting their customer relationships
- Own projects from problem definition and technical design through launch, monitoring, and iteration
- Raise the engineering bar through design reviews, code reviews, and mentorship
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- Product sense: you care about the customer problem, not just the ticket, and you push back when the spec is wrong
- Experience designing and operating production backend systems, including APIs, data models, and asynchronous workflows
- Strong system design judgment and the ability to balance speed, correctness, reliability, and simplicity
- A track record of independently owning complex projects and shipping high-quality software
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to technical decisions
NICE TO HAVES
- Experience with invoicing, billing, payments, accounting, or other financial workflows
- Experience building integrations that keep data consistent across systems
- Experience improving reliability and operational visibility in a growing product

Features end to end: backend, frontend and production
The on-chain / off-chain architecture of your product: what lives in contracts, what lives in services, and how the two stay consistent. You make these decisions and justify them in writing
Security and correctness of what you ship: signing flows, interactions with contracts that hold user assets, keys and secrets
Production operation of your services, as part of the team's on-call rotation
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Build backend services in Go and TypeScript: chain indexing, transaction relaying, event processing, APIs for dApps and SDKs
Build infrastructure backend services for tokenizing in-game items and currencies
Build dApp frontends in React: wallet connection, transaction signing, on-chain state in the UI
Integrate smart wallets into products: accounts, paymasters, bundlers
Develop SDKs used by game studios and partners
Monitor services and contracts in production and take part in on-call
Review code
Set up and maintain AI tooling in the repositories (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor: rules, context, harness) so the team uses it effectively
Required
Experience
5+ years of commercial software development, with senior-level production experience across backend and frontend
dApps that you shipped to production and maintained
Web3 libraries and wallets
viem and wagmi in production: clients and transports, contract reads and writes with typed ABIs, event subscriptions, wagmi hooks and connectors, caching and invalidation of on-chain state
How wallet signers work: EOAs, browser and embedded wallets, smart accounts; personal_sign (EIP-191) and typed data (EIP-712); the EIP-1193 provider; network switching
Hands-on experience with smart wallets: UserOperations, gas sponsored via paymasters, signature validation for contract accounts (ERC-1271)
Backend
Go and TypeScript (Node.js) for production services
Processing on-chain events: idempotency, reorg handling, retries
Asynchronous messaging and event-driven design (Kafka, RabbitMQ or
NATS
): delivery guarantees, ordering, reprocessing
Relational databases (PostgreSQL) and caching (Redis)
Designing REST and gRPC APIs: versioning, backward compatibility
Frontend
React and TypeScript: rendering model, state management, performance
Web security fundamentals:
XSS
,
CSRF
,
CSP
, safe handling of signatures and keys in the browser
Smart contracts
Reading and understanding Solidity contracts and the
EVM
(storage, gas, call semantics, proxy upgrade patterns, access control) well enough to integrate with them safely and review changes
Common contract vulnerability classes (reentrancy, front-running /
MEV
, oracle manipulation, signature replay) and how they affect the off-chain side
Operations
Containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) at the level of deploying and debugging your own services
Observability (we use Datadog; experience with Prometheus, Grafana, ELK / Graylog or OpenTelemetry also counts): metrics, logs, tracing and alerting for services and contracts; diagnosing incidents in production
Engineering practices
Testing: unit, integration, E2E
Git, CI/CD (GitLab CI or similar)
AI-assisted engineering
Daily hands-on use of AI coding tools (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor) for development and review, including configuring them for a repository

Company Description
We’re http://checkout.comCheckout.com http://Checkout.com. You might not know our name, but companies like eBay, Spotify, Klarna, Uber, and Sony do, because we’re behind many of the digital experiences you use every day.
We are where the world checks out, enabling over 10 billion transactions yearly for more than one billion global shoppers.
Whether you want to book a holiday, order food, renew a subscription, or check out online, there’s a good chance our tech powers the payments behind the scenes. Our platform helps the most ambitious businesses deliver effortless digital experiences, at scale.
If you want to do career-defining work, you’ve come to the right place. We move fast, think globally, and believe great teams are built by hiring exceptional people with conviction, curiosity, and the desire to make an impact.
With 20 offices across six continents and London as our HQ, we’re shaping the future of fintech – and we’re just getting started.
Checkout.com http://Checkout.com will grow you faster than you expect - the deals, the pace, and the people demand it. If you've ever felt a role never let you show what you're truly capable of, this is the opposite problem: meaningful deals with some of the UK's and the world's biggest brands, real autonomy, and no ceiling on what you can take on.
You'll join the Solutions team in London and own the technical side of deals from first conversation to go-live. Pre-sale, you're front and centre: positioning the platform, building demos and POCs, winning over the merchant's engineers and architects while your Account Executive drives the commercial thread. Once the deal is ready, the weight shifts: our Implementation Engineers lead the build and you stay close, so your designs survive contact with reality.
You'll work on a modern, fast-moving platform with docs that answer your questions, alongside one of the strongest commercial teams in payments.
People who do well here are curious by default: they pull threads, teach themselves what the job needs next, and act before anyone asks. If that's how you work, you'll like it here.
What you will be doing:
- Support the commercial team to position Checkout.com http://Checkout.com's products, solutions, and services - and win deals. You'll be a key partner to Account Executives on product, payments, regulation, and tech.
- Understand merchant requirements and technical needs, map them to our APIs and products, create solution designs and internal documentation.
- Run demos, build "show-me" payment flows, create POCs, customise and create presentations.
- Provide thought leadership on all aspects of Payment Performance - Acceptance Rate, Fraud Prevention, Tokenisation, Payment Methods, and others.
- Lead all technical interactions with merchants - chats, calls, meetings, and workshops - from first contact through go-live, partnering with our Implementation Engineers during integration.
- Support the BID management team with RFP and RFI responses.
- Enable internal functions, commercial and tech, with market and merchant feedback on product capabilities. Champion product change and improvement.
- Stay up to date with industry standards, solutions, and tech.
- Be an expert on Checkout.com http://Checkout.com's platform and products.
About You:
If the list below looks like you, apply.
Experience
- 2+ years as a Sales Engineer, Solutions Architect, Pre-Sales Consultant, Implementation Engineer, or TAM. At a PSP or payments company is a bonus.
- Merchant-side counts too: checkout engineering, an in-house payments team, a payments product role.
- Experience in a technical, client-facing role.
Payments and technical skills
We need real depth in one of the two areas below and the appetite to close the gap on the other. If payments is your strength, this job will make you more technical, you'll need to want that. Strong coder lighter on payments: payments can be taught, you'll have time.
Payments:
- Understanding of the end-to-end payment flow and the industry's rules, regulations, and schemes.
- Experience with 3DS, Network Tokenisation, Apple/Google Pay, APMs, Open Banking, or fraud-risk engines.
Tech:
- You can code and you're comfortable with web technologies - payments run on the web. At least one front-end (JavaScript, React, Angular) or back-end (Java, .NET, Python, Node) language.
- Familiar with API-based integration (REST/JSON, Postman); can reproduce, isolate, and explain issues using logs, API responses, and tests.
How you work
- Clear written and verbal English; equally at home with developers and product teams as with payments, finance, and C-level stakeholders.
- Commercially minded: you talk revenue, volume, and pricing, not just APIs, and push deals forward without being asked.
- Highly organised; able to prioritise shifting workloads.
Nice to have:
- Previous exposure to RFI/RFP processes.
- Familiarity with PSD2/PSD3/PSR, FCA, ISO-8583.
- An additional language.
- Former engineering, developer, or product manager background.
- Prior roles in the e-commerce industry.
Not sure whether to apply?
Build a working payment demo using our public docs at docs.checkout.com http://docs.checkout.com and send it to kate.moore@checkout.com. A working demo tells us more than a perfect CV.
