ABOUT US:
AI NEEDS A NEW INFRASTRUCTURE LAYER. WE'RE BUILDING IT AT MODAL.
Every era of computing brought new workloads that previous infrastructure couldn't support: mainframes, databases, and the cloud. Each time, the company that rebuilt the layer underneath defined the decade. AI is no different, except it touches everything instead of one slice, and the window to build the layer underneath it is open right now.
Our customers include category-defining companies like Ramp https://modal.com/blog/how-ramp-built-a-full-context-background-coding-agent-on-modal, Cognition, DoorDash, and Suno. They rely on Modal for instant GPU access, sub-second container starts, and native storage, so it's simple to serve low-latency inference, fine-tune models, and access production-ready sandboxes at scale.
We've passed $1B in annualized run rate, up 15x from a year ago. In October 2026 we raised a $750M Series D led by Accel at a $15.75B valuation.
Our team includes creators of popular open-source projects (e.g.,Seaborn https://github.com/mwaskom/seaborn,Luigi https://github.com/spotify/luigi), academic researchers, international olympiad medalists, and experienced engineering and product leaders with decades of experience.
THE ROLE:
Most of the value of owning a model shows up at serving time. We’re building a platform that covers the whole life of an LLM (train it, deploy it, observe it), and inference is where teams feel the difference every day. We already run elastic inference, sandboxes, distributed volumes, and multi-node training, and we control the infrastructure underneath, so the serving stack is ours to shape rather than something we resell.
You will do hands-on inference research at Modal, working with the research lead to pick high-impact bets and owning them end to end. The bets that matter most are the ones that move cost per token and tail latency on the workloads our customers actually run.
WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON:
- Own end-to-end inference research bets: speculative decoding, disaggregated prefill/decode, quantization (FP8, INT4), KV-cache and memory management, autoscaling for spiky serverless traffic, and whatever else the research agenda calls for
- Train custom speculators against real production traffic and feed what you learn back into target models; acceptance length is the metric that decides the win
- Work directly with customers alongside our Forward Deployed Engineers to deploy and tune models, and bring what you learn back into the research
- Carry and expand collaborations with outside research labs, for example:
- our work with ZLab on DFlash https://modal.com/blog/spec-is-all-u-need, a speculator design built on KV injection and blockwise parallel drafting
- our work with SGLang on specdec https://modal.com/blog/host-overhead-inference-efficiency and multimodal inference https://modal.com/blog/boosting-multimodal-inference-performance-by-greater-than-10-with-a-single-python-dictionary performance
- our work on Flash Attention 4 kernels https://modal.com/blog/flash-attention-4-faster
- Work with engineering to turn frontier serving techniques into products: primitives for disaggregation, fast weight refresh for models that keep training after deployment, observability for quality and latency in production, or even a next-generation inference engine
- Help shape the research agenda
None of the above is prescriptive; your work will help guide our future.
YOU MAY BE A FIT IF:
- You have a research-leaning or systems background in LLM inference, with work you can point to
- You’re fluent in the LLM serving stack, from kernels and quantization up to schedulers and autoscaling
- You have a record of shipping research or systems that other people build on, whether in a lab or in industry
- You have the drive to independently take a research bet from idea to result, working in the open with the rest of the team
- You’re able to work in person in our NYC or San Francisco office

This role exists to uphold the highest standards for data used in training and evaluating AI models, while also improving the workflows and tools that enable efficient annotation. You will spend most of your time reviewing and auditing annotations against rubrics, with the remainder focused on building, maintaining, and troubleshooting internal tooling. Your collaboration with annotators, technical program managers, and engineers will help refine the guidelines and processes that shape how our data is produced.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Generate and validate high-quality data annotations based on guidelines and continuous feedback.
- Surface systemic issues, edge cases, and gaps in guidelines to annotation operations and technical stakeholders.
- Produce annotations yourself to model the quality bar expected of the team.
- Build and maintain internal tools and automation to streamline annotator workflows, such as dashboards, scripts, and utilities.
- Troubleshoot environment, tooling, and version control issues for annotators, liaising with IT and engineering as needed.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to refine guidelines and processes for data production.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- A degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or 2 to 5 years of professional experience in software engineering, technical support, or tool development.
- Hands-on experience using code agents in your development workflow and a genuine interest in their evolution.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, JavaScript), with the ability to read and reason about code across multiple languages.
- Ability to apply consistent judgment against a rubric and identify edge cases, ambiguities, or gaps in guidelines.
- Sustained focus and accuracy for detail-oriented, high-volume review work.
- Comfort working in a Unix-like terminal, including shell basics, package managers, environment setup, and version control workflows.
- Ability to troubleshoot local development environment issues across common operating systems.
- Professional proficiency in English, with strong writing and comprehension skills.

About the Role
We are a Las Vegas based game studio born on the Roblox platform and built by people who genuinely love this community. As a community-first studio, we care as much about our worlds and players as we do about the people building them. That mindset has helped us grow into one of the most innovative teams on Roblox, pushing boundaries, shaping culture, and setting new standards across the platform. With over 8B game visits, 44M monthly players, and a 19M member community, our worlds have become a core part of the Roblox ecosystem. We’re a ten-time winner of the Roblox Innovation Awards and recognized as builders of the future of the platform. From Creatures of Sonaria and Dragon Adventures to World // Zero and Horse Life, we create experiences that players live in, not just visit.
What we are looking for
We're looking for a passionate, data-driven Product Manager to join our game teams. In this role, you'll own the product vision and roadmap for your game, partnering closely with Design, Engineering, Art, Marketing, and Commerce to ship features that delight players and drive long-term growth. You'll sit at the intersection of player experience, game design, and live-ops, working within the unique constraints and opportunities of the Roblox platform, where your players are vocal, your community is enormous, and your updates ship in weeks, not quarters.
Responsibilities:
— Own and drive the product roadmap for your game, from ideation through launch and post-launch iteration.
— Analyze game metrics and player behavior to identify opportunities, diagnose problems, and measure the impact of shipped features.
— Stay close to your game's community to understand what players love, what frustrates them, and what they're asking for next.
— Collaborate with creative leadership to plan seasonal content, events, and monetization updates that resonate with your players.
— Partner with design, engineering, and art teams to translate product vision into well-scoped, executable work.
— Define and prioritize features based on player feedback, data, and strategic goals
— Write clear product specs and briefs that give your team everything they need to build with confidence.
— Run sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives to keep the team focused and unblocked.
— Communicate progress, risks, and learnings to stakeholders clearly and proactively.
— Foster a culture of focus, momentum, and fun across your team.
Requirements:
— 1–3 years of experience as a Product Manager or Producer in gaming.
— Strong analytical mindset. You are comfortable working with data to inform decisions and measure outcomes.
— Experience owning a product roadmap end-to-end, including prioritization, scoping, and shipping.
— Familiarity with Roblox Studio. You don't need to write Lua, but you should be able to open a place in Roblox Studio, navigate a game hierarchy, understand how assets and scripts are organized, and speak credibly with developers about scope and feasibility.
— Excellent written and verbal communication skills. You can write a crisp spec and present a clear recommendation to leadership.
— Experience with live service products and the cadence of ongoing updates, events, and seasonal content.
— Collaborative by nature. You work well across disciplines and know how to build trust with creative and technical partners.
— Comfortable using tools like Notion, Google Suite, Discord, or similar for roadmap management and documentation.
Location:
This is a remote-first role open to candidates anywhere in the world. Las Vegas-based team members work in-office Tuesday through Friday (Monday optional). If Vegas sounds fun, we offer relocation support for candidates interested in moving here. In-office perks include daily DoorDash credits to keep you fed, commuter credits to cover your ride in, and a monthly game stipend because we think playing games is part of the job. We are actively building a UK talent hub in anticipation of a dedicated UK office. Candidates across the UK are warmly encouraged to apply.
