Location: Hybrid - San Francisco, New York City
About Vercel:
Vercel is the agentic infrastructure company, freeing people and agents to ship what's next. For more than a decade we've helped builders move from idea to production with speed, security, and exceptional developer experience.
Now we're scaling our products for both agents and people to ship and run software, built in the open and trusted by OpenAI, PayPal, Ramp, Supreme, and millions of developers worldwide.
About the role
We are looking for a Product Security Engineer to build the systems that triage and validate bug bounty and other externally reported security findings, not to work the queue. This role suits a software engineer moving into security or a security engineer with a strong engineering background. You will build large language model (LLM) and agent-based tooling that validates findings, traces them to their root cause, and opens fixes for well-understood vulnerability classes. This is a hybrid role based in San Francisco or New York City, with three days a week in the office.
What you’ll do
Build the systems that take in externally reported vulnerabilities and assess validity, severity, and reproducibility at a volume manual triage cannot match
Build LLM and agent-based analysis that validates business logic, authentication, and design-level findings, not just known signatures
Build systems that trace validated findings to their root cause and propose, and increasingly open, fixes for well-understood vulnerability classes, with human review gates
Own the bug bounty program, including scope, policy, and researcher engagement, and feed every resolved report back into automated triage
Extend the tooling into security testing capabilities that customers can use on what they build and deploy
What you need
5+ years of software engineering or security engineering experience, building and shipping production systems or internal tools
Wrote production code in JavaScript/TypeScript on Node.js, with hands-on experience in web frameworks such as Next.js or React
Built with LLM or agent-based tooling
Reproduced and assessed externally reported vulnerabilities, including judging severity
Bonus if you
Built security automation used across an engineering org, not just for your own team
Built systems that auto-generate or propose code fixes, not just findings
Tested or secured multi-tenant platforms where customer-built applications run on shared infrastructure
Compensation & Benefits:
Competitive compensation package, including equity.
Inclusive Healthcare Package.
Learn and Grow - we provide mentorship and send you to events that help you build your network and skills.
Flexible Time Off.
We will provide you the gear you need to do your role, and a WFH budget for you to outfit your space as needed.
The San Francisco, CA base pay range for this role is $208,000.00 - $312,000.00. Actual salary will be based on job-related skills, experience, and location. Compensation outside of San Francisco may be adjusted based on employee location. The total compensation package may include benefits, equity-based compensation, and eligibility for a company bonus or variable pay program depending on the role. About the role
We are looking for a Security Software Engineer, IAM, to build identity and access management (IAM) infrastructure as software, not administer identity products, and this role suits a software engineer who has gone deep on identity or an IAM engineer with a strong engineering background. You will own identity and IAM end to end, replacing the approval queue with access that is self-serve, time-bound, and provable, built so identity is defined as code, reviewed in pull requests, deployed through CI, and observable in production, and you will help decide how agents act on behalf of users and systems. This is a hybrid role based in San Francisco or New York City, with three days a week in the office.
What you’ll do
Migrate Okta and related IAM configuration to Terraform so every identity change is reviewed, tested, and versioned, and help engineering teams adopt infrastructure as code
Build a self-serve access platform, including just-in-time (JIT) access, that lets team and system owners define, request, and time-bound their own access
Own provisioning, deprovisioning, and access review workflows that generate System and Organization Controls 2 (SOC 2) audit evidence automatically
Unify corporate IAM (employee identity, SaaS access, devices) and production IAM (service accounts, infrastructure permissions, on-call access) into one identity plane, and enforce least-privilege access across cloud, SaaS, and production infrastructure
Define and build how agents request and hold access, working with the Accounts team on product-facing identity
What you need
7+ years building and owning identity, access management, or platform security systems, including IAM design across corporate (Okta or equivalent) and production (AWS or GCP) environments
Built and operated production services or self-service platforms in TypeScript/Node.js, Go, or Python, including REST APIs
Implemented OAuth2, OpenID Connect (OIDC), Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML), and System for Cross-domain Identity Management (SCIM) at the protocol level, including failure modes such as token replay and sync drift
Managed IAM infrastructure as code in Terraform
Bonus if you
Led a Terraform migration for IAM or identity infrastructure at scale
Designed or built a JIT access system or access governance platform
Designed delegation or scoped-credential models for agents or service identities

About the Role
Join Alvys, an early-stage company transforming the $800B US freight industry. As a Senior Full-Stack Engineer, you’ll build and operate key parts of our cloud-native SaaS platform—spanning backend services, frontend applications, and cross-cutting system components. You will own features end-to-end, partner closely with engineering, product, and design, and help advance both the technical foundations and user experience of our products.
Industry Insight
Transportation logistics is massive, fragmented, and still largely underserved by modern software. You’ll be helping define the future of how freight moves by contributing to automation, operational intelligence, and workflow modernization at scale.
About Alvys
Alvys is building a multi-tenant SaaS platform that powers modern transportation operations. We combine deep industry knowledge with strong technical execution to bring clarity, automation, and reliability to one of the world’s most essential industries.
Our Principles
Engineering Principles:
Build for Real-World Impact
— Our users rely on Alvys to solve real problems, not abstract ones. Every feature we ship is designed to reduce friction, increase efficiency, and drive tangible results for the people moving freight every day.
Extreme Ownership and Empowerment
— Ownership extends beyond building—it means being accountable for quality, reliability, and customer impact. If it's in production, it's yours—bugs, uptime, and results.
Technology Debt is Strategic, Not Accidental
— Technical debt is a strategic choice, not an oversight. We incur it deliberately when it unlocks speed, learning, or market advantage. Our architecture remains clean, maintainable, and scalable as we grow.
Simplicity Scales; Complexity Costs
— Logistics is inherently complex, but our technology shouldn't be. We prioritize simplicity in our architecture, leveraging modularity and well-defined service boundaries to reduce cognitive load.
Radical Transparency
— We democratize data and make it accessible across all functions to drive alignment and decision-making. Transparency also means feedback—we systematize constructive feedback loops to ensure growth.
Engineering Culture:
Move Fast, Learn Fast
— Speed is our advantage, but we move fast intentionally. We bias for action, assume positive intent, and treat every mistake as a learning opportunity.
Own the Outcome
— Every engineer owns outcomes, not tickets. We take responsibility end-to-end—identifying problems, delivering solutions, and ensuring they last.
Engineering-Led, Customer-Driven
— Engineering leads by shaping technical strategy, but never in isolation. Designers, PMs, and Engineers share context and decisions, keeping customer outcomes at the center.
Pragmatism Over Purism
— Elegant code matters, but business impact matters more. We choose solutions that scale, are maintainable, and solve real customer problems—not theoretical ones.
People Over Heroics
— We don't reward burnout or always-on behavior. Sustainability is a feature, not a luxury. If someone needs to slow down, unplug, or take care of life outside work—that's expected.

.NET/C#, CosmosDB, Cognitive Search, Azure Services

The Role
Engineers at Brilliant work in small, elite teams alongside colleagues from Product, Design, and Content. As an interactives engineer, you’ll craft the building blocks that power Brilliant's interactive learning experiences.
Brilliant's learning experiences blend thoughtful mechanics, intuitive level design, and deep pedagogical insights. Each interactive is driven by APIs designed for learning designers, our LLM-powered content agent, and our AI tutor, with every possible configuration guaranteed to be a correct, solvable, and meaningful puzzle. It's a tricky technical problem with a big payoff for our learners.
Solving this technical challenge enables us to build effective and engaging learning experiences at scale, helping our learners get the reps they need to achieve mastery. With your help, we'll teach all of STEM.

Responsibilities
Craft new interactive building blocks that captivate learners and make foundational concepts addictive to master.
Build clear and expressive APIs designed for experts and AIs.
Own the technical implementation of learning experiences from idea to launch on a cross-functional team that trusts you to do what's right for our users but is there to support you when you need it.
Write simple, robust, readable code that teammates and future engineers can easily maintain and extend.
Contribute to a culture of excellence within your pod, setting high standards for candor and mutual accountability, and striking a careful balance between velocity and quality.
Frequently ask:
How does this impact our learners?
Who are you?
You have at least 7 years of professional experience in web-focused software engineering, ideally with meaningful experience in one or more of game development, animation, or interactive media.
You’re motivated by building robust, maintainable, AI-interoperable software systems that drive user and business outcomes.
You believe in using the right tool for the job — even when it’s an unfamiliar one, and especially when it's a boring one.
You enjoy solving technical challenges in a way simple enough for an intern to understand and build upon. You avoid introducing complex, novel, or "clever" solutions. You write code for humans
and
LLMs to comprehend.
You have a favorite product and can articulate your perspective on what makes using it delightful. You often think about how the products you use could be better.
You're constantly tinkering with AI tools and workflows and have used them to achieve surprising levels of productivity. You have a strongly-held POV on what effective AI-enabled software engineering looks like.
Lack of experience in a specific technology is never disqualifying, but experience with Elm or other functional programming languages would allow you to hit the ground running. This role works with Elm, JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, CSS, and even SVG.
Our Engineering Team
Brilliant's engineering team is small, elite, and AI-enabled. We believe in moving fast, fixing faster, and optimizing for outcomes over outputs. Our team is full of former founders, early employees, and engineering leaders turned ICs whose collective drive, judgement, and standards generate a palpable sense of momentum every day. The norm on this team is doing the very best work of our careers, and we both support and challenge each other every day to do exactly that.
Compensation and Benefits
We use a systematic compensation framework: salary scales are set each year for each job vertical, managers level folks on their team, and those levels are mapped directly to our compensation scales. A location-based adjustment is applied outside of SF and NYC (typically 5-10%) - feel free to ask us about your location!
Given the systematic approach, we always make First and Best offers - there is no negotiation (for new hires nor our existing teammates). This ensures people are paid based on their expected contribution, not their negotiation skills.
We offer top-notch health care plans, with 100% of the premiums covered for medical, dental, and vision for employees.
We offer flexible PTO, with a norm of taking off about 6 weeks per year (including federal holidays). We also provide home office equipment, a professional development stipend, and free food at our offices.

GiveWell’s mission is to help people in need as much as we can by researching the most cost‑effective ways to save and improve lives, sharing our work openly, and directing donations to the programs we believe will do the most good. Our work, which focuses on global health and well-being, is funded by tens of thousands of donors who rely on our research to inform their giving. We’ve grown from directing $1.5 million in 2010 to directing more than $400 million in 2025. We anticipate our total grantmaking is likely to approach or even exceed $1 billion this year, and we are working toward a future that could be several times that scale. Through years of deliberate groundwork, we’ve been growing our research capacity and scope in order to direct substantially more funding to the most impactful opportunities we can find.
The role
Senior Program Officers are the leaders of GiveWell's grantmaking. In this role, you'll take primary responsibility for a significant grantmaking portfolio, setting its strategy and sifting through the many opportunities we could fund to focus on those that matter most. Your decisions will inform the allocation of hundreds of millions of dollars to dozens of grantees. You'll also communicate externally about our work and mentor and advise other members of the team.
You will build and lead a grantmaking portfolio that brings rigor and creativity to GiveWell's hardest funding problems. You'll combine rigorous review of empirical evidence, cost-effectiveness modeling, strong grantee relationships, ground-truthing of how programs are actually delivered, discussions with subject matter experts, understanding of the broader context, and your own judgment to decide what to fund, how to structure it, and when to build something new. In the course of your work, you might approach questions like these:
How should we balance exploring and seeding new, smaller opportunities with funding cost-effective opportunities at scale today?
When the best opportunity doesn't exist yet, how do we create it, whether through co-design, seeding an implementer, or shaping broader incentives?
What is the best direction for our portfolio, and are we correctly prioritizing the programs and grantees we fund?
Where are the highest-impact opportunities to expand the portfolio while improving its cost-effectiveness?
How can we triangulate empirical evidence against expert opinion and other qualitative features, like a grantee's organizational track record?
Do a grantee's reported outputs reflect real coverage, quality, and adherence to evidence-based practices on the ground?
What research can we fund today that could substantially improve our grantmaking five years from now?
How much uncertainty are we willing to accept before making a grant, and which questions do we need to answer first?
Senior Program Officers work closely with
Senior Researchers
, an equivalently-leveled, parallel role on our team. Senior Researchers typically set the research agenda for grantmaking areas and tackle the thorniest, most open-ended questions we face, while Senior Program Officers own the grant and portfolio decisions — deciding what we fund and why, and incorporating Senior Researchers' analysis into their decisionmaking. Senior Program Officers have a research mindset, too: they're comfortable digging into a cost-effectiveness model and forming their own view of the evidence.
Team structure
Our research department is currently organized into eight teams:
Five of the teams (Water, Livelihoods, Nutrition, Malaria, and Vaccines) focus on specific areas of grantmaking.
The New Areas team focuses on interventions in domains that are new to GiveWell.
The Cross-Cutting team focuses on methodological issues, research quality, and other big-picture concerns that cut across all of our research work.
The Commons team provides generalized research support to each of the other teams, including landscaping research, vetting, and publishing.
New Senior Program Officers typically begin on our Cross-Cutting team, where they complete a structured onboarding program with one-on-one feedback on core GiveWell skills like evidence review, cost-effectiveness analysis, and clear research writing. Onboarding usually lasts one to two months.
We generally decide which team a new hire will join by the end of onboarding. Most move onto one of our grantmaking teams (for example, Malaria, Nutrition, Vaccines, or New Areas), and some stay on Cross-Cutting. Placement is based mainly on the research team's needs. In most cases, we won't know at the time of the offer which team someone will join, but if a candidate brings specialized expertise, we may settle on a team sooner. Once placed, team members usually stay on that team long-term.
Team values
We think our research team has unique qualities:
We care deeply and centrally about finding and sharing truth.
Truth-seeking is one of our
core values
. We post
our mistakes
and we prize our team members who keep our culture of free-flowing feedback strong.
We are independent.
We focus 100% on finding the most cost-effective opportunities to save and improve lives. Our researchers assist in communicating our research findings to the public and our donors, and on occasion we provide tailored advice to ultra-high-net-worth donors who want to rely on our expertise to direct their giving—but we never ask our researchers to trade off against honesty, or to hide their real beliefs.
We don’t waste time.
Once it’s clear that a particular research question is unlikely to change our bottom-line funding recommendation, we drop it as quickly as possible. We encourage our research staff to constantly re-evaluate their portfolios and only work on the highest-priority questions.
Lean research team = huge personal impact.
In 2026,
our research team of ~80 people is directing close to 1 billion dollars and we expect grantmaking dollars per research team member to increase in the future.
We work well together.
Our research team is lean because we’re able to attract top-tier people, all of whom complete skills-based assessments before joining our staff. We maintain a high-performing, collegial culture and pay our staff accordingly.
About you
The strongest candidates typically have at least 5-10 years of professional experience, a significant portion of which was in similar or closely-related roles. Many of our senior staff have quantitatively-oriented advanced degrees, but there’s no hard academic requirement — what matters to us is that you’ve used empirical tools to make rigorous, evidence-based decisions under uncertainty, whether you’ve done that in graduate training or hands-on experience.
In addition to relevant experience with the responsibilities listed above, we'll be interested in people with strong track records in any of the following areas:
Funding, building or scaling new programs, initiatives, or organizations.
Using rigorous quantitative analysis and cost-effectiveness modeling to support decisionmaking
Building relationships with diverse stakeholders (you'll work with other funders, research organizations, NGOs, and more, so it will be important for you to have strong skill in this area)
Owning large budgets and/or grant portfolios
Excellent written and verbal communication, with an emphasis on directness and clarity
Setting and iterating on strategy in complex, fast moving environments
It’s a plus, but not required, if you have experience:
Engaging with global health, development, or related fields
Reviewing randomized controlled trials and impact evaluations
Working with governments or multilateral organizations
Gathering first-hand data to inform program design
Managing a variety of grant types, including advocacy and market-shaping initiatives
You can review our staff bios
here
for more practical insight on the backgrounds and experience of our current team.
We expect that people with the soft qualities below will be the most successful and happy on our team. This isn’t a full list, but hopefully it conveys the gist of our team’s professional personality:
GiveWell’s mission and methods are personally energizing—you like our approach to research and you find personal meaning in our story of impact.
You’re abnormally curious—you ask lots of questions, and you’re willing to interrogate others’ work. Your curiosity also extends to your own work—you aren’t defensive when your research comes under scrutiny.
You get things done, and you'll drop what you're doing when something matters more. You drive work to conclusions efficiently, and when the evidence shifts or a higher-value opportunity appears, you’re eager to pivot.
You're entrepreneurial. When you see a gap, you want to fill it, whether that's designing a new program, finding an implementer, or setting up a new kind of funding mechanism. You make bets under uncertainty.
You routinely think about and surface the value judgments, background knowledge, and strategic commitments that undergird your work. You understand the potential effects of mistaken mental models, so you strive to improve yours and your team’s.
You dislike it when people express strong confidence in views that don’t seem to rely on commensurate evidence. You carefully and legibly communicate about your confidence levels.
You appreciate the value of an excellent reputation and strong relationships. You can moderate your directness and intensity when you’re communicating with external folks.
You love a
gnarly problem
. You figure out the most important questions to answer, go deep on the details where they matter (and move on where they don’t), and reassess your mental models based on what you’ve learned.
The details
Compensation:
We set salaries using a location-based tier system. Our pay for this role:
NYC or the San Francisco Bay Area: $308,000.
All other U.S. locations: $280,000.
International: Similar to the “all other U.S. locations” salary, based on historical exchange rates and delivered in locally-denominated currency.
Benefits
: Our
benefits
include:
Fully funded health, dental, vision, and life insurance (we cover 100% of premiums within the US for you and any dependents)
Four weeks of paid time off per year
16 weeks of fully paid parental leave
Ergonomic home workstations or coworking space memberships
Automatic contribution equal to 5% of your gross salary into your 403(b) retirement plan (for U.S. based staff)
Countries we can hire from:
GiveWell is a remote-first organization. However, for the time being, we can only hire within a select number of countries (US, UK, Canada, Switzerland, and Germany). To be considered for a role with GiveWell, you need to already be based in one of those countries or be willing to move to one of them. We expect to expand the list of locations where we can hire over the course of 2027, and our job descriptions always reflect the current status — so we'd encourage you to check back and apply again for a role you're eligible for.
Visa sponsorship:
The US is the only country where visa sponsorship is possible for a number of roles, and it's assessed on a case by case basis. For all other countries, you need to already have work authorization, we cannot sponsor visas.
Why we work this way:
Focusing on countries where we already have tested onboarding processes lets us move candidates through hiring faster and with fewer surprises. Every additional country brings its own labor laws, EOR requirements, and new processes to work through, which slows things down for hiring teams and new colleagues alike. Concentrating our footprint keeps the experience consistent and supports GiveWell’s wider absorption capacity goals.
Flexibility:
We support and encourage flexible working, including flexible hours, working remotely, and working from the office when you choose. The majority of our staff, including senior management, work flexibly in one way or another.
Travel:
Research team members are sometimes required to attend international site visits and conferences (on average 1-2 per year), with additional travel for those interested in traveling more. Additionally, we strongly encourage staff members to attend annual department retreats and twice-annual whole org visit weeks to bond with other team members and complete in-person work. We'll discuss travel obligations in more detail during late stages of the hiring process, and we’ll accommodate staff who have conflicting obligations.
Start date:
We’d like a candidate to start as soon as possible after receiving an offer, but we’ll offer flexibility for candidates whose personal or professional circumstances require them to moderately delay their start date.
Application deadline:
We don't currently have an application deadline. If that changes, we'll update the posting. We're reviewing applications on a rolling basis, so we recommend applying as soon as possible.
Miscellaneous details:
Please note that our hiring process relies on some (not all) of the same work trials that we use in our Researcher and Senior Researcher roles (including team-specific Senior Researcher postings). If you applied to one of these roles within the last year, you should hold off on applying to others unless our team reaches out directly. If you're interested in multiple roles, please just apply once and note in your application that you'd like to be considered for the other roles, too.
After application review, our hiring process consists of a short application exercise and up to 15 hours of compensated work trials. You can see more details about our hiring process on our
FAQs page
!
We devote significant staff capacity to initial application review, and we respond to all applications as quickly as possible.
We have a strong preference for full-time applicants, but we sometimes consider applications for part-time work on a case-by-case basis. We aren’t interested in reviewing applications for contract or project-based work at this time.
If we settle on an application deadline, we’ll write it in bold here. If you’re on our website job posting and don’t see a deadline, there is no deadline. If you’re reading this on an external job board and don’t see a deadline, you should double-check on our
website
.
You don't need to submit a cover letter—we rely mainly on your resume and answers to the application questions below when we're making early decisions.
About GiveWell
GiveWell is dedicated to finding and evaluating highly cost-effective global health and development opportunities, and we publish all the work, reasoning, and uncertainties behind our funding decisions. Our
giving funds
enable donors to contribute to the most impactful and cost-effective programs our researchers identify.
GiveWell is one of the world’s largest private funders of global development efforts. Trusted annually by tens of thousands of donors, GiveWell searches for highly cost-effective programs that save or improve lives the most. Since 2007, more than 150,000 donors have given over $2.6 billion through GiveWell to the most promising programs its research has identified, which we estimate will save more than
340,000 lives
.
GiveWell is most well-known for recommending a small number of
Top Charities
, which currently support
seasonal malaria chemoprevention
,
insecticide-treated nets
,
vaccine incentivization
, and
vitamin A supplementation
. However, most of our research capacity and grantmaking is devoted to
cost-effective opportunities outside of those programs
.
GiveWell
grants
have:
Helped governments
navigate changes to the funding landscape
and implement high-impact health programs, like
HIV/syphilis screening and treatment
for pregnant people in Zambia and Cameroon.
Sought to scope and scale promising interventions that don’t have clear existing implementers. We are supporting the
Clinton Health Access Initiative’s Incubator
to identify potentially cost-effective interventions and create programs that we would be excited to support in the future. For example, we
funded a program
to prevent tuberculosis among young children in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, India, that we co-designed with CHAI through the Incubator program.
Provided funding to ensure that programs that recently faced foreign aid funding cuts could continue, like
healthcare support and malnutrition treatment
in northern Cameroon.
Funded program delivery alongside strengthened monitoring and evaluation, as in our grants to support
treatment of clubfoot
and to
evaluate the program
.
Tested our
assumptions and refined our understanding
through further research and data collection, including
improved estimates of disease burden
and studies on
the effect of water chlorination on mortality
and
the impact of a tree-planting program on farmers’ income
.
We make our reasoning public and transparent so others can challenge it (sometimes we even
pay people to point out our errors
). We go to unusual lengths to check our assumptions and assess our impact, including
funding research
to address our uncertainties and gathering
independent monitoring and evaluation data
about the programs we support. We
change
our minds when the evidence demands it. For more about GiveWell, listen to Ezra Klein’s
recent interview
with GiveWell’s co-founder and CEO Elie Hassenfeld.
Additional information
We don’t want to miss candidates that could do great things at GiveWell. Practically, that means a GiveWell staff member reviews every application carefully, considering the whole picture of your background and potential. If you’re on the fence about applying because you meet some but not 100% of our preferred qualifications (some studies suggest this hesitation is especially common for women and people of color), we encourage you to apply anyway.
GiveWell is an Equal Employment Opportunity employer by choice. At minimum, this means that we comply with all federal, state, and local EEO and employment laws. Beyond the requirements of those laws, we value our team’s diversity in all respects, and we desire to maintain a work environment free of harassment or discrimination—we want our team members to thrive at GiveWell. If you need assistance or an accommodation due to a disability, contact us at careers@givewell.org. We will consider employment for qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.
