Company Description
We’re http://checkout.comCheckout.com http://Checkout.com. You might not know our name, but companies like eBay, Spotify, Klarna, Uber, and Sony do, because we’re behind many of the digital experiences you use every day.
We are where the world checks out, enabling over 10 billion transactions yearly for more than one billion global shoppers.
Whether you want to book a holiday, order food, renew a subscription, or check out online, there’s a good chance our tech powers the payments behind the scenes. Our platform helps the most ambitious businesses deliver effortless digital experiences, at scale.
If you want to do career-defining work, you’ve come to the right place. We move fast, think globally, and believe great teams are built by hiring exceptional people with conviction, curiosity, and the desire to make an impact.
With 20 offices across six continents and London as our HQ, we’re shaping the future of fintech – and we’re just getting started.
As a Staff Engineer (Payment Processing) at Checkout.com http://Checkout.com, you will set the technical direction for our Gateway, Routing and Payout platforms. Every payment and payout we process passes through these systems, from the merchant's API request to the routing decision that sends it to the right acquirer, payment method or payout rail. Correctness matters on every transaction, and small changes in availability, latency or routing quality show up directly in our merchants' approval rates and revenue.
This is a role for engineers who are energised by scale and by the hard trade-offs that come with it: latency budgets on the authorisation path, failure domains and blast radius, consistency and idempotency across regions, and the operational reality of running critical infrastructure around the clock.
You will operate as a force multiplier across multiple teams - shaping architecture, raising the engineering bar, and turning ambiguous, business-critical problems into designs that can be delivered incrementally. We're looking for individuals with deep technical judgement, strong ownership, and a pragmatic approach to breaking big problems into smaller iterations that deliver value continuously.
How you'll make an impact
- Own the architecture of high-throughput, low-latency distributed systems, defining the service boundaries, data models and integration patterns that let them scale by an order of magnitude
- Design for resilience from first principles - redundancy, graceful degradation, backpressure, idempotency and recovery - so that partial failures never become customer-facing outages
- Set and defend the non-functional requirements that matter: availability targets, latency percentiles, throughput ceilings, data durability and recovery objectives
- Lead the hardest technical decisions end to end, from problem framing and design review through to production rollout, migration and decommissioning of what came before
- Drive operational excellence by improving observability, alerting, capacity planning, load and chaos testing, and incident response, and by closing the loop on the root causes you find
- Raise the engineering bar across teams through design reviews, code review, pairing and mentorship, growing the senior engineers around you
- Partner with product, platform and other engineering teams to sequence delivery, remove blockers and keep multi-team programmes aligned on a single technical direction
- Make pragmatic build-versus-buy and refactor-versus-rewrite calls, and communicate the reasoning and trade-offs clearly to both engineers and senior leadership
Experience and qualifications
- Significant experience building and operating distributed backend systems in production, with a track record of technical leadership across multiple teams
- Demonstrable experience designing for high throughput and low latency, and a strong intuition for where systems break under load
- Deep understanding of resilience patterns in distributed systems: idempotency, retries and backoff, circuit breaking, queueing and backpressure, consistency and failure modes
- Strong proficiency in either .NET or Java, and the ability to write clear, production-ready code that others can maintain
- Experience with event-driven and streaming architectures, and with relational and non-relational data stores at scale
- Hands-on experience with cloud-based application development (we use AWS & Azure), containers, orchestration and infrastructure as code
- Experience owning production systems on call, with a strong sense of ownership for observability, monitoring and incident response
- Experience leading complex migrations or re-architectures of live, business-critical systems with no loss of availability or data integrity
- Excellent communication skills, able to influence without authority, write clear design documents, and express technical trade-offs to engineering and non-technical audiences alike
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in payments, financial services or another domain with strict correctness, auditability or regulatory requirements
- Experience with multi-region or active-active architectures, including data replication and failover strategies
- A history of mentoring engineers into senior and staff-level roles
Additional Information

WELCOME TO OLX
We're building marketplace sustainable ecosystems that millions of people depend on every month – to buy and sell cars, find homes, land jobs, and trade secondhand goods. It's commerce that matters: safe, smart, and environmentally responsible.
We do this with courage to innovate, commitment to outcomes, collaboration across 50+ nationalities and 7 markets, and a customer-led approach that puts real people first. Add a desire to win – and you get a culture that's ambitious, fast-moving, and built on trust.
Our brands – including AutoTrader, OLX, Otomoto Property24, and more – are loved by millions. And we're backed by Prosus, one of the world's largest tech investors.
Join OLX and see how far you can go.
About the role
Advertising is one of OLX's most important revenue lines - and one of its biggest opportunities. Today, our advertising business spans multiple markets, formats, and platforms, but it needs a product leader who can take it to the next level: from foundational ad-tech infrastructure to new revenue surfaces powered by AI.
We are looking for a Lead Product Manager to own the global advertising product end-to-end. This means everything from the ad-core stack (serving, auction, targeting, measurement) to growing revenue beyond listings through self-serve advertiser tools, programmatic demand, and retail-media formats. You'll also shape how advertising integrates into AI-native surfaces — balancing monetisation yield against buyer experience.
This is a role for someone who has built advertising products at scale, understands the programmatic ecosystem, and is excited about using AI to create new advertising experiences. You'll work closely with business and commercial stakeholders to grow revenue, while ensuring our advertising never compromises the trust our users place in the platform.
This role reports to the Head of Product.
What you'll do
Own the global advertising product end-to-end: ad-core stack (serving, auction, targeting, measurement) across all marketplaces and platforms
Drive growth of advertising revenue beyond listings, including self-serve advertiser tools, programmatic demand, and retail-media formats such as sponsored listings, native, and video
Own integration of ads into AI-native surfaces such as AutoIQ and agentic search, balancing yield against buyer experience
Define and track advertising success metrics: revenue, fill rate, eCPM, advertiser ROI, buyer experience impact
Partner closely with Engineering, Data Science, Commercial, and Sales teams to build the product capabilities that unlock revenue growth
Represent the advertising product at the leadership level, presenting strategy and results to executive audiences
What we're looking for
Significant product management experience in digital advertising, ad-tech, monetisation, or revenue product at scale
Proven track record of building and scaling advertising products — programmatic ads, third-party ads, billing systems, or ad-serving platforms
Experience taking advertising or monetisation products from early-stage to meaningful revenue
Ability to balance monetisation yield with user experience — making evidence-based trade-offs between revenue and buyer trust
AI-native: you build with AI, not just use it for productivity. You experiment with AI tools outside of work and bring that curiosity into your product craft
Zero-to-one: you see opportunities, not just optimisations. You spot problems, build prototypes, and ship
Comfortable with ambiguity: you don't wait for perfect clarity — you create it
Strong stakeholder management across commercial, engineering, and executive audiences
Preferred:
Experience with retail media, sponsored listings, native advertising, or video ad formats in a marketplace or e-commerce context
Familiarity with AI-native product surfaces and how advertising integrates with AI experiences
Multi-market experience across different regulatory and commercial environments
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at OLX
OLX values diversity and welcomes applicants of all races, ethnicities, disabilities, ages, genders, sexual orientations, religions, backgrounds, and experiences to apply. If this role excites you, we encourage you to apply, even if you don’t meet all the requirements - you may be just the right fit for this or other opportunities with us!
OLX will process your personal data to assess your fit for the applied position. You may optionally consent to store your data for up to 12 months after the application process for consideration in future OLX roles. ABOUT US
Sierra is the leading platform for customer-facing AI agents, working with many of the world's biggest brands — including The GAP, Rocket Mortgage, SoFi, Sutter Health, and SoftBank — to transform how they serve customers and grow their businesses. We are primarily an in-person company based in San Francisco, with growing offices across North America, Europe, and Asia.
We are guided by a set of values that are at the core of our actions and define our culture: Trust, Customer Obsession, Craftsmanship, Intensity, and a commitment to balancing Family along the way. These values are the foundation of our work, and we are committed to upholding them in everything we do.
Our co-founders are Bret Taylor https://www.linkedin.com/in/brettaylor/ and Clay Bavor https://www.linkedin.com/in/claybavor/. Bret currently serves as Board Chair of OpenAI. Previously, he was co-CEO of Salesforce (which had acquired the company he founded, Quip) and CTO of Facebook. Bret was also one of Google's earliest product managers and co-creator of Google Maps. Before founding Sierra, Clay spent 18 years at Google, where he most recently led Google Labs. Earlier, he started and led Google’s AR/VR effort, Project Starline, and Google Lens. Before that, Clay led the product and design teams for Google Workspace.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
You’ll join a full-stack data team building the systems making our AI agents measurably smarter with every interaction, building the real-time pipelines, analytics products, and deep personalization primitives that turn millions of conversations into business outcomes. You’ll work across these areas:
- Data Foundations: Architect and build our core platform to handle data at scale with low latency. This includes our real-time eventing infrastructure, streaming and batch ETL pipelines, and our Iceberg-based data lakehouse. Eligible full-time employees can participate in Sierra's equity plans subject to the terms of the applicable plans and policies.
BE YOU, WITH US
We're working to bring the transformative power of AI to every organization in the world. To do so, it is important to us that the diversity of our employees represents the diversity of our customers. We believe that our work and culture are better when we encourage, support, and respect different skills and experiences represented within our team. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't precisely match the job description. We strive to evaluate all applicants consistently without regard to race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, pregnancy, gender expression or identity, sexual orientation, citizenship, or any other legally protected class.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
When someone calls an airline, texts a retailer, or opens their bank's app and talks to a Sierra agent, our systems carry that conversation. Phone calls, SMS, WhatsApp, email, and the chat inside our customers' apps all run through this team.
AI voice, chat, and messaging agents are new and they must operate with global communication networks. Nobody has fully solved how to make the two work together at the speed of a real conversation. We have to solve it for millions of calls, and you will be building the future of how entire industries will operate with AI agents.
Demo: Finding the perfect stay https://sierra.ai/resources/videos/demo-finding-the-perfect-stay
Demo: Flight disruption recovery https://sierra.ai/resources/videos/demo-flight-disruption-recovery
- Multi-modal: Make one conversation work across voice, text, and screen. A customer can start by talking, switch to typing on a crowded train, send a photo of a broken part, and get a link or a form back on screen. The agent remembers everything, whichever way the customer talks and personalizes it. You will build on the frontier here, and decide what it should feel like.
- Make AI voice feel like a real conversation. Every call crosses carriers, telephony networks, and contact centers around the world before it reaches our agent. Making AI agents feel lively and real across global infrastructure is a critical problem to get right for end users.
- Give personal AI agents a safe way in. More people now have their own AI assistants. Today a company can either block them or hand them the user’s full account access. The Personal Agent Protocol https://personalagentprotocol.org/ is an open standard that offers a better option: a safe way for personal agents to work with a company and its Sierra agent. You’ll help build it.
- Build the agent experience inside the app. ChatKit is our library of native iOS, Android, and web components for talking to an agent. It covers voice controls, live waveforms, transcripts, and chat. Customers use it to build an agent experience inside a customer’s flagship app, not like a widget added on top. You decide what those components are and how they behave.
- Get every call to the right agent. You’ll build and own our global telephony stack: SIP, WebRTC, the Sierra Voice Protocol and our integrations with major contact-center platforms. That means millions of calls and messages, and every one of them reaching the right agent.
- Put Sierra on every channel. SMS, WhatsApp, RCS, email, LINE, Messenger and Instagram. You’ll build the tools that let developers launch a new channel on their own, delivering value in hours not weeks.
WHAT OWNERSHIP LOOKS LIKE
- A bias for shipping. You move fast, and you finish what you start.
- Curiosity about the hard parts. You go deep where other engineers avoid going: protocols, edge cases, and end to end multi-modal experiences.
- An AI-native way of building. You not only use AI tools every day, it is ingrained in the way you operate and think. You’ve deleted all old priors and re-invented the way you and your teams work from the ground up. Come ready to tell us about something you built that you couldn’t have built 6 months ago.
- An obsession with the details. When one call in ten thousand fails, you want to know why. You obsess about the product experience and pixels as much as you do latency and reliability.
- Strong backend fundamentals. You can also work comfortably across backend, infra, mobile and web.
- 3+ years building production software that real users depend on.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
- A passion for being on the frontier of AI products.
- Pride in building reliable, maintainable, and secure systems that scale.
- Motivation and high-agency to drive outcomes in a high-autonomy culture.
- 4+ years hands-on experience building production systems.
- Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
EVEN BETTER...
- Experience building AI products for enterprise or consumers
- Experience building native SDKs for iOS (Swift) or Android (Kotlin)
- Experience building messaging apps, voice apps or voice agents
- Experience with SIP, WebRTC, Twilio or contact-center platforms
- Experience with real-time, low-latency distributed systems
None of these are required. If the problems above excite you, we’d love to hear from you.
OUR VALUES
- Trust: We build trust with our customers with our accountability, empathy, quality, and responsiveness. We build trust in AI by making it more accessible, safe, and useful. We build trust with each other by showing up for each other professionally and personally, creating an environment that enables all of us to do our best work.

ABOUT BASETEN
Baseten powers mission-critical inference for the world's most dynamic AI companies, like Cursor, Notion, OpenEvidence, Abridge, Clay, Gamma, and Writer. By uniting applied AI research, flexible infrastructure, and seamless developer tooling, we enable companies operating at the frontier of AI to bring cutting-edge models into production. We're growing quickly and recently raised our $1.5B Series F https://www.baseten.co/blog/announcing-our-series-f/, led by Altimeter Capital, Conviction Partners, and Spark Capital. Join us and help build the platform engineers turn to ship AI products.
THE ROLE
Forward Deployed Engineering is Baseten’s swat team. We’re deeply technical, great with customers and fast, and we make the platform better with everything we learn in the field. FDEs take on the hardest inference problems for our most strategic customers: novel architectures, extreme scale, tight latency budgets. Then we turn those solutions into a platform no one can match.
We’re scaling the team quickly. We need someone to build the operating system that lets a fast-growing team of engineers stay focused on hard problems instead of coordination.
This is a high-visibility role with direct exposure to our largest customers and to company leadership. You’ll shape how a new kind of engineering team operates in the AI industry.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Run the priority account cadence. Own the operating rhythm for our top accounts: daily hot-account check-ins, the weekly “forest view” review with leadership, and the account list itself with Sales leadership. Goal: zero surprise escalations to our execs.
- Make the bridges work. Our FDE team connects to SA and Sales, Product, engineering (inference, infra), capacity and on-call. You’ll make sure each connection has a clear owner, cadence and SLA, with no hand-offs falling through the cracks:
- Account transitions between solution architect and FDE, with exit criteria and runbooks
- Non-P0 escalations to engineering teams, tracked and burned down weekly
- Customer patterns and gaps flowing into the product roadmap
- Drive cross-team programs for our largest customers. Coordinate multi-team efforts such as dedicated-capacity rollouts, cluster migrations, capacity reservations and large customer launches. Bring together various teams so these run on a plan, not on heroics.
- Reduce toil and protect platform time. Track where engineering time goes: incidents another team owns, manual routing and config changes, after-hours pages. Work with engineering leads to remove the biggest sources of obstacles, so FDEs keep 30% of their time for shaping the platform.
- Own the metrics. Build and report the metrics scorecard (account health, response times, toil, load per engineer, team health) to leadership.
- Help us scale the team. Drive programs like new-hire enablement and certification, account load balancing, and run book coverage. Partner with Recruiting on hiring operations as we grow.
- Manage risk and dependencies. Maintain a clear-eyed view of cross-team dependencies and risks; surface them early, drive mitigation, and keep leadership informed with honest, signal-rich updates.
- Communicate up, down, and across. Translate between deeply technical teams and senior leadership. Run effective program reviews and write the kind of crisp statuses that let busy people make fast decisions.
REQUIREMENTS
- 5+ years as a TPM (or engineer turned TPM) on infrastructure, cloud or customer-facing technical programs
- Technical depth: you’re comfortable with ML Infra systems, Kubernetes, GPUs and distributed systems, and can follow an incident channel or a design doc without a translator. Experience with LLM inference is a strong plus.
- You’ve run programs across many teams at once and kept them moving without formal authority
- Calm in the middle of an escalation: you bring structure to chaos and close the loop
- You write clearly and concisely, for engineers and for execs
- High ownership, and you’d rather fix the process than work around it
NICE-TO-HAVES
- Experience working on AI / ML Infra stack.
- Background in solutions engineering, SRE or forward-deployed teams
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
- In your first few months, you'll have taken ownership of one or more in-flight programs, established the operating rhythm they were missing, and built the trust that makes teams want you in the room.
- Within a year, the programs you run are the ones leadership doesn't worry about, because the structure is clear, the risks are visible early, and the follow-ups always close.
BENEFITS
- Competitive compensation, including meaningful equity
- (U.S. only) 100% coverage of medical, dental, and vision insurance for employee and dependents
- Flexible PTO policy including company wide Winter Break (our offices are closed from Christmas Eve to New Year's Day!)
- Paid parental leave
- Fertility and family-building stipend through Carrot
- (U.S. only) Company-facilitated 401(k)
- Exposure to a variety of ML startups, offering unparalleled learning and networking opportunities.
Apply now to embark on a rewarding journey in shaping the future of AI! If you are a motivated individual with a passion for machine learning and a desire to be part of a collaborative and forward-thinking team, we would love to hear from you.
At Baseten, we are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. We provide equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants without regard to race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, genetic information, disability, or veteran status.
We are an Equal Opportunity Employer and will consider qualified applicants with criminal histories in a manner consistent with applicable law (by example, the requirements of the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, where applicable).
