We are building AI to simulate the world through merging art and science.
We believe that world models are at the frontier of progress in artificial intelligence. Language models alone won’t solve the world’s hardest problems – robotics, disease, scientific discovery. Real progress requires models that experience the world and learn from their mistakes, the same way that humans do. And this kind of trial and error can be massively accelerated when done in simulation, rather than in the real world.
World models offer the most clear path to general-purpose simulation, changing how stories are told, how scientific progress is made and how the next frontiers of humanity are reached.
Our team consists of creative, open minded, caring and ambitious people who are determined to change the world. We aspire to continuously build impossible things and our ability to do so relies on building an incredible team. If you are driven to do the same, we'd love to hear from you.
*Titles posted to our careers page are updated regularly to best advertise the role and expected seniority, but internally we have a flat titling system with two types of titles: one for individual contributors and one for people managers.
ABOUT THE ROLE
*Open to candidates based near our NYC office or those willing to relocate.
Building general world models — systems that understand and simulate reality across tasks, modalities, and domains — requires closing the loop between learned representations and real-world action. We're looking for a Robotics Engineer to bring our video-native foundation models onto real hardware: deploying world-model-based policies on real robots and making them work in the real world.
You will work across the full stack of robot learning — from data collection and task design, to policy deployment, to physical evaluation. This is a hands-on, execution-oriented role at the intersection of foundation models, learned robot policies, and hardware. You'll bring deep robotics domain expertise and help us ship world-model-based robot policies end-to-end, with applications ranging from manipulation to mobile robotics.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Own the deployment loop for learned policies (VLAs, diffusion policies, World Action Models) on real robot arms: inference serving, action decoding, controller integration, latency budgets, and safety limits
- Diagnose real-world policy failures — determining whether the problem is data coverage, camera/proprioception mismatch, or execution — and partner with the research team to fix it at the right layer
- Design demonstration data collection protocols (task setup, camera placement, teleop conventions) that produce data our world models can actually learn from — working with our existing teleop and lab infrastructure
- Partner with research to run controlled experiments connecting world model representations, data composition, and fine-tuning recipes to physical success rates
- Define and run physical evaluation protocols so results are trustworthy and comparable across policy iterations
- Adapt our policy recipe to partner hardware and new embodiments
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- You have personally deployed software on real robot hardware and iterated to make it work — whether learned policies, motion planning, classical control, or perception-driven manipulation. You can walk through a specific system you shipped, what broke on the physical robot that didn't break in sim or testing, and how you fixed it.
- Fluency in the software-to-robot interface: action/command spaces, control frequencies, observation pipelines, calibration, and how each affects real-world behavior
- Comfort working at the intersection of software and physical systems: you can reconfigure a robot workspace and trace a policy failure in the same afternoon
- Bonus: direct experience deploying learned policies (VLAs, diffusion policies) on real hardware; experience with video/multimodal generative models or world models

An overview of this role
As an Senior AI Engineer at GitLab, you'll help build the foundation for GitLab's transformation into an AI-first company. Reporting to the Director, Enterprise AI, you'll be a hands-on technical leader responsible for delivering internal AI-powered solutions that drive measurable business outcomes.
Building fast matters, but it's not enough on its own. This role starts with understanding the real problem: mapping how work moves across teams, tools, and handoffs, identifying the true constraint, and validating whether AI is the right solution before you begin development. From there, you'll take ownership from discovery through deployment, combining strong engineering skills with systems thinking and business understanding.
Your initial focus will span Sales, Marketing, and Customer Support, where you will embed AI solutions into key systems and workflows. This role offers the opportunity to shape how GitLab team members work, improve flow across the organization, and help advance our mission in a remote, asynchronous, and values-driven environment.
What you'll do
Diagnose business problems before building solutions. Map workflows, identify constraints, and confirm whether AI is the right intervention. Be prepared to say "this doesn't need AI" when that's the honest answer.
Own AI initiatives end-to-end, from stakeholder discovery and technical design through implementation, deployment, and iteration.
Design, develop, and ship AI-powered solutions quickly, delivering working prototypes in days, not months, with a focus on practical outcomes and measurable business value.
Improve organizational flow by building solutions that reduce bottlenecks, shorten lead times, and increase throughput. Measure success using flow metrics alongside adoption and ROI.
Integrate AI capabilities into existing systems and workflows using APIs, orchestration tools, and modern AI platforms, including GitLab Duo Agent Platform, where appropriate. The right tool wins, whether that's custom code, a platform, or a well-crafted prompt.
Be Customer Zero: leverage and showcase GitLab's AI offerings wherever possible, feeding real-world usage insights back to R&D.
Partner closely with stakeholders across functions to understand the real constraints. Ask the right questions, bridge technical and non-technical perspectives, and align on outcomes before jumping to solutions.
Define and track success through business metrics, flow metrics, and feedback loops that make performance visible and actionable.
Contribute to technical direction by evaluating tools, documenting patterns, and creating reusable foundations that help the team scale its impact.
What you'll bring
A Technologist at Heart -
Genuinely invested in technology, the foundational and the cutting-edge in equal measure. You're as energised by a well-designed API integration as you are by the latest foundation model release. You reach for the simplest solution that solves the problem well, rather than forcing new technology when proven approaches would do. AI is a powerful part of your toolkit, but it sits on top of solid engineering fundamentals, not in place of them.
Competent, Confident Coding Skills -
You can build working solutions end-to-end, write clean and maintainable code, and debug effectively. Whether your skills were honed in a traditional engineering role, through building automations, or shipping side projects, what matters is that you can deliver production-quality work independently.
AI
& LLM
Technical Depth -
Strong proficiency in at least one modern scripting language (Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or similar) and a solid understanding of REST APIs, GraphQL, and integration patterns. Deep, practical experience with modern AI technologies, specifically: Prompt engineering as a core discipline: designing effective system prompts, managing context windows, structuring multi-turn interactions, evaluating output quality, and iterating systematically on prompt design.
Model selection and cost-performance trade-offs:
understanding when a smaller fine-tuned model outperforms a general-purpose large one, when RAG is the right architecture versus expanding the context window, and how to make principled decisions about capability versus cost.
Agentic architecture patterns:
tool use, multi-agent orchestration, human-in-the-loop designs, guardrails, evaluation frameworks, and production-grade reliability patterns.Practical fluency across the LLM ecosystem: hands-on experience with models from Anthropic, OpenAI, open-source alternatives, and the judgment to know which to reach for and when.
AI Safety & Risk Awareness -
You think critically about how the solutions you build could be exploited, misused, or produce unintended consequences. You know how to design appropriate guardrails (input validation, output filtering, access controls, prompt injection defences, and data leakage prevention) and you treat these as first-class engineering concerns.
Systems Thinking & Diagnostic Rigour -
The ability to look at a complex process and see the constraint. Comfortable mapping how work flows end-to-end, identifying bottlenecks, and tracing problems to root causes before proposing solutions. You instinctively ask "what's actually blocking flow here?" before asking "what model should I use?"
Business System Expertise -
Familiarity with the landscape of enterprise business systems, CRM (Salesforce), marketing automation (Marketo), support platforms (Zendesk), integration and orchestration tools (Workato), AI platforms (Relevance AI), and enterprise search and knowledge tools (Glean). You don't need deep experience with all of these, but to understand what they do, how they fit together, and be willing to build with and across them. A strong understanding of enterprise data models and workflows is essential.
Broad Functional Understanding -
Ability to have meaningful conversations with stakeholders across diverse domains and quickly understand their unique needs.
End-to-End Ownership -
Track record of owning complex initiatives from discovery through delivery. Comfortable operating with ambiguity and driving to measurable outcomes independently.
Product Mindset -
Ability to scope MVPs, prioritise ruthlessly, and deliver iteratively. In addition, consider adoption, user experience, and business outcomes.
Preferred requirements
Experience with GitLab platform and CI/CD workflows
Background in consulting, solutions engineering, or customer-facing technical roles
Familiarity with value stream mapping, flow metrics, or Theory of Constraints thinking
Experience with low-code/no-code orchestration tools (n8n, Make, Workato) alongside custom development
Previous startup or high-growth company experience
Experience mentoring or leading technical projects with junior engineers
About the team
You will join the Enterprise Technology & AI team. We're the backbone of the organisation, driving transformation in how GitLab team members make decisions, operate at scale, and deliver results for our customers.
We believe the best AI solutions start with understanding the system, not the technology. We value people who think in constraints and flow, who build with conviction, and who never stop learning. We work in an all-remote, asynchronous setting, guided by GitLab's values of collaboration, results, efficiency, diversity, inclusion and belonging, iteration, and transparency.

Synthesia is the world’s leading AI video platform for business, used by over 90% of the Fortune 100. Founded in 2017, the company is headquartered in London, with offices and teams across Europe and the US.
As AI continues to shape the way we live and work, Synthesia develops products to enhance visual communication and enterprise skill development, helping people work better and stay at the center of successful organizations.
Following our recent Series E funding round, where we raised $200 million, our valuation stands at $4 billion. Our total funding exceeds $530 million from premier investors including Accel, NVentures (Nvidia's VC arm), Kleiner Perkins, GV, and Evantic Capital, alongside the founders and operators of Stripe, Datadog, Miro, and Webflow.
THE OPPORTUNITY
At Synthesia we really care about video generation, especially about human centric avatar video generation. This led us to release models such as EXPRESS-Video https://synthesiaresearch.github.io/express-video/, and soon our latest video model - these are the best avatar video models in the world, and we are committed to continuing and double down our efforts in leading that area. Our goal is to get to human centric video models that can generate arbitrary long videos at high resolution with arbitrary actions and events. That means continuously training large generative video models from scratch with the proprietary data pipelines and compute infrastructure to support it at scale. We are looking for a technical leader who owns the full stack end-to-end, someone who bridges pre-training and post-training, sets long-term direction alongside research leadership, and is personally present at the hardest parts of the work. If building foundation model capability from the ground up at a company genuinely committed to leading the field sounds like the right next challenge, this role was written for you.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Synthesia's video generation capability is core to everything we ship. It involves roughly 15 people working daily across pre-training and post-training stages, and the complexity of coordinating across those stages, at the scale of compute and data we now operate, requires a different kind of technical leadership.
We're looking for a Principal Research Engineer (L7) to own the full technical stack for offline video generation. This is a senior individual contributor position with outsized scope and influence. You'll partner directly with research leadership and team leads to define long-term strategy, resolve the hardest cross-cutting technical problems, and raise the bar for how quickly research reaches product.
The person we're looking for has trained large generative models from scratch, not supervised it from a distance, but done it, debugged it, and shipped it. More than that, they're driven by a genuine ambition to push what's possible in video generation, and they care deeply about seeing that work land in product and reach users.
What you'll do
- Own the end-to-end technical direction for offline video generation, spanning pre-training and post-training, resolving the artificial boundary between those two stages in service of shipping better models faster.
- Partner with research leadership and team leads to define a unified long-term roadmap, broken into achievable objectives, and drive execution against it.
- Identify the most critical technical gaps across the video generation pipeline and jump in to unblock them, whether that means architectural decisions, training stability, post-training alignment, or cross-team coordination.
- Increase the velocity at which research ships to product: accelerate problem-solving, improve research-to-production handoffs, and increase visibility of research output in partnership with PMs.
- Coach and elevate more junior researchers and engineers toward senior technical thinking and execution.
- Help shape team structure and refine processes to enable high-velocity, cohesive execution across research.
You'll thrive in this role if you have
- A proven track record training large-scale video generation models from scratch, across multiple nodes, at the scale of millions of hours of data.
- Deep experience with post-training techniques at scale: RLHF, GRPO, DPO, and the judgment to know when and how to apply them.
- A proven track record data quality and you are not reluctant to question it.
- The ability to think strategically about multi-year research direction and execute hands-on at the frontier of what the team is building.
- Strong cross-functional influence: you shape how teams work together without needing positional authority to do it.
- A leadership style grounded in technical involvement. You lead by example, inspire through craft, and communicate with clarity.
- Genuine hunger to unlock new capabilities and an obsession with shipping. You're not satisfied by research that stays in a notebook. You want it in the hands of users.
Particularly relevant experience
- Having owned a major model generation or capability jump end-to-end, from training runs through to product deployment.
- Working across both pre-training and post-training stages on the same model family, with direct accountability for the outcomes of both.
- Experience operating at scale: large distributed training runs, significant compute budgets, and multi-million hour data pipelines.
- Applying alignment and fine-tuning techniques in a video or multimodal context, not just text.
- Experience with human feedback pipelines applied to generative video or audio.
- Leading or significantly influencing the technical direction of a research team while remaining hands-on.
Dealbreakers
We will not be a good fit if you prefer to lead without staying technically involved, or if clear and direct communication across research and product isn't one of your strengths. This role requires presence at the frontier of the work, not above it. And if shipping doesn't excite you as much as the research itself, this probably isn't the right role.

Salary: $180,000 – $230,000 / year
Location: UK, London
Workplace: OnSite
Here at Humanoid, we believe in a future where robots amplify human potential. That’s why we’ve set out on a mission to build the world’s most capable, commercially-scalable, and safe humanoid robots. We’re bringing that mission to life with HMND‑01 - our rapidly developed humanoid platform being deployed in real industrial environments - and we’re growing the team to take it even further.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a Senior Hardware Test Engineer to own the test methodology for HMND‑01’s hardware components, robot subsystems, and complete humanoid robots. You will be the engineer who decides what “good” looks like — from a single actuator on the bench to a full robot walking through an integration sequence.
This is a hands-on, technical leadership role. You will design test methods, run them yourself on early prototypes, and partner closely with the test automation team, Manufacturing Engineering, Production Operations, and Supply Chain Quality as we move from EVT toward production. You’ll be the hardware voice that shapes what gets measured on the line, at what tolerance, and why — without owning the QC routine or rig build, which sit with Production Ops Quality and Manufacturing Engineering respectively.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. TEST METHOD DEFINITION
- Component-Level Methods: Define functional, performance, and stress tests for individual hardware components — actuators, sensors, electronics, structural parts — including pass/fail criteria and required data capture.
- Subsystem Testing: Design integration tests for major robot subsystems (arms, hands, legs, torso, head) covering kinematic accuracy, repeatability, load behavior, and thermal response.
- Whole-Robot Testing: Define and execute system-level tests for full robot assemblies, including end-to-end motion sequences, balance, manipulation tasks, and failure-mode behavior.
2. HANDS-ON TEST EXECUTION
- Prototype Bring-up: Be the first engineer to put hands on each new hardware revision, characterizing performance against design intent and feeding findings back to the design team.
- Failure Analysis: Investigate failures during testing, work with hardware engineers to root-cause issues, and verify fixes.
- Test Documentation: Capture methods, results, and learnings in a way that the rest of the organization can repeat and trust.
3. AUTOMATION SUPPORT
- Test Automation Inputs: Translate manual test methods into specifications for the automation team. Decide which tests can be automated and which must remain manual, and why.
- Tooling: Specify and prototype custom test fixtures, jigs, and instrumentation needed to execute your methods reliably during prototype and bring-up work.
- Data: Define what each test must capture so that automated runs produce results comparable to your manual baseline.
4. PRODUCTION TEST — IN PARTNERSHIP WITH MANUFACTURING ENGINEERING AND PRODUCTION OPS
- Requirements for Line Rigs & Jigs: Provide the technical requirements for production test jigs, fixtures, and test beds — what they measure, at what tolerance, what data they need to capture, and the pass/fail criteria. Manufacturing Engineering owns rig design, build, and commissioning; you review designs and sign off on whether they actually verify what they’re meant to verify.
- In-Process Verification: Define the checks at each stage of assembly that confirm components and sub-assemblies have been built correctly before they move to the next station, including required measurements and rework paths for failures.
- Test Evidence & Traceability: Define what each production test must capture so that results, measurements, and pass/fail outcomes are written to the production database, linked to the serial number of the unit under test — every shipped robot has a complete and queryable build and test history.
- System-Level Acceptance: Define final-product acceptance tests — performance envelopes, functional gates, and sign-off criteria for a robot leaving the line.
5. QUALITY & DESIGN FEEDBACK LOOP — IN PARTNERSHIP WITH SUPPLY CHAIN QUALITY AND PRODUCTION OPS QUALITY
- Component Performance Characteristics: Define the system-level performance characteristics that incoming parts must meet. Supply Chain Quality translates these into incoming inspection criteria and supplier qualification plans, and runs the inspection process.
- Root-Cause Partnership: Partner with Production Ops Quality on root-cause analysis when line failures trace back to component behavior or system design, and feed findings back into engineering.
- Closed Loop with Design: Treat test data as a closed loop with design — surface trends from production into design reviews so the product gets better, not just the process.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must-Have:
- Experience: 5+ years in hardware test engineering, with hands-on testing of complex electromechanical systems — robotics, automotive, aerospace, or similar.
- Test Methodology: Strong grasp of test theory, test design, and pass/fail criteria definition. You can write a test spec that another engineer can execute without follow-up questions.
- Mechanical: Solid understanding of mechanical design principles, common core components (gears, bearings, actuators), measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, load cells, encoders), and technical drawings including GD&T basics.
- Electrical: Comfortable reading schematics, using a multimeter and oscilloscope, and reasoning about basic power and signal integrity.
- Production Fluency: Familiarity with hardware production operations — flow, takt, work instructions, traveler documentation — enough to collaborate effectively with Manufacturing Engineering and Production Ops without trying to own their work.
- Tooling: Experience with test and task tracking systems (Jira, X-Ray, TestRail, or similar).
- Matrix Operating Style: Comfortable influencing test stations, rigs, and equipment design through clear requirements and tight partnership, not through ownership.
- Mindset: Systems thinking — you naturally see how a problem at the component level can manifest as a behavior at the full-robot level.
Nice-to-Have:
- Robotics experience, especially with serial-link manipulators or legged systems.
- Hands-on test rig and fixture design experience (mechanical and/or electrical) — useful for speaking the same language as Manufacturing Engineering on rig requirements.
- Python (or similar) for ad-hoc data analysis and lightweight test automation.
- CAD (SolidWorks/Fusion/NX) for sketching test fixtures.
- Familiarity with ROS2.
- Experience with embedded systems and field buses such as CAN or EtherCAT.
- Experience with industrial automation equipment (servos, gateways, sensors, PLCs).
- Knowledge of statistical quality control fundamentals (SPC, MSA) — for working effectively with Quality on test data interpretation.
WHAT YOU'LL BE TESTING
- Actuators (motors, gearboxes, encoders, drivers)
- Robot manipulators and end-effectors
- Legged subsystems and balance behaviors
- Power and battery systems
- Full humanoid robot assemblies

Deal Strategy & Structuring
- Structure complex multi-year, multi-product deals with confidence, modelling ARR, TCV and PPU trade-offs across seat tiers, platform fees and discount scenarios
- Approve discount and non-standard term exceptions within your delegated authority without Manager review, and document your reasoning, including for the ones you decline
- Spot structuring risks the AE/CSM did not flag, and map pricing decisions to ARR impact, retention risk and GTM incentive alignment
- Act as the go-to DealHub (CPQ) expert for the EMEA field, answering configuration and pricing questions directly instead of routing them upward
- Peer-review Specialist deal summaries and approval decisions before they reach the field
Order Management & Booking Integrity
- Own the review and booking of signed EMEA deals. Validate contract terms, dates, SKUs and pricing against the order form, and resolve non-standard order structures with judgement rather than escalation
- Approve non-standard booking structures and release blocked orders within your delegated authority
- Work upstream: tell Deal Strategy colleagues and AEs while a deal is still being negotiated if a structure will be unbookable or will create a revenue recognition problem
- Review Specialist bookings ahead of close and sign off their reconciliations
- Manage the month-end close reconciliation for EMEA rather than performing one step of it, and be accountable for Speed to Month Close
- Find the root cause of booking errors and remove the whole category. Build the control that prevents the error class, not just the fix for one instance
Governance & Analysis
- Be the named owner of at least one durable asset, for example a pricing model, the approval matrix, an exception log domain, the order validation rule set or the close reconciliation checklist
- Build and interpret your own analysis instead of requesting it: approval volumes, exception categories, rejection reasons, discount distribution, deal composition, and error categories by root cause
- Quantify recurring patterns (magnitude, source, period) and put policy or control updates in place within your authority, escalating only true architecture questions
- Own one improvement project per quarter with a named, measurable outcome, normally an OKR key result you already own
Stakeholder Partnership
- Act as a commercial co-pilot to EMEA VPs and Directors, joining forecast calls and raising commercial risk before it reaches the inbox
- Explain the why behind approval decisions, and hold the line on a declined exception without damaging the relationship
- Build trust across Finance, Revenue Accounting, Billing, FP&A, Sales Comp and Legal. Be known as the person who unblocks orders, not the person who rejects them
- Run Deal Desk 101 for new AE/CSM joiners within their first 30 days, plus refreshers when deal hygiene slips or policy changes
How We Work: The Four Pillars
01 Know Your Business. Know the EMEA deals that need strategic structuring, and what is landing this quarter that will be messy. Know what a standard deal looks like compared with a real exception, in numbers rather than instinct. Build that picture yourself instead of inheriting it from Clari.
02 Proactive Engagement. Flag risky structures and problem orders days before quarter end, not during it. Bring quantified insights to Sales leaders, for example: "40% of blocked orders last quarter trace to one missing field. Let's make it required in CPQ."
03 Build Deep Relationships. Be the first call on a commercial question, not the last resort. Earn enough credibility that Finance takes your judgement on a grey-area booking without arguing it again.
04 Be a Force Multiplier. Build at least one reusable asset the team depends on. Document booking policy in language the field can follow. Make sure what you learn doesn't stay locked in a single deal.
What We're Looking For
Experience & Technical Skills
- 4+ years in Deal Desk, Revenue Operations, Order Management or commercial finance at a B2B SaaS company, including direct experience of both deal structuring and post-signature booking
- Working knowledge of ASC 606 / IFRS 15 revenue recognition and SOX control requirements. This is required, not a nice-to-have. You can tell when a structure will create a recognition issue before it is signed
- Advanced Salesforce skills: you build your own reports and dashboards and keep opportunity and approval data accurate
- Deep CPQ experience (DealHub, Salesforce CPQ or similar), including billing configuration and how deal setup flows downstream
- Strong modelling in Excel or Google Sheets: ARR/TCV splits, multi-year and ramp scenarios, discount waterfalls
- A track record of making documented exception decisions within delegated authority
What You'll Bring
- Sound commercial judgement in grey areas, with the confidence to approve, decline or reshape a deal and explain why
- Clear, credible communication with VPs, Finance and Legal alike, including the ability to say no and be thanked for it
- Systems thinking: you fix the process, not just the ticket
- Comfort with analysis: in your hands, an insight always comes with a source
- A habit of documenting, coaching and lifting the team around you
- Experience spanning UK, DACH, Nordics and wider European deal cycles
Nice to Have
- NetSuite experience for order management, billing or month-end close
- CLM platforms (Ironclad, LinkSquares, Luminance or similar)
- AWS Marketplace or other cloud marketplace deal and booking mechanics
- Experience leading a Deal Desk, CPQ or quote-to-cash tooling implementation
- Knowledge of EMEA specifics: GDPR data processing terms, EU procurement cycles, local PO and invoicing requirements

Staff Forward Deployed Engineer, Agentic SDLC - (EMEA Only)
An overview of this role
GitLab’s Forward Deployed Engineering team is a field-situated product engineering function focused on strategic customer outcomes, artificial intelligence (AI) adoption, and direct contributions to GitLab’s product. This isn't a traditional field engineering, solutions architecture, or professional services role. As a Staff Forward Deployed Engineer, you'll work closely with customers while maintaining the technical standards and contribution discipline of a Staff-level product engineer.
You'll work where strategic customer urgency, complex technical ambiguity, and GitLab product execution intersect. You'll partner directly with strategic customers and teams across Product, Engineering, Support, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Solutions Architecture (SA), Customer Success Architecture (CSA), Customer Success Management (CSM), and Professional Services. You'll diagnose and resolve high-impact adoption blockers, contribute production-quality fixes and features, and turn what you learn into repeatable patterns for GitLab and its customers.
Why this role exists
Strategic customers sometimes encounter challenges that are too broad, deep, urgent, or cross-functional for any single team to own from start to finish. These challenges may involve product gaps, performance degradation, scale bottlenecks, AI governance, adoption blockers, architectural constraints, Git usage patterns, continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) complexity, application programming interface (API) automation, security requirements, or operational instability.
Forward Deployed Engineering provides technical stewardship in these moments. The team doesn't simply observe, report, or escalate. You'll engage directly, diagnose the underlying technical problem, collaborate with the right teams, contribute code or technical solutions where appropriate, and transition the outcome into normal ownership once the customer is stable and the learning can be reused.
What you’ll do
Product contribution
Contribute production-quality code to GitLab’s product and adjacent systems.
Develop bug fixes, features, integrations, tooling, and performance improvements when strategic customer outcomes require direct engineering work.
Work within GitLab’s product and engineering processes, including issue discovery, merge request creation, testing, review, documentation, and maintainability.
Partner with Product and Engineering so customer-driven solutions support long-term product direction rather than becoming one-off customizations.
Turn blockers discovered in the field into durable product improvements, reference architectures, documentation, and repeatable implementation patterns.
Strategic technical stewardship
Engage with strategically important customers when adoption, retention, executive confidence, or public trust is materially at risk.
Diagnose complex problems across GitLab product behavior, customer architecture, Git internals, CI/CD workflows, API usage, observability, infrastructure, networking, and cloud environments.
Coordinate across Product, Engineering, SRE, Support, SA, CSA, CSM, Professional Services, and customer technical teams to drive resolution from discovery through handoff.
Provide recommendations grounded in data, traces, and systems analysis to improve GitLab usage, workflows, automation, and architecture.
Create durable outcomes without establishing permanent dependency on Forward Deployed Engineering.
AI adoption and agentic software development lifecycle
Drive governed, measurable, and production-oriented adoption of GitLab Duo Agent Platform with strategic customers.
Identify and resolve AI adoption blockers involving governance, usage controls, auditability, security, compliance, operating models, workflow design, and integrations.
Develop customer-safe adoption patterns for the agentic software development lifecycle (SDLC), AI-assisted development, intent-based review, AI governance, and human-in-the-loop software delivery.
Partner with Product, Engineering, Field, and Customer Success teams to turn AI adoption learning into reusable guidance and product improvements.
Thought leadership
Create technical narratives grounded in customer experience and product reality that can help shape the industry’s approach.
Contribute to Well-Architected Frameworks, whitepapers, webinars, reference architectures, technical strategy memos, and adoption frameworks.
Guide ideas through discovery, formulation, validation, amplification, and adoption across GitLab.
Partner with SA, CSA, Product, Engineering, Marketing, Product Marketing Management, CSM, Support, and executive stakeholders to make technical thought leadership a shared company capability.
What you’ll bring
Staff-level experience building, operating, or improving complex production software systems.
Experience contributing to large, mature product codebases with high standards for testing, maintainability, performance, and security.
Strong Ruby on Rails or Go experience and the ability to contribute directly to GitLab’s product and adjacent systems.
Experience with AI-assisted software development, agentic workflows, AI governance, model evaluation, context management, prompt and workflow design, or AI adoption in enterprise environments.
Experience diagnosing complex system behavior across application code, data stores, infrastructure, observability, networking, APIs, and customer usage patterns.
Deep knowledge of modern DevSecOps workflows, including Git, merge requests, CI/CD, security controls, compliance needs, and enterprise software delivery.
Experience working with strategic customers or senior technical stakeholders in ambiguous, high-impact situations.
The ability to coordinate across product, engineering, field, and customer teams without formal authority.
Strong written communication and sound judgment, including the ability to create technical narratives and distinguish reusable product work from customer-specific customization.
Strongly preferred qualifications
Direct experience with GitLab as a platform, including GitLab.com, GitLab Dedicated, or GitLab Self-Managed.
Production experience with Ruby on Rails, Go, PostgreSQL, Redis, Sidekiq, Vue, TypeScript, Kubernetes, Docker, Linux, or observability tools.
Deep familiarity with Git internals, repository performance, large-scale Git usage patterns, or GitLab Runner behavior.
Experience creating technical thought-leadership materials, such as whitepapers, technical talks, architecture frameworks, requests for comments, public technical writing, or internal strategy documents.
A background in performance engineering, site reliability engineering, platform engineering, infrastructure engineering, or distributed systems.
Experience working in open source or highly asynchronous engineering environments.

What this role is not
This role isn't:
A generic field engineering role.
A proof-of-concept factory.
A replacement for Solutions Architecture, Customer Success Architecture, Customer Success Management, Professional Services, Support, SRE, Product, or Engineering.
A customer-specific customization function.
Unbilled Professional Services.
A requirements-gathering role that only escalates to Product.

Stabilizing strategic customer adoption or retention risks.
Fixing product bugs or contributing features.
Removing AI adoption blockers for strategic accounts.
Creating reusable implementation patterns and transitioning them to long-term owners.
Producing or enabling Well-Architected Frameworks, whitepapers, webinars, or technical narratives.
Resolving cross-functional customer challenges without creating permanent dependency on Forward Deployed Engineering.
Equipping Product, Engineering, Support, CSA, CSM, Professional Services, and SA teams with better guidance based on learning from the field.
Increasing adoption and effective use of GitLab capabilities, especially GitLab Duo and GitLab Duo Agent Platform, in targeted accounts.
About the team
The Forward Deployed Engineering team connects strategic customer needs with GitLab product execution. The team works directly with customers and across GitLab to resolve complex adoption challenges, contribute durable product improvements, and create reusable technical guidance. Its goal is to stabilize urgent situations, improve the product, and transition ongoing ownership to the appropriate team rather than create a permanent dependency.
Ideal candidate profile
You're a Staff-level product or platform engineer who can operate in the field without becoming field-only. You're comfortable reading traces, writing production code, debugging architecture, discussing AI governance, leading a customer technical session, opening a merge request, outlining a whitepaper, and coordinating across teams to achieve a strategic customer outcome.
You're not simply a strong communicator with technical awareness. You're a credible engineer with the judgment, presence, and narrative ability to turn customer reality into product contributions, adoption guidance, and company-level thought leadership.

We’re looking for a Principal Engineer to join the ML Platform team at Synthesia.
Our team builds and operates the systems that allow researchers and product teams to train, serve, and deploy generative models reliably and efficiently. This includes research infrastructure, production serving systems, internal tooling, and the platform interfaces that connect them. A growing part of our mission is making these systems more automation-friendly and agent-oriented, so that workflows can increasingly be operated through reliable tooling rather than manual effort.
We’re looking for a strong generalist with a systems mindset:
- someone who is comfortable working across infrastructure, backend systems, and tooling, and who has seen ML systems in practice.
- this is not a pure ML Engineer role. We’re especially interested in people who think deeply about reliability, scalability, performance, and resource efficiency in complex production environments.
This is a hands-on IC role with significant ownership. You’ll help shape how our ML platform evolves as we scale the number of models, workloads, tools and teams relying on it.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Design and improve the platform systems that support model training, evaluation, and production serving.
- Build infrastructure and tooling that make ML workloads more reliable, scalable, and cost-efficient.
- Develop internal tools and workflows that are easy to operate both by humans and by agents.
- Work on the architecture behind how models are deployed, served, and operated across research and product environments.
- Improve how we schedule, monitor, and debug workloads running on GPUs and cloud infrastructure.
- Develop internal tools and abstractions and agentic systems that reduce operational overhead for researchers and engineers.
- Drive improvements across observability, automation, reliability, and developer experience.
- Collaborate closely with researchers and product engineers to understand pain points and turn them into robust platform capabilities.
- Contribute to technical direction and make pragmatic architectural tradeoffs as the platform grows.
YOU’LL THRIVE IN THIS ROLE IF YOU HAVE
- Strong experience building or operating production systems with a focus on reliability, scalability, and maintainability.
- A systems mindset: you naturally think in terms of bottlenecks, failure modes, interfaces, resource usage, and long-term operability.
- Solid hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, Linux, and infrastructure automation.
- Experience with Kubernetes and operating distributed workloads in production.
- Strong coding skills, ideally in Python or similar languages used for backend systems and tooling.
- Strong judgment around where automation adds leverage, and where human control and reliability matter most.
- Experience building internal platforms, developer tooling, or infrastructure abstractions used by other engineers.
- Comfort working in ambiguous environments and taking ownership of open-ended technical problems.
- A pragmatic approach: you care about solving the right problem well, not over-engineering.
PARTICULARLY RELEVANT EXPERIENCE
- Operating ML infrastructure or model serving systems in production.
- Supporting research or data-intensive workloads.
- Working with GPU-based systems or other performance-sensitive infrastructure.
- Experience with observability and debugging in distributed systems.
- Familiarity with Terraform, Datadog, GitHub Actions, or similar tools.
BONUS POINTS FOR
- Experience building agentic or LLM-powered internal tools.
- Experience with workflow orchestration systems such as Temporal.
- Experience working at the boundary between research and production engineering.
- Familiarity with performance optimization, scheduling, or resource allocation problems.
- Experience building lightweight product or developer-facing tools.

As a Staff Backend Engineer in the
Developer Experience
group, you’ll work cross-functionally to help us identify and improve the engineering experience across GitLab’s internal engineering teams. We’re at a pivotal time in transforming our testing approach and development experience to enable engineers to deliver high-quality code efficiently and with confidence.
Developer Experience
currently has six, globally distributed teams of Backend Engineers and Software Engineers in Test. This role will work across the entire group to help us identify and remove the biggest points of friction that affect development at GitLab. Expect to split your time between hands-on coding in Ruby and Go, designing scalable solutions and helping every team deliver. You’ll be instrumental in shaping our engineering culture across GitLab.
This is a highly visible role with strong company-wide support. You’ll be instrumental in shifting our culture and practices toward a cohesive Developer Experience Platform strategy—backed by buy-in and appetite for change.
Some examples of our projects
Project Examples
In this role, you may lead projects such as:
Internal developer platform adoption:
Build and evolve platform capabilities that make it easier for engineering teams to create, deploy, operate, and scale services on Kubernetes.
Kubernetes-based service onboarding:
Define reusable service templates, deployment workflows, configuration patterns, and operational guardrails for teams adopting the platform.
Developer workflows and test environments:
Build development, CI, and test environments that reflect production Kubernetes behavior — including third-party operators and the custom resources services depend on — sequencing CRD establishment, controller readiness, and dependent workloads so engineers get a working environment rather than a partially reconciled one, across both local and remote clusters.
Platform reliability and observability:
Partner with infrastructure and service teams to improve rollout safety, troubleshooting, service health, resource management, and operational visibility across Kubernetes workloads.
What You'll Do
Lead and grow a team responsible for developer tooling and internal platform capabilities used by engineering teams to build and operate services.
Set and execute a roadmap for Kubernetes-based developer workflows, balancing developer experience, platform reliability, security, and operational efficiency.
Guide the design of reusable onboarding and deployment patterns for services running on Kubernetes, including workloads, networking, configuration and secrets, identity, storage, observability, progressive delivery, and the custom resources and controllers that services depend on.
Make environment bring-up and teardown deterministic — resolving readiness and ordering dependencies between CRDs, controllers, and the workloads that rely on them — so engineers get reproducible environments instead of intermittent failures.
Partner with infrastructure, security, and application teams to turn Kubernetes capabilities into simple, well-supported workflows rather than requiring every service team to become a Kubernetes expert.
Establish engineering standards, documentation, automation, and feedback loops that improve adoption and reduce the time required to bring a service from development to production.
Coach engineers through architectural decisions, incident follow-up, and production operations while maintaining a clear focus on sustainable team delivery.
Represent the team with technical and organizational stakeholders, communicate tradeoffs clearly, and use adoption and reliability measures to guide prioritization.
What You'll Bring
Deep experience building developer tooling, DevEx platforms, testing frameworks, or CI/CD systems at scale.
Strong hands-on Go experience designing, implementing, testing, and operating production-quality services, command-line tools, automation, or platform tooling. Experience contributing to Ruby-based systems is also valuable for this role.
Practical Kubernetes experience building or operating production workloads and platform capabilities, including deployments, services, networking, configuration and secrets, observability, resource management, and troubleshooting.
Depth in Kubernetes deployment lifecycle: Helm-based deployment and release management, kubeconfig and multi-cluster context handling including deploying into clusters you don't own, and integrating third-party operators and their custom resources (CloudNativePG, cert-manager and similar) into working environments — including the readiness and ordering problems that come with them: waiting on CRD establishment, controller availability, and custom resources reaching their own definition of ready. Experience authoring a controller or operator is useful but not required.
Experience designing scalable solutions that improve engineering productivity, test reliability, development environments, or delivery workflows across multiple teams.
Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership and influence without authority across engineering, infrastructure, security, and product functions.
Familiarity with DevOps workflows, CI/CD pipelines, release automation, and production operations.
Strong written and verbal communication skills in a remote-first environment.
A product mindset with a passion for empowering developers through simple, reliable, and well-documented workflows.
Alignment with GitLab values, especially collaboration, iteration, and transparency.

WHO ARE WE?
Cohere is the leading security-first enterprise AI company. We build cutting-edge foundation AI models and end-to-end products that are designed to solve real-world business problems.
We’re training and deploying frontier models for enterprises who are building AI systems. We believe that our work is instrumental to the widespread adoption of AI and we are looking for folks that want to be part of that.
We obsess over what we build. Each one of us is responsible for contributing to increasing the capabilities of our models and the value they drive for our customers. Cohere is a team of researchers, engineers, designers, and more, who are all passionate about their craft.
We are a global technology company headquartered in Toronto with key offices in London, New York City, San Francisco, Montreal, Paris, Berlin and Seoul. Join us!
Why this role?
We're building the foundational infrastructure that will define how the world thinks about and deploys AI, and we want the sharpest, most curious people to help us do it. As a Lead Data Scientist on our Analytics and Data Insights team, you'll tackle problems that don't have textbook answers yet; shaping go-to-market strategy for technology that's still being invented, designing the experiments that prove or kill our biggest bets, and helping enterprises understand what foundational AI actually means for their bottom line. You'll own the full analytical lifecycle, from framing the right questions and building the models, to leading a team that delivers answers leadership can act on.
As a Lead Data Scientist, you will:
- Drive the mission forward.
- Own the science: design and lead experimentation programs including A/B tests, multi-armed bandits, causal inference studies, that directly map to product and go-to-market decisions.
- Build predictive models that matter: develop and deploy models for forecasting, segmentation, propensity scoring, and opportunity sizing across Cohere's core business lines.
- Lead and grow a team: manage a team of analysts and data scientists. Set the technical bar, mentor aggressively, and create an environment where exceptional people do their best work.
- Act like an owner: no waiting around. You'll define analytical priorities, allocate resources, and push initiatives from question to production.
- Shape strategy: partner across product, research, sales, and finance to define how Cohere grows. Your team's work will get built into products and implemented into strategy.
You may be a good fit, if you have:
- Strong command of SQL, Python, and Git, alongside deep expertise in statistical inference, experimental design, and predictive modeling
- A proven ability to turn ambiguous business questions into rigorous analytical problems, with clear and compelling recommendations to match
- Experience leading analytics or data science teams, with a track record of making smart people faster
- Familiarity with modern data stack tools such as BigQuery, dbt, Looker, or Airflow (nice to have, not essential)
- Genuine excitement about AI - you follow the research, have opinions, and enjoy being in the weeds
- Comfort operating in ambiguity, managing complex multi-workstream roadmaps, and distilling insights into a concise, actionable narrative
- A leadership style grounded in empathy as much as in data
