Impact of a Billing Systems Architect
As an Enterprise Billing Systems Architect at Upsun, you are the technical anchor of our billing infrastructure, playing a vital role in ensuring our revenue operations, pricing structures, and financial integrations run seamlessly as our business scales. Picking up primary ownership from our implementation partner, you serve as the dedicated technical lead bridging Finance, Product, and Engineering.
You’re deeply analytical, systems-minded, and collaborative—someone who thrives on translating complex business, pricing, and accounting rules into reliable system logic. Working downstream from our core engineering and data mediation teams, you ensure the integrity of our Quote-to-Cash (Q2C) platform while continuously optimizing platform performance and automation.
Beyond day-to-day platform administration, you contribute to the long-term evolution of our billing architecture—supporting new pricing model launches, complex usage rating schemes, and financial system integrations. Your attention to detail, technical versatility, and cross-functional mindset ensure our revenue pipeline remains scalable, compliant, and friction-free.
What to expect
Billing Infrastructure & Administration:
Serve as the hands-on technical owner of our BillingPlatform environment, configuring catalogs, price cards, usage rating rules, and automated invoice schedules.
System Operations & Maintenance:
Own ongoing platform health, including system updates, pricing launches, recurring bill-run troubleshooting, sync exception handling, and root-cause issue resolution.
Data Ingestion & Analysis:
Utilize SQL to perform data validation, rating engine auditing, and operational reporting while collaborating with Engineering to receive mediated usage data (e.g., via DigitalRoute or Kafka).
Integrations & API Management:
Maintain and optimize clean, API-driven integrations connecting BillingPlatform to upstream CRMs (e.g. Salesforce), downstream ERP/GL tools (e.g., NetSuite), and payment gateways (e.g., Stripe).
Revenue Recognition Alignment:
Partner closely with Accounting to ensure system rating rules, revenue schedules, and general ledger mappings satisfy ASC 606 and IFRS 15 compliance standards.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Gather technical and operational requirements directly from Accounting, Finance, Sales Ops, and Product teams, translating their vision into sustainable platform configuration.
Data Integrity & Migration:
Maintain billing data continuity and manage subscription data updates or migrations without disrupting ongoing financial operations or revenue recognition flows.
What you bring
Q2C Platform Experience:
Proven hands-on experience configuring and administering enterprise Quote-to-Cash or billing platforms (e.g., Zuora, Salesforce Revenue Cloud/CPQ, NetSuite Billing, Aria Systems, or BillingPlatform).
Data & Technical Skills:
Strong proficiency with SQL for querying and auditing billing data, alongside a solid grasp of REST APIs, webhooks, and ETL workflows.
Modern Pricing Expertise:
Experience supporting complex SaaS or infrastructure pricing models—such as PLG, hybrid commitment-plus-usage, tiered rates, and consumption-based/metered billing.
Revenue Recognition Knowledge:
Practical understanding of rev rec fundamentals (ASC 606 / IFRS 15) and how accounting rules dictate billing engine design.
Cross-Functional Communication:
Ability to bridge technical language and financial business logic, effectively collaborating with engineering teams and accounting stakeholders alike.
Problem Solving & Troubleshooting:
A methodical approach to diagnosing system sync errors, rating anomalies, and integration edge cases to ensure operational continuity.
Bonus points
Experience with DigitalRoute mediation software or Kafka event-stream data intake
Previous exposure to cloud infrastructure, PaaS, or developer-platform usage metrics
Background supporting system migrations from implementation partners into internal teams

How we're different
We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills.
The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.

About Anthropic
Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.
About the Role
As a Data Engineer on the Data Science & Analytics team, you will build the data foundation for Anthropic’s quote-to-cash lifecycle: the path a deal takes from opportunity through revenue. You will design the canonical data models so that Sales, Deal Desk, Order Management, Revenue Operations and Finance work from one governed, auditable definition of what was sold, on what terms, and where each deal stands. You will partner closely with DS&A and with GTM and Finance systems teams who own Salesforce, CPQ and billing to make quote-to-cash data reliable, well-modeled and self-serve as our business scales.
Responsibilities
Understand the data needs of Deal Desk, Order Management, Revenue Operations, Finance and Sales systems teams, and translate them into technical requirements
Design, build and own data models that transform raw Salesforce, CPQ, and billing data into canonical datasets
Establish high data integrity standards and SLAs to ensure timely, accurate delivery of data
Partner with Salesforce, CPQ and billing engineers on upstream schema changes, new fields and ingestion so the warehouse faithfully mirrors the systems of record
Build foundational data products, dashboards and tools to enable self-serve analytics to scale across GTM teams
Influence stakeholder roadmaps from a data perspective, and become the expert on Anthropic’s GTM data models and architecture
You might be a good fit if you have
5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer, Analytics Engineer or in a similar Data Science & Analytics role, ideally partnering with GTM, Revenue Operations or Finance teams.
A passion for the company's mission of building helpful, honest, and harmless AI.
Hands-on experience modeling Salesforce data and at least one adjacent quote-to-cash system: CPQ, contract lifecycle management, billing and invoicing, or ERP.
Expertise in building multi-step ETL jobs, building robust data models through tooling like dbt; proficiency with workflow management platforms like Airflow and version control management tools through GitHub.
Expertise in SQL and Python to transform data into accurate, clean data models.
Experience building data reporting and dashboarding in visualization tools like Hex to serve multiple cross-functional teams.
A bias for action and urgency, not letting perfect be the enemy of the effective.
A “full-stack mindset”, not hesitating to do what it takes to solve a problem end-to-end, even if it requires going outside the original job description.
Experience building an Analytics Data Engineering (or similar) function at start-ups.
A strong disposition to thrive in ambiguity, taking initiative to create clarity and forward progress.

QTC Experiences:
A vertically integrated team that spans quoting through to provisioning agreements, as well as customer billing experiences over the term of their agreement. You'd build the foundational systems for CPQ, order management, provisioning and billing experiences, envisioning how we make our sellers and ops teams orders of magnitude more efficient with Claude. You'll work cross-functionally with GTM, finance, accounting and other stakeholders. Your work will directly impact seller velocity and our GTM deal making capacity.
Key responsibilities
Develop and maintain Apex (triggers, services, selectors, batch/queueable), Lightning Web Components, and Flow automation following our house Apex standards and trigger framework
Design and build quote-to-cash infrastructure in Salesforce, including the product catalog and pricing data model, quote and order lifecycle, discount and approval automation, and amendment, renewal, and co-termination flows
Extend CPQ and expand into agentic selling with custom pricing and quote-calculation logic, quote and order user experiences, and code built against the package's APIs and data model
Build and own integrations between Salesforce and our billing, provisioning, and finance systems, such as Stripe, Metronome, and NetSuite, directly or via middleware
Support new product and pricing launches by modeling catalog, SKU, and pricing changes so they can be released quickly and reflected consistently in every downstream system
Use Claude and our internal AI development tooling as a first-class part of your build and code-review workflow
Partner with Business Systems analysts and Finance to ensure data-model decisions support downstream bookings, forecasting, and revenue reporting
Partner with DevOps on release management for your work: sandbox strategy, source control, peer review, and deployment via SFDX/metadata tooling
Ensure appropriate controls, test coverage, and documentation are in place for an effective control environment, particularly around pricing, discounting, and contract changes
Operate with ambiguity in a rapidly changing business, resolve problems independently, and propose solutions that scale
Minimum qualifications
Hands-on Salesforce development experience (Apex, SOQL, LWC, Flow) in a production org
Experience building or extending CPQ and quote-to-cash functionality in Salesforce (Salesforce CPQ, Revenue Cloud, Nue, or similar): product and pricing data models, quote and order lifecycle, approval automation, and amendments and renewals, including custom code written against the CPQ package rather than configuration alone
Experience integrating Salesforce with billing, ERP, or provisioning systems via REST/Bulk APIs, middleware (Workato, Mulesoft, or similar), or direct callouts
Fluency with SFDX, source-controlled metadata, and a sandbox-to-prod release process with peer review
Active use of AI-assisted development tools (Claude, Copilot, Cursor, or similar) as part of how you write and review code, and the ability to speak to how you steer and verify their output
Basic SQL skills and comfort working alongside a data warehouse
Effective communication with sales, deal desk, finance and accounting, product, and engineering stakeholders
Preferred qualifications
Salesforce Platform Developer I and II certifications
Advanced Administrator or Application/System Architect certification
Deep understanding of Salesforce platform constraints: governor limits, bulkification, sharing and visibility, recursion control, and how they surface in CPQ-specific situations such as large quotes, calculation performance, and bulk amendments
Experience implementing a CPQ solution end to end or re-platforming from one CPQ to another, not just maintaining an existing one
Experience with billing and finance platforms such as Stripe, Metronome, or Oracle, and with usage-based or consumption pricing models
Working understanding of how CPQ design decisions flow through to bookings, invoicing, and revenue recognition
Proven experience scaling Salesforce in a high-growth GTM environment

About the role
Join Anthropic as a Customer Success Manager for Life Sciences. You’ll be a strategic partner and trusted advisor to leading organizations working to accelerate scientific discovery, such as research institutes, academic medical centers, and scientific foundations. You’ll help these organizations harness the full potential of Claude through deep product expertise, use case discovery, and hands-on guidance.
You’ll be part of a Research and Life Sciences account team pod, working as one team with your Account Executive and Applied AI partners. Together you’ll shape account strategy with you taking the lead on adoption, change management, and value realization.
This role doesn’t follow a single playbook. You’ll run a range of Customer Success motions, from deep 1:1 strategic partnership to one-to-many programs like webinars, hackathons, and cohort-based enablement. You’ll choose the motion based on top account and customer priorities and the best way to solve for them.
The insights you gather will directly inform our research priorities, product development (including how Claude for Life Sciences evolves), and strategies for beneficial AI deployment. That makes you a key voice in how we build and deliver AI systems that accelerate science for the benefit of society.
Responsibilities
Build trusting, strategic relationships with research leaders, scientists, principal investigators, and program directors to understand their scientific priorities, organizational goals, and impact objectives
Partner closely with your Account Executive and Applied AI counterparts in the Research and Life Sciences pod on shared account plans, bringing in Product, Support, and other teams as needed
Run the right Customer Success motion for each account and customer priority, whether that’s dedicated 1:1 engagement, cohort-based onboarding, hackathons and build days, office hours, or researcher communities
Become an expert in Anthropic’s products, especially Claude for Science, guiding organizations and their researchers and scientists to the right solutions and most impactful use cases
Monitor usage patterns and proactively drive adoption, identifying optimization opportunities and new applications for Claude across your book of business
Develop and execute change management strategies suited to scientific and academic cultures, including Train the Trainer programs, Center of Excellence development, and enablement that respects partner capacity, governance requirements, and decision-making processes
Guide partners through the technical and governance foundation for launch, including SSO and provisioning, workspace configuration, and data handling considerations for research and health data (such as HIPAA, IRB, and institutional data policies)
Own account and success plans and run Quarterly Impact Reviews that document and quantify value realized, such as research productivity, time-to-insight, and cost savings, and partner with Marketing on success stories and reference accounts
Establish the repeatable playbooks, templates, and health metrics that define what “great” looks like for customer success in life sciences at Anthropic
You may be a good fit if you have
6+ years of experience in Customer Success, Technical Account Management, Solutions Engineering, or consulting
3+ years of experience in life sciences research, with exposure to new technologies as a catalyst for accelerating progress
Experience working directly with life sciences organizations, such as academic research institutions, research institutes, foundations, biotech, or pharma, and familiarity with how scientific research is conducted, funded, and governed
An understanding of the regulatory, risk, and compliance needs of the industry
Experience driving success across both consumption-based and seat-based business models, with an understanding of the expansion levers and success metrics for each
Experience managing dedicated strategic accounts and delivering one-to-many programs, with the judgment to choose the right motion for the customer priority at hand
Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, including working as part of an account team with Sales and technical partners and advocating effectively for customer needs
Technical fluency in AI/ML concepts, API integrations, and software implementation patterns, and the ability to explain them to audiences ranging from bench scientists and computational researchers to institutional leadership. Familiarity with scientific data types, research workflows, or bioinformatics tooling is a strong plus
A data-driven, AI-first way of working, using adoption signals to guide decisions and building Claude-powered workflows into how you engage partners
Passion for both AI and accelerating scientific progress, with a strong interest in ensuring frontier AI systems are developed safely, ethically, and deployed to benefit society
A knack for bringing order to chaos and an enthusiastic “roll up your sleeves” mentality. You are a true team player

Anthropic's Security Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) team is the connective tissue that holds the company accountable to its security and control commitments. We translate regulatory, customer, and voluntary obligations into controls that teams act on, and give leadership a bird's-eye view of how well we're meeting them. We're building toward continuous assurance, to challenge and evidence the performance of controls continuously rather than through periodic audits.
As Anthropic scales to meet public-company standards, the Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) control environment over our technology stack is one of the most consequential things this team owns. As part of Security GRC's technical controls assurance function, you will be the voice on what the IT general controls must achieve to support SOX 404 compliance. In partnership with Internal Audit, you will define control requirements and acceptance criteria for the in-scope engineering systems and infrastructure that underpin financial reporting. You will pair with engineering as they design and implement against those requirements, and validate that what ships actually meets the bar before Internal Audit and our external auditors test it. You are the product owner for control design methodology and continuous control monitoring, initially around ITGCs, but extending into other areas of security and compliance to drive visibility where and when we need it.
Key responsibilities
Define control requirements and acceptance criteria across the core ITGC domains of logical access, change management, computer operations, and program development for SOX in-scope systems, including home-built platforms where the control has to be designed into the system rather than bolted on.
Set the bar for in-scope systems from day one. As financially significant systems are built, migrated, or replaced, define what the system must provide (auditability, segregation of duties, change control, immutable logging, evidence retention) before go-live, so controls are not retrofitted after the fact.
Pressure-test changes for SOX impact during design. Review major infrastructure, system, and agent framework changes for control impact while decisions are still cheap, and maintain a clear view of which changes alter the SOX scope, key control population, or evidence requirements.
Own second-line control monitoring and evidence readiness. Stand up continuous controls monitoring and automated evidence collection for ITGCs (control testing, walkthrough preparation, population and completeness validation, and mapping to the common controls framework). Materially raise automated evidence coverage and cut audit prep time.
Drive control deficiency remediation with cross functional partners. Track and root-cause ITGC deficiencies surfaced by monitoring, Internal Audit, or external audit; partner with engineering owners on remediation design; and assess whether remediation actually closes the gap before re-testing.
Assess scope changes through a SOX lens. When new products, entities, systems, or integrations come into scope, provide technical and compliance assessment of their impact on control design, evidence requirements, and engineering effort before commitments are made.
Maintain alignment with the broader compliance portfolio. Where SOX ITGCs overlap with SOC 2, ISO 27001/42001, or other frameworks, ensure controls are designed once and evidenced once, and that changes made for one framework do not silently break another.
Minimum qualifications
Thrive at the pace of a hypergrowth company. You're comfortable making calls with incomplete information and reprioritizing as scope shifts.
Have led or been a senior contributor to an ITGC program through SOX 404 readiness and/or at a public company, with a working command of PCAOB AS 2201, COSO 2013, and how external auditors scope, test, and evaluate technology controls and deficiencies.
Have genuine engineering fluency, possibly from an earlier engineering career: you can read code and Terraform, follow a CI/CD pipeline end to end, and challenge a design on its technical merits.
Have programming skills in Python or at least one systems language such as Go, Rust, or C/C++.
Have deep familiarity with developer platform, release engineering, cloud infrastructure, or ERP/financial systems control domains.
Understand the role of the second line: you can advise and challenge engineering without taking ownership of their controls, and you know where the line sits between your monitoring and Internal Audit's independent testing.
Are a strong collaborator and communicator across Finance, Engineering, Internal Audit, and external auditors.
Use Claude and other LLMs as daily working tools, and have grounded, specific views on which SOX assurance workflows AI can run today and which it can't yet.
Translate SOX and framework language into acceptance criteria engineers can build against, and translate engineering reality back into assurance language auditors and leadership can rely on.
Default to getting the requirement designed into the system rather than papering over the gap with procedure.
Preferred qualifications
A combination of audit or advisory experience (Big 4 or equivalent, ideally IT audit) with in-house experience at an AI-forward tech company, in either order.
Taken a company through a first-year SOX 404(a) and 404(b) assessment, including a first external ITGC audit.
Defined or assessed controls over home-built financially significant systems, usage-based billing, or revenue metering pipelines.
Defined or assessed controls for AI/ML systems or agents acting in production environments.
Stood up continuous controls monitoring or automated evidence programs.
Experience with SOC 1 reliance, service organization control mapping, and complementary user entity controls.
CISSP, CISA, CPA, or equivalent certification.

We launch new products, models and pricing often, and each launch has to work in our systems on day one. A seller needs to be able to quote it, Deal Desk needs to be able to approve it, billing needs to charge for it correctly, and Finance needs to report on it. This role owns how a launch gets into our quote-to-cash systems, from the first pricing conversation to the first invoice.
We are looking for someone who treats every launch as a change across many systems. You will join launch planning early, work out what has to change across catalog, quoting, contracts, billing, tax and reporting, and get all of it ready before the launch date. You will build a good part of the Salesforce work yourself and partner with our Salesforce developers and Billing Engineering on the rest. You will be the named owner of the NPI process for systems, and the person Product, Pricing and Finance call when they want to know what it takes to launch something.
We are an AI-first systems team. You will use Claude as a normal part of how you design, build, test and document, and you will look for ways to make launches faster and more repeatable with AI.
Key responsibilities
Own the systems side of new product and pricing launches, from the first pricing discussion through launch day and the first billing cycle
Turn a pricing and packaging decision into concrete system changes: SKUs, price books, bundles, discount and approval rules, contract terms, billing plans, tax codes and reporting
Build and run a repeatable NPI playbook: intake, a readiness checklist, sign-offs, a launch calendar and a post-launch review
Join launch planning early with Product and Pricing. Push back on pricing ideas that cannot be quoted, billed or reported cleanly, and offer options that can
Design how new pricing models work end to end, including usage-based, seat-based, tiered, committed and multi-year ramp pricing, and which system is the source of truth for each part
Plan the impact on existing customers: moving customers to new SKUs, grandfathering, amendments and co-termination, and how renewals will work
Own end-of-sale and retirement of products and prices, so old SKUs leave the catalog without breaking renewals, billing or reporting
Coordinate the changes across Salesforce, billing and our tax platform, working with the teams who own each system
Partner with Deal Desk, Sales, Finance, Accounting, Tax and Legal so each team signs off on what changes for them before launch
Make sure sellers and Deal Desk are ready on launch day, including quote templates, approval paths, guidance and enablement
Check every launch after it goes live: do quotes, orders, invoices and Finance reports match? Add the control or reconciliation that catches the gaps
Build and ship declarative solutions yourself where that is the right call, and write specs clear enough that developers can build the rest without several rounds of questions
Use AI to shorten launch cycles, for example generating catalog changes from a pricing spec, checking launch readiness, and testing quote and billing scenarios
Minimum qualifications
Experience in GTM or revenue systems as a Business Systems Analyst, Q2C Systems Lead or similar role, with hands-on ownership of product and pricing launches
Experience launching new products or pricing models at a fast-growing company, owning the change across catalog, quoting, contracts and billing
Hands-on experience with Salesforce CPQ, Revenue Cloud or a similar CPQ tool, especially product and pricing data models, price books, bundles and approval rules
Working understanding of how a pricing decision flows into bookings, invoicing, tax and revenue recognition
Experience running a cross-functional process with many sign-offs (Product, Finance, Legal, Sales) and getting to launch on a fixed date
Hands-on Salesforce admin skills (Flow, validation rules, page layouts, approval processes) and comfort building meaningful parts of your own solution
Clear communication across Product, sellers, Deal Desk, Finance, Legal and engineers, adjusting the level of detail for each
Preferred qualifications
Experience in GTM, revenue or finance systems roles
Experience with usage-based or consumption pricing, and with billing platforms such as Stripe, Metronome or Zuora
Experience moving existing customers onto new pricing, including migrations, grandfathering and amendments at scale
Experience with tax setup for new products (tax codes, tax engines such as Anrok or Avalara)
Experience with integrations between Salesforce and billing, ERP or provisioning systems, and comfort reading API payloads and integration logs
Basic SQL and comfort using a data warehouse to check launch data
Salesforce Administrator certification. CPQ Specialist, Advanced Administrator or Business Analyst certification is a plus
Hands-on use of AI tools (Claude or similar) in how you design, build or document systems, and the ability to explain how you check their output
