Companies like Mercury, Flex, and Novo rely on Lithic's developer-friendly APIs, direct network connections, and flawless reconciliation to launch and scale card programs in weeks, not years.
We're building a future where access to better financial products materially improves people's lives, free from the constraints of 30-year-old mainframes and legacy processors. We're proud to be backed by world-class investors who share that vision, including Bessemer Venture Partners, Index Ventures, Spark Capital, Stripes, and Mastercard, along with many others.
We're a team of 170+ across 26 states and 7 countries, headquartered in New York City.
Lithic is hiring a
Solutions Engineer
to design and deliver technical product solutions that meet customer needs and highlight the value of our platform. In this role, you'll be the technical and strategic bridge between Lithic and our clients. You'll own complex client relationships from pre-sale through implementation, helping partners design integrations, navigate the Lithic platform, and unlock the full potential of card issuing infrastructure. This is a high-impact, highly visible role that requires equal parts technical credibility, client empathy, and cross-functional influence. You’ll be responsible to collaborate with internal teams to develop tailored solutions that clearly demonstrate the benefits of working with Lithic. If you’re passionate about technology, problem-solving, and creating exceptional customer experiences this role is for you.
What you'll do:
Client Engagement
Serve as a trusted technical advisor to a portfolio of strategic clients, from early-stage fintechs to enterprise partners.
Lead discovery conversations to understand client goals, technical environments, and program requirements.
Translate complex client needs into concrete integration designs and implementation plans.
Own client relationships through the full lifecycle; scoping, build, launch, and ongoing optimization.
Technical Depth
Develop deep expertise in Lithic's APIs, card issuing workflows, and platform capabilities.
Guide clients through integration decisions including authorization flows, transaction processing, tokenization, and card program configuration.
Review client implementations and proactively identify risks, gaps, or optimization opportunities.
Serve as a credible technical voice in escalations and complex problem-solving scenarios.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner closely with Account Executives to support pre-sales and shape solution proposals.
Work with Product and Engineering to surface client feedback, inform the roadmap, and advocate for platform improvements.
Collaborate with bank partners and compliance teams to ensure client programs meet regulatory and network requirements.
Contribute to internal knowledge-sharing by documenting solutions, building reusable frameworks, and mentoring junior team members.
What you'll bring:
Proven experience in Solutions Consulting, Sales Engineering, Solutions Architecture, or a similar customer-facing role focused on implementing SaaS or technology solutions.
3–5 years of experience in FinTech, particularly in payments, card issuance, or financial services technologies.
Strong understanding of APIs and complex technical concepts, with the ability to translate them into clear, actionable insights for customers.
Excellent communication skills: able to translate technical information into clear business language to different internal stakeholders.
Strong presentation skills: comfortable and confident presenting to external teams technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Strong product sense, concept explanation, and technical acumen: familiarity with APIs and technical concepts.
A well-rounded contributor with strong product sense, communication, and storytelling skills.
Low-ego collaborator who builds strong relationships internally and externally.
Ability to thrive in a cross-functional environment, collaborating with diverse stakeholders and subject matter experts to deliver impactful, user-facing solutions.
Experience working in a startup or fast-paced, high-growth environment, comfortable navigating ambiguity and driving results.

WordPress doesn’t try to keep its users inside walled gardens, a rare thing in a world that is dangerously moving away from the open web. Instead, WordPress gives them the freedom to build a business website, an online store, or a personal blog – the way they like it. Big sites or small, using the community-run
open source project
or Automattic’s
WordPress.com
, vanilla or customized with hundreds of plugins, WordPress users always get to own and control their data, their expression, and their freedom.
We’re always looking for talented and experienced engineers worldwide, excited to help Automattic’s product ecosystem, and join our mission to make the web a better place.
What have we worked on recently?
AI is at the heart of many
new product developments
and powers a lot of our day-to-day development workflows.
WooCommerce
is the most popular and most flexible e-commerce platform on the web. We're working tirelessly on giving you all the control, while keeping the platform fast and stable.
Gutenberg
is a new block-level editor for WordPress with clean abstractions for users, too, not just developers.
Tumblr
is a microblogging social network where users create, share, and follow what they love.

How do we work?
We’re
kind to each other
and our users – we build a positive, supportive, and inclusive culture of cohesive teams focused on building useful products for our customers.
We work as a global and distributed workforce resulting in a unique way of working built around
our creed
.
We offer flexible work arrangements allowing our team members to work when they feel best.
We open-source! We’re cool with
open-sourcing
everything except passwords, or secret keys.
We ship often,
deploying many
times daily with the help of peer code review, continuous integration, and our global workforce in over 70 countries.
We welcome collaboration, and you can be involved in any discussion across our many communication channels.
We encourage you to learn and develop and we support you with what you need – covering expenses, easy internal mobility, coaching.
Enough about us, let‘s talk more about you. Working at Automattic might be a good fit if:
You care and often obsess over the quality and the details of your work.
Debugging any problem is a fun challenge and not a chore.
Understanding the layers of abstraction below and above your work isn't something extra, but how you operate.
You have production experience with several programming languages, frameworks, and paradigms. We mostly use PHP and JavaScript at Automattic, we expect you to be comfortable with the idea of becoming an expert in these languages, even if being one isn't a requirement to apply.
In your mind abstraction is associated as much with cost as it is with value.
You have experience working at scale – it can be on the backend and performance side, or via the complexity of interacting with a multi-million diverse userbase.
Are open and able to travel 3-4 weeks per year to meet up with your teammates in person.
These are exciting times at Automattic and you’ll have a unique opportunity to shape the future of our products. Join us! We look forward to hearing from you.
