Our platform, Ubuntu, is very widely used in breakthrough enterprise initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation and IoT. Our customers include the world's leading public cloud and silicon providers, and industry leaders in many sectors. The company is a pioneer of global distributed collaboration, with 1200+ colleagues in more than 80 countries and very few office based roles. Teams meet two to four times yearly in person, in interesting locations around the world, to align on strategy and execution.
The company is founder led, profitable and growing.
We are hiring a
software architect
for Canonical LXD and MicroCloud.
Our goal is to make clusters of compute, with system containers or virtual machines, "just work". It should be trivial to stand up a small cloud using one, two or twenty servers. This is a challenging exercise in distributed systems, virtualisation, container technology, networking and storage. As with the Ubuntu desktop, our goal is to make it easy and to make it reliable for people to focus on the things that really matter to them rather than the OS and infrastructure.
LXD is a modern Golang system container and virtual machine orchestrator widely used on Ubuntu, ChromeOS and other Linux platforms. LXD engineering spans the entire software stack from low-level kernel work on namespaces, confinement, security, filesystems, VMMs and networking, to the high level management REST API and CLI. As a software architect, you will drive the architecture, design and evolution of LXD, and also Canonical MicroCloud which combines LXD with Ceph and OVN to make a lean, easy to use and resilient cluster-scale cloud infrastructure.
We are looking for an outstanding software architect and engineer with experience in Golang and C, with the leadership qualities needed to rally a team to ship outstanding products. Knowledge of modern cloud infrastructure offerings, their APIs and their underlying technologies is a must.
This is an opportunity for someone who wants to have a meaningful impact on modern cloud computing technologies. Canonical offers a fun, fast-paced team environment and a career full of learning and development.
Location
: This is a home-based position available in EMEA and the Americas.
The role entails
Leadership of the LXD and MicroCloud architecture
Mentor, develop and advise colleagues in their career progression
Develop in Golang and C
Review code produced by other engineers
Ensure the product is secure and performant
Display technical leadership in Canonical and our communities
Work from home with global travel twice annually for company events
What we are looking for in you
An exceptional academic track record from both high school and university
Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM
Drive, and a track record of going above-and-beyond expectations
Technical leadership as well as team motivation, direction and pace
Well-organized, self-starting and able to deliver to schedule
Professional manner in interacting with colleagues, partners, and community
Experience with Go and C
Experience with storage, networking and virtualization
Experience with container technologies
Experience with concurrent, distributed systems
Conscientiousness and detail orientation, with a focus on performance
Professional written and spoken English
Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred)
Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability
What we offer colleagues
We consider geographical location, experience, and performance in shaping compensation worldwide. We revisit compensation annually (and more often for graduates and associates) to ensure we recognise outstanding performance. In addition to base pay, we offer a performance-driven annual bonus or commission. We provide all team members with additional benefits, which reflect our values and ideals. We balance our programs to meet local needs and ensure fairness globally.
Distributed work environment with twice-yearly team sprints in person
Personal learning and development budget of USD 2,000 per year
Annual compensation review
Recognition rewards
Annual holiday leave
Maternity and paternity leave
Employee Assistance Programme
Opportunity to travel to new locations to meet colleagues
Priority Pass, and travel upgrades for long haul company events

About Onebrief:
Onebrief builds collaboration and AI-powered workflow software for military planning and operational coordination. Military planning is complex by nature, requiring teams to coordinate information, people, and decisions across systems and locations. Onebrief brings planning, collaboration, simulation, and AI into one connected environment, helping teams test strategies, adapt to changing conditions, and make decisions with greater clarity when the stakes are real. The team is distributed, with some members working remotely and others alongside customers in operational environments worldwide. Founded in 2019, Onebrief is backed by leading investors and valued at more than $2 billion.
Why This Role Exists:
As a Solutions Engineer at Onebrief, you work where mission, engineering, and compliance meet. You'll own technical solution design and deployment readiness, translating customer requirements into secure, scalable deployment architectures. You'll partner with Platform Engineering, SRE, and Cybersecurity teams to validate infrastructure, configure environments, resolve technical blockers, and transition solutions into production. You will work with go-to-market and customer-facing teams to understand current workflows and demonstrate Onebrief's solutions.
What You'll Do:
- Run technical discovery, mapping workflows and technical constraints including networks, hosting, identity, and integration requirements.
- Lead deployment engineering, coordinating technical delivery, infrastructure validation, network configuration, and system readiness.
- Write code to configure new deployments and support new environments.
- Support accreditation by creating and reviewing security documentation with cybersecurity teams.
- Align stakeholders on requirements, constraints, and tradeoffs.
- Ensure technical requirements translate into contract deliverables.
- Scope integrations, designing how Onebrief Connect fits into command ecosystems including APIs, data pipelines, and dashboards.
- Deliver tailored demos and lead technical demonstrations.
- Run pilot deployments configuring Onebrief in new environments.
- Convert deployment experience into structured workflows and reusable implementation patterns.
- Travel 30–50% of the time to customer sites and exercises.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 4+ years in solutions engineering, infrastructure or deployment engineering, or forward-deployed engineering.
- Experience in Department of Defense environments and compliance requirements (RMF, STIGs, ICD 503).
- Strong expertise with containers (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and on-premises virtualization (RHEL).
- Solid understanding of networking concepts, protocols, and security best practices for sensitive environments.
- Strong customer presence and clear, concise writing.
- Calm under pressure and focused on progress.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, Go, Bash).
- Infrastructure as code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible).
- Monitoring and logging tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Datadog) and service mesh (Istio, Linkerd).
- Experience as military planner or staff officer, or with mission command systems.
- Presales experience including building and delivering demos.

Figma is growing our team of passionate creatives and builders on a mission to make design accessible to all. Figma’s platform helps teams bring ideas to life—whether you're brainstorming, creating a prototype, translating designs into code, or iterating with AI. From idea to product, Figma empowers teams to streamline workflows, move faster, and work together in real time from anywhere in the world. If you're excited to shape the future of design and collaboration, join us!
You will be the first engineering manager for Growth Platform, and you’ll help shape its vision, starting with the Communications capability.
Today, running a growth experiment requires engineering work, code rollouts, and manual coordination. We are creating a new Growth Platform team with two core missions: enable 10x more experiments at quality, and own the shared notification platform that powers all notifications and transactional emails across Figma. Together, these capabilities help teams experiment faster and deliver reliable, personalized communications to users across every Figma product.
This is a full time role that can be held from one of our US hubs or remotely in the United States.
What you’ll do at Figma:
Build and lead the team: Hire the initial engineers for the Growth Platform’s first team. Set the team’s culture, operating rhythm, and engineering standards. Mentor engineers, create career growth opportunities, and help scale the organization as scope expands
Build capabilities that unlock new experiments: This isn’t about building an experimentation platform—it’s about building the product capabilities (personalized messaging, self-service publishing, cross-system integrations) that make it dramatically easier for teams across Figma to run growth experiments without engineering bottlenecks
Leverage AI to scale quality and speed: Explore and integrate AI-driven approaches—for brand consistency checks, visual quality validation, copy generation, and experiment governance—that allow experiment volume to grow without proportional growth in manual review
Provide hands-on technical leadership: Guide architecture decisions, review system designs, and make build-vs-integrate choices
Partner across the company: collaborate with Marketing to align on cross-channel messaging, partner with growth teams to identify platform capability needs, and work with product teams to ensure growth messaging improves rather than detracts from the end-user experience
Shape the platform vision: Define what to build next based on adoption, impact, and what you learn from each phase. The roadmap will evolve as we learn—you’ll be central to how it evolves
We'd love to hear from you if you have:
3+ years in engineering management, with a strong track record of building and shipping application platforms
7+ years of software engineering experience at the application or product tier
Experience driving outsized impact from small changes—say, a UI layout change that lifted growth 20%—and energized by enabling such wins at 10x scale
Demonstrate strategic insight to optimize impact for both longer and short term.
Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous environments, delivering continuous value while building toward a longer-term platform vision
Track record of prioritizing by impact, leveraging existing assets to accelerate, and scaling through platform-level thinking
Experience working cross-functionally with marketing, product, design, and data
While it’s not required, it’s an added plus if you also have:
Experience at a product-led growth company during a period of multi-product expansion
Experience building platforms that enable non-engineering teams (marketing, design, content) to run experiments or publish content independently
Background in personalization systems, recommendation engines, or ML-driven content selection
Experience integrating with customer data platforms, marketing automation systems, or building user attribute services from product usage data
Familiarity with using AI for quality assurance, brand consistency, or content governance at scale
Experience with internationalization (i18n) and localization (l10n) infrastructure
At Figma, one of our values is Grow as you go. We believe in hiring smart, curious people who are excited to learn and develop their skills. If you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with the points outlined in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyways. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.
