Perplexity is seeking experienced ML engineers to design, build, and optimize the recommendation systems that power core experiences on Perplexity.
Perplexity builds AI for those who expect more. Our products are designed to help people find answers, make their most consequential decisions, and complete increasingly ambitious work. Across these use cases, the Perplexity experience must feel deeply personal. Great recommendations and user understanding are central to delighting and delivering for each user.
To do this, we are reimagining recommendation systems for the LLM era. Our goal is to combine the intelligence of frontier LLMs, the personalization context that comes from real product usage, and the continual learning capabilities of modern recommendation systems. We build systems that draw on past context and connected data sources to deeply understand each user's needs and recommend the actions that help them get the most out of Perplexity.
WHY PERPLEXITY IS DIFFERENT
- Craftsmanship. We build high quality, tasteful products targeting both AI native and AI curious users.
- Ownership. You identify the problem, design the solution and ship it.
- Entrepreneurship. We think like founders, act with urgency, and hustle to deliver for each other and our users.
- Scholarship. Work among highly talented peers, pursuing knowledge and truth, upleveling ourselves, our teams, and our products.
- Partnership. We amplify each others’ strengths, break down silos, and give selflessly to help our colleagues deliver excellence.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Own the personalization and ranking behind key product surfaces to make Perplexity more useful and drive impact on core user and business metrics.
- Build user modeling that captures intent, preference, and propensity, and powers more relevant, more personalized experiences.
- Design the decision layer that balances competing objectives to produce the best overall experience for the user.
- Build the data and evaluation foundations that let these systems learn and improve with usage.
- Help shape the technical direction of ranking, recommendations, and personalization at Perplexity.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Deep, hands-on experience building production recommendation, ranking, or personalization systems at scale.
- Strong ML fundamentals, covering areas such as engagement modeling, model calibration, offline and online metrics, and online experimentation.
- Experience integrating LLMs into ranking, retrieval, or personalization pipelines.
- Taste and judgment for how personalization should work in an LLM-native product, and curiosity about reimagining it from first principles.
- For tech leadership roles, we will also look for prior experience setting technical direction for recommendation/ranking projects.
NICE TO HAVE
- Experience with large-scale ranking and training infrastructure (multi-stage retrieval and ranking, feature stores, real-time serving).
- Background in user understanding, feed ranking, notifications, growth, or lifecycle modeling.
OUR MISSION
Perplexity’s mission is to power curiosity. Curious people are the people who drive change in the world. Driving change is a continuous cycle of learning, building, and integrating.
Learn: curious people constantly learn new things by asking more. They question the status quo in their own expertise and they constantly learn outside of it. Research is essential to them and never ending.
Build: curious people make and create things, to show the world their new answers to problems no one else ever questioned. They take action on what they’ve learned. Makers need tools to create their products, their companies, their reality.
Integrate: they must interact with the world as it is to drive change and adoption. True leaders do not simply build something and hope. They must have armies of agents and workers who can constantly work in millions of small ways.
Repeat. For curious people this is a cycle that never ends.

Here at Humanoid, we believe in a future where robots amplify human potential. That’s why we’ve set out on a mission to build the world’s most capable, commercially-scalable, and safe humanoid robots. We’re bringing that mission to life with HMND‑01 - our rapidly developed humanoid platform being deployed in real industrial environments - and we’re growing the team to take it even further.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We're hiring a Senior Autonomy Engineer focused on SLAM & Navigation to join our team. In this role, you will bridge the gap between classical spatial geometry and next-generation AI. You will lead the design and development of robust state estimation, long-term mapping, and localisation loops, with a specific focus on integrating modern machine learning techniques and foundation geometry models into our core navigation stack. Your work will ensure our robots possess rock-solid spatial awareness and execute highly reliable trajectories over extended deployments in complex, real-world environments.

- Design and scale robust SLAM pipelines that maintain highly accurate localisation and state estimation across dynamic physical spaces.
- Integrate foundation geometry models and modern ML techniques into the localisation loop to enhance traditional spatial tracking, data association, and visual odometry.
- Architect and maintain robust long-term mapping systems that enable robots to autonomously update, manage, and scale spatial maps across changing environments over time.
- Build and scale auto-labeling data pipelines that leverage foundation geometry models to generate high-fidelity spatial ground truth for downstream ML training.
- Bridge classical geometry with deep learning architectures, building hybrid systems that map raw sensor data into globally consistent metric trajectories.
- Deploy and benchmark spatial AI software directly on physical robot hardware, ensuring deterministic, ultra-low latency execution on edge compute.
- Translate cutting-edge spatial AI research into production reality, continuously evaluating breakthroughs in geometric learning to guide our navigation roadmap.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Deep expertise in classical SLAM and multi-view geometry, including extensive hands-on experience with state estimation, visual/LiDAR odometry, and multi-sensor fusion.
- Experience handling backend map optimization and solving the unique structural challenges associated with long-term mapping in large or changing physical environments.
- Practical experience applying modern ML to geometric problems, with exposure to utilizing or adapting newer foundation geometry models.
- Proven ability to build scalable data pipelines or auto-labeling workflows tailored for geometric and spatial datasets.
- Proficiency in C++ and Python, with a track record of writing clean, highly parallelized, production-grade algorithmic code.
- Hands-on experience deploying navigation systems on physical hardware, with a deep understanding of the practical edge constraints of real-world robotics.
- A research-to-production mindset, capable of tearing through the latest CVPR/ICRA papers and figuring out exactly how to make those models run with bulletproof reliability.
WHAT WE OFFER
- Competitive equity: stock options with meaningful upside as we scale.
- 30+ paid days off, including 23 days of annual leave, all UK bank holidays, and additional company closure days (including Christmas–New Year shutdown).
- Private healthcare, including virtual and in-person care.
- Pension scheme with 8% total contribution (5% employee, 3% employer) on full earnings.
- Free daily breakfast, catered lunch, and snacks in-office.
- Work at the frontier - collaborate daily with world-class engineers, researchers, and product experts building the next generation of AI and humanoid robotics.
- Real ownership - direct access to founding leadership, meaningful input on product direction, and the ability to drive key initiatives from day one.

In 2026, we launched Computer, the defining product for the new era of agentic AI. Millions of people now use Perplexity to transform knowledge into action, and the Growth team owns the product loops that help them discover, adopt, and build lasting habits around our most important AI experiences.
As a growth engineer at Perplexity, you'll work across the full funnel — activation, onboarding, SEO, lifecycle, conversion, retention, and paid upgrade moments — while also building the applied AI systems that make those experiences smarter. Engineers are responsible for end-to-end projects from training and productionizing classifiers to identify high-intent users, personalizing value discovery, shipping contextual onboarding experiments, or wiring new AI capabilities into measurable adoption and revenue outcomes.
Growth at Perplexity goes beyond incremental funnel optimization. The team sits close to the core product - we translate behavioral signals, model outputs, and fast experimentation into durable product surfaces used across consumer and enterprise workflows. You'll move fast, run many experiments in parallel, and own the outcome end-to-end.
Tech Stack: TypeScript | Next.js | React | Python | PostgreSQL | Eppo | AWS
WHY PERPLEXITY IS DIFFERENT
- Craftsmanship. We build high quality, tasteful products targeting both the AI native and AI curious.
We amplify each others' strengths, break down silos, and give selflessly to help our colleagues deliver excellence.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Design, build, and own growth surfaces across the full funnel — activation, onboarding, SEO, lifecycle, conversion, retention, and paid upgrade moments — for Computer and every Perplexity product.
- Lead experiments end-to-end, from hypothesis and instrumentation through implementation, analysis, and rollout, shipping many in parallel and learning quickly from each.
- Build applied AI systems that power growth: classifiers for high-intent segments, personalization for value discovery, and AI-driven onboarding and recommendation surfaces.
- Launch vertical-specific experiences (e.g., students, enterprise organizations) that connect new AI capabilities to measurable adoption and revenue outcomes.
- Hill-climb on the metrics that matter: activation rate, paid conversion, retention, and habit formation, instrumented with clean data and trustworthy experiment readouts.
- Partner closely with Product, Design, Data Science, Monetization, Marketing, and Applied AI to translate behavioral signals and model outputs into durable product surfaces.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 2+ years of professional software engineering experience (we're open to strong junior and mid-level candidates with a track record of shipping).
- Full-stack engineering skills, with comfort across a modern web stack (we use Next.js, React, TypeScript on the frontend and Python on the backend).
- Strong execution: you ship many experiments and product improvements in parallel and drive them to a clear outcome.
- Familiarity with A/B testing and experimentation platforms (Eppo, Statsig, Optimizely, or in-house equivalents).
- Comfort with SQL and data-informed decision-making — you can pull, segment, and interpret your own funnel data.
- Strong product judgment; you translate user behavior and growth opportunities into simple, effective technical solutions.
- Self-motivated with strong ownership instincts; you propose experiments, ship features ahead of schedule, and drive improvements without asking for permission.
- Genuine interest and adoption of AI products and willingness to learn quickly.
NICE TO HAVE
- Direct experience on a growth, activation, conversion, retention, or lifecycle team at a consumer or PLG/self-serve SaaS company.
- Experience training and productionizing ML models (classifiers, ranking, personalization) and connecting them to product surfaces.
- Experience with SEO, lifecycle marketing tooling, or paid acquisition surfaces.
- Familiarity with subscription and/or usage based billing products, paywalls, or paid upgrade experimentation.
- Experience shipping for both consumer and enterprise audiences.
- Time spent at a fast-growing startup or on a high-ownership engineering team.
- Familiarity with mobile development - Swift/Objective-C/Kotlin/Java, in-app payments, mobile release cycles, Apple App Store and/or Google Play Store guidelines, and rollout monitoring
