About Anthropic
Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.
About the Role
Anthropic's inference fleet serves Claude to millions of users across our own products and the world's largest cloud platforms. The stack that makes this possible is deep and tightly coupled: accelerator kernels, model servers, distributed routing, autoscaling, capacity management. Every layer affects the others, often in ways that are hard to see in isolation.
The Inference System Dynamics team is responsible for understanding that whole system and holding it to a high bar across four dimensions:
throughput, latency, reliability, and correctness
. We measure how the fleet performs against its theoretical performance frontier, run cross-layer investigations to explain the gaps, and own the correctness checks that make sure Claude's outputs are right, not just fast, across hardware platforms and serving configurations. We don't own the individual components. We instrument and model them, find the highest-leverage opportunities across them, and partner with the owning teams to land the wins.
You'll work across all four areas. One week that might mean tracing a tail-latency regression from request timing down through routing and batching into a kernel overhead; the next it might mean tightening a correctness eval so it catches an output regression introduced by a quantization change. We're looking for performance engineers who treat correctness as part of performance.
Key Responsibilities
Run cross-layer performance investigations across throughput, latency, and reliability, sizing the gap between actual fleet performance and theoretical rooflines, identifying root causes, and quantifying the value of closing them
Own and improve the correctness evaluation pipeline that validates model output quality across hardware platforms, numerics, and serving configurations, and lead the investigation when it catches a regression
Build the observability, dashboards, and modeling tools that make throughput, latency, cost, reliability, correctness, and their interactions legible across the stack
Partner with kernel, serving, routing, autoscaling, and capacity teams to prioritize and land the highest-impact optimizations your analysis surfaces
Ruthlessly stack-rank a large surface area of opportunities by impact and effort, and say no to the ones that don't make the cut
Minimum Qualifications
Hands-on performance engineering experience: profiling, roofline analysis, latency/throughput optimization, and root-cause investigation in complex production systems
Proficiency in Python, with the ability to read, instrument, and contribute to large production codebases you didn’t write
Solid data analysis skills (e.g. SQL, pandas, or similar) sufficient to turn raw telemetry into clear findings
Ability to communicate quantitative results clearly in writing to influence priorities on teams you don't manage
Genuine interest in correctness as an engineering discipline: numerics, evaluation design, regression detection
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with ML systems, especially training or inference infrastructure or general LLM serving stacks. Direct large-scale inference experience is a strong plus
Familiarity with GPU/TPU/accelerator performance concepts (memory bandwidth, kernel overheads, quantization, collective communication). Reasoning about these matters more than having written kernels yourself
Experience with reliability engineering for high-throughput services: autoscaling, load balancing, request routing, tail latency
Experience with model evaluation or numerical regression-detection pipelines
Experience building observability or telemetry for distributed systems
Comfortable having impact through influence and evidence rather than direct ownership
Representative Projects
Trace a 350ms latency gap on a new accelerator platform from end-to-end request timing down to a server scheduling overhead, quantify the win, and land the fix directly or with the owning team
Redesign the correctness eval gate: determine which signals reliably catch real model-output regressions versus noise, and make it the trusted release criterion across hardware backends
Build a FLOPs funnel that breaks down where compute actually goes across the fleet, exposing the gap between achieved throughput and kernel rooflines
Root-cause a numerical divergence between two hardware platforms to a specific kernel change, and define the acceptance threshold going forward
Model the latency–cost impact of changing batch-sizing and utilization targets, and turn the result into the signal the autoscaler uses in production
Deadline to apply: None. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

How we're different
We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills.
The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.
Come work with us!
Anthropic is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and a lovely office space in which to collaborate with colleagues.

ABOUT SUPABASE
Supabase is the Postgres development platform, built by developers for developers. We provide a complete backend solution including Database, Auth, Storage, Edge Functions, Realtime, and Vector Search. All services are deeply integrated and designed for growth.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We're looking for an engineer to drive the evolution of OrioleDB https://www.orioledb.com and its collaboration with the upstream PostgreSQL community. OrioleDB is a next-generation storage engine for PostgreSQL, and this role sits at the intersection of database internals, open source community work, and Supabase's managed Postgres platform.
This role requires strong working overlap with Americas time zones due to production support and on-call responsibilities.
What you'll work on
- New OrioleDB features. Design and implement new capabilities in OrioleDB — for example, native index access methods (GiST, GIN, HNSW for pgvector), disaster recovery tooling, and other storage-engine-level features that expand what OrioleDB can do.
- Stability. Strengthen OrioleDB's reliability through deeper test coverage, fault injection, crash and recovery testing, and improvements to CI infrastructure. Ensure regressions are caught early and that OrioleDB behaves predictably under stress, replication, and failure scenarios.
- Upstream collaboration. Contribute changes directly to PostgreSQL core. Part of OrioleDB lives as a patch on top of PostgreSQL — moving the right pieces upstream shrinks what we maintain ourselves and benefits the wider community. This happens through PostgreSQL's open development process: the pgsql-hackers mailing list, public code review, and commitfests.
- Supabase integration. Work with Supabase's Postgres team to ensure OrioleDB fits naturally into Supabase's managed offering and roadmap.
YOU WILL:
- Design, implement, and test new OrioleDB features and integrate them cleanly with PostgreSQL's planner, executor, and surrounding subsystems.
- Build out and maintain test infrastructure: regression suites, fuzzing, randomized testing, crash and recovery testing, and CI pipelines.
- Identify and prepare patches suitable for upstreaming to PostgreSQL core.
- Improve performance, resilience, monitoring, and operational tooling for production use.
- Debug and resolve complex issues in low-level C code, including in storage, replication, indexing, and query execution paths.
- Participate in design discussions, architecture reviews, and code reviews — both inside Supabase and in the PostgreSQL community.
- Write clear technical documentation, design notes, and upstream proposals.
- Contribute to troubleshooting, analyzing, supporting and maintaining OrioleDB in production deployments. This can include answering support ticket requests, an on-call rotation, and supporting our team members in troubleshooting and fixing live customer production databases.
YOU ARE:
- An existing PostgreSQL core contributor or have equivalent experience in Database internals.
- An expert C programmer with 8+ years of production experience with focus on low-level systems programming
- Deeply familiar with PostgreSQL’s codebase, build system, and extension APIs.
- Have experience designing or implementing database storage engines, index structures, or query execution components.
- Comfortable contributing to community‑driven, upstream open source projects.
- Proficient in debugging and profiling complex C code in a database context.
- Able to write clear technical documentation and explain design trade‑offs.
- A strong communicator, committed to an open and collaborative development process.
WHAT WE OFFER
- Fully Remote
We hire globally. We believe you can do your best work from anywhere. There are no Supabase offices, but we provide a WeWork membership or co-working allowance you can use anywhere in the world.
- ESOP
Every team member receives ESOP (equity ownership) in the company. We want everyone to share in the upside of what we’re building together.
- Tech Allowance
Use this budget to set up your ideal work environment—laptop, monitor, headphones, or whatever helps you do your best work.
- Health Benefits
Supabase covers 100% of health insurance for employees and 80% for dependents, wherever you are. Your wellbeing and your family’s health are important to us.
- Annual Off-Sites
Once a year, the entire company gathers in a new city for a week of connection, collaboration, and fun. It’s a highlight of our year.
- Flexible Work
We operate asynchronously and trust you to manage your own time. You know what needs to be done and when.
- Professional Development
Every team member receives an annual education allowance to spend on learning—courses, books, conferences, or anything that supports your growth.
ABOUT THE TEAM
Supabase was born-remote and open-source-first. We believe our globally distributed team is our secret weapon in building tools developers love.
- ~400 team members
- 60+ countries
- 20+ languages spoken
- Over $1B raised (including our $500M Series F)

About the job
As a member of the AI model team, you will drive innovation in post-training methodologies, with a special focus on agentic behaviors and tool use. Your work will refine pre-trained models so that they not only deliver enhanced intelligence and domain specific capabilities, but also learn to reason, plan, and autonomously invoke external tools to solve real world, multi step tasks and applications on edge devices (i.e., smartphones).
You will work on a wide spectrum of systems, ranging from streamlined, resource efficient agents that run on limited hardware to complex multi modal architectures integrating text, images, and audio, all optimized for tool augmented decision making.
We expect you to have deep expertise in large language model architectures and substantial experience in post-training for agentic workflows, including tool use fine tuning, function calling, and reinforcement learning from feedback on multi turn interactions. You will adopt a hands-on, research driven approach to developing, testing, and implementing new post-training algorithms that unlock goal directed behavior, self correction, and reliable tool invocation.
Your responsibilities include curating agentic training data (e.g., trajectories of tool use, reasoning chains, environment interactions), strengthening baseline performance, and identifying as well as resolving bottlenecks in post-training for tool augmented agents to achieve SOTA model quality. The goal is to build models that do not just know but also act, use tools, and adapt, pushing the limits of what agentic AI can achieve.
Responsibilities
Conduct end-to-end research and engineering initiatives to advance post-training of agentic and tool-use models to achieve SOTA results.
Drive broad, cross-cutting model improvements, including factuality, instruction adherence, tool/function use, multi-agent coordination, and reasoning calibration.
Design and enhance large-scale post-training systems, including data pipelines, training workflows, evaluation frameworks, and benchmark infrastructure.
Develop rigorous evaluation suites and diagnostic tools to assess model readiness for deployment.
Strengthen feedback loops from real-world product usage, incorporating both explicit and implicit user signals into post-training.
Collaborate with tooling, product, and training teams to improve the usefulness, reliability, and agentic capabilities of frontier models.
Closely liaise with research, engineering and cross-functional teams to determine which integrations are production-ready for inclusion in major model releases.
Degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field; advanced degree (MS/PhD) preferred with a strong publication record in top-tier AI conferences.
Experience with multimodal post-training workflows and data pipelines, particularly for agentic systems and tool use.
Hands-on experience applying post-training at scale using distributed training frameworks (e.g., multi-node GPU environments).
Demonstrated experience improving model capabilities in areas such as reasoning, tool use, and multi-agent coordination that achieve SOTA results.
Proven track record of open-source contributions related to agentic systems or tool use (code, datasets, or models) on platforms such as GitHub or Hugging Face.
Publications at leading AI conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, ACL, CVPR, ECCV).
