Job Summary
We are seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer with extensive experience in production MLOps, model deployment, and system scaling to drive ML engineering initiatives for a top-tier life sciences client. This role sits at the critical intersection of production ML infrastructure, life science research, and manufacturing process engineering.
In this position, you will own the architectural design and hands-on execution of production ML systems, model integration APIs, and scalable MLOps pipelines. You will bridge complex domains—from computational biology, small and large molecule research, and clinical trial analytics to active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) manufacturing processes, batch optimization, and industrial automation ML. Operating in a 3-day onsite hybrid capacity in Indianapolis, you will collaborate directly with process engineers, life science researchers, and platform engineering teams to build robust, low-latency ML systems that scale across the enterprise.
Key Responsibilities
Production MLOps & Systems Architecture
Design, deploy, and maintain robust, production-grade MLOps pipelines and infrastructure for continuous model training, deployment, versioning, and monitoring.
Implement automated model drift detection, performance monitoring, and self-healing inference pipelines in high-reliability environments.
Process Engineering & Manufacturing ML Integration
Operationalize and integrate production ML models into operational technology (OT), API manufacturing workflows, and chemical process control systems.
Deploy predictive models for batch processing, process control optimization, real-time quality assurance, and facility automation use cases.
Scalable Inference & System Integration
Build low-latency, high-throughput microservices and serving architectures (FastAPI, Triton Inference Server, TorchServe) for model deployment into live production applications.
Containerize and orchestrate ML workloads across distributed cloud and edge systems using Kubernetes, Docker, and modern pipeline engines (Kubeflow, MLflow).
Technical Leadership & Domain Alignment
Partner directly with chemical engineers, computational biologists, and software architects to translate operational friction into production-ready ML engineering solutions.
Establish enterprise MLOps standards, model governance, and CI/CD best practices across the full machine learning operational lifecycle.
Requirements
Experience & Mindset
Experience: Senior-level proficiency (10–20+ years) in software engineering, MLOps, production ML system deployment, and infrastructure scaling.
Domain Adaptability: Demonstrated ability to deploy and maintain production ML systems across non-standard, highly specialized domains (e.g., transition between process/chemical engineering ML and clinical/scientific research applications).
Location & Work Auth: Must hold unrestricted US Work Authorization (no sponsorship available) and be able to work 3 days per week onsite in the Indianapolis, IN area.
Culture & Communication: Pragmatic problem-solving mindset, strong collaborative drive, and the ability to articulate complex MLOps architecture to cross-functional engineering teams.
Must-Have Technical Stack
Languages & Frameworks: Advanced Python, C++, and deep proficiency with PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Scikit-learn.
MLOps & Serving: Proven expertise with Triton Inference Server, TorchServe, MLflow, Kubeflow, or Databricks ML runtime.
Infrastructure & Orchestration: Hands-on expertise with Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD pipelines, FastAPI/gRPC, and cloud platform ecosystems (AWS/Azure).
Monitoring & Integration: Experience building real-time model monitoring, feature stores, drift detection systems, and integration with enterprise data pipelines.
Domain Competency (Scientific & Process Focus)
Deep exposure to applying ML models in either scientific/clinical domains (drug discovery, small/large molecule, computational biology) OR chemical/process engineering environments (API manufacturing, batch processing, SCADA/MES integration, process optimization).
Nice-to-Haves & Certifications
Academic background in Chemical Engineering, Bio-process Engineering, Computer Science, or a related STEM discipline.
Direct experience operationalizing ML models inside regulated GxP environments in the Life Sciences or Specialty Chemicals sectors.
Certifications: AWS Certified Machine Learning – Specialty, Databricks Certified Machine Learning Professional, or equivalent MLOps credentials.
What This Role Is NOT
Not a Data Scientist or Exploratory R&D Specialist: You will not be focusing on exploratory data analysis, academic algorithms, or standalone Jupyter notebook modeling; you are building, scaling, and maintaining production MLOps pipelines, inference engines, and model integration code.
Not a non-coding Architect: This is a 100% hands-on MLOps and software engineering lead role requiring direct model deployment, infrastructure creation, and technical execution.
Not a Fully Remote Position: This role requires a steady hybrid commitment of 3 days onsite per week at the client site in Indianapolis.

About Anthropic
Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.
About the role
Anthropic is dedicated to developing AI assistants that are helpful, harmless, and honest. As usage of our AI services grows, we need to ensure they are not misused. The Safeguards team is at the forefront of protecting our users from the risks of powerful AIs as well as ethical, technical, and social risks from the use of generative AI.
The Safeguards team at Anthropic builds protections for new AI features enabled by the research teams and protects new products and surfaces developed by our product teams. As a Product Manager for the Safeguards team at Anthropic, you will own the ideation, design, development and deployment of Safeguards systems and relevant product UX to ensure we are advancing frontier models safely to users across various cloud platforms. You will work closely with our research and product teams to develop detections, evals, interventions, and tools to measure and mitigate deployment and user risks.
We are looking for a product manager who is deeply committed to making AI safe and beneficial for humanity. You are aware of the risks and are committed to working with experts and coming up with ideas for Anthropic to implement. You have deep technical expertise in development, deployment and measurement of Safeguards systems. You thrive in rapidly moving and ambiguous environments.
Responsibilities
Determine how to build in safety by design upstream and leverage downstream defenses for Anthropic’s frontier models, AI products, customers on different surfaces - Claude.ai, 1P API, external Cloud providers.
Ability to write safety evals and communicate externally about safety.
Drive impact via ruthless prioritization by clearly defining problems, solution options forward, clarity on both business & technical tradeoffs and accordingly clear requirements toward MVP vs. ideal state.
Align & collaborate with policy, enforcement, research, engineering and cross functional stakeholders.
Understand the AI landscape and ecosystem to plan for mitigation of deployment risks of increasingly powerful models and determined adversaries.
Lead the development of metrics to understand the area, performance, blindspots to help inform future project planning.
Minimum Qualifications
You may be a good fit if you have:
Ability to make technical tradeoff decisions; ideally with experience working across policy experts, AI/ML research engineers and software engineering teams to design and build state of the art safety systems.
Strong user understanding of how our products are used, their Safeguards concerns and how we provide the best solutions.
Demonstrated ability to build product and engineering strategy across multiple cross-functional teams for a rapidly changing space.
Demonstrated experience in designing and building metrics to evaluate risks, system performance, user impact and making crisp tradeoffs
Very strong ability to navigate, and prioritize amidst rapidly changing product specs, and to flex into different domains to bring clarity and execute.
Evidence of exercising judgment and decision making in ambiguous situations.
Planning, building, launching and measuring new products / systems in a zero to one environment.
Ability to clearly articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences in written and verbal communication.
Think creatively about the risks and benefits of new technologies, and think beyond past checklists and playbooks.
Preferred Qualifications
5+ years in product management with a focus on fast problem understanding, building roadmaps with tractable progress, ability to get into the details on data, detection & interventions, infrastructure & tools, and/or evals.
The annual compensation range for this role is listed below.
For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role.
Annual Salary:
$385,000
—
$460,000 USD
Logistics
Minimum education:
Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience
Required field of study:
A field relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience
Minimum years of experience:
Years of experience required will correlate with the internal job level requirements for the position
Location-based hybrid policy:
Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices.

We do sponsor visas! However, we aren't able to successfully sponsor visas for every role and every candidate. But if we make you an offer, we will make every reasonable effort to get you a visa, and we retain an immigration lawyer to help with this.
We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification.

We think this makes representation even more important, and we strive to include a range of diverse perspectives on our team.

To protect yourself from potential scams, remember that Anthropic recruiters only contact you from @anthropic.com email addresses. In some cases, we may partner with vetted recruiting agencies who will identify themselves as working on behalf of Anthropic. Be cautious of emails from other domains. directly for confirmed position openings.
How we're different
We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills.
The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.
Come work with us!
Anthropic is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and a lovely office space in which to collaborate with colleagues.

As a Customer Success Manager on Anthropic's Public Sector team, you will be the post-sales trusted advisor helping national security customers realize the value of Claude and turn their investment into mission impact. You'll combine your customer success expertise with technical fluency to drive adoption of Claude Code, the Claude API, and Claude for Government (C4G) on classified infrastructure delivered through a cleared cloud provider, while maintaining our high standards for safety, security, and discretion.
Working closely with our Sales, Applied AI, Product, Engineering, and Policy teams, you'll guide customers from deployment through enablement, model migration, renewal, and expansion. You'll develop genuine partnerships with customers' AI leadership, platform and compute teams, security and accreditation officials, and mission operators—and with the cleared cloud providers and system integrators that deliver alongside us. Your understanding of their mission, how they accredit and govern capabilities on classified fabrics, and how they evidence value to oversight will help them deliver decision advantage.
Drawing on both your national security expertise and technical knowledge, you'll serve as a strategic advisor throughout their journey with us—helping them navigate constraints that don't exist in commercial or federal civilian deployments: classified-fabric accreditation, fixed compute capacity, compartmentation, limited telemetry, and need-to-know discipline. Much of this work happens onsite, in the customer's spaces, on their systems.
Your role focuses on driving consumption and adoption of Claude across mission workloads, standing up enablement and change management suited to a cleared, mission-driven workforce, identifying and hardening the workloads that matter most to the mission, and demonstrating value in unclassified terms that can leave the building and support renewal and expansion.
The insights you gather will directly inform our research priorities, product roadmap, and national security strategy—making you a key voice in shaping how Anthropic builds and delivers AI systems for the most demanding missions.
Key responsibilities:
Partner with the account executive and Applied AI architect to deeply understand the customer's mission requirements and translate them into an account and success plan, ensuring alignment between mission objectives, the customer's investment, and technical implementation
Serve as the primary post-sales advisor to the customer throughout their Claude adoption journey, from deployment through enablement, model migration, renewal, and expansion. You will need to build trusted relationships across the customer's senior stakeholders—AI leadership, platform and compute teams, security and accreditation officials, contracting, and mission operators—and coordinate internally across multiple teams and with cleared cloud providers to drive customer success
Support customers building with Claude Code, the Claude API, and Claude for Government on classified infrastructure—managed configuration, capacity and throughput planning, and workload onboarding—with a working understanding of accreditation requirements (FedRAMP High, IL5/IL6, classified-fabric accreditation)
Create and deliver compelling enablement and executive content tailored to different audiences. You will need to spread the gamut from hands-on Claude Code enablement for engineering teams (Train the Trainer, managed configuration as the "paved road," Center of Excellence development) up to mission-value conversations with senior agency leadership, in unclassified language that can leave the building
Help the customer develop evaluation frameworks and measure adoption and value without direct telemetry—provider capacity reports, customer-run dashboards, workload registries, and agreed leading indicators—and guide model migration and release readiness: eval gates built from their workloads, staged cutovers off end-of-support models, and realistic expectations about what lands on their fabric and when
Drive consumption and adoption: separate under-pacing from burst saturation of a fixed compute pool, smooth and onboard workloads before asking for capacity, discover new mission workloads across compartmented organizations, and document value realized in mission-outcome terms (decisions accelerated, coverage, timeliness, findings produced)
Own Executive Business Reviews that function as discovery and alignment—leaving executives with sponsor commitments, mutual next steps, and a mission-outcome narrative that supports the renewal decision—and serve as the primary conduit between the customer, cleared cloud providers, and Anthropic
Identify common adoption and integration patterns and hero workflows that demonstrate mission transformation, and contribute insights back to our Product, Engineering, Research, and Policy teams—while maintaining strict separation of classified and unclassified channels and escalating correctly (e.g., 'Claude cut a high-volume analytic triage queue from days to hours')
Work onsite frequently at customer facilities for enablement, workshops, and relationship building, on the customer’s systems and within their security and need-to-know rules
Maintain strong knowledge of the latest developments in LLM capabilities, agentic and Claude Code implementation patterns, and national security AI policy
You may be a good fit if you have:
Due to U.S. Government contract requirements, this position requires U.S. citizenship and an
active TS/SCI security clearance with a current full-scope polygraph
(a TS/SCI with CI polygraph may be considered where crossover is supportable)
Must have prior experience working with US national security
(defense and/or intelligence)
agencies
—ideally at the level of AI leadership, platform, and compute teams rather than a single program office—and a working knowledge of how national security agencies accredit, budget, govern compute, and measure mission (including the difference between FedRAMP High, IL5/IL6, and classified-fabric accreditation, and the role of cleared cloud providers and system integrators)
5+ years of experience in customer-facing roles such as Customer Success Manager, Technical Account Manager, Solutions Architect, or Consultant, with experience navigating complex stakeholder environments; able to work onsite at customer facilities in the National Capital Region 3-4 days per week
Experience driving success with consumption-based products (tokens, throughput, capacity) as well as seat-based products, including measuring adoption and value when you cannot see usage directly
Technical fluency with AI/ML concepts, API integration patterns, and agentic tooling such as Claude Code; familiarity with common LLM frameworks, tools, and evaluation approaches, and hands-on experience building something with an LLM API or coding agent, is a strong plus
Exceptional ability to build relationships with and communicate technical concepts to diverse stakeholders, from engineering and platform teams to security and accreditation officials to senior national security leadership
Judgment and discretion: never over-promises on dates, capabilities, or documentation; practices need-to-know as a reflex; keeps composure under political and competitive pressure; strategic mindset to identify mission transformation opportunities and translate them into actionable expansion plans
Excitement for engaging in cross-organizational collaboration, working through trade-offs, and balancing competing priorities—advocating for customer needs across internal (Applied AI, Policy, Research, Security) and external (cleared cloud provider, system integrator, program office) stakeholders
Passion for thinking creatively about how to use AI in a way that is safe and beneficial for the national security mission, and ultimately furthers the goal of advancing safe AI systems
A knack for bringing order to chaos and an enthusiastic 'roll up your sleeves' mentality—you're a true team player
