ABOUT THE ROLE You’ll lead engineering for Growth at Buffer across both product and marketing surfaces. The work spans acquisition, activation, and retention. You’ll connect how people discover Buffer and decide to sign up and whether they stay. We’re looking for someone who wants to stay close to the details, from where a customer gets stuck in a flow to the technical decisions that shape how it works. You’ll help the team decide which problems to solve, what to try first, and how to tell if we made things better for customers. You'll partner closely with Product, Design, Marketing and Data to shape technical direction, create space for engineers to do their best work, and build a culture of ownership and continuous improvement. WHAT YOU'LL DO - Support engineers through regular coaching, clear feedback, and meaningful career conversations. - Shape priorities with Product, Design, and Marketing, bringing your own point of view and grounding decisions in customer needs & data. - Stay close to technical decisions and product details. Help the team build clear, accessible, responsive experiences, and help judge when to keep refining and when to ship and learn. - Help connect customer insights, product changes, and measurement so we understand whether our work is helping. - We're also changing how we build with AI. You'll have room to help shape that, through your own experiments and by helping the team develop good judgment and systems to work with AI effectively. - Contribute to the wider Engineering team through hiring, shared practices, and improvements to how we work. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR - You've managed engineers and can talk concretely about helping people grow, giving feedback, and addressing performance concerns. - You care about how software feels to use. You notice unnecessary steps, unclear interactions, and details that get in someone's way. You could walk through something you helped build and explain the choices, compromises, and things you left out. - You have a strong engineering background and remain comfortable getting into technical details. That might mean reviewing code, exploring an architecture, building a prototype, or helping someone work through a difficult trade-off. - You’re ambitious about what you can build with AI. You use it in your own engineering work to take on bigger problems, and you know how to steer it, check its work, and make the calls that need your judgment. You help the engineers you lead do the same. - You communicate clearly in writing, take ownership, and work well with people across different disciplines and time zones. - You understand how a product helps a business grow, from how customers find it to why they pay for it and keep using it. You might have learned that through growth work and experimentation, or by growing a product as a founder or on an early-stage team. You use that understanding to decide what’s worth building and help engineers build it well. - You have a personal connection to making and sharing things. Maybe you've written a newsletter, shared your work online, built a side project, or run a small business. You understand something of the effort it takes to put your work out there and find an audience. You don't need a big following; we're interested in that connection and what it's taught you. OUR HIRING PROCESS - Please express your interest below by sharing your LinkedIn profile and resume, and a short note about what interests you in the role and why you think it could be a good match. (If you choose to use AI while writing your message, please limit usage to light edits or research. We'd love to hear your own voice come through.) - If we'd like to explore the fit further, we'll reach out to learn more about you. - Our interview process includes a conversation with a member of our hiring team (Sara https://www.linkedin.com/in/sara-almeida-b1a78012b/ or Caro https://www.linkedin.com/in/carolynkopprasch/), meeting the hiring manager for this role (Kateryna https://www.linkedin.com/in/kporshnieva/), getting to know some teammates and peers (varies based on schedules), and meeting our CEO, Joel https://www.linkedin.com/in/joelgascoigne/. - Our final stage is a two-day-long paid collaboration period. This is designed to mimic a real work project, so that we can each see what it's like to work together. Location: Munich, Germany About Anthropic Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems. About the role Anthropic is building the team to help the world's most ambitious organizations adopt Claude in ways that are transformative, safe, and lasting. Our Forward Deployed Engineers embed directly with strategic customers to ship production AI applications that solve real business problems. As this practice grows, we need a founding leader to build and scale it. As the first FDE Manager in DACH, you'll own the team that sits at the frontier of enterprise AI deployment. You'll hire and develop a high-performing team of FDEs, set the technical and operational bar for customer engagements, and build the playbooks that turn one-off successes into repeatable patterns. You'll work hand-in-hand with Engagement Managers who own delivery logistics and stakeholder management, while you ensure your team is shipping quality code, growing technically, and representing Anthropic at the highest level in customer environments. This is a player-coach role with a strong bias toward leadership. You'll stay close enough to the technical work to review architectures, debug production issues, and pair with your team when it matters — but your primary impact will come from the people you hire, the standards you set, and the culture you create. You'll partner cross-functionally with Sales, Product, and Engineering to shape how Anthropic serves its most strategic customers, and your team's field insights will directly influence product direction. This role requires someone who thrives in ambiguity and is energized by building from zero to one. You'll be defining what good looks like for FDE management at Anthropic — there is no existing playbook to follow. Responsibilities Hire, develop, and retain a world-class team of Forward Deployed Engineers. Set a high bar for technical talent and customer instincts. Conduct regular 1:1s, provide technical mentorship, and invest in the career growth of each team member. Create an environment where FDEs do the best work of their careers. Staff and oversee customer engagements across your team's portfolio, making resource allocation decisions that balance customer needs, team development, and business priorities. Collaborate with account teams and Engagement Managers during the pre-sales process to qualify engagements, scope work, and inform statements of work. Review technical architectures and code produced by your FDEs, ensuring the team ships high-quality, production-ready solutions that solve real customer problems. Stay hands-on enough to lead technical discovery sessions, prototype solutions, and debug complex issues alongside your team when needed. Build repeatable playbooks, starter repositories, integration templates, and an internal knowledge base that captures what your team learns in the field. Define team OKRs that tie to customer success outcomes and product adoption goals. Create operational cadences — standups, retros, engagement reviews — that keep the team aligned. Partner with Product and Engineering to translate field insights into product improvements. Serve as the voice of the customer in internal planning. Travel to customer sites as needed (25-50%), particularly during engagement kickoffs and for your team's highest-priority accounts. You may be a good fit if you have 10+ years of experience in software engineering, solutions architecture, or a technical customer-facing role such as forward deployed engineering or consulting. 2+ years of people management experience within a services/post-sales/FDE organization with a track record of hiring, developing, and retaining strong engineers. Experience building organizations from 0->1, not just inheriting an existing one. Experience working directly with enterprise customers on technical implementations, including comfort navigating complex organizational dynamics. Executive presence with the ability to move fluidly between strategic conversations with senior stakeholders and hands-on debugging sessions with engineers. Strong written and verbal communication skills. You can translate technical complexity into clear narratives for diverse audiences. Genuine excitement about building something new and defining what great looks like for a team that doesn't yet exist. Why this role matters You'll be a founding leader of a team that defines how enterprises adopt and scale AI. Your work will directly influence Anthropic's product direction, create reusable patterns for the broader customer base, and establish Anthropic as the trusted partner for AI transformation — all while advancing the responsible development of frontier AI systems. Logistics Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience Required field of study: A field relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience Minimum years of experience: Years of experience required will correlate with the internal job level requirements for the position Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices. Visa sponsorship: We do sponsor visas! However, we aren't able to successfully sponsor visas for every role and every candidate. But if we make you an offer, we will make every reasonable effort to get you a visa, and we retain an immigration lawyer to help with this. For roles performing work in California: We will consider for employment all qualified applicants, including those with arrest or conviction records or criminal histories, in a manner consistent with the requirements of applicable state and local laws, including the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, the City of Los Angeles’ Fair Chance Initiative for Hiring Ordinance, the Los Angeles County Fair Chance Ordinance for Employers, and the California Fair Chance Act. We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification. Not all strong candidates will meet every single qualification as listed. Research shows that people who identify as being from underrepresented groups are more prone to experiencing imposter syndrome and doubting the strength of their candidacy, so we urge you not to exclude yourself prematurely and to submit an application if you're interested in this work. We think AI systems like the ones we're building have enormous social and ethical implications. We think this makes representation even more important, and we strive to include a range of diverse perspectives on our team. Your safety matters to us. To protect yourself from potential scams, remember that Anthropic recruiters only contact you from @anthropic.com email addresses. In some cases, we may partner with vetted recruiting agencies who will identify themselves as working on behalf of Anthropic. Be cautious of emails from other domains. Legitimate Anthropic recruiters will never ask for money, fees, or banking information before your first day. If you're ever unsure about a communication, don't click any links—visit anthropic.com/careers directly for confirmed position openings. How we're different We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills. The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences. Come work with us! Anthropic is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and a lovely office space in which to collaborate with colleagues. Guidance on Candidates' AI Usage: Learn about our policy for using AI in our application process.

JOB PURPOSE: The Technical Program Governance team enables complex technical initiatives across PlayStation engineering organizations by creating clarity, alignment, and disciplined execution across organizational boundaries. As a Staff Technical Program Manager, you will lead large, strategic technical programs that span multiple teams, technologies, and stakeholders. You will translate business and technical objectives into executable plans, bring structure to ambiguity, and ensure risks, dependencies, decisions, and tradeoffs remain visible and actively managed. This role requires a strong technical foundation and the judgment to operate as a trusted partner to engineering and architecture leaders. You will influence without relying on positional authority, select and adapt program approaches to fit the problem, and improve the operating systems that help teams deliver effectively at scale. EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS: Essential • 8+ years of relevant technical program or project management experience, including ownership of complex software or technology initiatives spanning multiple teams or organizations. • Demonstrated technical fluency across software systems, platforms, architecture, integrations, and engineering practices; able to understand system interactions, ask informed technical questions, and translate technical complexity into program decisions. • Proven ability to lead large strategic programs end to end, from problem definition and planning through execution, delivery, and measurable outcomes. • Strong independent judgment and problem-solving skills, with experience operating effectively in ambiguous environments where the path forward is not predefined. • Experience managing cross-team dependencies, technical risks, roadmaps, milestones, requirements, decision points, and delivery tradeoffs across the software development lifecycle. • Ability to influence senior technical and business leaders, build alignment across competing priorities, and drive decisions without direct authority. • Experience designing or improving program operating models, governance, planning cadences, metrics, or ways of working that scale beyond a single initiative. • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create concise executive narratives while maintaining sufficient technical depth for engineering audiences. • Demonstrated ability to mentor, coach, or raise the effectiveness of other TPMs and cross-functional partners through reusable practices and knowledge sharing. Desirable • Prior hands-on experience in software engineering, systems engineering, QA, architecture, or another technical discipline. • Experience supporting platform, infrastructure, developer tooling, cloud, distributed systems, or other complex engineering environments. • Experience leading standardization, transformation, or organizational change initiatives across multiple technical teams. • Background in the games or interactive entertainment industry. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE FOR DECISION MAKING: Technical Program Management • Lead large, strategic technical programs spanning multiple engineering teams, organizations, technologies, or geographies, with accountability for end-to-end outcomes. • Build integrated program plans and roadmaps that connect technical requirements, architecture, dependencies, milestones, resources, risks, and decision points. • Develop sufficient understanding of system architecture and technical constraints to identify cross-system impacts, challenge assumptions constructively, and improve planning and decision quality. • Partner closely with engineering leaders, architects, product partners, and other technical stakeholders to translate objectives into clear execution strategies and drive resolution of complex issues. • Anticipate and actively manage technical and organizational dependencies, surfacing tradeoffs early and driving decisions before they become delivery blockers. • Establish clear program health measures and provide decision-quality visibility into progress, risk, scope, and outcomes for senior stakeholders. Strategy and Decision Support • Operate as a trusted partner to senior leaders, using technical context, program data, and organizational knowledge to shape recommendations and execution strategy. • Use independent judgment to determine the right program methodology, governance, and operating model for the work rather than applying process mechanically. • Analyze complex problems across organizations and technologies, identify patterns and root causes, and drive practical solutions that balance technical, business, schedule, and resource considerations. • Strengthen requirements and major program decisions by connecting business objectives with technical realities, long-term implications, and customer or organizational value. • Create clear narratives and recommendations that enable senior leaders to understand options, tradeoffs, risks, and required decisions. Organizational Impact and TPM Practice • Design and improve scalable program practices, governance, planning cadences, OKRs/KPIs, and decision mechanisms that increase clarity and execution effectiveness across multiple teams. • Identify where existing processes or methodologies create unnecessary friction and adapt or simplify them while preserving appropriate rigor and accountability. • Lead change and standardization efforts where needed, building adoption through stakeholder engagement, practical implementation, and measurable outcomes. • Mentor TPMs and cross-functional partners, share reusable practices, and contribute to stronger technical program management capability across the organization. KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS The individual will be measured on: • Successful delivery of large, complex technical programs with clear business and engineering outcomes. • Quality and timeliness of decisions, risk management, dependency resolution, and executive visibility. • Effectiveness in creating alignment across technical teams and senior stakeholders without direct authority. • Measurable improvements to program operating models, governance, and organizational execution capability. • Demonstrated technical credibility, independent judgment, and ability to raise the effectiveness of others.
