Location: San Francisco; New York City
Workplace: Hybrid
We're hiring a Compensation Lead to build Perplexity's compensation function and own its day-to-day execution. You'll build the programs and processes that support how we hire, recognize, and retain people.
You should be comfortable moving between program design and an individual offer, building longer-term structure while keeping today's decisions moving. The goal is a compensation approach that is competitive, financially sound, and clear enough for people to use, without adding unnecessary complexity.
WHAT YOU'LL OWN
- Build the compensation foundation. Assess existing practices, data, and tools; prioritize the gaps; and develop recommendations on compensation philosophy, market positioning, and cash and equity guidelines.
- Develop salary ranges and market benchmarks. Establish a consistent approach to pricing roles across functions and locations. Partner with People and business leaders on job scope and leveling, and explain where market data is useful or incomplete.
- Own day-to-day compensation decisions. Be the primary partner for offers, promotions, pay adjustments, and compensation questions. Evaluate recommendations against market data, internal equity, and budget, with clear approval paths for exceptions.
- Design and run compensation reviews. Build the calendar, planning models, manager guidance, and approval process. Coordinate with Finance, People Operations, Payroll, and equity partners to carry decisions through to accurate implementation.
- Inform leadership decisions. Model the cost and employee impact of proposed changes to salary and equity programs. Present a recommendation and its trade-offs, then own execution once approved.
- Identify and address inconsistencies. Assess pay compression and potential inequities across teams, levels, and locations. Partner with People leadership and Legal on appropriate reviews and recommend actions.
- Build processes people can use. Establish decision records, recruiter and manager guidance, and clear explanations of compensation programs. Improve recurring workflows so consistent decisions don't depend on individual knowledge or one-off conversations.
- Own the data and tools behind the work. Establish reliable compensation records, select and manage benchmarking resources, and improve reporting and quality checks. Use approved automation and AI tools where they help, with appropriate protection for employee information and verification of results.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Experience building compensation programs: You've established or substantially rebuilt compensation frameworks and processes with limited infrastructure, and stayed accountable for running them after launch.
- Technical compensation depth: Hands-on experience with market pricing, salary ranges, cash and equity programs, compensation reviews, and individual pay recommendations.
- Strong analytical judgment: You can build and audit models, reconcile imperfect data, and explain your assumptions. You know when a benchmark is a useful comparison and when it misses the role.
- Ability to influence decisions: You can turn analysis into a clear recommendation, discuss trade-offs with leadership, and constructively challenge an approach that isn't working.
- Independent, hands-on execution: You can set priorities, build a workable process, and manage urgent requests without losing progress on longer-term work. You're comfortable being both the person designing the program and the person checking the data.
- Discretion and clear communication: You handle sensitive information carefully and explain compensation decisions in language that recruiters, managers, and employees can understand.

We are primarily an in-person company based in San Francisco, with growing offices across North America, Europe, and Asia.
We are guided by a set of values that are at the core of our actions and define our culture: Trust, Customer Obsession, Craftsmanship, Intensity, and a commitment to balancing Family along the way. These values are the foundation of our work, and we are committed to upholding them in everything we do.
Our co-founders are Bret Taylor https://www.linkedin.com/in/brettaylor/ and Clay Bavor https://www.linkedin.com/in/claybavor/. Bret currently serves as Board Chair of OpenAI. Previously, he was co-CEO of Salesforce (which had acquired the company he founded, Quip) and CTO of Facebook. Bret was also one of Google's earliest product managers and co-creator of Google Maps. Before founding Sierra, Clay spent 18 years at Google, where he most recently led Google Labs. Earlier, he started and led Google’s AR/VR effort, Project Starline, and Google Lens. Before that, Clay led the product and design teams for Google Workspace.
What you’ll do
We are looking for a Compensation Partner to join our Compensation team. In this role, you'll play a critical part in supporting and evolving our global compensation programs through robust analysis, scalable processes, AI-native workflows, and cross-functional collaboration. You will serve as a trusted compensation subject matter expert to stakeholders and employees as we continue to grow.
- Conduct detailed compensation analysis and modeling, leveraging AI and automation to support program design and decision-making.
- Lead market benchmarking efforts globally, building scalable workflows for market reviews and ongoing evaluation of internal equity and external competitiveness.
- Manage the execution of our compensation planning cycles, with a focus on data accuracy, analysis, and process optimization.
- Partner with the Recruiting team to optimize offer processes, providing market intelligence and internal equity insights.
- Support stock plan administration, partnering with Legal to manage equity grant processes and improve the accuracy and employee experience of equity operations.
- Develop and maintain compensation tools, dashboards, and self-service experiences that enable Recruiting, People, and business leaders to access compensation insights.
- Champion AI-native workflows by integrating AI tools and automation into compensation processes to improve operational efficiency and surface sharper insights.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
- 5+ years of compensation or total rewards experience in high-growth technology environments.
- Proven experience developing and maintaining compensation bands, including sales OTE and equity frameworks, and job architectures at scale.
- Strong understanding of global compensation practices, with experience supporting international markets.
- Hands-on experience with equity compensation, including RSUs and stock options, and comfort navigating equity administration processes and platforms such as Carta.
- Highly collaborative, with a track record of building strong cross-functional partnerships, particularly with Recruiting, Legal, and People teams.
- Skilled in leveraging compensation data platforms such as Pave, Radford, and Levels.FYI http://Levels.FYI, and HRIS platforms such as Workday to generate insights and inform decision-making.
- An AI-native operating mindset: you instinctively look for ways to use AI, automation, and technology to improve how work gets done rather than defaulting to manual processes.
EVEN BETTER…
- You've supported compensation programs spanning multiple geographies, including navigating local pay regulations, statutory requirements, and regional market data.
- You have experience at a large or high-growth technology company and understand how to design scalable compensation programs and processes.
- You’ve built AI-powered or automated workflows that replaced manual operational processes or created new self-service capabilities.
OUR VALUES
- Trust: We build trust with our customers with our accountability, empathy, quality, and responsiveness. We build trust in AI by making it more accessible, safe, and useful. We build trust with each other by showing up for each other professionally and personally, creating an environment that enables all of us to do our best work.

How we're different
We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills.
The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.
Come work with us!
Anthropic is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and a lovely office space in which to collaborate with colleagues.

CONTEXT & PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Total Rewards team is entering a high-intensity period: a year-end compensation review cycle, active benchmarking work, custom bonus plan reviews, and a rising volume of analytical deliverables supporting executive and board-level reporting. To protect bandwidth and quality, we are bringing in a mid-level contractor to work closely with and under the supervision of our Paris-based Compensation & Benefits Expert, reporting directly to the Head of Total Rewards. This is a hands-on, execution-focused role for someone with genuine C&B grounding who can work with light direction once context is set, and who understands what makes compensation data credible.
WHAT YOU'LL BE WORKING ON
Year-End Compensation Review
- Support data preparation and validation for the annual merit, performance, and bonus review cycles: building and maintaining population files, tracking timelines, and flagging data quality issues before they become problems.
- Work closely with the C&B Expert on modelling and scenario analysis (budget impact, distribution curves, outlier identification), producing clean, auditable outputs.
- Contribute to salary budget modelling and refresh of salary structures using latest market data, including updates to merit matrices.
- Coordinate with HRBPs and People Ops on data collection and sign-off workflows to keep the cycle on track.
Analytical Work for Board & Executive Reporting
- On direction from the Head of Total Rewards, carry out the underlying data pulls, analysis, and cross-checks to populate compensation metrics and summaries used in board and executive slides.
- Produce clean, presentation-ready tables and data panels with accurate footnotes and sourcing, so outputs can be directly incorporated into slide decks.
Bonus Plan Design Reviews
- This contractor may provide support to the C&B Expert and Head of Total Rewards during bonus plan reviews, including
- Preparing and updating slide decks to support design discussions.
- Running employee data analyses and refreshing payout range modelling for plan redesigns.
- Using AI tools to update bonus plan rules documentation in Word as designs evolve, ensuring plan write-ups accurately reflect agreed changes ahead of final review.
Ad Hoc C&B Support
- Support the C&B Expert on operational tasks: Workday data uploads, equity grant list preparation and validation, and patent premium tracking.
- Support the C&B Expert and Head of Total Rewards on ad hoc projects. Examples may include aspects of job architecture and related market benchmarking analytics, pay equity & equity grant modelling.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Requirement
Experience
4 years+ in Compensation & Benefits or Total Rewards. C&B-specific experience is required; broader HR analytics backgrounds without meaningful C&B exposure will not be considered.
Education
Degree in a quantitative discipline preferred (e.g. Finance, Economics, Statistics, or equivalent).
Excel & Modelling
Advanced Excel is non-negotiable: pivot tables, scenario modelling, audit-proof workbooks, and confident handling of large datasets.
Benchmarking Tools
Hands-on experience with Radford or Mercer Comptryx strongly preferred. Familiarity with the mechanics of job matching and market data interpretation is expected.
Workday
Experience using Workday for compensation cycle management is a strong plus.
Stakeholder Exposure
Experience working with or supporting stakeholders outside France — whether across European markets or globally — is a plus.
Autonomy
Able to work from a defined brief with minimal hand-holding. Asks the right clarifying questions early; doesn't need ongoing supervision once context is clear.
Languages
Fluent English required (working language of the team). French strongly preferred — most day-to-day collaborators are Paris-based.
Tools
Comfort with AI tools (e.g. Claude, Gemini) for document drafting and workflow efficiency is welcome.
WHAT THIS ROLE IS (AND ISN'T)
This is not a strategy or design role — Ledger already has senior expertise in-house for that. What we need is someone who executes cleanly and independently at the analytical and operational level, and who brings enough C&B literacy to produce outputs that don't need to be re-done. You will be working on real, high-stakes deliverables from day one.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Run the monthly and quarterly commission cycle, from pulling data and calculating commissions to validating payouts, getting approvals and handing off to payroll.
- Investigate rep questions, document what you find, recommend fixes, and clear issues quickly so reps trust their payouts.
- Work with Salesforce and data owners to keep source data clean, map new fields and deal types, and find upstream problems before they turn into payout errors.
- Reconcile and audit payouts against payroll, bookings and plan terms every cycle.
- Model the cost and payout impact of proposed plan changes and set up new plans in the system.
- Automate manual steps, tighten SLAs and build reporting on attainment, payout cost and comp effectiveness.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
- 5+ years in sales compensation, commissions operations or a closely related finance/RevOps role.
- A track record of managing commission cycles across multiple regions, currencies, and payroll schedules, from data collection through payout validation, approvals, and payroll handoff.
- Strong analytical skills, including payout modeling, data reconciliation, and investigating discrepancies against compensation plan terms.
- Experience using Salesforce to pull and review sales data for commission calculations.
- Ability to configure sales compensation tools to calculate, validate, and report commission payouts.
- Clear, calm communication with sellers and leaders, including during difficult payout conversations.
EVEN BETTER…
- Familiarity with commission accounting, including accruals, journal entries, and month-end close.

THE ROLE
ElevenLabs is scaling globally at extraordinary speed, growing from 400 to 1,000+ by the end of 2026. We operate across 46+ countries, with a highly distributed workforce spanning researchers, engineers, GTM teams, operators, creatives, and frontier AI specialists. Compensation and total rewards are core to how we attract and retain the best builders in the world.
This environment is inherently complex. Different regulatory frameworks. Different talent markets. Different role archetypes. High volatility in frontier AI compensation benchmarks. That complexity is not a constraint, it’s the challenge.
We are looking for someone to own and evolve our global compensation and total rewards strategy, designing systems that are competitive in frontier AI markets, internally consistent, globally scalable, and built for long-term sustainability.
You will operate as the single point of accountability for compensation architecture across the company, partnering closely with Operations, Legal and Finance.
If you’re energized by solving hard global compensation problems, building clarity across diverse markets, and designing systems that scale globally without slowing the company down, this role is for you.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
COMPENSATION STRATEGY & PHILOSOPHY
- Own and continuously refine ElevenLabs’ global compensation philosophy.
- Ensure pay, equity, and incentives reinforce attraction, retention, and performance.
- Balance market competitiveness with internal equity and financial discipline.
- Serve as a trusted advisor on complex, high-impact compensation decisions.
JOB ARCHITECTURE & LEVELING
- Design systems that introduce rigor without slowing the company down.
- Evolve our structure intentionally to match our scale: mature enough to support 46+ countries and a diverse set of roles, but not over-engineered or bureaucratic.
- Drive clarity and consistency in job architecture, leveling frameworks, and compensation bands globally.
EQUITY & LONG-TERM INCENTIVES
- Design equity programs that reflect a core ElevenLabs belief: employees should be genuine owners in the company and invested in our long-term ambition.
- Own our equity philosophy, structure, and grant strategy.
- Partner with Finance and Legal on equity design, refresh cycles, and promotion grants.
COMPENSATION CYCLES & GOVERNANCE
- Assist annual compensation reviews end-to-end.
- Design clear off-cycle governance and decision frameworks.
- Build calibration rigor and tooling that scales globally.
- Introduce AI-enabled workflows where appropriate to improve speed and consistency.
- Act as the final escalation point for leveling and pay consistency decisions.
BENEFITS & TOTAL REWARDS
- Own global benefits strategy across a distributed workforce.
- Balance standardisation with regional relevance.
- Ensure benefits are competitive in frontier talent markets while remaining operationally scalable.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
EXPERIENCE
- 5+ years in Compensation or Total Rewards, ideally in high-growth technology companies that operate across multiple countries
- Ownership of equity programs
- Strong track record of building compensation systems that scale
- Experience designing and evolving job architectures and leveling systems
- Experience operating in fast-scaling, ambiguous environments
SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES
- First-principles thinker: approach problems without bias
- Hands-on builder: comfortable designing systems from scratch
- Strong analytical skills: the ability to translate data into clear, strategic recommendations
- Comfortable partnering with senior leaders and influencing decisions in complex, fast-moving environments
- Excellent communication skills
- High standards and high ownership

WHO WE ARE
Notion is the collaborative AI workspace where teams and agents think together https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkpYpWfEK5s. We're building one place where your knowledge, projects, meetings, and AI tools live side by side, so work is faster, clearer, and less fragmented. Millions of individuals, small teams, and large companies run their work on Notion.
Notinos (our employees) are customer zero in bringing this future of work to life. We care about craft, building things that last, and the belief that great work is still fundamentally human. Our goal isn’t to ship the next feature. Each and every team of Notinos is working to set the standard for how humans work together in the AI era. From building a business’s system of record to making and managing AI agents to automating away the busy work, we care deeply about giving our customers more time for their life’s work.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
As our GTM Compensation Lead on Commercial Operations, you’ll own commissions strategy, design, and execution for GTM. This is an opportunity to evolve how GTM Comp supports a growing GTM org through Notion’s AI-era selling motion and Enterprise growth. You’ll set the incentive systems that shape how our sellers focus, partner, and grow with customers. On a typical week, you’ll work with senior GTM leaders — including the Head of Sales and geo leaders — to translate business priorities into clear, accurate, scalable comp programs.
WHAT YOU'LL ACHIEVE:
- By your 90th day, map the current GTM Comp operating model and publish a roadmap for evolving the function as GTM grows.
- Introduce AI quick wins that improve the quality of work: triage inbound questions, help reps estimate payouts, flag discrepancies across systems, and automate reminders tied to the comp calendar.
- Build a planning-cycle framework that makes design inputs, trade-offs, decision rights, and timelines clear across GTM, Finance, and Commercial Operations.
- Provide board-level updates, including clear reporting on plan health, payout accuracy, systems quality, and key design decisions.
SKILLS YOU'LL NEED TO BRING:
- Demonstrated judgment balancing Finance discipline with GTM effectiveness — you can protect accuracy and controls while designing plans that support the selling motion.
- Strong financial modeling and data fluency, with the ability to translate complex plan mechanics into clear analysis, recommendations, and executive-ready narratives.
- Experience leading transformative operational projects from design through rollout, especially where cross-functional alignment and change management matter.
- Track record of building and maintaining sustainable quarterly operating cadences, including clear calendars, communications frameworks, and repeatable review moments. Ideally you have managed this process at a public company.
- AI-fluent operating style: you use AI to improve decision quality, automate manual checks, identify data discrepancies, and build tools or workflows that make teams more self-serve.
- Familiarity with Everstage a plus!
Notion is committed to providing highly competitive cash compensation, equity, and benefits. The compensation offered for this role will be based on multiple factors such as location, the role’s scope and complexity, and the candidate’s experience and expertise, and may vary from the range provided below. For roles based in San Francisco or New York City, the estimated base salary range for this role is $230,000 - $257,000 per year.

A NOTE ON AI
You don’t need deep AI expertise for every role, but we do expect every Notino to be intellectually curious, drawn to tinkering and discovery, and excited to use AI as a real collaborator in their work. For some roles, AI fluency is a core requirement — when that’s the case, we'll say so explicitly in the qualifications. People who thrive here don’t treat AI as a novelty. They use it to think better, and make their work easier for others to build on.
EQUAL OPPORTUNITY & ACCOMMODATIONS
We hire talented people from a wide range of backgrounds. If you’re excited about this role but don’t meet every bullet, we still encourage you to apply. Notion is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of any legally protected characteristic. Consistent with applicable law, we will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records. Notion provides reasonable accommodations during the application process; if you need one, please let your recruiter know.
Notion is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
