HyperHug is an international game development studio specializing in the shooter genre. Our main office is based in Cyprus, but our talented team works remotely from around the world. We’re developing Oxide: Survival Island, an immersive multiplayer survival shooter for mobile platforms, and we’re always looking for motivated individuals who want to grow with us, contribute their creativity, and help shape the future of our games.
Are you a commercially minded leader with a passion for the video game industry? Do you aspire to shape and lead the legal function at a fast-growing gaming company?
This is a unique opportunity to establish and own the legal department at HyperHug, the creator of Oxide: Survival Island—a multiplayer survival shooter that has engaged over 100 million players worldwide. We're looking for an experienced law leader to join our Limassol office and oversee our global legal strategy.
As our Senior Legal Counsel, you will take on a broader remit than most in-house roles. You’ll build, implement, and maintain the corporate, commercial, and employment framework, protect our intellectual property across international markets, collaborate closely with product teams to help launch new features, and work directly with founders and key stakeholders. If you’re ready to move from advising on decisions to making them, this role is for you.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Lead Operational Excellence: Build and maintain corporate, commercial and employment framework.
- Drive Commercial & IP Strategy: Protect and commercialise the IP behind the company’s game and brand.
- Partner with Product: Work with product, design and marketing teams on new features and designs.
- Own the Platform Relationship: Develop terms, in-app purchase, subscription rules and refunds.
- Protect Players and Data: Own terms of service, privacy policies, GDPR compliance, and the requirements of the Apple App Store and Google Play. Own player safety and child protection: age rating, age assurance, parental controls, moderation and reporting.
- Negotiate Commercial Deals: Draft and negotiate publishing, distribution, platform, UA and outsourcing agreements.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
- Experience: 7+ years of post-qualification experience (PQE) in Corporate, Commercial and IP at a Cypriot or UK law firm or Big 4 company; Candidates combining top-tier law firm or Big 4 experience with in-house experience at a leading video game, IT or tech company will also be considered.
- Education: A UK or Cypriot bachelor’s degree in law (LL.B.) is required; other jurisdictions will not be considered given Cyprus's common law framework. An LL.M. and/or legal ranking recognition is a strong advantage.
- Technical Expertise: Deep expertise in intellectual property law.
- Compliance Expertise: Applied GDPR experience beyond policy drafting, and working knowledge of app store policy in practice (Apple and Google developer terms, in-app purchase, subscription and refund rules) and player safety/content moderation obligations for a multiplayer game.
- Language Skills: Native-level Greek and fluent English (written and spoken).
WHAT WE OFFER
- Medical insurance for you and your family, including dental and optical coverage
- €500 monthly Wolt allowance
- SportBenefit subscription
- Company car
- Up to €900 per month towards school or university fees for your children
- Top-level equipment (laptop, monitor, etc.)
- Learning and development opportunities
- Discounts with partner businesses
WHO WE ARE
HyperHug is based in Limassol, building and publishing hit games enjoyed by millions. Our flagship title, Oxide: Survival Island, drops players into a persistent multiplayer world to gather, build, raid, and survive together.

AI USE DURING THE INTERVIEW PROCESS

OUR USE OF AI IN HIRING
We use AI tools to help manage our recruitment process efficiently and fairly. Specifically:
- Ashby and Brainerr help us review inbound applications by surfacing candidates who best match the role requirements we've defined. This tool does not make hiring decisions; it helps our team prioritize which applications to review first.
- Granola takes notes during our interview calls so our team can focus on the conversation with you.
All hiring decisions are made by humans. Our team reviews applications, conducts interviews, and makes final selections. AI tools assist us but never replace human judgment, and these practices are conducted in compliance with applicable data protection, AI governance, and labor laws. Your data is not used to train AI models.
In accordance with New York City Local Law 144, an independent bias audit has been conducted on "Automated Employment Decision Tools"; results are available for Ashby https://www.ashbyhq.com/downloadables/ashby-bias-audit-08-2024.pdf.

From building a business’s system of record to making and managing AI agents to automating away the busy work, we care deeply about giving our customers more time for their life’s work.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
We are looking for an experienced attorney to join our Commercial Counsel team. - Have broad responsibility for negotiating SaaS AI agreements and providing practical day-to-day commercial legal support - primarily in the Americas region - for the sales, marketing, channels, and customer success teams with a focus on supporting the Enterprise segment
- Collaborate with Product Legal team on product and operational items that impact customer agreements and go-to-market initiatives

- 10+ years of combined experience practicing as a commercial attorney within a law firm or software technology company
- 2+ years in-house experience at a SaaS and/or AI technology company
- Privacy and artificial intelligence subject matter expertise, including privacy regulations (GDPR, e-Privacy Directive, CCPA, etc.) and AI regulations (EU AI Act) with the ability to incorporate evolving requirements into the customer facing agreements

- Demonstrated curiosity about AI and a willingness to adopt AI tools to work smarter, move faster, and deliver better results. Developing your personal AI fluency is required for this role
- Resilience, resourcefulness, and the ability to make recommendations and decisions with imperfect facts
- Independent and strategic thought combined with excellent team player qualities and a willingness to take on additional responsibilities
NICE TO HAVES:
- Certified Information Privacy Professional or equivalent
- Prior experience with a fast growing technology company

A NOTE ON AI
You don’t need deep AI expertise for every role, but we do expect every Notino to be intellectually curious, drawn to tinkering and discovery, and excited to use AI as a real collaborator in their work. For some roles, AI fluency is a core requirement — when that’s the case, we'll say so explicitly in the qualifications. People who thrive here don’t treat AI as a novelty. They use it to think better, and make their work easier for others to build on.

ABOUT CLIPBOARD
Our mission is to uplift as many communities as possible. We do this through our app-based marketplace that connects healthcare professionals with the workplaces that need amazing workers. This enables hundreds of thousands of people to achieve financial stability for themselves and their families while providing essential care to millions of people across the U.S.
Founded in 2016, we are a remote-first team of over 1,000 people building a top Y-Combinator company https://www.ycombinator.com/topcompanies/ and have been profitable since 2022. We’re the leader in Long-Term Care staffing and are rapidly expanding into Home Health, Hospitals, and more, meaning we have more work to do than people to do it, and are growing our team to support millions more people and their communities.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
This isn’t the type of in-house counsel position where you will be siloed into a few narrow workstreams or deal with the same issue day after day. At Clipboard, you’ll be tasked with tackling novel legal challenges, flexing different muscles across various areas of law, and making high-impact decisions in a fast-moving environment. You’ll be tasked with building internal processes and systems, not simply managing a docket of individual cases.
You have both the sharp instincts of a high-stakes litigator and an entrepreneurial spirit. You crave a creative and collaborative—rather than purely adversarial—experience in the law. You are a skilled and concise writer and communicator, and excel at and enjoy detail-oriented tasks, fact-finding, and investigative work. You have a strong degree of curiosity and are particularly adept at identifying subtle clues which may be indicative of a much wider and important universe of issues you need to dive into. You can navigate fairly esoteric internal databases to collect and digest complex sets of data. You are eager to bring your experience with litigation and investigations to an in-house role on a small and supportive team that affords opportunity for professional growth. You look forward to channeling your skills as a litigator into supporting and advocating for a mission-driven and groundbreaking business. You embrace and are not daunted by ambiguity or a challenge, have a perennially positive attitude, and are eager to help build a legal department and support the business in a fast-paced environment. You enjoy taking the lead on projects, and naturally take the initiative to solve problems and improve and streamline systems and processes.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage various litigation workstreams relating to independent contractor classification, including but not limited to matters relating to unemployment insurance claims and disputes with users of the Clipboard marketplace.
- Manage other litigation workstreams, including but not limited to professional negligence and data privacy matters.
- Partner with both internal and outside counsel on managing high-stakes litigation matters, including by drafting responsive pleadings, briefs, and other important documents.
- Work closely with outside counsel on developing and participating in the company’s eDiscovery strategy, including custodial document collection, review, and production.
- Manage the company’s third-party subpoena response strategy.
- Provide legal guidance to a wide range of cross function teams, including the Company’s product and operations teams.
- Support other legal workstreams depending on the needs of the team and company.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE 90 DAYS IN:
- You are deeply familiar with all pending litigation and investigation matters and have taken over leadership of at least one high-stakes matter, including communicating and coordinating with outside counsel and internal stakeholders.
- You have a deep understanding of the company’s internal databases and can quickly collect and analyze complex sets of data, both for the purposes of developing proactive risk mitigation strategies and responding to high-stakes litigation document requests.
- You fully own the unemployment response workstream, third-party subpoena response process, and a docket of other litigation matters, including a subset of the company’s medical malpractice matters, and can operate completely independently on these fronts with minimal supervision.
- In at least one litigation matter, you worked with outside counsel to develop an eDiscovery plan that minimizes the costs related to custodial document collection and review while still meeting our discovery obligations.
- You proactively and quickly jump in to respond to requests for legal guidance from other business functions, and provide high quality legal advice that incorporates the risk tolerance of the business.
- You are contributing to legal strategy decisions made by the Head of Legal.
NEED TO HAVE:
- JD with at least 5 years of experience
- Bias toward action and solving (not just spotting) problems
- Ability to take ownership of your work and manage projects independently
- Excellent communication and writing abilities
- Comfort and skill in navigating complexity and ambiguity, and working on a leanly staffed team
- Willingness to quickly dive into new and “unfamiliar” legal issues
- Ability to work under pressure and autonomously, and meet tight deadlines
- Agility and flexibility to take on new tasks and responsibilities when necessary to support the business and legal team’s needs in a fast-moving, rapidly scaling, and dynamic tech company
- Willingness and ability to engage with and interpret data, especially from unfamiliar sources
NICE TO HAVE:
- Experience handling arbitrations and class actions
- Experience with eDiscovery issues, including large-scale custodial data collection, review, and production
- Clerkship experience
- Government experience
- Experience working cross-culturally and with diverse, global teams
INTERVIEW PROCESS:
- Application Review
- Case Study
- Case Interview with a member of our Legal team
- Hiring Manager interview with our Head of Legal
- Executive Interview with our Co-CEO
SALARY:
The base salary range for this position is $190,000 - $220,000. This role will also be eligible for discretionary annual bonus (paid on a quarterly basis) and/or equity compensation.
