Location: San Francisco, CA Workplace: OnSite ABOUT US At LangChain, our mission is to make intelligent agents ubiquitous. We build the foundation for agent engineering in the real world, helping developers move from prototypes to production-ready AI agents that teams can rely on. We began as widely adopted open-source tools and have grown to also offer a platform for building, evaluating, deploying, and operating agents at scale. With $125M raised at Series B from IVP, Sequoia, Benchmark, CapitalG, and Sapphire Ventures, we’re at a stage where we’re continuing to develop new products, growth is accelerating, and all team members have meaningful impact on what we build and how we work together. LangChain is a place where your contributions can shape how this technology shows up in the real world. Today, our platform includes LangSmith (Observability, Evaluation, Deployment, Fleet, and Sandboxes), our open source frameworks (LangChain, LangGraph, and Deep Agents), and the newly launched LangSmith Engine for autonomous agent improvement. We have 100M+ monthly open source downloads, 6,000+ active LangSmith customers, and 5 of the Fortune 10 use LangSmith in production (+ 35% of the Fortune 500 overall), including teams at Klarna, Clay, Coinbase, Workday, Lyft, Cloudflare, Harvey, Rippling, Vanta, LinkedIn, Monday.com, Nvidia, and Bridgewater. About the team SmithDB is LangChain's internal database team. We're building a storage and query layer purpose-built for AI observability and evaluation. Within six months we went from idea to a production system that offers industry leading performance and scalability for agent observability data. We're a small, fast team of systems engineers tackling genuinely hard problems: storage layout, query execution, compaction, and scaling toward trillions of agent traces. We develop in Rust, run on Kubernetes, and integrate tightly with S3/GCS/Azure Blob. There are no legacy constraints; this is a greenfield system with real production load and ambitious engineering goals. About the role We're looking for a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead the SmithDB team. This is not a pure people-management role. You'll write production code, review PRs at the systems level, make architectural calls, and be in the weeds alongside your engineers. At the same time, you'll own team health, hiring, technical roadmap, and coordination with the broader LangSmith platform. The ideal candidate has deep systems or database engineering experience and genuinely prefers to stay technical while growing a team. What you'll do - Write and review production Rust code across ingestion, query execution, and storage layers - Lead architectural decisions on storage format, compaction, indexing, and query planning - Drive performance investigations using memory and CPU profiling tools; own the path from profiling to shipped fix - Design and harden the distributed deployment of SmithDB services on Kubernetes (multi-tenant, high-throughput, low-latency) - Contribute to cloud object store integrations (S3, GCS, Azure Blob) and set the standard for how SmithDB manages data at rest and in flight - Build and maintain observability for the engine itself: metrics, tracing, debug tooling - Manage a small but growing team of systems engineers: set goals, run 1:1s, provide technical mentorship, and grow careers - Own the SmithDB technical roadmap in partnership with LangSmith product and engineering leadership - Communicate progress, risks, and tradeoffs clearly to the broader organization: you write concise, decision-ready updates What you'll bring - 7+ years in systems or database engineering, with at least 2 years in a technical lead or engineering management role - Production Rust experience — you can write it, review it, and have opinions on how to structure it at scale - Deep understanding of database or storage engine internals: query execution, storage layouts, indexing, compaction - Proficiency in systems performance analysis: memory allocators, CPU hotspots, lock contention, async runtimes (Tokio) - Experience deploying and operating distributed services on Kubernetes in a production, multi-tenant environment - Familiarity with cloud object storage (S3-compatible APIs, consistency models, cost/performance tradeoffs) - Proven track record of managing engineers — you can recruit, retain, and level-up a team without losing your technical edge Nice-to-have: - Experience building or contributing to columnar storage formats (Parquet, Arrow), OLAP query engines, or time-series stores - Background in observability infrastructure or tracing pipelines (OpenTelemetry, ClickHouse, Prometheus) - Experience scaling a system from early-stage to hundreds of billions / trillions of records Compensation Salary Range: $240,000-$300,000 USD Compensation Philosophy: We offer competitive compensation that includes base salary, variable compensation for relevant roles, meaningful equity, benefits, and perks. We are hiring for this role across a range of scope, and the compensation band reflects that. Your offer depends on what we learn about your impact, craft, leadership, and communication during the interview process. We will tell you early where you’re tracking and talk comp with you before offer stage. Team members in the EU, UK, and APAC receive locally competitive benefits aligned with regional norms and regulations. BENEFITS Benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, flexible vacation, a 401(k) plan, meals on in-office days in the US and more.

The team sits at the intersection of technical implementation, customer experience, and product feedback; helping customers navigate the complexity of their data, identity, security, and development environments while ensuring they are set up for long-term success. About the Role The Cloud Onboarding Architect Lead is the technical leader for Guided Setup across our dbt enterprise customer base. You’ll own the most complex and highest-visibility setup engagements while also helping define how the entire team delivers setup at scale. This role combines hands-on technical delivery with technical leadership. You’ll be the person other Cloud Onboarding Architects turn to when a customer has an unusual architecture, an implementation has stalled, or the existing playbook doesn’t quite fit. You’ll also work across Professional Services, Engineering, Product, and Design to turn those individual challenges into better processes, documentation, and product experiences for everyone. This is a role for someone who enjoys being both deep in the technical details and responsible for the bigger picture. Technologies You’ll Use Modern Data Warehouses (Snowflake / Databricks / BigQuery / Redshift), Repositories (GitHub / GitLab / Azure DevOps), Identity Providers (Okta / Entra ID / Google), PrivateLink / Private Service Connect, AWS, Azure, GCP, SQL, SSO, OAuth, Rocketlane What You’ll Do Own complex and escalated setup engagements Lead Guided Setup for our most technically complex, strategically important, and highest-visibility enterprise accounts across all four milestones: data warehouse/repository configuration, SSO, RBAC/SCIM, and user access Serve as the senior technical escalation point when setup issues threaten onboarding timelines or customer activation, including complex PrivateLink, OAuth, SSO, networking, and identity scenarios Work directly with customer technical stakeholders and administrators to understand their environment, identify risks, and guide them toward a successful configuration Anticipate technical blockers early and create clear plans to resolve them before they impact the broader onboarding program Make sound scoping decisions about what belongs in Guided Setup versus Customer Solutions Engineering, Product, or post-onboarding work Ensure complex engagements maintain the same high bar for customer experience, documentation, and technical quality as standard setups Raise the bar for the team Act as a technical mentor and coach for Cloud Onboarding Architect I/IIs, helping them develop their troubleshooting, platform expertise, and customer-facing skills Serve as a thought partner for COAs working through technically challenging or ambiguous customer situations Own and continuously improve the Guided Setup checklist, playbooks, kickoff materials, troubleshooting guidance, and internal documentation Identify patterns across customer engagements and turn those patterns into repeatable processes, tooling, documentation, or product feedback Identify recurring setup blockers and drive them toward resolution, whether the underlying fix is a documentation update, process change, enablement opportunity, or product improvement Help establish and maintain consistent standards for setup quality across the team Represent setup cross-functionally Be the primary point of contact into Engineering, Product & Design for setup-related bugs, feature requests, and onboarding UX feedback Work with Customer Solutions Engineering on the setup/support boundary and on customers struggling to reach utilization post-onboarding Collaborate with Training on on-demand content for the setup steps that create the most friction for new customers Contribute setup expertise to Engineering team (EPD/Transport) conversations on PrivateLink and network architecture Bring the voice of enterprise customers into internal discussions about product usability, administration, security, and onboarding Use data, customer feedback, and experience from individual engagements to identify opportunities to improve setup time and activation readiness Skills We’re Looking For Deep, hands-on experience with dbt (2-3 years minimum) as an account admin and data practitioner, at a level where you're a trusted authority on the platform Prior experience as a Cloud Onboarding Architect / Implementation Consultant (or directly equivalent role) — this is not an entry point into the setup team Administrator-level fluency with data warehouses (Snowflake / Databricks / BigQuery / Redshift), repositories (GitHub / GitLab / Azure DevOps), and identity providers (Okta / Entra ID / Google), including SSO, SAML, and OAuth Track record of mentoring or coaching less experienced teammates on technical and soft skills Comfort owning ambiguous, cross-functional problems without a clear playbook — and building the playbook yourself Strong written and verbal communication; able to represent the setup team's perspective to Engineering, Product, and customer executives alike Ability to tailor consistent white glove setup experiences based on an account’s size and strategic importance Strong customer judgment and the ability to balance technical correctness with customer timelines and business priorities Bonus Skills Experience with PrivateLink or other secure connectivity patterns Experience contributing to internal enablement content or documentation Comfort being the technical bridge in between, pre-sales, post-sales, Engineering, and Product Familiarity with Rocketlane or similar project/time-tracking tools used for onboarding delivery dbt Architect certified #LI-Remote The compensation range displayed on this job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire compensation for the target position and level, and may include sales incentives or target bonuses depending on the role. We are unable to provide sponsorship for work visas of any kind at the time of hire, or at any point during employment. This includes, but is not limited to: F1-OPT, F1-CPT, H-1B, TN, J-1, etc Your Role: The Senior Manager, Technical Excellence & Escalations leads the two teams that sit between Technical Support and the rest of the business: the global Technical Excellence team, staffed by our Technical Leads, and the global Escalations Engineering team. Both produce Tenable's earliest and clearest signal about product supportability and customer risk. Both have historically produced that signal faster than the organization could act on it. This role exists to close that gap. This is not a queue-management job. The Senior Manager is accountable for two outcomes: turning Technical Lead expertise and escalation findings into tracked change with Product and Engineering, and running one escalations practice that behaves identically in AMER, EMEA, and APJ. The role sits within Operations & Scale and works in close partnership with the Sr. Director, who sets overall strategy and carries the executive narrative. The Senior Manager owns the operating model, the day-to-day practice, and the working-level relationships with Product and Engineering that make change actually happen. They lead senior individual contributors who are already force multipliers — which makes this a job about influence and orchestration, not direction. Who You Are: An orchestrator, not a bottleneck. You create the conditions for senior experts to influence the organization instead of routing their work through yourself. Technically credible. You have the depth to earn respect from Principal-level engineers and to challenge an Engineering assessment that doesn't hold up. A clear communicator under pressure. You can hold a room containing both a frustrated customer and an Engineering lead, and translate technical detail into business consequence. A systems thinker. You are drawn to the pattern behind the escalation. You would rather fix the class of problem than win the individual case. Comfortable influencing without authority. Much of what this role must accomplish depends on teams you don't own. Effective remotely. You build trust and hold a team together without relying on being in the room, and you communicate in writing well enough that distance isn't a handicap. A developer of senior talent. You are energized by growing people who are already very good, and you give direct feedback. Your Opportunity: Technical Excellence Team Run the operating model and product coverage plan for the global Technical Excellence team — every strategic product has clear lead ownership, defined authority, and no coverage gaps across theaters. Set the team's working agenda: what leads work on, what they own, and how their time splits between reactive escalation support and proactive supportability work. Turn Technical Lead findings — defect patterns, supportability gaps, documentation failures, recurring friction — into one prioritized, evidence-backed agenda, not a stream of individual product complaints. Position Technical Leads as credible partners in Product and Engineering forums, with the data, framing, and support they need to influence rather than escalate. Contribute to the Technical Lead career path with the Education & Enablement Manager, and apply it consistently — progression from Technical Lead through Senior and Principal, and the competencies that separate each grade. Global Escalations Practice Own the global escalations practice day to day: process design, entry and exit criteria, severity definitions, roles, communication standards, and adherence. Drive it to a single global standard. One model, consistently applied and measured across all theaters, with regional variance only where legally or operationally required. Operate and enforce the working agreement with Product Engineering — SLA adherence for escalated defects, prioritization criteria, update cadence, and follow-through on resolution commitments. Escalate structural breakdowns to the Sr. Director. Own the quality of post-escalation output. Every RCA and post-incident report produces a tracked action, not a filed document. Build the prevention agenda: analyze root cause patterns and drive the upstream product, process, tooling, or enablement changes that reduce escalation volume and re-escalation rate. Act as the Technical Support point of contact for high-severity customer situations — providing assurance and coordination without displacing the assigned Escalations Engineer. Driving Change Across the Organization Represent Technical Support in roadmap, release readiness, and quality forums at the Product Management and Engineering Manager level, making the supportability and escalation-risk case with data. Run the working-level feedback loop into Product and Engineering: defined cadence, shared prioritization, visible tracking from support signal to shipped change. Assemble the evidence behind supportability investment — ticket volume, escalation cost, re-escalation overhead — and partner with the Sr. Director to convert it into a business case that earns engineering capacity. Partner with Engineering on release quality gates so Technical Support has meaningful input before GA, not remediation duty after it. Represent both teams in cross-functional work with Customer Success, Sales Engineering, and Professional Services where escalation or account risk is in scope. Produce the regular supportability and escalation readout for the Sr. Director: narrative, trend, and recommendation — not raw metrics. Present directly to senior leadership as requested. Work with the Operations Manager to instrument escalation and Technical Lead activity in TSO reporting, so the teams' signal is visible without manual pulls. Leadership & People Development Lead and develop a senior, highly autonomous, globally distributed team, including the Principal Technical Lead as a technical partner and strategic extension of the function. Operate as a player-coach: hold the operating cadence and coach the team, and step personally into a live critical escalation or a difficult Engineering conversation when it matters. Build succession depth in both teams and eliminate single-person dependency on strategic products and accounts. Partner with the Education & Enablement Manager — a peer in the same function — to close skill gaps in both populations and feed field learnings into broader Technical Support enablement and certification. Set goals, performance expectations, and measurement for both teams in line with global Technical Support objectives. Drive AI adoption within Technical Lead and Escalations workflows under the Support AI governance framework, acting as the proving ground for capability the wider TSO will inherit. What You'll Need: 8+ years in Technical Support, Escalation Management, or customer-facing engineering in enterprise software, with recent focus on security or vulnerability management. 3+ years managing technical teams — ideally senior individual contributors, technical leads, or escalation engineers. Experience managing remote and globally distributed teams strongly preferred. Hands-on experience running an escalation practice or program, including process design and cross-functional coordination. Demonstrated ability to influence product and engineering priorities using support and escalation data. Experience operating within Support–Engineering agreements, including SLA adherence for defect resolution. Comfort with support metrics and the analysis behind them — escalation volume, re-escalation rate, time-to-resolution, ticket volume reduction — and the ability to build the evidence case for investment. Strong understanding of Tenable's product portfolio and security best practices, or the demonstrated ability to reach it quickly. Technical foundation across networking, authentication, operating systems, and cloud (AWS/Azure/GCP) sufficient to lead technical discussions credibly. Excellent written and verbal communication; comfortable with senior stakeholders and with customers at any level. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience. Able to work in a hybrid/on-site capacity at our office in Columbia MD or Boston MA. Available to provide leadership coverage for critical escalations outside standard business hours as needed, and to work across AMER, EMEA, and APJ time zones to support globally distributed teams. Occasional travel as required for team, customer, and cross-functional engagements. Flexibility to perform other duties as deemed necessary by management. And Ideally: Cybersecurity or adjacent enterprise security SaaS experience. Prior time as a Technical Lead, Principal Engineer, or Escalations Engineer — credibility earned in the seat. Product Management or program management exposure. Familiarity with AI-assisted support workflows and their governance. Experience supporting FedRAMP or other regulated environments. #LI-Hybrid #LI-MM1 This is the base pay range for this position. Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including the candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, location and experience, and may fall outside of the range shown. Employees are also eligible for variable compensation in addition to base pay (commission for sales roles, bonus for non-sales roles), depending on company and individual performance. Tenable also offers a variety of comprehensive and competitive benefits which include: medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance; 401(k) retirement savings with company match; an employee stock purchase plan; an employee referral program; flexible spending accounts; an Employee Assistance Program (EAP); education assistance; parental leave; paid time off (PTO); company-paid holidays; health and wellness events; and community programs.
