Capture recurring themes, patterns, and gaps from the field and feed them back into Product and Engineering roadmaps as the technical Voice of the Customer.

You bring strong hands‑on skills with JavaScript/TypeScript and modern web frameworks, ideally including Next.js, and are comfortable reviewing and discussing application code with engineering teams.
You understand web performance, caching, networking, and security fundamentals, ideally AI/LLM powered applications and Agentic workflows and can translate them into practical guidance for enterprise architectures.
You are equally comfortable discussing business outcomes with executives and implementation details with developers, switching context quickly while maintaining credibility.
You have a track record of owning complex technical projects, juggling multiple stakeholders, and delivering on time in fast‑moving environments.
You thrive in collaborative field teams, enjoy mentoring others, and value clear, concise communication and documentation.
You are familiar with cloud platforms (such as AWS, Azure, or GCP) and how SaaS and edge platforms integrate into broader enterprise architectures.
You have empathy for developers and a passion for great developer experience, and you enjoy helping teams build accurate mental models of how platforms work.
Bonus if you have experience of building AI powered applications, or Agentic workloads, ideally leveraging tooling such as the AI SDK.
Bonus if you
Have production experience deploying and operating Next.js or other modern frontend frameworks on Vercel or similar platforms.
Have worked with organisations standardising on composable architectures (headless CMS, commerce, search, analytics, and identity providers).
Hold cloud or architecture certifications (for example, Cloud Solutions Architect certifications) or have led large‑scale migrations to cloud‑native platforms.

Figma’s platform helps teams bring ideas to life—whether you're brainstorming, creating a prototype, translating designs into code, or iterating with AI. From idea to product, Figma empowers teams to streamline workflows, move faster, and work together in real time from anywhere in the world. If you're excited to shape the future of design and collaboration, join us!
The Build Systems team within Figma’s Developer Experience organization owns Figma’s build and CI infrastructure, enabling engineers to ship changes to production quickly and safely. We build and operate core platforms across our polyglot monorepo, including build systems, artifact repositories, merge queues, test frameworks, and CI pipelines.
We’re looking for an experienced technical leader to help shape these platforms, uplevel the team, and deliver high-impact platforms that accelerate engineering velocity. The ideal candidate has deep experience with large monolithic codebases, builds durable and scalable systems, and is motivated by solving high-leverage problems that amplify productivity across the engineering organization.
This is a full time role that can be held from one of our US hubs or remotely in the United States.
What you'll do at Figma:
Drive technical roadmap and strategy for the Build Systems team
Partner with cross-functional teams and leadership to identify developer pain points and design elegant, scalable solutions
Lead complex, multi-quarter initiatives reducing build/test times and improving CI reliability, all while balancing technical excellence with pragmatic delivery
Design, build, and maintain modern developer tools including scalable build systems, distributed CI platforms, and test frameworks that serve thousands of engineers
Architect and implement large-scale infrastructure on AWS that powers our entire build pipeline to ensure reliability, performance, and cost-efficiency
Mentor and uplevel the team through technical guidance, code reviews, and architectural leadership, leading by example and actively investing in your teammates’ growth
Collaborate with product engineers (your customers), infrastructure teams, and executive stakeholders, and communicate technical decisions clearly to audiences ranging from individual contributors to senior leadership
Keep up to date with industry trends and best practices in build systems, CI, and developer tooling, and incorporate applicable technologies into our roadmap
We’d love to hear from you if you have:
5+ years of engineering experience, including 4+ years on Infrastructure, Platform, or Developer Experience teams
Deep expertise in build systems (e.g., Bazel, Buck, Pants, Gradle) and operating large-scale monorepos
Experience optimizing CI/CD, building developer tooling at scale, and designing reliable, high-performance distributed systems
Hands-on experience with AWS, CI platforms (e.g., Buildkite), Infrastructure as Code, and strong coding skills in languages such as Go, TypeScript, Python, or Ruby
Proven technical leadership, with a track record of setting technical direction, driving cross-team initiatives, and communicating effectively across a wide range of stakeholders
While it’s not required, it’s an added plus if you also have:
Experience migrating large codebases to modern build systems (especially Bazel)
Experience building test frameworks and improving test infrastructure
Have excellent problem-solving skills, using a systematic and thorough approach grounded in first principles, with a bias for action and a strong focus on impact
You’re willing to work on grungy problems when they have a high impact on the business or the health of our platform
Care deeply about the quality of the software and systems you build, with an artisan mentality and a constant drive to improve your craft, while striking the right balance between idealism and pragmatism
Finally, Figma is a close-knit company with a strong culture that promotes inclusivity and collaboration, taking ambitious goals and having fun doing so. You deeply value these traits and see yourself actively contributing to it
At Figma, one of our values is Grow as you go. We believe in hiring smart, curious people who are excited to learn and develop their skills. ABOUT US:
AI NEEDS A NEW INFRASTRUCTURE LAYER. WE'RE BUILDING IT AT MODAL.
Every era of computing brought new workloads that previous infrastructure couldn't support: mainframes, databases, and the cloud. Each time, the company that rebuilt the layer underneath defined the decade. AI is no different, except it touches everything instead of one slice, and the window to build the layer underneath it is open right now.
Our customers include category-defining companies like Ramp https://modal.com/blog/how-ramp-built-a-full-context-background-coding-agent-on-modal, Cognition, DoorDash, and Suno. They rely on Modal for instant GPU access, sub-second container starts, and native storage, so it's simple to serve low-latency inference, fine-tune models, and access production-ready sandboxes at scale.
We've passed $1B in annualized run rate, up 15x from a year ago. In October 2026 we raised a $750M Series D led by Accel at a $15.75B valuation.
Our team includes creators of popular open-source projects (e.g.,Seaborn https://github.com/mwaskom/seaborn,Luigi https://github.com/spotify/luigi), academic researchers, international olympiad medalists, and experienced engineering and product leaders with decades of experience.
THE ROLE:
We're looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a team of highly experienced engineers building the infrastructure that powers Modal's serverless GPU platform. This is a hands-on leadership role — expect to split your time between technical contribution and people management depending on what the team needs. You'll set direction, remove blockers, and build a strong engineering culture as your team tackles hard problems in distributed computing, large-scale data handling, and performance optimization.
WHO YOU ARE:
You're an experienced engineering leader who stays close to the work and builds alongside your team when it counts. You earn trust through technical depth, not title. You communicate clearly, help strong engineers move fast without cutting corners, and stay calm and pragmatic under pressure. You care as much about how your team gets to an answer as the answer itself.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Team
- Recruit, hire, and grow a high-performing team of cloud platform engineers; run regular 1:1s focused on coaching, feedback, and career growth.
- Set clear performance expectations, hold a high bar, and build an environment where engineers do their best work.
- Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Technical Direction
- Drive day-to-day technical decisions through design reviews, code reviews, and architectural discussions.
- Translate the infrastructure roadmap into clear team priorities and milestones, and hold execution against them.
- Establish standards for reliability, performance, and operational excellence; ensure the team owns projects end-to-end, from spec through production.
- Push for good judgment on tooling and architecture, with a bias against unnecessary complexity.
Cross-Functional & Incident Leadership
- Partner with product and engineering to align infrastructure work with business priorities; represent your team's progress, capacity, and tradeoffs clearly to leadership.
- Serve as the escalation point for major incidents; drive resolution with urgency and ensure the team learns systematically, feeding those learnings back into infrastructure improvements.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 10+ years of industry experience, including 3+ years in a leadership role
- Track record building high-performance distributed systems at scale
- Strong background in cloud infrastructure
- Deep knowledge of low-level OS foundations (Linux kernel, file systems, containers, etc.)
- Proficiency in a systems-level language (Rust, C, C++, or Java)
