Staff Software Engineer, Platform & Infrastructure

Location: San Francisco, California Workplace: Hybrid ABOUT SENTRY Software runs the world and the pace is faster than ever. Sentry helps developers fix errors and performance issues before users notice, so teams can spend less time firefighting and more time building. Trusted by 200,000+ organizations, Sentry is today’s application monitoring standard and our team is building its AI-native future. ABOUT THE ROLE Sentry helps developers identify and resolve issues in their applications. Behind our products is a complex foundation of distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and services that must perform reliably at scale. Our Platform and Infrastructure Engineering teams build and operate the systems that power Sentry. From cloud infrastructure, distributed storage, and real-time event processing to service reliability, scalability, and developer productivity, these teams provide the technical foundation that enables our products and engineering organization to grow. We're looking for Staff Software Engineers to tackle some of Sentry's most challenging infrastructure and distributed systems problems. Depending on your experience and interests, you might work on scaling our real-time event processing systems, improving the reliability and efficiency of our cloud infrastructure, or designing and building foundational services that support our products. In this role, you'll have the autonomy to identify important technical problems, lead solutions from design through production, and influence engineering decisions beyond your immediate team. We're looking for engineers who enjoy solving difficult problems, remain hands-on with the systems they build, and take pride in delivering meaningful technical impact. IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL - Design, build, and operate reliable, scalable distributed systems that support Sentry's products and engineering teams. - Own technically complex projects from identifying problems and defining solutions through implementation, deployment, and production operations. - Solve challenging engineering problems involving system architecture, performance, scalability, reliability, and operational efficiency. - Make thoughtful architectural decisions, evaluating tradeoffs between performance, complexity, maintainability, and long-term scalability. - Proactively identify technical challenges and opportunities for improvement, including problems without clearly defined requirements or established solutions. - Stay hands-on with engineering, contributing production-quality code, reviewing designs, and helping resolve complex technical issues. - Collaborate with engineers and technical leaders across teams to influence technical direction, establish engineering standards, and drive improvements. - Share technical knowledge, mentor other engineers, and help strengthen engineering practices across the organization. YOU'LL LOVE THIS JOB IF YOU - Enjoy solving difficult technical problems where the solution isn't immediately obvious. - Like designing and building systems that operate reliably at scale. - Thrive on taking ownership of complex engineering challenges, from initial design through production. - Balance hands-on engineering with technical leadership and enjoy influencing decisions without formal authority. - Think critically about architectural tradeoffs and favor pragmatic, maintainable solutions over unnecessary complexity. - Take initiative in identifying important problems rather than waiting for projects to be assigned. - Enjoy collaborating with talented engineers, sharing knowledge, and raising the bar for engineering quality. - Find satisfaction in shipping meaningful improvements and seeing the impact of your work in production. QUALIFICATIONS - 8+ years of software engineering experience, with a strong background in designing, building, and operating distributed systems or infrastructure. - Strong software engineering fundamentals and proficiency in at least one programming language, such as Python, Go, Java, or a comparable language. - Experience designing and implementing technically complex systems, with a track record of delivering meaningful engineering outcomes. - Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure and services, such as AWS, GCP, or Azure. - Demonstrated ability to independently own complex technical projects, navigate ambiguity, and drive solutions from design through production. - Deep technical experience in one or more of the following areas: - Cloud Infrastructure: Kubernetes, container orchestration, Terraform, infrastructure as code, networking, or service discovery. - Distributed Systems: Distributed architectures, fault tolerance, consistency, replication, or high-availability systems. - Data Infrastructure: Kafka, real-time streaming, distributed storage, OLAP/OLTP databases, or large-scale data processing. - Infrastructure Reliability: Observability, performance optimization, capacity planning, incident response, or production operations. - Developer Infrastructure: CI/CD systems, build and deployment infrastructure, developer environments, or internal developer platforms. - Strong architectural judgment, with the ability to evaluate technical tradeoffs and design systems for reliability, performance, and long-term maintainability. - Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly, collaborate effectively, and influence technical decisions across engineering teams. - Experience improving engineering practices, sharing technical knowledge, or helping other engineers grow. We recognize that strong engineers come from different backgrounds. You don't need experience in every technology or domain listed above. We're interested in candidates who bring meaningful technical depth, strong engineering judgment, and a track record of solving challenging problems. The base salary range that Sentry reasonably expects to pay for this position is $240,000 to $400,000, plus an annual performance bonus of up to 15% of base salary. A successful candidate’s actual base salary (or hourly wage) amount will be determined by a variety of relevant factors including, without limitation, the candidate’s work location, education, work and other relevant experience, skills, and job-related knowledge. A successful candidate will be eligible to participate in Sentry’s employee benefit plans/programs applicable to the candidate’s position (including incentive compensation, equity grants, paid time off, and group health insurance coverage). See Sentry Benefits https://sentry.io/careers/ for more details about the Company’s benefit plans/programs. EQUAL OPPORTUNITY AT SENTRY Sentry is committed to providing equal employment opportunities to its employees and candidates for employment regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, gender identity, veteran status, or other legally-protected characteristic. This commitment includes the provision of reasonable accommodations to employees and candidates for employment with physical or mental disabilities who require such accommodations in order to (a) perform the essential functions of their jobs, or (b) seek employment with Sentry. We strive to build a diverse team, with an inclusive culture where every teammate can thrive. Senior Manager, Support Engineering

ABOUT THE ROLE At Sentry, Support is an engineering discipline. Our customers are developers, and they expect answers from people who can read their stack trace, open the SDK source, and tell them what's actually wrong. We're hiring a Senior Manager to lead Support Engineering. You'll run the team that handles everything from a single developer's SDK question to a production incident at one of our largest enterprise customers. You'll also help drive how we use AI in support: what systems are used, how they best help customers, enable the teams, and how we know the answers they give are right and forward looking. This is a hands-on leadership role. You'll manage people, set the support strategy, get face to face time with customers, while also getting into tickets when it matters. IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL Lead and grow the team - Manage and coach a team of Technical Support Engineers - Set clear expectations for technical depth, response quality, and ownership, and give direct feedback - Design a coverage model that works across time zones, including on-call and escalation paths - Build career paths for Support Engineers who want to go deeper technically, move into management, or move into different teams and practices Own support outcomes - Own and report the team's core metrics: CX, time to resolution, escalation rate, and more - Use support conversations as a signal: find the top drivers of tickets and get them fixed in the product, the docs, internal operations, or the SDKs, not just answered faster Run AI-assisted support - Own the roadmap for our support agents: which request types they handle, what context they need, and when they hand off to a person - Set the quality bar for agent answers and the process for catching incomplete ones - Decide where automation is worth building and where it isn't, based on data Handle escalations and partner across Sentry - Run the escalation process with Engineering: make sure bugs reach the right team with a reproduction and clear impact, and that customers hear back - Be the support lead on high-stakes enterprise issues, working with Customer Success, Solutions Engineering, and Sales - Bring a clear picture of customer pain to Product and Engineering, backed by numbers YOU'LL LOVE THIS JOB IF YOU - Think great support is an engineering problem, not a staffing problem - Want to build the team and the systems at the same time - Can debug a tricky SDK issue yourself and also explain to a VP why their incident took four hours - Would rather fix the cause of 200 tickets than answer them faster - Have strong opinions on where AI helps in support and where it makes things worse, and be willing to discuss this at length. QUALIFICATIONS - 8+ years in technical support, support engineering, or software engineering at a SaaS or developer tools company - 3+ years managing technical support engineers, including hiring and growing a team - Technically credible with senior engineers: comfortable reading code in at least a few of Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, or Ruby, and debugging across frontend, backend, and infrastructure - Solid understanding of distributed systems, APIs, and how observability tools (errors, tracing, logs) fit into them - Hands-on experience running AI or automation in a support org, and a clear view of its failure modes - Track record of using support data to drive product and process changes - Clear, direct written communication with customers, executives, and engineers Bonus - Experience at a developer tools or observability company - Former software engineer - Managed a team spread across multiple time zones - Open source contributor or maintainer The base salary range (or hourly wage range, if applicable) that Sentry reasonably expects to pay for this position is $160,000 to $180,000. A successful candidate’s actual base salary (or hourly wage) amount will be determined by a variety of relevant factors including, without limitation, the candidate’s work location, education, work and other relevant experience, skills, and job-related knowledge. Senior Software Engineer, Foundational Storage

Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada Workplace: Hybrid ABOUT SENTRY Software runs the world and the pace is faster than ever. Sentry helps developers fix errors and performance issues before users notice, so teams can spend less time firefighting and more time building. Trusted by 200,000+ organizations, Sentry is today’s application monitoring standard and our team is building its AI-native future. ABOUT THE ROLE Sentry’s Foundational Storage team builds and supports the stateful storage systems that all our products rely on: object storage, relational databases, key-value stores, and caches. We help Sentry engineers store and access data consistently, durably, securely, and efficiently as our products and traffic grow. We develop storage services like our open-source Objectstore https://github.com/getsentry/objectstore and build libraries and APIs that make existing storage systems easier to use. In our own services, we design storage protocols that keep data consistent across backends, even through concurrent updates and failures. Our abstractions let other engineering teams use storage without worrying about which cluster or instance holds their data. As a Senior Software Engineer on the team, you’ll work on both the systems and the code that makes them easy to use. You’ll tackle questions of data consistency, availability, performance, and cost-efficiency, and work with product teams to turn their needs into practical solutions. The goal is simple: make the right way to store data the easy and obvious way. IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL - Design and operate storage systems used across Sentry, including their configuration and performance tuning. - Create APIs and abstractions that make storage easy for product teams to use, with best practices for correctness, security, and scale built in. - Solve storage challenges at scale, including consistency under concurrent access, sharding and rebalancing, and routing reads and writes across storage backends as workloads grow. - Work with product engineers to choose storage approaches, plan safe migrations, and help teams adopt the tools you build. - Plan and build with other Platform and Infrastructure teams, including analytical storage and streaming, to deliver a complete, fault-tolerant platform for product teams. Align roadmaps and standards, and design for failures and recovery. - Improve storage performance and cost efficiency by making better use of backends and resources, while keeping the platform simple for product teams. - Write code primarily in Rust and Python, with clear user-facing documentation. Develop advanced testing scenarios, such as production-scale chaos tests covering backend and infrastructure outages. - Own latency and availability SLOs for your services, improve monitoring and incident response, and participate in the team’s on-call rotation. YOU’LL LOVE THIS JOB IF YOU - Enjoy digging into the internals of storage systems and understanding how they behave when traffic grows, requests race, or a dependency has a bad day. - Care about a useful, easy-to-use API as much as what happens behind it. - Like working with other engineers to understand their needs and make their day-to-day work easier. - Want to follow your work from design and code through rollout and production for millions of developers. - Want open-source contributions to be at the center of your day job. QUALIFICATIONS - 5+ years of software engineering experience building and operating distributed, stateful systems in production. - Hands-on experience with object storage, relational databases, and caching systems at production scale. Experience with key-value or wide-column stores is a plus. - An understanding of distributed systems fundamentals, including consistency, concurrency, and what happens when requests fail or need to be retried. - Proficiency in a systems language such as Go, C++, Java, or Rust, and comfort working in Python. We primarily use Rust and Python, and welcome engineers who are new to Rust. - Experience running services on Kubernetes in a cloud environment, including observability, SLOs, and incident response. Familiarity with Terraform is a plus. - Good written and spoken English, especially in explaining technical choices and writing documentation. - Nice to have: experience building shared libraries or internal APIs, migrating data between systems, or improving system performance and cost.   The base salary range (or hourly wage range, if applicable) that Sentry reasonably expects to pay for this position is $200,000 to $420,000 CAD. A successful candidate’s actual base salary (or hourly wage) amount will be determined by a variety of relevant factors including, without limitation, the candidate’s work location, education, work and other relevant experience, skills, and job-related knowledge. Give teams time to respond before delivery is affected. - Reduce friction. Build practices which help teams get work done. - Respect ownership. Support informed decisions and help accountable owners resolve open questions. - Keep partners informed. Communicate changes to scope, timing, and readiness before they affect others. The base salary range Sentry reasonably expects to pay for this position is $150,000 to $240,000 USD. Staff Software Engineer, AI Developer Tooling

ABOUT THE ROLE You’ll own AI-assisted coding within Sentry’s Platform Engineering organization, building the systems and workflows AI coding agents need to contribute reliably to our codebase. Your work will span engineering teams, with Developer Infrastructure as your home base. Your first focus will be making internal developer systems accessible to agents. Many workflows currently depend on human interaction through a UI. You’ll identify the most valuable gaps, expose those capabilities through APIs, and connect tools such as Claude Code to complete development workflows. From there, you’ll improve the quality of AI-generated pull requests and automate recurring engineering work, including dependency upgrades, minor bug fixes, and maintenance. You’ll build the context and execution environment agents need: relevant repository information, tools and permissions, state management, tests, logs, recovery mechanisms, and evaluations. You’ll partner with engineers across Sentry to understand where agents succeed, where they fail, and which changes improve the development process. This role combines technical direction with hands-on implementation, from choosing the problems to solve through building, measuring, and improving the solutions. This role is based in San Francisco, with three days per week in the office to work closely with Platform teams and engineering leadership. WHAT YOU’LL DO - Set priorities for AI-assisted development at Sentry, using engineer feedback and workflow data to identify where agents would provide the most value. - Make internal developer systems accessible through APIs and build integrations enabling agents to complete workflows across those systems. - Build context systems and agent execution tooling, including tool access, permissions, checkpoints, retries, and logging. - Develop automated checks, evaluations, and feedback loops to improve the correctness, maintainability, and review readiness of AI-generated pull requests. - Automate recurring work such as security dependency upgrades, minor bug fixes, and routine maintenance. - Improve supporting developer workflows, including issue triage and CI/CD, where they limit agent effectiveness or create repetitive work for engineers. - Lead changes across engineering teams, build agreement on priorities, and measure whether the tools reduce manual work and improve delivery. HOW YOU WORK - You’ve used AI coding agents on real development work and have informed views on their strengths, limitations, and failure modes. - You bring structure to ambiguous problems, choose a practical starting point, and follow through on delivery. - You move comfortably between infrastructure, backend systems, and developer tooling. - You know when to build, integrate an existing tool, involve another team, or stop work with limited value. - You combine data with direct feedback from engineers to assess whether a solution improves their work. - You explain technical tradeoffs clearly and build alignment across teams and senior leadership.
