About the role
We’re looking for a highly autonomous Senior Data & ML Engineer who wants to be the true owner of how data works for the teams they support, delivering solutions completely end-to-end, from initial scoping and design through to delivery, implementation, and full business adoption.
Operating with full autonomy, you will work directly with both commercial stakeholders (Product, Finance, Operations, Compliance, and Marketing) and engineering teams. You will translate complex needs into well-defined and well-modelled data products, using scalable processes and pipelines, ensuring those solutions are trusted, documented, and actively used to drive business value.
Beyond foundational data architecture, you will support and lead machine learning engineering efforts. Apply data modelling practices (e.g., dimensional modelling, medallion architecture) to maintain data consistency and reusability.
Implement data quality checks, monitoring, and alerting.
Optimise pipeline performance and cost-efficiency.
Lead and actively contribute to engineering standards and process improvements across the data team.
Ownership and Stakeholder Management
Act as the primary data partner for specific business areas, understanding their processes, goals, and pain points.
Deliver end-to-end solutions, managing scoping, discovery, design, delivery, user adoption, and iteration.
Gather and translate business requirements into technical solutions.
Communicate with engineering peers and commercial stakeholders to define priorities and manage trade-offs.
Identify opportunities where data or machine learning can improve decisions, efficiency, or customer outcomes.
Enablement and Self-Service
Build and maintain datasets that power reporting and dashboards in Preset.
Onboard and support users on Preset to promote data self-sufficiency.
Promote data practices, including data definitions, documentation, and governance.
What You’ll Need to Be Successful
5+ years of experience as a Data/ML Engineer, with a track record of independently owning data/ML solutions from scoping to adoption.
Proficiency in Python, SQL, and PySpark/Spark.
Experience with modern data platforms, such as Databricks (Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, MLflow, workflows).
Stakeholder management skills, with the ability to navigate commercial and engineering discussions, manage expectations, and drive cross-functional decisions.
Data modelling skills and experience designing data marts for analytics and reporting.
Experience building production pipelines with orchestration, testing, monitoring, and version control.
Experience with BI tools (e.g., Preset, Tableau, Metabase, Power BI) and data usability principles.
Demonstrated accountability for project outcomes and commercial impact.
Clear, structured communication in English.
Nice to Have
Experience in ML Engineering, including deploying machine learning models to production, maintaining MLOps pipelines, and integrating models into data platforms.
Experience in fintech, financial services, or payments, particularly regarding transaction, reconciliation, settlement, or regulatory reporting data.
Experience with sensitive or regulated data and an understanding of data privacy and governance (e.g., GDPR).
Experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform/Tofu), cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), and data engineering CI/CD.
Experience mentoring engineers or analysts.
Interest in applying AI tools to improve data engineering productivity and quality.

Minimum years of experience:

Location-based hybrid policy:
Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices.
Visa sponsorship:
We do sponsor visas! However, we aren't able to successfully sponsor visas for every role and every candidate. But if we make you an offer, we will make every reasonable effort to get you a visa, and we retain an immigration lawyer to help with this.
We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification.
Not all strong candidates will meet every single qualification as listed. Research shows that people who identify as being from underrepresented groups are more prone to experiencing imposter syndrome and doubting the strength of their candidacy, so we urge you not to exclude yourself prematurely and to submit an application if you're interested in this work. We think AI systems like the ones we're building have enormous social and ethical implications. We think this makes representation even more important, and we strive to include a range of diverse perspectives on our team.

In some cases, we may partner with vetted recruiting agencies who will identify themselves as working on behalf of Anthropic. Be cautious of emails from other domains. directly for confirmed position openings.
How we're different
We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. Overview
We are hiring a Sr Software Engineer in Test specializing in ML/AI quality, including automation for model evaluation, LLM-assisted test generation, and validation of AI-powered workflows. The role includes guiding quality strategy and developing automation frameworks. You will also manage implementation for complex, cross-functional, machine learning-powered products and services. This role involves more than test development. You will lead quality initiatives from start to finish, ensuring teams stay synchronized, dependencies are managed, and releases are delivered confidently. You will work closely with ML, engineering, product, and infrastructure teams. You will shape how quality is built, monitored, and expanded while leading embedded QE efforts within projects.
What you’ll do
Define and complete quality strategies, test plans, and automation coverage for ML-powered services and platform components.
Use LLMs and other AI-assisted techniques to generate, expand, and maintain high-value test cases for ML-powered workflows.
Design scenario-based test suites for AI features, including adversarial prompts, edge cases, ambiguous inputs, and underrepresented user scenarios.
Lead QE efforts for multi-functional projects, driving risk assessment, dependency management, and release readiness.
Design, develop, and maintain scalable automation frameworks for backend services, APIs, and ML inference systems using Python and/or Java.
Build automated validation for ML and LLM outputs, including ranking behavior, score distributions, prompt/response quality, hallucination indicators, and probabilistic model evaluation.
Debug test failures, service anomalies, model inconsistencies, and AI behavior regressions to identify root causes and drive resolution.
Perform functional, integration, regression, API, end-to-end, performance, and reliability testing for distributed systems.
Improve automation reliability, reduce flakiness, and optimize execution efficiency.
Partner with engineering and ML teams to integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines and release workflows.
Collaborate across teams to establish scalable quality standards, tooling, and guidelines.
Required qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent
5+ years of experience as an SDET or QE engineer focused on backend and distributed systems.
Experience using LLMs to generate, transform, and prioritize test cases for AI-powered experiences.
Experience with AI evaluation tooling, prompt evaluation frameworks, model monitoring, or human-in-the-loop review workflows.
Strong experience testing RESTful APIs, microservices, and distributed architectures.
Proficiency in Python, Java, JS or similar languages for automation development.
Hands-on experience with automation frameworks such as pytest, JUnit, Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, or Appium.
Experience with CI/CD systems and test pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, etc.).
Experience with cloud and container technologies (AWS, GCP, Kubernetes, Docker).
Familiarity with databases, monitoring, and observability tools.
Strong understanding of SDLC, Agile methodologies, and release processes.
Excellent problem-solving, debugging, and communication skills.
Preferred qualifications
Experience validating ML outputs using statistical analysis or scenario-based testing approaches.
Familiarity with ML infrastructure, data pipelines, or model-serving platforms (Seldon, KServe, Ray Serve, etc.).
Prior work in content moderation ML, security, fraud detection, or adversarial ML.
Experience testing high-scale, low-latency online services.
Experience with Databricks or similar ML platform tooling.
Familiarity with Node.js, React, or modern frontend technologies.
Experience testing mobile, console, or other non-PC platforms.
What sets you apart
Strong combination of automation engineering and delivery ownership.
Ability to drive quality across complex cross-functional initiatives.
Practical understanding of how to test non-deterministic AI systems and separate model variance from quality regressions.
Proven risk management and dependency coordination skills.
Ability to influence engineering teams and promote quality guidelines.
Passion for scalable, reliable, and maintainable automation systems.

An overview of this role
As an Ecosystem Operations Specialist, you'll help turn GitLab's Ecosystem go-to-market strategy into reliable day-to-day execution. You'll be a trusted operational resource and first point of contact for sellers, Ecosystem Sales Managers, partners, and cross-functional teams, supporting partner business from account setup and deal registration through quoting, ordering, and post-sales operational support. You'll resolve standard issues, improve processes and data quality, and route commercial, policy, finance, legal, and systems decisions to the right owners so Ecosystem Sales Managers can focus on partner strategy, pipeline creation, and deal progression.
What you'll do
Execute partner-sourced and partner-influenced workflows, including intake, account and opportunity setup or linking, deal registrations, cloud co-sell referrals, validation, routing, approval follow-up, and standard issue resolution.
Process partner quote requests against documented pricing and program requirements, receive purchase orders, and prepare opportunities for closure with Sales, Deal Desk, Billing, and Finance. Support marketplace and two-tier transactions involving distributors, resellers, and cloud providers.
Guide partners, distributors, sellers, and Ecosystem Sales Managers through operational questions, including attribution, program compliance, and post-sales support. Identify and route exceptions requiring commercial, policy, contractual, pricing, payment, or systems decisions to the appropriate owner.
Execute and improve partner program workflows, including onboarding, not-for-resale licensing, certifications, rebates, Professional Services Partner eligibility, Letters of Authorization, and channel price files. Collaborate with Programs and policy owners on required notifications, documentation, and compliance reporting.
Monitor Salesforce and partner-management data for missing links, incorrect ownership, incomplete attribution, failed synchronization, and recurring defects. Support month-end close, recurring data controls, and ad hoc reporting tied to projects and company objectives and key results.
Build and present dashboards and business updates on backlog, aging, turnaround time, approvals, pipeline, attribution, data quality, compliance, and process health. Share trends, risks, blockers, and recommended actions in regional and global partner team meetings.
Investigate recurring friction and manual work, document root causes and operational requirements, test process or system changes, and support automation and scalable self-service improvements.
Maintain process documentation, how-to guides, and best practices, and deliver office hours, operational training, and communications when processes or systems change.
What you'll bring
Relevant experience in partner operations, sales operations, deal desk, order management, finance operations, or a similar revenue operations environment, including direct support for sales or partner sales teams, distributors, and partners, along with an interest in GitLab and open source software.
Experience with enterprise quote-to-cash processes and configure, price, quote tools or other commercial systems in a channel or partner context.
Experience with Salesforce and partner-management systems or portals.
Strong analytical skills, including advanced spreadsheets, dashboard building in Salesforce or business intelligence tools such as Tableau, and turning data into clear recommendations.
Hands-on experience using generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools to improve operational productivity, quality, or scale, including writing effective prompts, judging when outputs need human review, and sharing useful approaches with others.
Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize requests, investigate issues, identify exceptions, and escalate decisions to the appropriate owner, along with experience contributing to process improvement and automation.
Clear written and verbal communication, including explaining operational requirements to technical and non-technical audiences, documenting processes, creating enablement materials, and collaborating across Sales, Ecosystem, Programs, Deal Desk, Finance, Legal, Billing, and Systems.
Preferred experience includes Impartner or similar tools, SQL, or Snowflake.
