About the role
Finance at Descript isn’t a back office function. It’s a strategic partner in shaping where and how we grow. This role exists to turn insight into leverage, helping the company make smarter bets, allocate capital effectively, and improve the efficiency of our go to market engine. You will report to the VP of Finance and operate as a senior individual contributor with high ownership.
Your scope covers the full growth funnel, from top of funnel through conversion, retention, and ARR. You will own GTM and growth models, partner closely with Sales, Marketing, Growth, and Data teams, act as a thought partner to GTM leadership on goal setting, performance tracking, and identifying growth opportunities across self serve, product led, and sales led motions.
We are looking for someone who sees GTM finance as both analytical and strategic. Someone who enjoys building models and metrics, but also shaping the narrative around growth. You are comfortable working directly in SQL, navigating imperfect data, and translating complexity into clear recommendations that influence how Descript grows.
What you will do
Own Descript’s top of funnel and growth models, from signups to paid conversion to ARR and retention.
Own sales-led revenue forecasting, including pipeline modeling, win rates, sales capacity, and quota-driven ARR.
Build and maintain GTM financial models including ARR builds, channel performance, cohort analysis, and scenario modeling.
Partner deeply with the data team to define metrics, improve data framework, and enable reliable self-serve analytics for finance and GTM.
Design and maintain dashboards for key GTM metrics such as signups by channel, conversion rates, new ARR, retention, and payback.
Identify growth opportunities across self-serve, product-led, and sales-assisted motions and quantify their impact.
Define GTM goal setting frameworks and track performance against targets.
Analyze marketing and growth efficiency, including ROI, CAC, payback, and funnel conversion.
Support pricing, packaging, and monetization initiatives with clear financial analysis.
Communicate insights to leadership in a clear, decision-oriented way, including exec and board materials when needed.
What you bring
7 to 10+ years of experience in strategic finance, GTM finance, growth analytics, or related roles at SaaS companies.
Strong GTM intuition with hands-on experience in top of funnel analysis, ARR modeling, and revenue forecasting.
Advanced SQL skills and the ability to self-serve data end to end.
Experience supporting both B2B and B2C SaaS models.
Strong financial modeling skills, especially around growth scenarios and funnel dynamics.
Experience supporting monetization experiments, pricing, and packaging
Experience partnering with data teams and working with large, imperfect datasets.
Clear communicator who can translate data into actions and recommendations.
Comfortable with ambiguity, high ownership, and building things from scratch.
Solid understanding of SaaS metrics across PLG and sales-led motions.
If you don’t tick every box above, we’d still encourage you to apply. We’re building a diverse team whose skills balance and complement one another.
The base salary range for this role is $160,000 - $215,000/year. Final offer amounts will carefully consider multiple factors, including prior experience, expertise, and location, and may vary from the amount above.

ABOUT SENTRY
Software runs the world and the pace is faster than ever. Sentry helps developers fix errors and performance issues before users notice, so teams can spend less time firefighting and more time building.
Trusted by 200,000+ organizations, Sentry is today’s application monitoring standard and our team is building its AI-native future.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Developer Experience team is growing in San Francisco! This is a hybrid role out of our main headquarters and must be based there. We’re looking for a hands-on builder with strong opinions on great developer docs.
Are you someone who loves tinkering with the newest features in your favorite products? Do you enjoy taking the next random JavaScript framework for a spin and figuring out how to make them tick? Does it especially irk you when the code snippets are wrong, or the only docs for a feature are on X? Developer Experience at Sentry lives in the intersection of shipping really cool products and getting developers set up to use them.
If you’re someone who is confident in partnering with Product and Engineering to test and ship the latest features, not afraid to jump in and go hands-on to solve problems for our biggest customers, and a good eye for what good docs looks like - this is a dream role.
Developer Experience at Sentry is a team of builders who are constantly looking for ways to make it easier for every developer to use Sentry. We engage with the challenges facing technical communities, to support developers, gather feedback, and help our product and engineering teams ship new capabilities.
An engineer in this role should be confident to “come with an answer," propose the product solutions, identify the content and/or execution plans and people to partner with, and go execute.
IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL
- Attend and even host events and meetups in the developer community
- Have a point of view and aren’t shy about expressing it. You get your energy from both knowing the latest trends and having a POV on which ones to ignore. Who’s working on something interesting, who influences the conversation, and who’s going to help drive the conversation forward - while linking all this back to the core problems that Sentry is solving
- Build content that gets people excited to build their software alongside Sentry
- Have an ear to the street. You get excited about gathering insights from users, the developer tool world, and what's currently happening in software development.
- Ride side by side with Engineering, Product, Design, Sales Engineering, Business Ops, and nearly every function in Marketing from Comms to Product Marketing to develop the best content and great product narratives.
YOU’LL LOVE THIS JOB IF YOU
- Are someone who loves taking new features for a spin, learning how they tick, and testing them against your own projects
- Are an educator, a builder, and a human router. And you know that the best way to get people excited about your product is to show, not sell, through cool concepts, useful technical tutorials, and by bringing brilliant people together
- Are a “meh… not bad” writer who understands how to tell a useful and relevant story in 30 words as well as weave together questions to panelists for 30 minutes
- Get excited when you hear that your job is to do ⅓ of each: Educating through useful and timely content + building community through live and virtual gatherings + Being customer-to-product influence
- Listen as much as you talk. And you know how to build a community organically by lifting up and promoting others.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years as a developer and 3+ years in an advocacy or educational role such as developer relations/evangelism, creating technical content, leading a community of developers via forums or events
- You have 3+ examples of technical educational content aimed for professional developers (e.g. tutorial, video series, blog series, course)
- At least one example of your own dedicated blogs, forum or sites with a developer-focused audience and can speak to how you measured success and what promotional mechanisms you used to drive top of funnel visibility
- At least one project using a common modern development language or framework
- You have been an active member and contributor of technical communities, on any platform (e.g. Discord, Stack Overflow, Reddit, Twitter, TikTok)
- Ability to prioritize competing opportunities and balance customer needs versus business priorities
- Stellar written and verbal communication skills
- A down-to-earth attitude, a good amount of humility, and dry sense of humor are a huge plus
The base salary range (or hourly wage range, if applicable) that Sentry reasonably expects to pay for this position is $200,000 to $240,000 USD. A successful candidate’s actual base salary (or hourly wage) amount will be determined by a variety of relevant factors including, without limitation, the candidate’s work location, education, work and other relevant experience, skills, and job-related knowledge. A successful candidate will be eligible to participate in Sentry’s employee benefit plans/programs applicable to the candidate’s position (including incentive compensation, equity grants, paid time off, and group health insurance coverage). See Sentry Benefits https://sentry.io/careers/ for more details about the Company’s benefit plans/programs.
