It’s an exciting time to join us: we’re creating a company with the scale, talent, and technology to help more organizations put their data to work with greater speed, confidence, and impact.
During this transition period, you may see references to both Fivetran and dbt Labs throughout our recruiting process as we integrate our teams, systems, and career sites.
About the Role
We're hiring an Engineering Manager to lead the Semantic Layer team in Bengaluru. You'll own the health, delivery, and growth of the team behind MetricFlow — building and coaching a group of engineers, setting technical direction in partnership with your leads, and ensuring one of the most important projects in the modern data stack keeps shipping with quality and momentum.
This is a hands-on leadership role. You'll spend most of your time growing people, running a healthy delivery process, and shaping strategy — but you'll stay close enough to the code and the architecture to make sound technical calls and earn the trust of a senior engineering team. You'll also be the steward of a public, community-facing open-source project, balancing the needs of internal roadmap and external contributors.
About the team
The Semantic Layer team owns the systems that turn dbt models into trusted, reusable business metrics. At the heart of this is
MetricFlow
— the open-source semantic engine that powers the dbt Semantic Layer. MetricFlow lets data teams define metrics once in code and consume them consistently across BI tools, notebooks, AI agents, and downstream applications.
This team is the steward of MetricFlow as an open-source project: shipping releases, reviewing community contributions, evolving the query compiler, and ensuring it integrates cleanly with the broader dbt ecosystem. The team works at the intersection of language design, query compilation, and distributed data execution — solving problems that directly shape how thousands of organizations measure their business.
What you'll do
Lead, coach, and grow a team of software engineers building MetricFlow — hiring, onboarding, career development, performance management, and day-to-day support.
Own delivery for the Semantic Layer team: planning, prioritization, execution, and predictable shipping of high-quality software.
Partner with your senior and staff engineers to set technical direction across metric definitions, query compilation, dimensional modeling, and SQL generation for multiple data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, Redshift, and others).
Steward MetricFlow as an open-source project — set the bar for how the team triages issues, reviews external pull requests, manages releases, and engages the community on GitHub and in Slack.
Collaborate with engineering leaders across the dbt platform, dbt Core, and the Semantic Layer service to ensure MetricFlow integrates seamlessly with the rest of the dbt ecosystem.
Partner with product, design, and developer-relations counterparts to translate customer and community feedback into a clear, well-sequenced roadmap.
Drive engineering excellence in performance, reliability, and observability of metric query execution at scale.
Foster a culture of design docs, thoughtful code review, and durable engineering — shipping fast without shipping sloppy.
Skills we're looking for
Experience managing software engineering teams, including hiring, coaching, and performance management, with a track record of shipping production systems.
A strong engineering foundation — you've built and shipped production software yourself and can engage credibly on architecture and technical tradeoffs with a senior team.
Familiarity with the technical domain: SQL fundamentals, how analytical query engines and data warehouses execute queries, and systems that involve parsing, compilation, or transformation (query planners, DSL compilers, type systems, or rule-based engines).
Solid grasp of software design principles: clean APIs, modularity, testability, and backwards compatibility — and the judgment to hold a team to them.
Excellent written and verbal communication — you can explain complex tradeoffs clearly to engineers, product managers, and external community members.
Experience leading in a distributed, asynchronous team environment.
Nice to have
Experience leading or contributing to a popular open-source project, including managing a community of external contributors.
Familiarity with dbt, MetricFlow, LookML, Cube, or other semantic-layer technologies.
Background in data warehousing internals, query optimization, or analytical SQL dialects.
Experience with CI/CD, GitHub Actions, and release engineering for Python libraries.
Exposure to building developer-facing APIs, SDKs, or CLIs.
Why join us
Impact at scale: Your team's code will run inside the data platforms of tens of thousands of companies, including some of the world's largest enterprises.
Open-source ownership: You'll lead the team behind a foundational open-source project — visible, reviewed, and used by the global data community.
A team that values craft: We invest in design docs, code review, and durable engineering. We ship fast, but we don't ship sloppy.
Competitive compensation: Market-leading salary, equity, comprehensive health insurance, generous time off, learning and wellness stipends, and home-office support.

From Fivetran’s founding until now, our mission has remained the same: to make access to data as simple and reliable as electricity. With Fivetran, customer data arrives in their warehouses, canonical and ready to query, with no engineering or maintenance required. We’re proud that more organizations continue to leverage our technology every day to become truly data-driven.
About Us
Fivetran and dbt Labs are bringing together two industry-leading companies with a shared mission: helping organizations unlock the full value of their data.
Together, we’re delivering the data infrastructure layer that helps organizations move, transform, and trust their data — from the moment data moves, through every transformation, to the context teams and AI systems rely on.
Fivetran helps organizations automate data movement across the systems, clouds, engines, and tools they rely on. dbt Labs pioneered analytics engineering, helping teams transform data into reliable, governed insights. Together, we support thousands of organizations as they build a trusted foundation for analytics, AI, and better business decisions.
As we bring our teams and technology together, we’re building on the strengths of both companies while continuing to deliver the products and experiences our customers know and trust.
We’re looking for a
Sr Software Engineer
to join the Platform Ops team (Platform Engineering) and enable developer productivity by building and improving developer tooling and environments, and by improving other productivity tools around observability. Our team builds the shared systems and workflows engineers rely on every day—internal developer environments and self-serve tooling that makes the recommended way to ship changes the easiest way. This is a platform tooling role with a focus is on reusable capabilities and self-service workflows adopted across teams.
You’ll also help develop AI-based workflows for productivity and efficiency, including automation that improves infrastructure operations (for example, faster triage, automated runbook steps, and better self-service for common issues). You’ll prioritize the highest-impact problems by looking at where time is being lost today (slow builds, flaky tests, manual release steps, repetitive operational work) and turning that into concrete projects. You’ll set clear success metrics up front and use them to guide design decisions and rollouts.
Expect to partner closely with engineering teams to drive adoption, document changes, and iterate based on feedback. You’ll drive cross-team work across internal tooling, developer environments, observability, and reliability, focusing on measurable improvements (for example: shorter lead time, fewer incidents, and faster recovery). You’ll add automation and enable developer workflows across all three major cloud environments (AWS, Azure, and GCP).

We’re looking for a
Staff Software Engineer
to join the Platform Ops team (Platform Engineering) and lead initiatives that enable developer productivity by building and improving developer tooling and environments, and by improving other productivity tools around observability.
As a staff engineer on the team, you’ll lead medium-to-large initiatives end-to-end: define the problem with stakeholders, write a design and rollout plan, build and operate the solution in Python/Go, and measure results. You’ll work across Platform Engineering, Release Engineering, Security, and product engineering teams to make improvements that are adopted broadly and remain reliable over time.
What You’ll Do
Lead end-to-end projects that improve developer tooling, environments, and operational workflows (speed, reliability, and safety)
Design and operate internal tooling/services in
Python
and/or
Go
Build tooling for our internal developer platform (self-service workflows, shared patterns, developer-facing interfaces)
Add automation and enable developer workflows across all three major cloud environments (AWS, Azure, and GCP)
Develop AI-based workflows that improve developer experience and reduce repetitive manual work, including efficiency gains in infrastructure operations
Improve developer feedback loops through better observability (metrics/logs/traces), making failures easier to diagnose
Design/build and document “paved paths” and self-service capabilities so teams can ship without extensive platform expertise
Improve reliability through automation and observability (metrics/logs/traces), and drive incident follow-ups to reduce recurrence
Set technical direction (design docs, tradeoffs, sequencing) and drive delivery across stakeholders
Mentor engineers through design and code reviews
Skills We’re Looking For
:
Strong experience building and operating production services in
Python
and/or
Go
Experience with at least one cloud provider (
AWS
,
Azure
, or
GCP
) and core primitives (IAM, networking, compute)
Experience building developer productivity tooling (CI systems, build tooling, developer portals, workflow automation)
Track record leading ambiguous, cross-team technical projects to completion
Strong communication and engineering judgment
You'll have an edge if you have
:
Kubernetes/platform abstractions experience
Infrastructure-as-code (Terraform/OpenTofu), including reusable modules, safe state practices, and modernization of shared platform foundations
Experience building internal developer platforms (IDPs) / developer portals / self-service tooling

During this transition period, you may see references to both Fivetran and dbt Labs throughout our recruiting process as we integrate our teams, systems, and career sites.
About the role
Fivetran + dbt Labs is hiring a Senior Manager to lead the Product Design team responsible for dbt Labs. This role reports to the Director of Product Design.
This is an exciting time to join! As Fivetran and dbt Labs come together, you will help shape a coherent product experience, guide the design team through change, and influence the future of AI-powered data products. You will join a strong and talented design organization whose members care deeply about their craft, the practitioners they serve, and one another.
This is a people management and product leadership role for a design leader who wants to shape technical data products at scale. You will manage and develop a team of product designers, shape the UX strategy for dbt products, and partner with Product and Engineering leaders to define how data teams build, transform, govern, and trust their data. You will lead through strategy, coaching, direction, and cross-functional partnership.
What you'll do
Lead the dbt product design team
You will manage and coach a team of product designers who work across dbt platform and CLI-based products. Designers own the full design process from problem definition and research to UX/UI and partnering with eng/PM through delivery. You will build a culture where designers feel supported, challenged, and empowered to do thoughtful, high-quality work for deeply technical users. You will set clear expectations, give actionable feedback, support career growth, and create the conditions for strong design craft.
Own UX strategy for dbt
You will define and drive UX strategy across dbt’s product experience. You will identify the highest-impact experience opportunities, connect design priorities to product outcomes, and partner with Product and Engineering leadership as a strategic peer in roadmap and product direction conversations.
Provide design direction for technical data products
You will set direction for design work across complex workflows used by technical practitioners. You do not need to be an engineer, but you do need enough technical fluency to understand the domain, evaluate tradeoffs, and partner credibly with engineering leaders. You should be comfortable discussing data workflows, ELT, analytics engineering, developer tools, and infrastructure-oriented product experiences.
Shape AI and agentic product experiences
You will lead design strategy for AI-powered and agentic experiences within dbt. This requires more than adding AI features to existing workflows. You will help the team design systems that make AI assistance understandable, useful, and safe for high-stakes technical work. As dbt builds experiences where both humans and AI agents interact with the same data infrastructure, you will also think about how product surfaces need to work for both personas.
Help integrate Fivetran and dbt Labs design
You will play an important role in co-creating a unified product experience and design culture. This is a change-leadership role. You will partner with the Director of Product Design to merge systems, processes, and culture. You will help designers navigate a new organizational context, build strong cross-functional relationships, and create clarity during a period of product and company evolution.
Build an AI-native design operating model
You will operationalize AI across the design lifecycle (from research synthesis and ideation to prototyping, documentation, and design QA). You will establish shared workflows, quality standards, and review practices that help the team move faster without compromising product quality or consistency. In partnership with the Director of Product Design and Product and Engineering leadership, you will also define cross-functional standards for when AI-generated work requires design review, ensuring clear expectations for human oversight, quality, and continuous improvement.
What we're looking for
Required experience
You have 8+ years of product design experience and at least 5 years managing product designers.
Strong people management skills, including coaching, performance development, direct feedback, and team culture building.
Strong cross-functional leadership with Product, Engineering, Research, Data, Marketing, and executive stakeholders.
Deep care for craft, with a leadership style focused on direction, critique, strategy, and coaching rather than acting as the primary IC designer.
Designing for, or leading teams that design for, technically complex products such as ELT, data infrastructure, analytics engineering, developer tools, cloud platforms, data governance, observability, or adjacent enterprise infrastructure products.
Designing AI-powered or agentic product experiences. You understand the difference between a lightweight AI feature, a copilot, and an agentic workflow.
Experience operationalizing AI workflows for product design teams that goes way beyond AI prototyping. You have defined how designers use AI across the design lifecycle and have established the workflows, standards, review practices, and quality thresholds needed to make AI-assisted work effective at team scale.
Owning UX strategy for a meaningful product area. You can show how your design strategy influenced product direction, not just how your team delivered screens.
Strong technical fluency. You can reason about complex systems, understand engineering constraints, and discuss tradeoffs with Product and Engineering partners.
Experience designing for expert technical users such as data engineers, analytics engineers, software engineers, platform teams, or security teams.
