Join the team as our next Software Engineer on Twilio’s platform engineering observability team.
About the job
This position is needed to help our platform engineering observability team. Twilio is undergoing a large-scale observability transformation—and you can help shape the foundation. Observability is a strategic pillar and a key enabler for faster incident response, deeper customer-centric insights, and more cost-effective platform operations.
As a Software Engineer on the Platform Observability team, you’ll play a critical role in re-architecting how telemetry flows and is utilized through Twilio—making it structured, accessible, affordable, and actionable. Over the next 3 years, Twilio is rebuilding nearly every component of our observability platform, from data collection to real-time analytics. You will drive core initiatives that shift Twilio from fragmented tooling and wasteful data sprawl to a unified, OpenTelemetry-first observability stack built for scale.
You’ll lead technically and strategically—designing platform components, influencing org-wide architectural decisions, mentoring engineers, and engaging directly with teams across Platform Engineering and R&D
Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll:
Lead the end-to-end architecture and delivery of key observability platform components, with a focus on reliability, scalability, and usability.
Drive consistency and quality across all observability signals—logs, metrics, traces, and continuous profiling—building intuitive workflows for engineers.
Serve as a technical advisor and mentor across the platform org, guiding design decisions and aligning cross-team efforts with long-term architectural goals.
Go deep in one or more problem areas (e.g., high-cardinality telemetry, distributed tracing correlation, compute cost insights), while ensuring the platform scales horizontally.
Collaborate with product teams, SREs, and developer experience groups to deeply understand telemetry needs and integrate observability into core engineering workflows.
Design and build developer-friendly tooling and APIs to support incident response, performance analysis, and platform debugging at scale.
Leverage (and optionally contribute to) open-source standards like OpenTelemetry to ensure interoperability and extensibility.
Champion a pragmatic approach to observability—balancing performance, cost, and user value across diverse engineering teams.
Qualifications
Twilio values diverse experiences from all kinds of industries, and we encourage everyone who meets the required qualifications to apply. If your career is just starting or hasn't followed a traditional path, don't let that stop you from considering Twilio. We are always looking for people who will bring something new to the table!
*Required:
Proven expertise in building and scaling observability systems (e.g., logging platforms, metrics pipelines, tracing infrastructure, or profiling tools).
Lead technical execution for major components of Twilio’s observability overhaul, including our shift to centralized S3-based data lakes, OpenTelemetry instrumentation, and ClickHouse-backed query engines.
Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Go, Python, Java).
Familiarity with high-cardinality data challenges and telemetry correlation techniques.
Experience designing high-scale telemetry systems (e.g., Prometheus, ClickHouse, OpenTelemetry, Kafka, or equivalent).
Solid understanding of distributed systems and the challenges of observability in complex, microservice-based environments.
Experience with AWS, Kubernetes, and infrastructure-as-code tools.
Provide architectural guidance and thought leadership across teams, helping to establish clear telemetry standards, efficient usage patterns, and scalable platform abstractions.
Ability to make forward-looking technical decisions and lead others through ambiguity and chan
Desired:
Familiarity with ClickHouse, Grafana Mimir, Athena, or equivalent systems for log and metrics querying.
Contributions to open-source observability tools or communities.
Experience building cost visibility or FinOps tooling for cloud compute and telemetry pipelines.

THE ROLE
The Transaction Monitoring (TM) Compliance Manager is a specialized financial crime risk and regulatory oversight role within the Second Line of Defence (2LoD) Financial Crime Compliance department. The successful candidate is responsible for providing independent oversight, objective evaluation, and compliance challenges regarding the efficacy of the firm's Transaction Monitoring framework.
Acting as a Second Line Subject Matter Expert (SME), the individual defines the regulatory envelope, assesses TM risk coverage, and reviews the governance, methodologies, and documentation underpinning detection mechanisms. This role does not own control execution or technical solution design; instead, it provides independent assurance to ensure that the firm’s monitoring practices remain aligned with defined risk appetite, internal policies, and global regulatory expectations (AML/CTF/CPF).
Key Responsibilities:
1. Compliance Oversight in Risk Assessment & Horizon Scanning
- Independent Review: Lead the ongoing 2LoD evaluation and challenge of the Compliance Risk Assessments (including EWRA and Product Risk Assessments) to ensure they accurately reflect current transaction data, typologies, and product utilization trends.
- Regulatory Surveying & Horizon Scanning: Proactively monitor, survey, and analyze shifts in the global regulatory landscape, financial crime trends, and regulatory enforcement actions to ensure the firm's TM Compliance risk assessment framework remains comprehensive and defensible.
- Gap Assurance: Evaluate the mapping of financial crime typologies against active transaction monitoring coverage to independently identify and escalate potential tracking gaps to senior management.
2. Independent Compliance Challenge & Assurance Framework
- Segmentation & Calibration Challenge: Provide independent, 2LoD challenge to data-driven customer segmentation methodologies executed by the First Line (1LoD), verifying alignment with merchant risk profiles.
- Compliance Oversight in Tuning & Optimization: Review and evaluate the methodologies, statistical testing parameters, and documentation for periodic "Below-the-Line" (BTL) and "Above-the-Line" (ATL) testing performed by the First Line to ensure robust governance.
- Residual Risk Opining: Formulate independent compliance opinions regarding residual risk acceptance, providing formal advisory input to governance forums and the Global MLROs.
3. Governance, Risk, & Reporting
- Model Risk Governance: Participate in the compliance review of TM systems and model validation exercises, independently assessing the transparency, logic, and regulatory defensibility of detection models against applicable guidance (e.g., FCA guidance on model risk management).
- Strategic Alignment: Provide regulatory compliance support to the Head of TM to assist in aligning roadmap initiatives with the compliance maturity framework.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with cross-functional stakeholders across lines of defense to communicate compliance requirements and support the adherence to established TM standards.
- Governance & Escalation Paths: Support the enhancement of the TM compliance governance framework to facilitate the structured, independent escalation of risk metrics to senior management.
- Metrics & KRI Oversight: Assist in the production of 2LoD Management Information (MI) and Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) to track the effectiveness of the compliance oversight posture for the Head of TM and Global MLRO.
3. Data Integrity & Alert Lifecycle Assurance
- Data Lineage Assurance: Review documentation regarding data lineage, integrity, and completeness for feeds ingested into the monitoring architecture to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
- Lifecycle Evaluation: Evaluate the end-to-end alert workflow governance, risk scoring frameworks, and prioritization mechanics to ensure high-risk alerts adhere to compliant escalation paths.
- Feedback Loops: Analyze high-level alert outcomes and disposition trends to provide compliance feedback loops to technical teams, supporting iterative improvements in the quality of Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs).
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Experience: Typically 5+ years of experience within Financial Crime Compliance, with a specific focus on the independent oversight, assurance, or evaluation of Transaction Monitoring frameworks within a regulated PSP, FinTech, or financial institution.
- 2LoD Competency: Proven experience operating within a Second Line of Defence capacity, demonstrating the ability to independently challenge technical teams, data models, and threshold tuning documentation objectively.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of the UK Money Laundering Regulations (MLRs), JMLSG Guidance, and international FATF standards.
- Systems & Data Literacy: Familiarity with data analysis methodologies, data visualization tools (e.g., Looker, Tableau), or basic query languages (e.g., SQL) sufficient to independently evaluate data testing outputs, methodologies, and audit trails.
- Education & Professional Certifications: A Bachelor’s degree in Law, Finance, Criminology, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience. Professional certifications from recognized bodies (e.g., ICA International Diploma in AML, ACAMS) are highly regarded.

Mistral provides full-stack AI solutions: from frontier models to developer tools, applications, and compute. We partner with enterprises tackling the hardest problems across high-stakes industries like finance, manufacturing, defense, healthcare, and the public sector, co-creating customized AI systems that they can run on their terms.
We are a dynamic, collaborative team passionate about AI and its potential to transform society. Our diverse workforce thrives in competitive environments and is committed to driving innovation. Our teams are distributed between Europe, North America, Asia and the Middle East. We are creative, low-ego and team-spirited.
THE ROLE
This role focuses on building and operating the end-to-end execution, training, and data infrastructure that powers Mistral’s agentic models and coding assistants. You will be a core contributor to our agent research stack: designing scalable systems for synthetic data generation, building ultra-fast training and RL execution environments, and maintaining high-throughput execution engines.
You will tackle the engineering challenges at every step of the agent lifecycle: from orchestrating 1M+ concurrent and short-lived sandboxes for untrusted code execution to optimizing agent training codebases, distributed trajectory collection pipelines, and dataset processing workflows across massive hybrid and multi-cloud clusters.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Large-Scale Sandboxing Infrastructure: Design, deploy, and operate our high-throughput sandboxing platform, executing LLM-generated untrusted code across over 1 million isolated environments concurrently for model evaluation and interactive RL environments.
- Agent Data Generation Pipelines: Architect and scale high-throughput pipelines for synthetic code generation, agent trajectories, rollouts, and self-play data collection to power post-training and RL loops.
- Training Codebase & Systems Optimization: Optimize agent training codebases and distributed execution runtimes (PyTorch, Ray, SLURM/Kubernetes) to minimize multi-step rollout overhead, improve GPU utilization, and eliminate scaling bottlenecks.
- Low-Latency Orchestration & Warm Pooling: Reduce sandbox cold-start times to sub-second levels using container warm pools, snapshot/restore technology (e.g., CRIU, microVMs), and optimized image delivery layers across hybrid clusters.
- Multi-Cluster Queueing & Resource Allocation: Implement Kubernetes-native custom controllers, CRDs, and queuing systems to dynamically route short-lived evaluation, synthetic data, and agent execution tasks across diverse hardware fleets.
- Isolation, Security & Security Boundary: Ensure strict multi-tenant network and process isolation for untrusted agent code using container/sandboxing runtimes (e.g., gVisor, Firecracker) and default-deny network postures.
- Operational Excellence: Maintain high availability, telemetry, and automated self-healing across millions of transient jobs while participating in on-call rotations for critical agent training and execution pipelines.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- 4+ years of experience in Systems Engineering, Distributed Systems, Cloud Infrastructure, or MLOps supporting LLM/RL workloads.
- Data & Pipeline Engineering: Proven experience building high-throughput data processing and generation pipelines for large-scale datasets (e.g., Ray, Spark, custom distributed queues).
- Deep experience with Kubernetes & Container Tech: Strong expertise writing custom K8s operators/controllers, managing Linux cgroups/namespaces, and optimizing Docker image layers and distribution systems.
- High-Performance Software Engineering: Advanced proficiency in Python, Go, C++ or Rust, with a track record of profiling and optimizing high-performance ML or backend systems codebases.
- Sandboxing & Isolation Technologies: Hands-on experience with lightweight virtualization, container runtimes, or WASM (e.g., Docker, gVisor, Firecracker).
- Queueing & Scheduling: Deep familiarity with task queue systems, resource schedulers, and low-latency queuing architectures for high-volume, short-lived workloads.
- Comfort with Ambiguity: Passion for working directly alongside AI researchers to rapidly turn frontier agent ideas into scalable, production-grade infrastructure.

This is a hands-on, field-facing role for someone who has been through at least one real estate development from land acquisition to entitlement and is excited to apply that experience to the data center industry.
What You’ll Do:
Lead and support site entitlement efforts, including zoning, platting, land use approvals, and other local governmental approvals required to advance data center sites.
Serve as the company's primary point of contact with municipalities, counties, city councils, county commissioners, and other public officials on assigned projects.
Build and maintain working relationships with mayors, city managers, county judges, and municipal/county staff.
Prepare and deliver presentations to city councils, commissioners' courts, planning and zoning boards, and other public bodies.

Communicate regularly and clearly with internal stakeholders — leadership, legal, engineering, and construction teams — on project status, risks, and timelines.
Develop working knowledge of data center development requirements (power, fiber, water, site criteria) and apply that knowledge to site selection and entitlement strategy.
Travel within the Lubbock region and broader Texas market as needed to support site visits, public meetings, and landowner negotiations.

Experience in real estate development, with direct involvement in at least one completed development project from acquisition through entitlement (commercial or residential); OR equivalent experience as a landman.
Demonstrated experience entitling property and working directly with municipalities, city councils, county commissioners, or other public officials.
Comfortable and experienced presenting to public bodies, boards, and internal leadership.
Working understanding of Texas oil, gas, and mineral rights and how they can affect a real estate transaction or site.
Basic understanding of real estate purchase contracts, title, and the closing process.
Experience negotiating with landowners and/or sellers in a land acquisition context.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to represent the company professionally to external officials and internal stakeholders alike.
