WHO WE ARE
Notion is the collaborative AI workspace where teams and agents think together https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkpYpWfEK5s. We're building one place where your knowledge, projects, meetings, and AI tools live side by side, so work is faster, clearer, and less fragmented. Millions of individuals, small teams, and large companies run their work on Notion.
Notinos (our employees) are customer zero in bringing this future of work to life. We care about craft, building things that last, and the belief that great work is still fundamentally human. Our goal isn’t to ship the next feature. Each and every team of Notinos is working to set the standard for how humans work together in the AI era. From building a business’s system of record to making and managing AI agents to automating away the busy work, we care deeply about giving our customers more time for their life’s work.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Forward Deployed Engineer on Notion’s Services team, you will lead the hands on technical delivery of our most complex customer engagements. You will design, build, and deploy production ready solutions that help enterprise customers integrate Notion as the operating layer for their business.
You’ll embed with enterprise customers to design and build solutions that integrate Notion deeply into their technical and operational environments. This includes writing and maintaining custom code, designing and deploying production-grade custom agents and AI workflows with MCP, Agent APIs, and Notion’s automation and execution infrastructure, building data pipelines and resolving complex challenges around scale, permissions, and governance.
You’ll embed with enterprise customers to design and build solutions that integrate Notion deeply into their technical and operational environments.
This is a customer-facing engineering role for someone who is comfortable writing code, debugging technical issues, explaining tradeoffs to stakeholders, and turning ambiguous customer problems into scalable technical solutions. Your work will help shape best practices for how we support complex customer needs and ensure Notion’s platform is ready for scale.
WHAT YOU'LL ACHIEVE
- Own the hands-on technical delivery of customer engagements, including deep technical discovery, requirements gathering, solution design, and end to end implementation.
- Act as a trusted technical advisor, helping customers make informed architectural decisions and identify opportunities to expand and deepen their use of Notion.
- Design, build, and operate custom agents, integrations, automations, and data pipelines that connect Notion with customers’ systems and workflows.
- Lead the design and execution of large-scale content and data migrations, including discovery, scoping, data modeling, transformation logic, validation, and post-migration optimization.
- Work directly with customer engineering, IT, security and business stakeholders to gather technical requirements, identify constraints, evaluate feasibility, and make sound architectural decisions that maximizes the value of Notion within their broader technical ecosystem.
- Troubleshoot complex implementation issues across APIs, integrations, automation logic, data quality, permissions, authentication, system limits, and customer specific environments.
- Design and operate feedback loops with Product, CX, and Engineering, translating real-world implementation challenges into actionable insights, technical requirements, and tooling improvements that directly influence Notion’s Product Roadmap and our Customers.
- Build reusable technical assets, including migration tooling, integration patterns, reference implementations, discovery frameworks, technical standards, scripts, and internal delivery tooling.
- Help define how Services delivers complex technical implementations at scale by improving methodologies, scoping artifacts, build patterns, technical documentation and engineering best practices.
SKILLS YOU'LL NEED TO BRING
- 5+ years of experience in customer-facing or forward deployed engineering role or a similar hands-on technical role.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Java, JavaScript, Node.js, SQL, or Python and comfort with writing production-quality code in customer-facing or internal engineering contexts.
- Hands-on experience with APIs and data integration.
- Ability to lead technical discovery with customers, assess feasibility, identify risks, scope technical work, estimate effort, and translate ambiguous requirements into an executable plan.
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills, with the ability to isolate root causes across code, APIs, permissions, integrations and customer specific configuration.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and business audiences effectively.
- A track record of delivering customer value by translating technical challenges into solutions that drive outcomes for customers at scale.
NICE TO HAVES
- Experience working in professional services, preferably in a startup or high-growth environment.
- Experience deploying AI agents autonomously in complex coding or business workflows.
- Experience designing or implementing AI-powered workflows, including work with MCPs, APIs, LLM applications, prompt engineering, retrieval/RAG systems or workflow orchestration.
- Background in developing technical frameworks, discovery methodologies, or internal tooling from the ground up.
- Experience with ETL/ELT workflows, data transformation, schema mapping, validation scripts, or large-scale content migration tooling.
- Strong history of collaboration with product and engineering teams, including influencing roadmaps or architectural decisions.
- Experience supporting pre-sales or early engagement phases, including technical discovery, migration scoping, feasibility analysis, effort estimation, and building prototypes or custom scripts to validate approaches.
- Strong track record of successful enterprise customer implementations.

A NOTE ON AI
You don’t need deep AI expertise for every role, but we do expect every Notino to be intellectually curious, drawn to tinkering and discovery, and excited to use AI as a real collaborator in their work. For some roles, AI fluency is a core requirement — when that’s the case, we'll say so explicitly in the qualifications. People who thrive here don’t treat AI as a novelty. They use it to think better, and make their work easier for others to build on.

Little more about the team:
You’ll join a high-performing, strategic sales team focused on moving Honeycomb further into the enterprise space. Collaborate cross-functionally with Solutions Architects, Product, and Customer Success to shape high-value, tailored deals
Deliver predictable pipeline growth, accurate forecasting, and exceed quota targets
Represent Honeycomb at key industry events, conferences, and executive briefings
What you’ll bring to the role:
5+ years of full-cycle enterprise SaaS selling experience, ideally in DevOps, observability, or cloud infrastructure
Proven ability to land $500K+ multi-year deals with complex buying committees
Strong executive presence with the ability to influence C-level stakeholders across technical and non-technical roles
Deep discovery, storytelling, and consultative selling expertise
A track record of building champions and navigating enterprise buying cycles with precision
Grit, ambition, and a bias for execution—someone who thrives in fast-paced, high-ownership environments
Experience leveraging MEDDPICC, Command of the Message, or similar enterprise sales frameworks
On Target Earnings (OTE) based on level of experience (Base + Commission)
£180,500
—
£212,200 GBP
What you'll get when you join the Hive:

Time to recharge with unlimited PTO
A distributed-first mindset and culture (really!)
Home office, co-working, and internet stipend
Full benefits coverage for employees, with additional coverage available for dependents
Up to 16 weeks of paid parental leave, regardless of path to parenthood
Annual development allowance
And much more...
Please note we cannot currently sponsor or support visa transfers at this time.
Additionally, in compliance with applicable law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work.

- Take ownership of and lead projects focused on developing large-scale web crawlers, ingestion pipelines, and data processing systems.

PlanetScale is growing rapidly and reinventing the database space. The PlanetScale platform offers both Postgres and Vitess clusters. Vitess, an open-source database clustering system for horizontal scaling of MySQL, enables businesses to efficiently handle large-scale data workloads — without sacrificing developer experience.
Our customers entrust us with what is often their most precious digital asset, their data, so the stakes couldn't be higher. We're looking for a Software Engineer to join our core engineering team and help us build the next generation of database infrastructure.
What's the job to be done?
You will advise and handle support requests from enterprise customers on the PlanetScale platform.
You will become a customer-facing subject-matter expert for enterprise customers on the PlanetScale platform.
You will identify product gaps in a customer-specific context and work with Technical Account Management, Engineering and Sales Engineering teams to prioritize and escalate them.
You will be part of an on call rotation for high priority issues.
These attributes best describe you…
You are comfortable in front of customers, empathetic but understanding when to push back to help customers become successful on their own.
You have excellent debugging and troubleshooting skills; with a mix of enough experience and intuition to zero in on root-causes for bugs that can leave others stumped.
You are comfortable stepping outside your comfort zone. Be it delving into unfamiliar code in Vitess, one of its dependencies, or a random MySQL connector, written in a language you may not know (yet!). Working with code as your main source of documentation doesn't fluster you, and you are happy to help add/correct it as necessary where it may be inaccurate.
You can operate independently, but you know when you are in too deep and need to ask for help.
You know how to work under pressure in times of urgency. We and our customers both take issues with their data platform seriously.
What you will need
Experience supporting production databases and applications, preferably at scale.
Experience with database internals and peformance tuning, specifically for PostgreSQL and MySQL databases
Working knowledge of Kubernetes.
Strong ability to communicate and deal directly with customers, whether in email, Slack, video conference, or in person.
What else will help you be successful
Knowledge of common application deployment platforms and frameworks. Eg Python, Go, Node, PHP
Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)
Knowledge of monitoring, observability, and debugging tools
Contributions to open-source projects, especially in the database or infrastructure space
Why PlanetScale
We're redefining how high-growth companies manage data at scale—and we work with some of the most exciting brands in gaming, consumer tech, and B2B SaaS. As a Software Engineer, you'll be at the core of building the platform that powers world-class apps used by hundreds of millions of users worldwide. At PlanetScale we believe in supporting people to do their best work and thrive no matter the location. Our mission is to build a diverse, equitable, and inclusive company. We welcome applicants of any educational background, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, age, citizenship, socioeconomic status, disability, pregnancy status, and veteran status.
If you have a disability, please let us know if there's any way we can make the interview process better for you; we're happy to accommodate!
Total Compensation and Pay Transparency
An employee's total compensation consists of base salary + variable comp where appropriate + benefits + equity. A member of our Talent Acquisition team will be happy to answer any further questions when we engage with you to begin the interview process.
Salary range:
US $120,000 - $200,000
