This is an opportunity to run the worldwide Telco Field Engineering business, helping customers understand and implement Canonical's open source solutions in public clouds and in their own data centers. We work across the entire spectrum of cloud offerings, from Ubuntu itself to virtualisation and private cloud, Kubernetes, and the implementation of sophisticated open source solutions such as MLops platforms, data platforms and more. The Telco department is composed of three regional teams (APAC, EMEA and AMER).
We believe that Engineering Directors should be outstanding engineers themselves. They should feel completely at home troubleshooting technical issues and having technical presales conversations with customers. They should contribute to project delivery themselves, but know that the technical contributions they bring are far less significant than their ability to shape the whole team’s direction, focus and delivery. We grow management skills and train engineers, who are interested in soft skills, to be managers.
We believe that open source is just starting to transform the tech sector and enterprise compute. Our goal is to make open source easier, more reliable and more secure for deployment and development. We strive to be the provider of ‘most software to most companies’. To deliver on that ambition, our engineers are carefully selected from the applicants across the globe. We select for brilliance and motivation to take open source to the next level. Our engineering managers help teams achieve more than they realised they could, and feel proud of the result.
The role of a Telco Field Engineering Director at Canonical

The portfolio of products includes on-premise cloud solutions such as Openstack, MicroCloud and Ceph, and solutions that could be deployed either on-premises or in public clouds such as Kubernetes, Kubeflow, Spark, PostgreSQL, etc. The team works hands-on with the technologies by deploying, testing and handing over the solution to our support or managed services team at the end of a project. Managers and team members also take part in presales conversations to provide technical advice during the sales process.
Within the Field Engineering department, there are multiple focused teams : the Cloud/DC team, the Alliances/Partners team, the IoT team, and the Telco team.
The telco industry is moving to software-defined services. This transformation is driven by open source software, cloud computing and the move to VNF / CNF approaches. Canonical Ubuntu is a key platform for telco innovation, and we are growing our team of specialists who work in the industry to accelerate the change.
Canonical enables operators and communications service providers to embrace this new world, with a focus on platforms such as Ubuntu, OpenStack, and Kubernetes, and reusable, high quality automation for operations at scale.
A Cloud Field Engineering Director is responsible for driving the strategy in presales and delivery for our telco customers. About Anthropic
Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.
About the role
Anthropic is seeking Software Engineers to join our Observability team within the Infrastructure organization. The Observability team owns the monitoring and telemetry infrastructure that every engineer and researcher at Anthropic depends on, from metrics and logging pipelines to distributed tracing, profiling, error analytics, alerting, and the dashboards and query interfaces that make it all actionable. By joining this team, you'll have a direct impact on the reliability and operational excellence of Anthropic's research and product systems.
As Anthropic scales its infrastructure across large GPU, TPU, and Trainium clusters, the volume and complexity of operational data is growing by orders of magnitude, and an increasing share of the most challenging problems live below the application layer. We're building next-generation observability systems, including high-throughput telemetry pipelines, fleet-wide continuous profiling, eBPF-based tracing and network visibility, and agentic diagnostic tools, so engineers can detect, diagnose, and resolve issues in minutes rather than hours, even when the answer lies in the kernel, the network stack, or an accelerator rather than on a dashboard.
Key responsibilities
Design and build scalable telemetry ingest and storage pipelines for metrics, logs, traces, and error data across Anthropic's multi-cluster infrastructure
Build observability solutions that give engineers deep, low-overhead visibility into system behavior across the fleet
Own and evolve core observability platforms, leading migrations and architectural improvements that improve reliability, reduce cost, and scale with organizational growth
Build instrumentation libraries, SDKs, and eBPF-based auto-instrumentation to emit high-quality telemetry, with and without code changes
Reduce mean time to detection and resolution by building cross-signal correlation (from kernel-level events up to application traces), unified query interfaces, and AI-assisted diagnostic tooling
Improve fleet-wide efficiency by turning continuous profiling and utilization telemetry into actionable optimization insights across CPU, memory, and accelerator fleets
Partner with Research, Inference, Product, and Infrastructure teams to ensure observability solutions meet the unique needs of each organization
Minimum qualifications
Experience building and operating large-scale observability or monitoring infrastructure
Hands-on experience with observability signals end to end, from instrumentation through ingest to query and analysis
Understanding of high-throughput telemetry pipelines and the tradeoffs involved in collecting, storing, and querying operational data at scale
Comfort debugging below the application layer, in the kernel, the network stack, or the hardware
Excellent communication skills and the ability to partner with internal teams to improve their operational visibility and incident response capabilities
Ability to work independently on ambiguous, high-impact technical challenges
Preferred qualifications
Experience building or operating eBPF-based observability in production, such as tracing, profiling, or network visibility
Experience running continuous profiling at fleet scale, including managing overhead budgets and symbolization
Kernel- and syscall-level debugging experience and performance engineering skills
Experience profiling or instrumenting accelerator workloads
Experience operating metrics systems at very high cardinality, or large-scale telemetry storage backends
Experience with log storage migrations or operating columnar databases (e.g., ClickHouse, BigQuery) for analytics workloads
Experience with OpenTelemetry instrumentation, collector pipelines, and tail-based sampling strategies
Interest in applying AI/LLMs to operational workflows such as automated root cause analysis, anomaly detection, or intelligent alerting
Enthusiasm for building foundational infrastructure

We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills.
The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.
Come work with us!
Anthropic is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and a lovely office space in which to collaborate with colleagues.

About WorkOS 🚀
WorkOS builds modern developer tools and APIs that make it easy for companies to become Enterprise Ready. Our platform powers authentication, identity, authorization, and other critical infrastructure that developers need to securely scale their products to large organizations.
We recently raised a $100M Series C, valuing the company at $2B, led by Meritech and Sapphire with participation from Greenoaks, Craft, Abstract, and Audacious. WorkOS powers enterprise features for many of the fastest-growing AI companies, including OpenAI, Cursor, and Perplexity, Sierra, and Plaid.
As AI reshapes software, WorkOS is at the frontier of Human and Agent Authentication, Identity, and Access Control helping companies answer a new critical question: who are your agents, and what are they allowed to do? Our fast-growing customer base includes hundreds of modern software companies building the next generation of enterprise-ready products.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We're growing our Applied AI team to dramatically increase productivity across Engineering, Sales, Support, and Operations, and to ship AI-powered products that customers rely on directly.
As an Applied AI Engineer, you'll design and ship production AI systems that change how WorkOS builds, sells, supports, and scales. You’ll also be building things that WorkOS customers use, and systems that the entire company depends on daily.
You'll work on a small, high-ownership team that:
- Chooses problems based on measurable impact
- Moves from idea → prototype → production in days or weeks
- Ships at both layers: internal leverage and customer-facing product
- Adapts quickly as models, tools, and best practices evolve
This is a 0→1 role with company-wide visibility.
What you'll do
- Design and ship customer-facing AI products like ask.workos.com http://ask.workos.com, AI support bots embedded in customer Slack channels, and new surfaces we haven't built yet
- Build internal tools that become part of people's daily work: agents, automations, and workflows that are stable, observable, and easy to maintain
- Work on big bets: a unified bot framework, a sandboxed coding harness agent, and infrastructure that lets the entire company ship
- Use LLMs, embeddings, retrieval, and tool-calling to plug into docs, Slack, GitHub, CRM, analytics, support systems, and internal services
- Replace repetitive, multi-step manual processes with orchestrated, AI-driven flows that span multiple apps and data sources
- Stay current on new models and tooling, run focused experiments, and help the team converge on patterns, libraries, and infrastructure that compound over time
Example problems you might work on
- A sandboxed coding harness that can safely take a bug report or feature spec all the way to a deployed change
- A unified bot framework that powers every AI touchpoint, internal and customer-facing from a single, observable backbone
- A GTM intelligence layer that gives reps live account context, meeting prep, and follow-up from CRM, product usage, and conversation history
- Turning noisy, cross-tool workflows (tickets, Slack threads, docs) into a single agent that handles triage, routing, and suggested actions
- Infrastructure that lets any WorkOS team ship a reliable internal AI app without reinventing the stack
What we're looking for
- You've taken AI-powered systems from idea to production and through at least one iteration cycle with real users
- Strong engineering fundamentals. You're comfortable owning services, data flows, and integrations end-to-end
- Experience building with LLM APIs
- You think about failure modes, observability, and ownership, not just whether the demo works
- Bias toward action. You care less about the model and more about removing real bottlenecks, saving hours, or unlocking workflows the company couldn't do before
- Comfort with ambiguity and fast change. The problem, the tools, and the "right" patterns are all evolving, you're excited to help define them
Nice to have
- Prior work on customer-facing AI products
- Experience with embeddings, retrieval/RAG architectures, and structured tool-calling or agents
- Exposure to MCP or similar protocols for connecting AI agents to real systems

ABOUT BASETEN
Baseten powers mission-critical inference for the world's most dynamic AI companies, like Cursor, Notion, OpenEvidence, Abridge, Clay, Gamma, and Writer. By uniting applied AI research, flexible infrastructure, and seamless developer tooling, we enable companies operating at the frontier of AI to bring cutting-edge models into production. We're growing quickly and recently raised our $1.5B Series F https://www.baseten.co/blog/announcing-our-series-f/, led by Altimeter Capital, Conviction Partners, and Spark Capital. Join us and help build the platform engineers turn to ship AI products.
THE ROLE
At Baseten, we are building the global operating system for distributed, heterogeneous AI hardware. We believe that as LLM and multi-modal workloads scale, the network is the computer. We are looking for foundational engineers to lead our GPU Networking efforts, making RDMA a first-class building block in our infrastructure and unlocking the next generation of distributed inference optimizations.
Networking and compute are no longer separate disciplines; they are converging. The massive throughput of H100, B200, and NVL72 architectures enables and demands a new approach where communication is co-optimized alongside computation. We are entering an era where the network is an active accelerator, leveraging smart hardware offloads and direct interconnects to ensure that data movement operates at wire-speed.
In this role, you will go beyond network configuration to architect the software fabric that unifies thousands of GPUs into a cohesive operating system. While you will leverage the best of the open-source ecosystem, you won't be limited by it. Where off-the-shelf solutions stop, you will build from scratch, engineering the primitives required to co-optimize communication and compute for Disaggregated Serving, Wide Expert Parallelism (WideEP), and lightening cold starts.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Make RDMA First-Class: You will work on integrating RDMA/RoCE/InfiniBand capabilities directly into our inference stack, helping us move beyond TCP/IP to unlock order-of-magnitude improvements in bandwidth and latency.
- Optimize Distributed Inference: You will implement and tune the networking layers necessary for efficient Disaggregated KV Cache Offload and WideEP, ensuring seamless communication across NVLink and InfiniBand for our MoE models.
- Enable Serverless-Grade Startup Speeds for LLMs: You will work deeply with checkpointing and storage mechanisms to enable sub-10-second startup for trillion-parameter models.
- Deep-Dive into Hardware: You will characterize and validate networking performance on bleeding-edge clusters (H100/H200, B200/B300, GB200/300 NVL72), writing the acceptance tests that ensure our hardware delivers peak achievable throughput and minimal latency.
- Build Observability: You will design the tools that let us visualize packet flow, congestion, and effective bandwidth across the GPU interconnects, helping us diagnose complex distributed system behaviors.
- Optimize Kernels: You will work with communication libraries (NCCL, NVSHMEM) and potentially write custom communication kernels to overlap compute and data transfer.
REQUIREMENTS
- You have deep experience with high-performance networking protocols (InfiniBand, RoCE v2) and understand the physics of data movement.
- You are fluent in C++ or Python, with the ability to bridge the gap between high-level logic and hardware. You have a deep understanding of the memory hierarchy in modern NVIDIA architectures (H100/Blackwell) and know how to optimize for it.
- You like going deep. You aren't afraid to dive into TensorRT-LLM source code, write custom C++ / Python bindings, or debug NVLink topology issues.
- You know when to use an off-the-shelf solution and when we need to build a custom solution because the upstream tools (like standard Kubernetes networking) are too slow for our needs.
NICE TO HAVE
- Deep knowledge of NCCL, NVSHMEM, and UCX.
- Experience with Rust for systems-level or performance-critical networking code is a strong plus
- Experience with GPUDirect Storage (GDS) or high-performance filesystems like Weka or 3FS.
- Familiarity with TensorRT-LLM, vLLM, or SGLang.
- Experience running low-level benchmarks to "qualify" new hardware clusters.
THE TEAM
- Bleeding Edge Hardware: We are preparing to bring Blackwell (B200/B300) and then Rubin architectures online. You will be one of the first engineers in the industry optimizing networking for NVL72/GB300 racks.
- We go deep: We operate at every depth. Whether it’s tuning hardware interconnects, writing custom communication kernels, or designing distributed inference strategies, we work across the entire stack to deliver performance that goes far and beyond.
- High Impact: The networking optimizations you build will directly enable features that no one else in the industry has fully mastered yet, like seamless multi-node WideEP and instant model hydration.
BENEFITS
- Competitive compensation, including meaningful equity
- (U.S. only) 100% coverage of medical, dental, and vision insurance for employee and dependents
- Flexible PTO policy including company wide Winter Break (our offices are closed from Christmas Eve to New Year's Day!)
- Paid parental leave
- Fertility and family-building stipend through Carrot
- (U.S. only) Company-facilitated 401(k)
- Exposure to a variety of ML startups, offering unparalleled learning and networking opportunities.
Apply now to embark on a rewarding journey in shaping the future of AI! If you are a motivated individual with a passion for machine learning and a desire to be part of a collaborative and forward-thinking team, we would love to hear from you.
At Baseten, we are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. We provide equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants without regard to race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, genetic information, disability, or veteran status.
We are an Equal Opportunity Employer and will consider qualified applicants with criminal histories in a manner consistent with applicable law (by example, the requirements of the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, where applicable).
