Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is very widely used in breakthrough enterprise initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation and IoT. Our customers include the world's leading public cloud and silicon providers, and industry leaders in many sectors. The company is a pioneer of global distributed collaboration, with 1200+ colleagues in more than 80 countries and very few roles based in offices.
The company is founder led, profitable and growing. We are hiring a
Business Services Team Manager
to lead efficient and effective travel, logistics, event, scheduling, expense policy and administration.
This executive role requires outstanding coordination, planning, decision-making, budgeting, procurement, reporting and management. It is a fast-paced and complex operation in the tech industry.
We coordinate large-scale company events which involve travel for hundreds of people from 80+ countries. We run such events four times a year, a significant investment in our ability to shape culture, teamwork, execution plans and strategy. Our team is responsible for travel procurement and logistics, ensuring that these events run efficiently and safely. Visas, travel complications and unexpected situations make this a complex operation to run efficiently, demanding a rigorous approach and high work ethic in the team.

This requires integrity, transparency and accountability, and a willingness to set and politely defend the same expectations of the most senior and most junior colleagues.
Together these responsibilities amount to tens of millions in operational costs and a significant number of tactical and operational decisions.
Our team also provides traditional 'EA' services for company leads, though they do this across departments and as a consistent service rather than as personal assistants; they set and deliver to expectations on specific kinds of work. They schedule meetings, coordinate monthly reports, handle delegated approvals for travel and expenses, work across teams, coordinate with suppliers, and run small projects or initiatives.
Location: Worldwide, home based, except in locations where we have an office, such as London, Taipei and Beijing
Leadership and accountability
This team has a direct impact on every team at Canonical. It is important for them to have excellent judgment and interpersonal skills, the confidence to hold people accountable and defend positions of policy, and the work ethic to move quickly through a large volume of work. It is also essential that the team participate in every company event, from the planning and venue selection stages to scheduling, operations and safety reviews, to ensure that they establish personal relationships with team leaders and can ensure these events run smoothly.
As a manager, your team would be responsible for
Travel approvals, logistics and operations
Expense review in line with policies
Planning of complex company events four times a year
Company offices that provide executive briefing and operational facilities
Our global duty of care, health and safety programs with comprehensive policies and practices
What we are looking for

We are looking for an outstanding software architect and engineer with experience in Golang and C, with the leadership qualities needed to rally a team to ship outstanding products. Knowledge of modern cloud infrastructure offerings, their APIs and their underlying technologies is a must.

We have opened several senior/staff Security Operations Engineer (SOC) positions, creating a new team reporting to the CISO. We are looking for a range of experience in these positions - at the high end we are looking for deep experience defending highly contested critical assets and high-value cyber targets against advanced persistent threats and state-level actors. We have more junior roles for exceptional individuals with a proven personal interest an engagement in cyber attack and defence, and outstanding academic and career performance even if experience is limited.
Our goal is to build an entirely new level of assurance and observable rigour into the open source supply chain. We have our own estate to monitor, but more broadly our goal is to raise the robustness of the entire global Ubuntu estate through the work of this team.
The Security Operations (SecOps) team is responsible for design, implementation and evolution of Canonical security practices, techniques, tools, systems and policies. The team is the primary owner of strategy and practices that determine how Canonical secures its data, internal infrastructure and build processes. They are responsible for assuring the security and integrity of our own infrastructure and product deployments. They design and implement technical security controls that ensure security threats are automatically identified, contained and remediated. The team will also contribute ideas and requirements for Canonical product security, improving the resilience and robustness of all Ubuntu customers and users subject to cyber attack.
The SecOps team's mission is not only to secure Canonical, but also to contribute to the security of the wider open source ecosystem. They might share knowledge through public presentations and industry events, and share threat intelligence with the wider community or represent Canonical in sector-specific governance bodies.
What you will do in this role:
Implement and evolve Canonical's SecOps security standards and playbooks
Analyse and improve Canonical's security architecture
Evaluate, select and implement new security tools and practices
Identify, contain and guide the remediation of security threats and cyber attacks
Grow the presence and thought leadership of Canonical SecOps practice
Contribute to open source threat intelligence initiatives
Drive threat modelling, table top exercises and other SecOps practices across Engineering, IS and Canonical
Develop Canonical SecOps learning and development materials
Publish blog posts, whitepapers and conference presentations
Identify, implement and track SecOps KPIs
Plan and deliver SecOps work in the framework of Canonical's agile engineering practice
Work with Security leadership to present information and influence change
What we are looking for
An exceptional academic track record
Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or a compelling narrative about your alternative path
Drive and a track record of going above-and-beyond expectations
Deep personal motivation to be at the forefront of technology security
Expertise in threat modelling and risk management frameworks
Knowledge of security architecture and market-leading security tools
Experience contributing to, and consuming, threat intelligence feeds
Experience in security risk management frameworks such as NIST CSF
Experience with security standards such as ISO 27001
Optional things we value
Experience in a security operations team or a security operations centre (SOC)
Experience in offensive or defensive security teams with hands-on ability
Experience with state-actor and other advanced persistent threats
What we offer you
We consider geographical location, experience, and performance in shaping compensation worldwide. We revisit compensation annually (and more often for graduates and associates) to ensure we recognise outstanding performance. In addition to base pay, we offer a performance-driven annual bonus. We provide all team members with additional benefits, which reflect our values and ideals. We balance our programs to meet local needs and ensure fairness globally.

Personal learning and development budget of USD 2,000 per year

About GiveDirectly
What if the most effective way to fight poverty was also the simplest: give people money and trust them to decide what they need?
Since 2011, GiveDirectly has proven that idea at scale. We’ve delivered more than $1B in cash directly to 2+ million people living in poverty and crisis across 15 countries, and rigorous research shows the results: healthier kids, stronger businesses, sturdier homes, and more resilient families and local economies. Cash is now widely recognized as one of the most scalable, cost-effective, and dignified forms of aid.
Our ambition goes beyond our own programs. We want cash to become the benchmark for aid, much as the index fund became the benchmark for investing, so that every aid dollar is held to one question:
is this doing more good than giving the money directly to people living in poverty?
We’re growing fast, and this is a rare and important moment to join.
We expect to hit $1B in revenue in 2026 with significant growth forecast for 2027. At the same time we are building a new technology stack and operating model designed for a roughly 10x change in scale, and we are actively pursuing partnerships with major funders to move even more money in bigger ways, to people who need it. We are known for our extensive integration of technology into field processes; our quantitative approach to performance measurement; and our commitment to rigorous, independent, experimental evaluation of our impact, with multiple Randomized Control Trials completed and others in progress.
How we work
Our team spans 20+ countries and 69 languages. Our culture is candid, analytical, and non-hierarchical. We expect high ownership and give people real responsibility early. Our values are central to how we hire, work, and grow, and they are deliberately opinionated:
Recipients first.
Recipients’ preferences come before those of donors or ourselves.
Team next.
We optimize for organizational success, not individual success.
Be proactively candid.
We say what we believe and share information openly.
Create positive energy.
We aim to be a source of energy for colleagues, not a drain.
Think rigorously; act quickly.
We reason from first principles, then act rather than debate.
Know yourself and grow.
We own our imperfections and seek feedback to grow.
Accept reality. Propose solutions.
We focus on what can change and bring solutions, not just problems.
Be productively ambitious.
We take risks for step-change impact, not incremental progress.
If they describe how you like to work and they energize you, this could be a great fit.

This is an opportunity to run a Professional Services team (also known as Field Engineering) team, helping customers understand and implement Canonical's open source solutions in public clouds and in their own data centers. We work across the entire spectrum of cloud offerings, from Ubuntu itself to virtualisation and private cloud, Kubernetes, and the implementation of sophisticated open source solutions such as MLops platforms, data platforms and more. We are rapidly expanding the range of open source solutions we offer and deliver to customers, as we move into new industries like telco, finance, health care and media we design and develop new open source solutions to meet their needs.
We believe that Engineering Managers should be outstanding engineers themselves. They should feel completely at home troubleshooting technical issues and having technical presales conversations with customers. They should contribute to project delivery themselves, but know that the technical contributions they bring are far less significant than their ability to shape the whole team’s direction, focus and delivery. We grow management skills and train engineers, who are interested in soft skills, to be managers.
We believe that open source is just starting to transform the tech sector and enterprise compute. Our goal is to make open source easier, more reliable and more secure for deployment and development. We strive to be the provider of ‘most software to most companies’. To deliver on that ambition, our engineers are carefully selected from the applicants across the globe. Managers and team members also take part in presales conversations to provide technical advice during the sales process.
A Cloud Professional Services Manager is responsible for line management and career guidance.
