PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The ClickHouse PhD Research Internship Program offers doctoral students the opportunity to pursue ambitious research alongside ClickHouse Labs researchers and engineers working on some of the most interesting challenges in databases, systems, and data infrastructure.
Research interns join ClickHouse Labs for approximately 10-12 weeks to explore meaningful research questions, develop new ideas, and investigate technologies that have the potential to advance both the broader research community and the future of ClickHouse.
The program is intentionally designed around research collaboration. Interns are paired with experienced researchers and have the opportunity to pursue work that aligns with their academic interests, ongoing research, and areas of interest within ClickHouse Labs. In some cases, an internship may build on research, a prototype, or a system the student has already begun exploring at their university.
We believe the strongest research relationships extend beyond a single summer. Interns may continue their work after returning to their university through academic research, open-source contributions, publications, or other forms of collaboration. Where there is a strong mutual fit, an internship may become the beginning of a longer-term relationship between the researcher, ClickHouse Labs, and the broader academic community.
During their internship, researchers will have the opportunity to work closely with ClickHouse Labs, engage with ClickHouse's open-source technology and engineering community, share their findings, and contribute to the intellectual life of the broader research community.
Program length: 10-12 weeks, with flexibility based on academic calendars and research needs
Typical timing: Summer, beginning approximately June 1
Locations: Opportunities available across the US and Europe, subject to role and employment requirements. Remote first.
Research environment: ClickHouse Labs
Internship format: Research-focused, mentor-supported, and shaped around areas of mutual research interest
Compensation: commensurate with experience, a monthly stipend will be paid
RESEARCH AT CLICKHOUSE LABS
ClickHouse Labs explores ambitious ideas at the intersection of databases, distributed systems, data infrastructure, and the broader systems research community.
We believe some of the most interesting advances in these areas happen through close collaboration between industry and academia. ClickHouse Labs brings together researchers and engineers to explore new ideas, investigate challenging technical problems, and connect academic research with real-world systems at scale.
Research interns are an important part of that community. Interns have the opportunity to bring their own research interests and perspectives into ClickHouse Labs while working alongside researchers and engineers who are deeply engaged with both the practical challenges and open research questions shaping the future of data systems.
PROGRAM GOALS
1. Identify exceptional PhD researchers working in areas directly relevant to ClickHouse.
2. Give researchers the opportunity to work on meaningful, open-ended problems with ClickHouse Labs.
3. Build long-term relationships with researchers and academic institutions.
4. Encourage continued research and open-source contributions after the internship.
5. Create opportunities for co-authored papers, thesis advising, or other academic collaboration.
6. Increase ClickHouse's visibility within the database and systems research community.
7. Publish and share meaningful research outcomes through the ClickHouse website and other appropriate channels.
WHAT MAKES THE PROGRAM DIFFERENT
This is intentionally not a highly structured engineering internship and should not detailed planning. ****But the high-level problem area and expectations should defined several months before the internship begins. This flexibility is intentional and allows ClickHouse Labs to respond to:
- Emerging research questions
- Current ClickHouse priorities
- New academic research
- Interesting systems or database prototypes
- Work candidates have already completed
- Opportunities to apply new research ideas to ClickHouse
The goal is to identify researchers whose work is already closely aligned with areas ClickHouse cares about and then determine the most valuable research problem to pursue together.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
We are looking for exceptional PhD students conducting research directly relevant to ClickHouse and the broader database/systems space.
IDEAL CANDIDATES
- Currently pursuing a PhD in computer science or a closely related field
- Conducting research in areas relevant to ClickHouse
- Demonstrated research excellence
- Strong database systems, distributed systems, hardware, or related technical background
- Has demonstrated ability to independently pursue complex research questions
- Ideally has prior experience with ClickHouse open source but not required**.**
- Has research, prototypes, or publications that could translate into meaningful work with ClickHouse
- Interested in continuing research beyond the internship
- Potential interest in open-source contribution and academic collaboration
CANDIDATE SELECTION PHILOSOPHY
The strongest candidates will be researchers whose work is specifically relevant to what ClickHouse Labs wants to explore.
A candidate who has already:
- Worked with ClickHouse
- Built a relevant database or systems prototype
- Published research in an area relevant to ClickHouse
- Explored a technical problem ClickHouse is interested in
may be significantly more valuable than a candidate with an otherwise impressive academic profile but no meaningful connection to our research areas.
RESEARCH AREAS & PROJECT SCOPE
Unlike an engineering internship program, specific projects do not need to be defined when recruiting begins.
Research projects may emerge from:
- A candidate's existing research
- A recent academic paper
- A prototype or system the candidate has developed
- An emerging ClickHouse Labs research priority
- An opportunity to test or extend an existing research concept within ClickHouse
IF THIS IS RELEVANT AND EXCITING TO YOU, PLEASE APPLY!

About Anthropic
Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.
About the role
As a Sales Development Manager for Enterprise at Anthropic, you will lead the team that opens our most strategic customer relationships. You'll build and manage a team of 6-10 Business Development Representatives (BDRs) who generate high-value pipeline inside complex enterprise organizations through account-based prospecting, multi-threaded outreach, and rigorous qualification.
Enterprise buying is long and involves many stakeholders. The work here is less about volume and more about depth: knowing an account well enough to reach the right people with the right message, and staying with it long enough to turn early conversations into real opportunities. You'll bring a strong understanding of enterprise sales cycles and organizational dynamics, and you'll coach your team to develop strategic accounts over time.
You'll partner closely with Enterprise Account Executives and with leaders across Sales, Revenue Operations, Strategy, and Marketing. You'll also develop the next generation of Anthropic's enterprise sellers, helping BDRs grow into Account Executive roles while they help the world's largest organizations adopt safe, frontier AI.
Key responsibilities
Build, lead, and scale a team of BDRs focused on the Enterprise segment
Drive strategic pipeline generation through account-based prospecting and targeted outbound campaigns to Global 2000 accounts
Coach your team on partnering with Enterprise Account Executives to develop account plans, coordinate multi-threaded outreach, and ensure high-quality opportunity handoffs
Establish and track KPIs focused on opportunity quality, deal size, and strategic account penetration
Coach and model for your team on enterprise prospecting, stakeholder mapping, and complex qualification
Build a deep understanding of enterprise buying processes, and coach the team on navigating procurement, legal, and security requirements
Own pipeline reviews with sales leadership covering enterprise pipeline health, account penetration, and competitive positioning
Build strong relationships with cross-functional leaders and partners across Sales, Revenue Operations, Strategy, and Marketing
Coach and mentor BDRs on strategic prospecting, executive engagement, and career development toward Account Executive roles
Minimum qualifications
Experience managing BDR, SDR, or new business Account Executive teams in an enterprise-focused sales organization
A track record of building teams that prospect successfully into complex enterprise organizations
Experience with account-based selling strategies, including account planning, stakeholder mapping, and multi-threaded outreach
Hands-on proficiency with a CRM and sales engagement tooling (e.g., Salesforce, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, or similar), and the analytical skills to design prospecting systems and measure pipeline quality
Demonstrated ability to coach representatives on navigating complex organizational structures and multi-stakeholder deals
Clear written and verbal communication, including the ability to engage executive-level stakeholders
An understanding of Anthropic’s products, ecosystem, and hands on building experience with LLMs

Experience building enterprise prospecting playbooks where none existed
Hands-on experience with Claude, Claude Code, or other AI prospecting tools, and with sales tools such as Apollo and HubSpot
Experience in API-first, consumption-based, or platform business models
Background in AI or machine learning, cloud infrastructure, or developer platforms

How we're different
We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills.

Anthropic's go-to-market organization is growing quickly, and our most important priorities for customers and for our field rarely sit within one team. Priorities cut across Sales, Marketing, Customer Success, Product, Revenue Operations, Enablement, Finance, Legal, Partnerships and more. We're looking for a strategic program manager to own these initiatives end to end.
You'll start with an ambiguous ask, sometimes from a senior leader and sometimes from a signal in the data. You'll find the root cause of the problem and design a solution with subject-matter experts across the company, then drive it from strategy to planning to results to iteration. You’ll bring stakeholders along while still moving quickly to the right answer. The work ranges from large cross-functional programs to short, focused SWAT efforts on urgent questions. Success looks like making better decisions, faster, for our customers and our field.
This is a strategic, highly cross-functional individual contributor role for someone equally comfortable building a business case, running a forum with senior stakeholders, getting into the data, and working directly with the field. You'll operate with high autonomy on the most critical GTM questions we face.
Key responsibilities
Own a portfolio of strategic GTM programs end to end, each starting from a business problem (e.g., customer activation, seller efficiency, model launches) and running from scoping through launch, operationalization, results, and iteration
Act as a thought partner to Sales and GTM leaders: identify, scope, and prioritize the programs most worth doing, and say no to the rest
Turn ambiguous, loosely scoped problems into structured analysis, a defensible model, and a clear plan with owners, milestones, and decision points
Align and drive teams across Sales, Marketing, Customer Success, Product, Revenue Operations, Enablement, Finance, Legal, and Partnerships without formal authority over any of them
Engage senior executives on the status and outcomes of the most critical programs
Manage change so new programs are adopted by the field, and define and report on success metrics such as adoption, time-to-value, and productivity impact
Use AI tools every day to analyze, model, and build faster
Create the templates, cadence, and reporting that help every future program launch well
Minimum qualifications
Have led complex cross-functional programs from problem definition through delivery, in strategy consulting, strategy and operations, GTM or sales programs, or program management
A track record of turning ambiguous problems into clear, defensible recommendations
Have driven initiatives to completion across teams you do not manage, including when senior stakeholders disagreed
Analytical skills: building a business case and quantitative model, defining targets, and pulling and analyzing your own data from CRM and BI tools
Clear written and verbal communication, with experience presenting analysis and recommendations to senior and executive audiences
A working understanding of how an enterprise sales organization operates
Have built programs or processes where none existed, and owned the outcome through to results
Are motivated by Anthropic's mission to develop AI that is safe and beneficial
Preferred qualifications
A background in strategy consulting followed by an in-house role where you built and ran programs and strategic projects
Experience running sales or GTM programs with measured results, such as pipeline, activation, adoption, or launch programs
Experience working within a sales operating cadence, such as forecast calls and pipeline reviews, Sales planning, product launches
Hands-on experience using AI tools daily to work faster and more rigorously, including building workflows with Claude or similar tools
Experience at a company selling technical or AI products
Experience as an early hire in a new team or function
