Senior Software Engineer, AI Enablement
The role & impact
You'll join a small team that builds the tools, platforms and best practices helping engineers across Xero work with AI. Rather than shipping something once and moving on, you'll own it end to end from early experimentation through to production, including the run books, monitoring and rollback thinking that keep it reliable once real engineers depend on it day to day.
This is a role with real influence. You'll help shape the technical direction of an internal skills marketplace and AI distribution platform used across the wider engineering organisation, work directly with vendors like AWS, Microsoft and GitHub on technology that isn't public yet, and help guide and challenge a team that's still early in its AI journey.
The team & how they connect
The AI Enablement team sits within Engineering Experience and focuses on helping product engineering teams work faster and better with AI through platforms, tooling and practical guidance rather than just standard tooling. It's a close-knit team, spread across Melbourne, Sydney and the Sunshine Coast, with a product manager based in Wellington, who stay connected through regular syncs and a genuinely collaborative way of working despite the distance.
Initially, you will focus on
- Our current stack is C#, .NET and AWS, with Python and TypeScript picked up along the way for AI tooling
- Building an internal skills marketplace and a distribution platform for AI tools used across Xero's engineering org
- Developing guidance and best practice for authoring agent skills, including agents for remediation tasks
- Collaborating directly with AWS, Microsoft and GitHub on early-access technology not yet available in market
Where and how you can work
You can be based anywhere in Australia, and we're also open to candidates based in New Zealand. The team works in a hybrid way and is used to connecting across time zones, with regular in person boost days to come together, plan and collaborate as a team.
Here are some of the things we're looking for, for this role
- You bring hands-on software engineering experience, ideally with C#, .NET and AWS — if your background is elsewhere, we're still keen to talk, as good engineers pick up new stacks quickly
- You've built internal tools or platforms that other engineers genuinely relied on
- Production discipline matters to you: You write runbooks, set up monitoring and think through rollback before anything goes live
- You communicate clearly and know how to bring people along with an idea, not just ship code quietly in the background
- You're curious about coding agents and AI-native tools, and you keep an eye on where AI engineering is heading
- You can challenge a decision directly and respectfully, and you learn new things in a structured, quality-focused way
Apply even if your experience isn't a perfect match! At Xero, we hire based on your skills, passion, and the unique perspective you can bring to enhance our culture and team.

Our clients include fast-growing startups, digital agencies, SaaS companies, and tech-enabled businesses across industries such as MarTech, FinTech, EdTech, and eCommerce. Unlike traditional outsourcing agencies, we place you directly with innovative companies where you become a valued member of the team.
Job Summary
This is a rare 0→1 Founding Engineer opportunity to build a financial platform from the ground up within an already established and profitable ecosystem.
We are looking for an exceptionally strong, hands-on engineer with direct fintech experience who has previously built core banking, payments, ledger, cards, or money-movement infrastructure at an established fintech, neobank, or financial technology company.
This is not a management-first position. We need someone who still wants to architect systems, solve difficult technical problems, and write production code. You will work directly with the founders and an existing technical developer, taking significant ownership of the architecture, product, and technical direction.
As the platform scales, you will also have the opportunity to help shape and build the engineering team around you.
Key Responsibilities
Architect and build core financial infrastructure, including accounts, balances, ledgers, transaction state machines, and money-movement systems.
Build KYC/KYB, onboarding, compliance, permissions, limits, and approval workflows.
Design integrations with banking partners, card issuers, payment rails, FX providers, and other financial infrastructure partners.
Develop provider-independent architecture that supports multiple banking and financial providers without vendor lock-in.
Build secure, reliable APIs and financial data models capable of handling reconciliation, event processing, retries, and exception handling.
Own technical problems end-to-end, from architecture and database design through implementation and production deployment.
Work directly with the founders to translate product requirements and business constraints into scalable technical solutions.
Help establish engineering standards, technology choices, and the long-term technical direction of the platform.
Requirements
3–8+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong backend or full-stack fundamentals.
Direct experience building financial infrastructure within a fintech, neobank, payments company, or similar financial technology environment.
Experience with core banking, payments, ledgers, cards, FX, reconciliation, KYC/KYB, or money movement.
Proven experience building production-grade APIs and distributed systems.
Strong database architecture and data-modeling skills.
Experience with asynchronous workflows, queues, events, retries, idempotency, and transaction processing.
Strong engineering judgment and product instincts, particularly when balancing speed, scalability, reliability, and correctness.
Comfortable operating in a highly ambiguous 0→1 environment and taking significant ownership without requiring extensive direction.
Natural initiative, creativity, and problem-solving ability.
Highly hands-on and excited to continue writing production code rather than moving into a primarily managerial role.
Nice-to-Haves
Experience as a strong individual contributor, early engineer, founding engineer, or technical lead within a high-growth fintech.
Background at companies such as Revolut, Wise, Monzo, N26, Nubank, Brex, Stripe, Plaid, Airwallex, Nium, Razorpay, Adyen, Checkout.com, PayPal, Column, Modern Treasury, or similar.

WHY WORK AT HIGGSFIELD AI?
Higgsfield AI is the fastest-scaling generative AI company in history, hitting $1B in annual revenue run rate, 30M+ users worldwide, 6M+ generations per day, and powering 390 of Fortune 500 brands.
We're building at the absolute frontier of AI-powered video creation and next-generation creative tools. Joining Higgsfield means becoming part of a high-impact team shaping the future of AI-native experiences, at a company that isn't just moving fast, but rewriting what fast looks like.
WHAT ORGANIC GROWTH MEANS AT HIGGSFIELD
Organic growth here is the set of channels that convert without media spend: search, AI assistants, and the content ecosystem they pull from. The channel has already brought in $2M in under a month, and conversion keeps climbing.
So this isn't an experiment in the dark. It's a proven channel that nobody has figured out how to scale yet, because the rules are still being written.
Millions of people now ask ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity which tool to use instead of typing it into Google. What those answers say about Higgsfield decides who discovers us and whether they choose us.
An Organic Growth Manager here is a high-agency operator who:
- treats SEO, AEO and GEO as one channel, not three disciplines;
- turns observations into hypotheses, tests them, and scales what moves the number;
- builds systems and automations instead of doing the same research by hand every week;
- moves work through adjacent teams, not just through their own hands;
- owns the line from visibility to sign-ups, not just rankings.
WHAT YOU WILL OWN
Visibility across search and AI assistants
- Understand how Higgsfield and competitors appear across Google and across LLMs — and why;
- Map how people actually ask for products in our category, and identify the queries worth winning;
- Find the gaps and the weak spots, including results that currently work against us.
The source ecosystem
- Understand which sites, communities, creators and formats different engines trust and retrieve;
- Shape what information exists about Higgsfield online and how our category gets described;
- Work with content, product and external partners to turn that into things that actually get published.
Measurement and experimentation
- Connect visibility, citations, traffic, sign-ups and revenue — the channel is judged on conversion, not vanity metrics;
- Build lightweight systems (Sheets, APIs, scripts, automation tools) to cut manual work;
- Continuously test new sources, formats and tools as the engines evolve.
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We don't require experience in AEO or GEO — almost nobody has it. We care about how you solve unfamiliar problems, and about what you've already delivered somewhere else.
Must-have
- A measurable result you can walk us through. Which metric you moved, by how much, and what part of it was yours;
- You turn data into decisions — and can explain why that decision and not another
- Technically curious: you figure out new tools, systems and data on your own;
- Has built or automated something before, rather than doing the same thing by hand every week;
- Can move work through adjacent teams and external sites, strong cross-functional and partner skills
- Fluent English, and comfortable working with content when needed;
- High ownership: you don't wait for a task list, you understand the goal and figure out how to get there;
Good to have
- Experience in SEO, growth, analytics, content, engineering or automation;
- Familiarity with LLM retrieval, RAG, or technical SEO;
- Your own project, product or business — anything you built without a brief;
- Strong understanding of the GenAI ecosystem.
WHAT THIS ROLE IS NOT
- It's not a channel with an existing playbook to execute;
- It's not a role where someone hands you a task list;
- It's not a fit if you prefer strategy over execution, or want predictable 9-to-5 workdays.
THE DEAL
- Competitive salary in USD, reviewed as you grow;
- On-site role in Almaty, Kazakhstan;
- Access to Higgsfield products and the AI tools we use internally;
- Breakfast, lunch and good coffee on us;

In 365 days we shipped 305 releases — roughly five years of work at most companies. New models, features and workflows land every week, and each one has to be explained to millions of users in a way that makes them understand it, want to try it, and remember it.
WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON
- Writing about releases, features and updates for our blog, guides and newsletters;
- Translating product context into language users actually understand;
- Working cross-functionally — inside CX, and with the product and marketing teams;
- Shaping how Higgsfield sounds: the words we use about ourselves, how we're read, how we're remembered.
YOUR MUST HAVES
- English C1+ — the language you think in, not the one you translate into;
- Real craft with text in English and Russian: you write from scratch, edit for different audiences, and feel rhythm. You can write simply and you can write densely. You understand structure and know how words move people;
- A nitpicker, in the best sense: you see a weak sentence and can't leave it. You notice where a paragraph sags, where an analogy doesn't hold, where cutting three words makes it stronger;
- A-player mindset: ownership, speed, taste, and genuine interest in AI;
- Comfort with the pace — releases ship weekly and the writing has to keep up.
NICE TO HAVE
- Experience writing for a tech, SaaS or AI product;
- Background in product documentation, developer content or technical writing;
- Familiarity with the GenAI landscape and the tools creators actually use;
- Experience working alongside product teams rather than downstream from them.
THE DEAL
- Competitive salary in USD, reviewed as you grow;
- On-site role in our Almaty office;
- Access to Higgsfield products and the AI tools we use internally;
- Breakfast, lunch and good coffee on us;
- Full-time position with high ownership and growth potential.
